2481  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Socialists in Bitcoin(talk). on: September 10, 2021, 04:18:14 PM
I am surprised at the number of leftists I see on the forum. I mean people who in general believe that the state is the best guarantor of the progress of society, rather than being the particular decisions of individuals, which would be a more capitalist conception.

Except many if not most of the self-proclaimed right-wing individual-liberty champions on this forum have varying degrees of autocratic and populist leanings, cheering hardliners like the ones mentioned in the quote you posted (Bolsonaro and Bukele).

That's a far more bizarre thing for me to reconcile. Supporting strongman politics just because it aligns with my views... no, thank you. Been there, seen that, doesn't end well. I don't like the government getting into my business but I dislike random populist bullshit even more.

(edited for clarity)
2482  Economy / Reputation / Re: Reference topic: Why are these members excluded on trust lists? on: September 10, 2021, 02:11:09 PM
That would be very obvious Trust abuse.
(~~~)
You are incapable of defending yourself, which is why you attack those who accuse you of plagiarism.Stop deflecting, address your problems head on.  It's the only way to resolve them.
To me it seems like a weakness to try to defame the person who made some valid arguments. I still think the plagiarism rules should be adjusted, this shouldn't be allowed (see my reasons why). Big surprise: the guy who first posted about Ratimov's plagiarism received negative feedback the next day:

Image loading...

I can't help but think Ratimov was angry when he tagged those users. Here's another "brain-dead fucker". I don't know why Ratimov left them negative feedback in English, because I can't read the Russian Reference links. I see one very strong connection though: they've criticized Ratimov, so he tags them. And then you wonder why people use alt accounts? Allow me to quote myself:
Be the bigger man! With great power comes great responsibility (source unknown). Especially when you're on DefaultTrust (or if you want to be on DefaultTrust in the future), you shouldn't (ab)use that power by leaving (negative) feedback when someone does something you don't like. Your Sent feedback is what others use to judge your judgement. If someone on the internet is mean to you: boo fucking hoo! Use the Ignore button, and forget about them.

Fix your fucking quote before you get banned for plagiarism. It would be immensely amusing but I'm really tired of this sockpuppeting shit-stiring drama.

Bitcoiners buying folk wagons instead of Lambos. Bitcoin is clearly and truly dead for real this time.
2484  Other / Meta / Re: How many non-scams exist in Investor-based games? on: September 10, 2021, 01:59:04 PM
The solution? Perhaps we should make a sticky stating the dangers of this kind of "route" within the thread besides the main warning we give out? Perhaps with some examples of what happened in the past?

There is already a warning at the top of each thread. If you make it longer and more elaborate, users will be less likely to read it.

Loading...

In addition to that, a yellow type 1 flag can be added quite easily if you can explain why the specific thread is "high risk".

Then again, if we build such a strong case against advising people into participating in this thread, why shouldn't we let it exist in the first place, right?

I have a strong case against lying sockpuppets. That doesn't mean I should be nuking them on sight.

IBG has warnings and it's a confined little corner of Bitcointalk... probably the least of our problems.

After collecting points from Tom Brady, can I put him on the bench and replace him with Matthew Stafford or will that remove Brady’s points?

You will be able to move your players around for next week's game but you can't double dip this week by moving people who already played.

And by next week I mean starting next Tuesday or Wednesday or whenever the cut off is. Monday's game is still "this" week.
2486  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: September 10, 2021, 03:56:23 AM
Well, I managed to get less points with two WRs than some of you did with one. Could be worse though, could have negative points  Cool

Edit: or could have left 14 points on the bench... that would suck too Grin

Looking good for whoever picked Dallas D/ST  Grin

Mike Evans Anytime

Mike Evans MANY MANY times please. That's my only hope for this week LOL.

As for betting I put money on Bucs, Bills, 49ers, Ravens, Packers, and Jaguars but I'll probably hit no more than 3 of those. First game is my least favorite to bet on, it's a... gamble I guess you could say Grin.

2489  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump's Re-election Bid to Reclaim Power Come 2024 on: September 09, 2021, 05:17:47 PM
Once your party is set on the 'soundbites to power' path, the only real way to oust him is bring in someone who has some new soundbites. But even then it's difficult. Those new soundbites? Fake news.

There is no sign that the party actually wants to get off that path. They're doubling down on voting restrictions, gerrymandering, and other shenanigans to maintain electoral advantage while pandering to the extremists. Unless Trump croaks in the next couple of years, he'll be the 2024 nominee.
2490  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism: Where Do We Draw the Line? on: September 09, 2021, 01:53:24 PM
You'd first need a set of master data with all possible 6 word snippets of text from all the existing posts. (provided someone is copying only from existing Bitcoin posts). This would then have to be compared with the set of snippets formed from every new post. While this could be done, I believe the space and memory requirements would be pretty huge. Though, doesn't google do it for like, all of the internet? And Altavista used to do it at one time. Now, google has humungous capacity of course but I don't think that the old sites like Altavista had those.

There are clever indexing methods that make this kind of search relatively quick and also can match slight variations, even word spinning to an extent.

I'm not really sure what you're proposing (checking your posts against all other posts? why exactly?) but the plagiarism problem in general is not a technical one. We can use all sorts of tricks to catch plagiarists and they'll just make their posts more and more obscure - copying from outside sources, translating from other languages, etc - as long as there is a financial incentive to do so.
2491  Other / Meta / Re: Giving merit to people when you don't agree with them on: September 09, 2021, 01:38:05 PM
On the other hand, if one cannot convince me, I am almost certain I won't merit. It's not worthy. And I think that this is what basically anybody would do.

I doubt the "anybody" part. I would certainly merit a well-made argument even if I don't agree with the opponent. I would not merit fake facts - whether lies or delusions - if I can detect that when I read the post but I won't go out of my way fact-checking either (nor should merit be considered as confirmation/support/approval/endorsement/etc but that's a whole other story).
2492  Other / Archival / Re: airfinex - smoolae's alt ... or a bounty cheater? on: September 09, 2021, 02:53:21 AM
Most importantly, you do not overestimate his mind. Because he, too, can make mistakes typical for the majority:

https://bpip.org/Profile?p=airfinex - 12/5/2020 6:25:10 PM    woke up

The OP:

https://bpip.org/Profile?p=ScumBuster - 12/5/2020 10:49:43 PM    woke up

Good grief, you've gone full timelord. Two shit-stirring sockpuppets woke up on the same day because there was some drama going on at the time. That doesn't mean they're alts.

immediately rushed to write on the same topic with accusations about me

You're proving that DireWolfM14 was right.

Isn't it the sane Republicans that are freaking out?  The ones that lost their 'government positions'?

2494  Other / Archival / Re: airfinex - smoolae's alt ... or a bounty cheater? on: September 08, 2021, 06:07:07 PM
The connection between airfinex and smoolae seems solid but I don't see how that's relevant. It was obvious that the airfinex account is someone's sockuppet and sockpuppeting is allowed here.

bangkecol has a completely different posting style and is very unlikely to be related to airfinex/smoolae.
2495  Economy / Services / Re: Seeking help to track down Cyber Criminals on: September 08, 2021, 05:02:23 PM
My name is Dr. Wolfgang Kainz. I work for the U.S. Government in a special division. We are looking for help from the community to track down cyber criminals, e.g., scamming, stealing of bitcoins, hacking, etc. Your contribution will be rewarded on a case-by-case basis with crypto currencies.

Let me know how much I can get if I give you a criminal impersonating a government official.

once my identity is confirmed i will recommend you removal.

Hilarious.

In all reality, there's always a sleeper who goes disregarded this time of year.  Goff had a tough time last year, and the Lions have had a rough... existence, but stranger things have happened.

I was shocked to find out that Lions are not expected to be the worst 2021 team according to bookies. But I'm sure they'll work hard on rectifying that so that they could get the first pick and trade it away for something silly.

Who drafted Jared Goff?

Still available, you should definitely dump your bench warmer Rodgers for Goff Grin

Suddenly the poll is relevant again.

Re-start perhaps indeed

Nah it's fine, the result would still be the same Grin
