2381  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: January 15, 2022, 01:26:15 PM

My first attempt to use a VPN I had an ugly experience with NordVPN
It was not Nord's fault but mine. I was very amateur in cybersecurity issues.
I downloaded the NordVPN from a shared link on social media instead of their website or playstore.
They altered the domain name with hyphen(-). I didn't know, I completed the registration. Immediately some popups begin to display in my phone. I knew I was being spyed. I searched for the file source to uninstall but I couldn't find it.
I was swift to reset my phone even when my backup was not upto date. I lost data but I was safe from attack.
After the loss, I re-examined the url and notice it has a security encryption https: but it was still malicious.
But I am using the NordVPN now but not always.
I wish someone would create a topic on how to beat the cyber criminals, they are upgrading everyday.

You messed up the hyperlink. This is what it should look like:
Welcome to the new Bitcoin forum!
Thank you for all the corrections.

If the idea of this thread was started by more experienced members like Pmalek, Loycev, Rikafip, fillippone, tranthidung, ratimov, DdmrDdmr or other members who like forum stats then I think there would be a lot of people who would be much more interested in participating. But unfortunately, the OP is not very experienced with how to do surveys or quizz so the idea doesn't seem very interesting.
If anyone of the people you mentioned or any other person can take up the idea and develop it, I will appreciate and be happy.
They can make it look like this BITCOIN TEST
I do not have the tools or capacity to do it now.
2383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BlockChain and Bitcoin on: January 15, 2022, 11:43:39 AM
I believe we don't need to stress ourselves very much to differiate between blockchain and bitcoin. They work hand in hand and heart to heart. My short relationship between is that Blockchain is the foundation upon which bitcoin is laid, and other cryptocurrencies are laid, and the foundation is still open for other companies or organisation to come and lay.

..
blockchains that have a true cost of creating the secure block hash(PoW) are more secure then blockchains that can make blockhashes for free(PoS). because if there is no cost at risk. anyone can try to game the system. if there is cost at risk then people are more willing to stay in the rules to get paid for efforts, rather then waste money to break the rules
PoS still has a cost at risk. The coin miner will donate some coins like colleteral before mining. If he will try to game the system he has coins at stake.
2384  Other / Meta / Re: Cybersecurity subforum on: January 15, 2022, 11:16:23 AM
In other words, if there are not many topics in the main menu, and there are many discussions about them, a subforum/board dedicated to them will not be created.

Let's take the Lightning Network as an actual example, although there are many topics and many discussions about them, no dedicated subforum/board has been created for them. Therefore, general terms such as "cybersecurity" will be impossible to create a dedicated board for it.
You are very correct about this. When the hype of NFT was high months ago and the demand was coming in but the board was not created. That was when I knew that the admins are not interested in creating boards or childboards that will not last or people will run out of discussion within a short time.

The Lightening network was a surprise to me when I search the forum but I didn't see any board for it. But in Development Board is saw _Rath always discussing it. I believe one of the reason why it has not gotten a childboard is that I always see a high user countering everything about Lightening network. His name is franky1. Not that he does not have nice points, he has many good points and I always read them. If childboard is created for LN, there can be home for arguments only and the purpose of the board will not be achieve.
2385  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BitcoinTalkShow] Best of January suggestions on: January 14, 2022, 10:46:09 PM
I have seen two remarkable threads that I want to nominate. But one happened December and the other one happened January. Today is 14 of January and many posts have not been made already. I think this came early. Unless it will be open throughout this month.

I watch bitcointalkshow two times on YouTube and it was talking about the things happening in this forum. I will like to see the video that will talk about what is happening in the country of the people watching the video. It will make the people to be more interested in bitcointalk if they know their country people are in this forum.
I saw this topic by Ratimov about how every board including all the local boards participated in bitcointalk last year. It will be good idea to make a show to say the country that participated most. Posting Dynamics for 2021 (Main Boards + Locals)

Another one is a topic started by fillippone about El Salvador bitcoin bond.
Everything you wanted to know about ES Volcano Bond and were afraid to ask!
This topic was made late December but I saw it this year.
In this period that countries are rejecting bitcoin I think the country that made bitcoin their legal tender need to be in our YouTube news. Is also related to First Bitcoin City.
2386  Other / Meta / Re: Test your forum knowledge. on: January 13, 2022, 08:05:30 PM
Have you heard of this site https://www.fyrebox.com/. You can create free quizz for whatever your purpose is including testing the knowledge of forum users like your idea.

I think @halab did it a while ago, he started the quizz but now it's over. See the thread. If you want to do this then make sure you have one correct answer for every question you ask, and give a time limit for answering them so there is no chance of searching for the correct answer around this forum.
I have seen it and I have seen the site. But I don't have answer to the questions. That is my problem now.

Thank you to every person that commented on this topic. Especially the ones that advised me to learn on my own and use grammarly. I love you all. I am already seeing the result this short time. What I learnt is that no one is supposed to post here in a haste. We have time to cross check our grammar hundred times before we post. For long article grammarly is our friend.

2392  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: How Nigerians are making money from Cryptocurency. on: January 11, 2022, 10:28:42 AM
NEW TOPIC: How Nigerians are making money from the Crypto.
Source: https://nairametrics.com/2021/11/25/how-nigerians-are-making-money-from-the-cryptocurrency-industry
This topic make sense wella. E get wetin I discover as I readam finish. All the ways wey dem mention say 9ja youth dey carry make money for crypto. I dividam into 3.
1. The ones wey go chop money
For dis category you go need get rubbers before you go make more rubbers. You no fit carry empty hand near here. Infact even if you get beta idea you still need rubbers to start. These ones na:
  • Buy and Hodl
  • Staking
  • Yield farming
  • Future and Options
My advice na make we get some idea for these ones before we go put body. Dem just dey like high tension. But na the number one wey I dey do, me sef don loose wela, base on say I no de do my own research. I just dey base on news. Shiba wey I go buy for high don finish for my hand.
2.The ones wey go chop small money or no chop money atol
For this category you no need plenty rubbers to involve. Wetin you need na beta update wey no be scam and you go cash out big with small money. You no even need too much experience for this wan. Me I believe say the one dem dey drop from air suppose dey for this category. These ones na:
  • ICOs/IDOs
  • Airdrop
3.The ones wey go chop only experience
For this wan, you no need money. Na only idea them want. You go make out time study well well. Me I don chop small money under here base on say I write article for one company. But e been dey stress me because me go need research before I go write beta tin and too my english no too polish. While others no dey too research because dem know the thing already. Na wetin make me enter this forum to come learn bitcoin well. This one na:
  • Crypto-Related jobs

Mazi Brainboss thank you for this topic as I dey wait make other people wey get experience chuk mouth for this mata.

There are some confusions but only one of them is correct and see you were lucky in 7 of them so you scored 41 and the rest are of being lucky only Grin. But still good and try to learn more of this stuff which will help you later on in having adequate bitcoin and crypto market knowledge.
Yes o. Some are confusing but I was very lucky. But luck is part of the exam. I hope I will get my reward  Wink

2399  Other / Off-topic / KYC is the biggest scam on internet on: January 10, 2022, 06:19:45 PM
I was browsing one of my favourite sites today which is https://infosecwriteups.com/ and I saw an article where a hacker boasted that he broke into a government server and stole over three million NIN of citizens.
I lost the full story because I could not bookmark the article. So I had to dig the Internet to discover the full information. And this happened in Nigeria. The hacker said he got one more s3 bucket with nuclei which contains upto 5gigs of data. The whole country is in total shock or panic now.
I have to go to the NIN website to know the kind of information that is in the NIN. I was shocked to see this.
Quote
The NIN is set to be used for all transactions in Nigeria requiring identity verification so you’ll be using your NIN for

obtaining your National e-ID card

travel (international passport application & acquisition)

opening personal bank accounts

getting your driver’s license

obtaining your Permanent Voters’ Card

participating in the National Health Insurance Scheme

payment of your taxes

transactions related to your contributory pension scheme

access to welfare and other relevant services from the Nigerian Government

transactions with social security implications

land transactions subject to the Land Use Act

any other transactions NIMC may so prescribe and list in the Federal Government Gazette
Look at the kind of data that is in the NIN. Pension data, international passport, bank account information, tax payment information, social security, estate information and more. We can say that hacker has kill over 3 million people.
Please avoid KYC. If a government server can be hacked. Any server can be hacked.

2400  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Proof of Useful Work? on: January 09, 2022, 08:56:45 PM
<snip>So the PoW essentially guarantees the security of a bitcoin transaction.
Thank you for response. So it means that the energy expended is not used to add transaction to the next block but to secure the transaction. So, all the miners commit energy to the system to secure it. If the system fails their cost of energy will waste.
You are correct in your understanding.
Thank you.
The mining manufactures have large upfront R&D costs associated with manufacturing ASICs. So the mining manufacturers have an incentive to not sell large quantities of miners to a single entity who could potentially do harm to the bitcoin network, or else they are risking their R&D investments.
Good one to know. So it is correct to say that the manufacturers of ASICs are the people indirectly preventing 51% attack.
