2342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Segwit2x cancellation discussion on: November 08, 2017, 07:47:06 PM
Video analysis : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9XlstCRTLM

It will be very interesting to see how the price of bitcoin is affected, I know a lot of people that bought into bitcoin because they wanted the "free coin". It is currently up around 2% however the news is so new that people are likely still analysis it. I know I am personally glad they didn't go through with it, and am very happy with the way the crypto currency community is involved. I like the idea that the community/miners/investors etc can reject it.

What are your thoughts on it?

2343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is SegWit2x canceled? on: November 08, 2017, 07:33:13 PM
This is going to be extremely interesting because I know a lot of people were buying bitcoin and investing in it due to the "free coin" that they would be receiving.
2344  Economy / Exchanges / Re: $40 miner fee? Bitpay marking up miner fees? on: November 08, 2017, 07:03:01 PM
I use bitpay daily and have not had this problem, normally there conversion rates are 1$-2$ over coinbase when you go to deposit. So if you deposit $50BTC you normally get $48-49.

You can day trade some alts in order to make a profit, or offer a service where you can accept alts as a payment method. Hope that helps
2347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / "noob" nukes $150m+ in Parity Vulnerablity on: November 08, 2017, 05:48:59 PM
Note:
I am not a developer or a programmer.

What Happened?

Parity wallet software has had some problems which resulted in a loss of $100 million in user funds. This error could even be more than $100m according to sources. This problem was posted on Github by “devops199”. Any Parity wallet deployed after July 20 that uses the multisignature implementation is effected. This is however not the first time Parity has had problems, earlier they lost as much as $30m.

Could it be fixed?

It is really hard to tell if this can be fixed, some people have suggested a hard fork but others are saying that might not even work. Today though some developers have said a hard fork would work, but there are a lot of issues still at hand. Creating the fork would need a community support etc

What is going to happen to ethereum?

It is fairly unclear as to how the community will react to the news. This wasn't a Ethereum hack, but rather a problem with a ethereum wallet. The money was also not stolen it looks like, but “nuked”. Meaning, the funds will not be spent or used, and will be inactive for the time being. Which leaves a lot of people wondering if the price will increase due to the decrease in supply. However, historically after a “hack” ethereum price has dropped substantially.

How should we move forward?

One thing is fairly certain, we are having a lot of problems with security. Not just with ethereum or ethereum wallets, but in general with cryptocurrency. We need to start running security audits with this programs and companies that are holding such large financial resources such as the $100m+ that was recently nuked. This is not restricting as regulation would be, however it is a standard that we need to hold these clients and wallets too. However we can not play the blame game, and need to move on as a community. Build better ways to openly audit these projects so that millions of people will not be in the dark with a attack like this. Most of the people in the cryptocurrency space today are not programmers and developers, so we need to figure out a more effective way to connect the developers so they can collectively work on finding issues in an open environment. I know that some things are in existence today already. We are still extremely early in cryptocurrency, and so bugs and failures are expected to happen. We just need to be smarter as a community and work together to get through times like this.

Also when you are speculating this it should be noted that the amount of money lost should be related in terms of relevance to the entire market cap of ethereum.

Thoughts on this?

Question: How long do you think it will be until crypto currency classes are offered in colleges and Universities?

We even saw a beta test in australia where a university is giving away ethereum to its students. These sorts of ventures are very promising and will allow other countries and schools to adapt and try it out. These tests look to be going very smoothly and more and more people are going to peak interest when some more gains are being made.

We are even seeing elite schools like MIT which has a bitcoin club and is distributing $500k in bitcoin around the school and in programs.

Bitcoin is such a interesting technology and we will see in the future that crypto economics will be taught and fundamental crypto currency technology will be seen in middle schools and high schools throughout the country and world. As more money is made within the industry and since it is such a revolutionary and disruptive technology we will see more people getting into the field. The use of bitcoin training websites are growing, and since the age of open source projects is increasing we will see better ways to implement this system of teaching and learning. We are starting to connect minds across the world in a easy economy and so it is only a matter of time before we start to see this “brain disease” as the Anges Founder said in an interview. We are now seeing pop ups everywhere in the industry and so some investments made in the educational sector of crypto currency will certainly pay off as more people enter the space.

As more jobs arise from crypto currency, and as more “start ups” appear it will be more apparent that we need more teachers and professors giving classes on it. This can also give universities and colleges a competitive advantage in the recruiting process. Prospect students are going to be thirsty for cryptocurrency knowledge and experience and so I can see this grow in colleges and be a advertising and marketing point for them.
2349  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The PornChain: Need your opinion and much more need your help on: November 08, 2017, 04:44:12 PM
You will need millions, because you will need real videos etc, plus you will be competing with a ton of sites already with real material. I also dont think there is even a need for this, so you will be ahead of your time
2350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Could Enjin coin reach a $100m Market Cap?? on: November 08, 2017, 04:43:14 PM
I would say no. Not in a short time anyway, altcoin market is bearish at the moment and $100m is a huge number.

TBH I dont really ever see it being $100m, it has way to many problems to overcome and are pretty unreasonable.
2351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum heading to the moon? Speculation Thread on: November 08, 2017, 04:41:50 PM
The Ethereum community in my opinion is really strong, I see a lot and read a lot about people that are really passionate about it. When I first heard about bitcoin I wasn't completely sold on the idea, but when I found out about Ethereum it is all I can talk and think about. The people backing this coin are extremely strong and so I think we will see a up trend soon.
2352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What upcoming ICO's are you most interested in? on: November 08, 2017, 04:41:01 PM
There is a few new ICO's that i liked but they don't seem promising to me just yet.

A lot of projects I like dont have tokens, so I am in the same boat as you

2354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Parity scandel, Devops199 live interview! on: November 08, 2017, 03:14:06 PM
@TimetheYoutuber. Incompetence of some developers has caused this. But I am not saying that all Ethereum developers and contributors are incompetent, some of them are the best in the cryptospace. The problem with some of them is they know the project is no good but they remain to keep silent.

I wouldn't say they are "incompetent" but I think there is work that needs to be done, that is for sure.

So what would you call the developers who are at fault for the vulnerability that has led to millions of dollars of ETH being trapped? I reckon there is no other word for it butincompetence. Also remember that there was another Parity hack last July that allowed a hacker to steal 150,000 ETH.

As a community we need to get by this and move forward, I wouldnt pin this really on anyone.

Hello, so I've been reading a lot and finally decided to invest a larger sum of money into altcoins. I've chosen 4 coins: Viacoin, Ubiq, Pinkcoin and Radium. Will invest equal amounts into them and hold for atleast couple of years. Did I do my research good or I shouldn't be touching these coins?

I have not even heard of any of the coins you listed besides viacoin and I have not heard good things about it. I can already tell "pinkcoin" is a shit coin based on the name.
