2461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brazilian mayor to reportedly invest 1% of city funds in Bitcoin on: January 14, 2022, 10:16:45 PM
The reported quote talks about investing into cryptocurrency and not Bitcoin in particular, so the headline is a bit misleading and as may others is a ploy to get traffic from Bitcoin users and news about government adoption is one to get people excited.

I am not really concerned about the news of investing city funds into Bitcoin, it is fast becoming the safest way to store wealth and it's only a matter of time before more nations and treasuries use it. I was more interested in the part which talked about tax exemption which I believe was teased in the US infrastructure bill which was public some months ago. This is a big step from any nation which wishes to become more crypto friendly.
2462  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your guidance is needed on: January 14, 2022, 09:48:29 PM
You took quite a long time to create your first post on the forum considering you registered mid last year. Most people think that (having a gap after registering to read up) to be the best approach for new users as it affords them ample time to read and get aquatinted with the forum and Bitcoin, and that's the advice I will give you now. Read!

There are so many different ways you could get undone in crypto, from wrong investments, carelessness, scams etc and you cannot be prepared for all of them by reading through one thread, but if you form the habit of perusing through any piece of information given before taking action, then you would more than likely be able to protect yourself.

Also, treat everything as a scam until proven otherwise.
2463  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Binance withdraw stuck for days! on: January 14, 2022, 02:18:00 PM
It is only binance support team that can solve your issue, they can be a little slow to respond and you will have to drop so many follow up messages on their live chat and possibly on their social accounts to get more interest to your case.

Not your keys; not your coins. If you keep your funds on a centralized exchange, you give control of them to the exchange and they cab freeze your funds at anytime for reasons they discover.
2464  Other / Meta / Re: russian mafia on BTT on: January 14, 2022, 02:04:39 PM
If you say that suchmoon is your account, that doesn't mean it's true.
If they go on to say that they will deny having said that suchmoon is their account on the said suchmoon account that makes the possibility of it being true even less. This says a lot considering how low the possibilities were.
2465  Other / Meta / Re: [NEW EPISODE] TheBitcoinTalkShow - Second episode is here! on: January 14, 2022, 01:44:15 PM
<snip>
The title was changed on the 7th of January, which was the same day the new video link was posted on this thread. You probably did not notice the change the day it was made, reason why it is a bit confusing now.

Is it possible that in the title here you add date of new episode?
That is a great suggestion and would likely clear up any misconception that users might have.
2466  Other / Meta / Re: Celebrate your rank up here [Junior Member - Legendary] on: January 13, 2022, 04:00:27 PM
I personally would want to see the ranked up thread of quality members of the forum and they deserve a thread to celebrate their achievements on the forum. What majority find annoying is when such threads become hackneyed and users create them seemingly for the purpose of getting attention and maybe merits.

A celebratory thread like this would be avoided by members who want the opportunity to rack some merits, and the legitimate members deserve a thread to celebrate their achievements if they wish to, in the appropriate board.
2467  Economy / Economics / Re: If crypto trades are done off-chain, they are not real. The Economics of CEX's. on: January 11, 2022, 09:29:03 PM
Then what is real? If I have a friend, he sent me bitcoin on an exchange because we are traders and using the same exchange, this makes the transaction to be free but not an onchain transaction. But if he sent bitcoin to me, I will receive the bitcoin on my exchange account. It is real.
Bitcoins are only transferred through on chain transactions, any other means are just numbers on the database of a platform and you can use this as normal. This is similar to how banks update your account when there is an incoming transaction, but the actual funds sent take a lot longer than that to be delivered to the receiving account.
2468  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can't open electrum after installing Monterey OS on: January 11, 2022, 08:57:06 PM
I need a better method of storing crypto, this all seems so transitive.
Your method of storage was not bad, you just need to take better care and pay more attention. You were always safe in the knowledge that you own the seed phrase and could always recover your wallet, this also means you should take extra care of safe guarding that, cause anyone who accesses it can import your address(es) and transfer the funds out.

The hardware wallet suggestion is quite good, you can also use a mobile device or pc, but it should not be one you are actively using to visit the internet.
2469  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Is this site legit? on: January 11, 2022, 08:32:14 PM
Thanks but could you explain why I was able to transfer amount like 600-1000 USDT multiple times from binance to this site and back without issues, that only took just over a minutes, but when got to 59000 USDt they said they locked my account when I tried to transfer it, assuming they are legit untill you earn to much? Guess I it works less than 10000 like they mentioned... Was recommended by a girl who used this site and she lent me 4000 USDT after chatting for a month.
That is the typical scam play book, they give you the impression of being legitimate, and could even go as far as paying you out smaller amounts while they prepare to swindle you of a much larger amount in the long run.
It does not work at all, regardless of the amount sent and you have definitely been scammed. It is best to count your losses and move on rather than falling deeper into the well.
2470  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Traffic Stats on: January 11, 2022, 03:57:51 PM
This made me think is the world crazy following their false stats  Huh
If majority of their stats is wrong why do you think the data on monthly visits would be accurate? The forum has almost 3.5 million registered members, this includes a large chunk of brand new member who never made a post and a lot of inactive profiles, it's highly unlikely it generates a monthly visit of 2.8 million, this gives a total reach of about 80% per month which is unrealistic.
2471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Legit Tips for Newbs that will help you Win on: January 11, 2022, 10:04:41 AM
7. Don't be naive, trust only those who deserve it. I think "anyone" is too much.  Wink
Trust is not something you can afford on the internet, much less in financial situations. On this forum for example, you can trust someone based on their reputation band track record, but you can not be certain they are the person behind the keyboard if you initiate contact with them as accounts can be hacked.
Also, regardless of their reputation, you would need to verify the information they are providing.
2472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Legit Tips for Newbs that will help you Win on: January 11, 2022, 05:56:29 AM
4. Memorize a Brain wallet phrase that only you will EVER know
This is pretty bad advice. Seed phrase or mnemonic phrase as it is sometime poorly called was not meant to be memorized. The human brain is very unreliable for recalling exact information stored and there are so many factors that could affect it such as accidents.

If you want to backup your address, do it securely on a piece of paper or a more resistant material and have multiple backup locations, with maybe someone needing more than one to access the wallet, like a 3-of-5 multisig. So one backup exposed would not lead to loss of funds.

6. Diversify your Crypto but keep mainly Bitcoin
Buying different assets in a correlated market is not diversification. If you want to diversify your investment, enter into real estate or someother form of investment. Any other thing is a gamble that could lead to huge losses.
2473  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: IS it possible to let your BTC work for you ? on: January 10, 2022, 10:17:54 PM
You can stake some altcoins with you having your keys with you but this will not possible for bitcoin.
Yes, that works for altcoins which are run on the PoS - Proof of Stake algorithm. That is quite different from third party staking which is only what can be run on bitcoin.
2474  Other / Off-topic / Re: KYC is the biggest scam on internet on: January 10, 2022, 09:34:17 PM
I believe the dangers of exposing your personal details is well known on the forum already, but it cannot be entirely avoided, if you wish to live a normal life. You would need to be registered when you are born and subsequently would need a drivers' license or international passport or some other means of identification; All these are stored on government servers and could be exposed if a breach occurs.

The best you can do is to not link your real life identity to your online persona. Anyone with a mobile device should not be able to google you up and get full details about you, and those who know you should not be aware of your online presence.
2475  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: IS it possible to let your BTC work for you ? on: January 10, 2022, 09:14:27 PM
I do not have much experience about staking or lending bitcoin, but I think all of those processes would involve you handing your assets over to a third party.
Whoever owns the keys, owns the coins, and it would be impossible for a third party to pay you interest for coins you still hold. You will have to give up self custody, if you wish to gamble on the possibility of earning an interest.
2476  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Since you started crypto what has been the greatest mistake you made? on: January 09, 2022, 09:41:56 PM
My biggest regret would be spending time and effort on shicoins. If I had fully focused on stacking sats from the get go, I would be in a much better position now. Not complaining though, and in hindsight, there was no way a newbie could have fully understood how cryptocurrency works.

if you don't tell us the evidence for the story, you may also want to trick us into believing that you have been scammed. Is this fair?
Is there any incentive to lie in this case? The thread does not require evidence, so posting them would be unnecessary.
Also, you'll be surprised how many people trust people they meet on the internet.
2477  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who saw the Bear market coming? on: January 09, 2022, 05:29:28 PM
There is no medal for guessing that the price of bitcoin would drop. If you are naturally pessimistic person and preach caution doom when ever the price rises, you will eventually appear to be right cause we have not achieved stability yet and the value tends to drop after reaching certain heights.

Following your 'victory dance' post, a lot of your friends who did not sell but waited for $60k actually benefited more. Those who did hodl through the recent peak just have to hodl longer, It is money you can afford to lose after all.
2478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Prophesy on: January 08, 2022, 05:53:32 PM
The first type of people will be those who got on the Bitcoin train voluntarily. And those who were “forced” because they had no other choice.
'Forced' is a word that does not correlate with bitcoin in any way. Bitcoin is meant to be an option that anyone can freely use without needing a third party and they are also free to not use it if they do not wish to.
2479  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to hit $100k? on: January 08, 2022, 02:29:32 PM
Nonetheless, experts may seem predicted the current situation and that bitcoin will likely to experience a steep drop in the upcoming months.
But is it really possible for bitcoin to achieve $100k by mid this year? Given that the market is currently declining.
When it comes to predicting bitcoin's market price, the word "expert" does not count, it is simply a gamble and your guess is as good as any.
Achieving $100k before mid year is definitely possible
Would it happen? We would have to wait and see.
The crypto market is unpredictable.
2480  Economy / Speculation / Re: Some important information about Bitcoin and the current state of Bitcoin on: January 08, 2022, 11:33:34 AM
Because in Bitcoin, the value of the token depends on the other coins. But since 2020, the condition of Bitcoin has been getting better.
It is actually the other way around. Most of the time, other coins tend to follow the price actions of bitcoin.

In 2021, the Bitcoin situation further improved, touching the highest level but not staying there for long, deteriorating and declining again.
You would not expect it to last for long at the peak price, it actually stayed up in the high range, above $60k for a while showing it was not just a pump up and a dump back down.

I want to know the reason why Bitcoin is such a valuable coin. What is the reason for the market situation? Bitcoin prices are expected to fall further at this time?
• Bitcoin is valuable because of the features it has, it is decentralized, immutable, secure and borderless,
• Market sentiments,
• Possibly, or not.
