1481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who have Hal Finney's bitcoin? on: October 28, 2022, 07:27:34 PM
because nobody could hack a stopped account
Do you mean a locked account?
This would be impossible to hack into as it would need the forum admin to unlock manually when adequate proof is provided.

wallet is not an easy thing to hack into. All the "hacking" so far in crypto required participation from the hacked person, when that person is dead there is no way.
It is impossible to bruteforce your way into a Bitcoin wallet.
The only way it can be breached is if the owner is careless with their keys or device.
1482  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some coins or a hardware wallet? on: October 27, 2022, 03:44:40 PM
How about just talking to your uncle and finding out his current level of interest and what he looks forward to learning or achieving from the crypto industry? This would be much better than getting ideas off random people on the internet.

There is a limited amount of options out there for what to gift someone related to crypto;
• one option is to introduce them to the forum and help them create an account, if they are internet savvy,
• another is to get them collectibles coins which they can hold and cherish (the older generation mostly prefer physical items).
1483  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MY JOURNEY SO FAR on: October 25, 2022, 06:19:50 PM
You've been a Jr member for quite sometime now but it still a thing of joy seeing your rank increase.
As can be seen on the activity calendar, th last activity window was on the 19th of this month, six days ago. Safe to say it's still very recent that OP ranked up.

To the OP, congratulations on your new rank. Older and higher rank members often do not see the need to celebrate each rank increase, especially those which are much lower, but it's always positive seeing new members join the forum and learn from it.

Good luck.
1484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think China will lose by banning Bitcoin? on: October 25, 2022, 04:56:23 AM
They would lose whatever benefit the innovative digital technology brings.

The Chinese government, like all other ones with a ban on Bitcoin, do not see it's potential value to be worth more than the strict control it has on the flow of money. Bitcoin cannot be controlled or regulated.

We've seen China ban or fine companies or individuals who has been vocal against the government, resulting in many elites moving out of China to less stringent nations
1485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Early Is It Now, For Those Who Missed Bitcoin In Its Early Days? on: October 24, 2022, 07:10:15 PM
Getting rich by buying an asset under 1$ and selling it in 5-10 years for ×100 or ×1000 is not something which comes around regularly. Simply put, Bitcoin was not acting like regular assets which many were into. With such investments, a profit of 5-15% annually was a huge one and what people fell back on when looking for where to keep their money.
But a potential ×10 or 1000% growth doesn't seem attractive enough now?

So for all the newbie small investors out there that have this same mindset as my brother, what would you as an OG, advice them to do?
Remember, they wanna become a millionaire, but they think since they can not afford to buy up to 0.5 bitcoin atleast, then bitcoin can not give them that millions they so desire.... What would be your advice?
If you want to become a millionaire invent something or start up a business, or learn a useful skill
If you want a hedge fund which would be resistant to inflation and potentially appreciate in value over time, them buy Bitcoin.

Majority of altcoins would not exist in a decade and your investments in then would be lost along with it.
1486  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best Bitcoin And Ethereum Strategy In 2022 on: October 24, 2022, 07:04:26 PM
Your post is better suited in the economics section or maybe altcoin discussion.

About the best Bitcoin strategy? That would be Holding if you own some of it or buying if you do not at the current discounted price

You can of course also diversify to other industries which are profiting more during these bear periods.
1487  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is Crypto Payment Forwarding and how does it work? on: October 24, 2022, 06:18:47 PM
A non-custodial acceptance of payments implies that a client provides addresses or xpub of HD wallet (BIP32) for transaction tracking and payment notification.
The txid is all you need to track a transaction on the blockchain and there are lots of services that can be used to achieve this.

The other parts of your thread are a bit confusing to me or not well explained.
For one;

If you use the same address to receive payments, it is difficult to determine who paid you, when, for what, and how much.
It is not actually difficult to determine this. On checking your wallet on electrum, you can easily view each input and the sender's address. You can also do this through a block explorer.

Forwarding is an intermediate option between custodial and non-custodial processing. This is a great way to start and roll out your new projects quickly.
Why would one need an "intermediate option" when they can easily stick with the safer option of a non custodian process?
1488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin certificates/ programs. on: October 24, 2022, 05:57:37 PM
What would be the benefit of the certificates? Bitcoin knowledge is not particularly a CV worthy addition at this time.

You can of course learn about Bitcoin and use that for your personal use; invest or trade (or mine if you have the capital). I personally don't see the purpose of a Bitcoin certificate or the desire by some to have Bitcoin taught to kids or college students. Niche assets can be learnt under financial education, which I believe should be an integral part of school's curriculum, but teaching each separately doesn't seem practical.
1489  Other / Off-topic / Re: What about a smartphone keyboard on: October 24, 2022, 05:50:25 AM
Yes, but ONLY when using a certain installed app say the keyboard you installed and also ONLY when you accept the permissions (e.g. files and media, camera, contacts, etc) of the app because android apps cant do something when a certain permission is denied.
The rule of thumb I go with when a device is potentially infected with a virus or malware is to assume that all systems are possibly compromised. Assuming the extent of the breach and the resulting damage to security and privacy could be misleading and lead to losses.

Safest alternative, use an airgapped device for sensitive information like wallet address etc.
1490  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it important to have a niche in this forum or not on: October 23, 2022, 07:02:49 AM
It's a question of interests. If after visiting the various boards and child boards you find yourself gravitating more towards a particular board(s), then you can try to learn more about that niche and grow your knowledge. You should not just try to force the development of a niche without any interest in it.

It also depends on previous knowledge. A political expert would be likely drawn to Politics & Society board, and a dev would be more drawn to technical discussions, while a casino player would be drawn to gambling discussions.
Note that a niche does not mean being limited to a certain board, you can spread your interests across two or three or four (or more) boards which you find an interest in and enjoy conversations on.
1491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do the best out of what you can control on: October 23, 2022, 06:56:07 AM
Making a post is effectively a factor of how much you've learnt and have to offer in discussions. If a user simply picked a random topic they have no interest in or knowledge in, and chose to make a thread on that by just simply doing a bit of research, it could come off as forced; For one, it might not be relevant to other members, or it may have already been discussed several times.

Learning is the key factor here, reading what others post, asking questions, not afraid to look silly as long as you learn.
Forum members, especially newer ones should understand that it's okay to not be very knowledgeable and it's okay to not make top tier posts and replies. What's not okay is if you're not learning or improving.
1492  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Nigerian Leads the Crypto (Bitcoin)World in Africa on: October 22, 2022, 07:17:11 PM
Nigeria is the most populous black nation and with a huge percentage of that amount being youths, with an inclination to technology, it's no surprise that it leads in Africa and is among the top nations on a global scale.

I would expect more growth in the couple of years, considering how slow Bitcoin was to catch up with the Bitcoin trend when compared with other Western countries, it would likely grow higher in the global list with time.
1493  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What makes Dev different on: October 17, 2022, 05:27:41 AM
1. What's the best marketing strategies to be taken in order to launch your own Crypto Project, With real Utilities and broad development

2. What's the best means of separating yourself from the Multitude of project developers out there. By showing off to investors that you're here for them and this is who you are. Totally different from the mode of operandi of countless dev out there. As you stay committed

3. Having spent time reading about the disadvantages of KYC by one of the senior Bitcointalk moderator. What's the best options or step to take by projects developers and owners in relationships towards this aspect.

4. Will a project be considered by investors as potential. if it's launched by a person under the age of 30s.

5. What are the factors to be considered before launching a project

1. If you've gotten the utilities aspect covered, marketing would depend on your budget and target audience. Popular social platforms for crypto discussions would be a go to place, such as bitcointalk, Reddit, Twitter etc. Announcing your project there would be a good approach.
Getting an influencer user to promote your project is expensive, but effective.
Investors are easily influenced and would easily follow the suggestion of a supposed influencer, without doing their research.

2. Communicate. Once you've built a sort of Community, you need to communicate with them effectively and also listen to the community.
Transparency is also an all important factor in building investor confidence.

3. If you're not required by law to provide it, then do not
If you are, have clear terms and how users can request their details be deleted and open policy on what 3rd party has access.

4. Definitely.

5. • Product (with real world utility),
• Team,
• Marketing,
• Developing (reaching your roadmap milestones)
• Looking to improve
1494  Other / Meta / Re: Having an "I solemnly swear / attestation / liar liar pants on fire" thread on: October 16, 2022, 06:20:27 AM
Without reading the topic title, it looked to me like a thread where other users can archive evidence, with a specific format regarding different users, so anyone looking for it can easily search using that format and find it, and I was down for that.

A thread where users are sworn to truth is not quite feasible, neither do I think it would be used or that a forum rule would be added cause of that.
If there is evidence to show out a user to be lying it should be posted, they should not be compelled to prove innocence by posting on a thread.
1495  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why newbies get banned on: October 12, 2022, 05:23:33 AM
During the past few days, i've come to realized that over zealousness to get recognized in the platform is leading most newbies toward destructions. With the recent compiling list of banned account i found on the platform, i could only wish. That those newbies really takes out time to study and stay banned free.
Stealing someone else's work and passing it off as yours is not an act of overzealousness.
Someone who is excessively enthusiastic would read more, post more, share more articles from various platforms etcetera. Plagiarism is a result of a desire to cheat the system and benefit from an idea or thought that doesn't belong to you.
1496  Other / Meta / Re: See this burst poster here. on: October 12, 2022, 05:08:38 AM
What should I do? Should I report him? Should I tell his campaign manager?

Do you think this way of posting is acceptable?
Are the posts spam? If yes, then you can report them to the moderator for them to take actions. If not, it isn't against forum rules. The forum has a cool down time which reduces as members rank up, and any post space allowed is normal.
It could be a issue with the campaign they are in, but not necessarily a forum one.

I don't know if this is /s post or not. I only see that its your history profile with just the way you describe about the time interval of posting in the last 5 posts or so.
Poker Player mistakenly linked to their own profile and not that of the user in question.
1497  Other / Off-topic / Re: Asking on behalf of a friend on: October 11, 2022, 08:25:17 PM
I don't know if this is still a fair plan or makes no difference.
It is a trade off, if your friend plans to save on cost. They already own a spare device which they can use as an airgapped device. The next step would be understanding how to create a wallet, sign a transaction etc, all without being connected to the internet.

Using finger prints and face unlock are unsafe ways to secure a device. A password has been discovered to be themoat secure.
1498  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Account Deletion on: October 11, 2022, 03:36:32 PM
you can not delete your account, otherwise you will ask for permission to banned your account.
Banning an account does not delete it, it just restricts one from posting on it. If that's the goal, locking your account;
• Either by attempting to recover it through secret question or,
• Attempting to change log in details and following the lock account opion received in the mail.

You can check the about privacy page for more information on what data the forum stores.
1499  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price consolidation at $20k for 4 months on: October 10, 2022, 07:04:45 AM
Market conditions affect all assets similarly, this does not mean there is a correlation between assets or they need to be decoupled, it just means that they are reacting to the current market actions, negatively or positively.

2) That BTC decouples from the SP500 during this situation and actually starts acting as a store of value and not just a good investment during low interest rates
I find this point ironic. Bitcoin has been one of the best performing assets of the last decade, not just during low interest rates.
1500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Censorship resistance is underrated, move to bitcoin and #DeletePaypal on: October 09, 2022, 01:39:57 PM
You're somewhat ironically spreading misinformation about their (now no longer existent) policy though, which is kind of funny.
You call it misinformation cause the ToS included 'may' and not a more certain been like 'would'? That seems like a reach imo.

"May" is many atimes used in describing the terms of service that users have to comply to, and agreeing to it means the user understands that the company or firm reserves the right to act on those terms outlisted.

Is it possible that if that term is still up users who are perceived to have violated it would have the set amount deducted from their balance. Yes.
If they do so, can they (PayPal) be sued or challenged for it? No, you agreed to the term.
