Yeah I was going to say the same thing, he has high income, he could easily continue paying off debt from the income, and finance the shiny car too.

I stopped reading at Hellcat. Obviously not a real bitcoiner. Hellcat is like NFT of cars.
1942  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How then should he his $300,000 collect? on: December 21, 2021, 01:49:58 PM
Large centralized exchanges have very complex sign up procedures, I've found; I could not even get an account at Gemini, they have this strange postal address system where you have to guess among various addresses which one is yours. I failed that.

I have a feeling you're not telling us something. Failing that means you have an address on your credit report that you don't know about. If that's what's going on, you might have other issues, like your identity being stolen - pull your credit report and verify. Otherwise it sounds like you're trying to open an account with a fake name.

ROFL youre a real baller eh? Your 1 BTC would be no good to me when it comes time for you to pay out and even if you were able to so it would be a ridiculous bet to take because if I win you can't pay but if I lose you have no reason to not get paid. 1 BTC wouldn't even get the bombardier ( I don't own one) far enough south if it all kicks off so do yourself a favour, head to vegas and spend it on the slots now before its too late or even better give it to charity. Appreciate the offer though. At least I know people read my posts now Grin

You're the one who asked about bets and this is Bitcoin forum and I'm offering you a solid Bitcoin bet.

Not that ever doubted that you're completely full of shit just like all these WW3 nutcases, but now there's proof.
1944  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: December 21, 2021, 02:57:22 AM
I'm taking it as sarcasm aimed at Golgoth for using 2 years out of date criticism of another campaign.

Not sure how that relates but seeing that he merited your post that's probably correct Smiley
1945  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: December 20, 2021, 11:08:26 PM
In other news, my guess is that since signatures are no longer shown on the WO thread, they will no longer be paid.

No longer? When was the last time signatures were visible there, or the last time those posts were paid?
1946  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 20, 2021, 10:36:08 PM
Talking about GPUs..I wanted to build a new PC..got everything, apart from the screwy GPU, which is nowhere to be found for a "normal" price.
There is no point of paying triple price, because for that price you can almost get the whole PC with the "offending" 3080 in it..but I just wanted the card. No can do, for more than a year already.

Used GTX 1080 for $400-500 (still overpriced but "only" by 100% or so) plays all games that I can throw at it. The whole GPU shitshow was already going off the rails before this "shortage" and I refuse to participate in it. (other than repairing blown mosfets and reselling because that's just business)
1947  Economy / Reputation / Re: Lauda back as Ratimov, (alleged) on: December 20, 2021, 10:26:11 PM
OP's trollfuckery aside, I don't know why so many users think that Lauda must be using some other account here. He seemed to be wealthy enough and fed up with Bitcointalk's "politics" so that it wouldn't be at all surprising that he found something better to do. Lots of users left over the years. More power to them.

One thing that doesn't quite make sense is the dramatic exit - if you wanna leave just leave - but perhaps Lauda felt that he had a certain reputation to uphold up to and including his last post.
1948  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How long to crack 24 word phrase if you know all 24 words out of order? on: December 20, 2021, 09:47:59 PM
19 million years. I am impressed,  because at first when I read the topic I thought it was possible.

It's also based on a very generous assumption about performance (1 billion permutations per second) so probably a lot more than 19 million years. Extrapolating o_e_l_e_o's example takes us into billions of years.

OTOH perhaps some very resourceful entity (a government, or Jeff Bezos) could potentially use millions of supercomputers and do it e.g. in 1 year... the question is - to what end? It's a very narrow use case, doesn't break Bitcoin protocol, and how many wallets are there that could be hacked this way and would justify the likely cost of $trillions?

At any rate, I wouldn't advise scrambling the words as a safety measure, tempting as it may be due to the above. The focus should be on keeping the seed physically secure and easy for the owner to recover.
1949  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the World in the Beginning Stages of World War 3? Are you #prepped? on: December 20, 2021, 08:14:18 PM
This is only a guess from a random internet troll of course but I will honour that bet if it happens and am still alive for a can of beans and a cripsy 100 trillion dollar zimbabwae note because money will be worthless. I am good for the can of beans though and will send you the 100T zim dollars if I am wrong Grin

Sad backpedaling.

If you change your mind and want to do an actual bet, 1 BTC says that you're wrong about WW3 breaking out before the end of 2022. Should be easy money for you, and unlike dollars it will likely be worth many cans of beans.

Has there ever been a case of a Bitcointalk scammer going to jail?

1951  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk posts as nft on: December 20, 2021, 05:23:28 PM
Luckily, once someone becomes an NFT owner of a Bitcointalk post, no one else can see the post publicly. You can no longer click on it, you can't copy-paste it, or quote it. It completely disappears from the face of the earth (Internet) and can only be found in the buyer's Ethereum wallet.

I like this. Can we NFT all scams and the Press board?
1952  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How long to crack 24 word phrase if you know all 24 words out of order? on: December 20, 2021, 04:10:36 PM
The 128 to 256 bits of entropy and the checksum which will add 4 to 8 more bits (depending on the number of bits of entropy) that result to seed phrase generation are secure and safe and makimg seed phrase  brute force impossible.

That's not what the OP is asking.

Even if you have the 24 words to guess from?

Still quite unfeasible:

1953  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How then should he his $300,000 collect? on: December 20, 2021, 01:22:10 PM
~

Now in plain English, what exactly do you want? Cash in a suitcase? Money order? Gold bar?

There are different ways to go about this. However since you're not evading taxes there doesn't seem to be any substantial reason to replace the perceived risk of an exchange or a bank with the very real risk of getting mugged if you try some back alley deal here.

1954  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 20, 2021, 04:26:56 AM
Now I'm beating myself up for not starting the NO D/ST against the Bucs, lol.

If I'm not mistaken last time Bucs were shut out was in 2012 (also a December game against Saints), and last shutout for Brady was in 2006 (?).
1955  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 19, 2021, 09:41:36 PM
How about them Lions... trying so hard to lose that first pick.

Ok, I will admit it was good to see 'zona crushed even though Conner's performance (or lack thereof) will probably lose me my match.
1956  Economy / Reputation / Re: The curious case of user 🏰 TradeFortress 🏰 on: December 19, 2021, 04:22:34 PM
TF is a total sociopath and a natural-born fraudster. He seems to have a specific style in which he conducts his scams.

A "hack", funds lost, (optionally) customers trolled, excuses years later. See Hashie.

I expect one of the crappy mixer sites to turn out to be TF's new scam.
1957  Other / Meta / Re: Does DT abuse exists? on: December 18, 2021, 09:17:37 PM
Do you guys think DT Abuse exists? What if a DT-1 and DT-2 Member Include someone on their Default Trustlist who actually never left any feedback to anyone? My question is, You are a DT-1 or a DT-2 Member, How can you include someone on your trust list while that user never left feedback to anyone? How do you Trust that user's Judgment if he never left feedbacks to anyone?

If the person hasn't left any feedback then there isn't any abuse, is there?

As for trusting one's judgement... people post and express their opinions, including on topics related to trust, trading, etc. I have in the past included users whose judgement on these matters was sound even though they haven't left many or any trust ratings, and encouraged them to participate in the trust system. I don't recall any issues with that so I'm sure it can work out just fine. One can be quickly unincluded or excluded if problems arise. A much bigger issue is "legacy" DT members who sometimes go off the rails but tend to remain in DT because they have accumulated a lot of inclusions, and other users are reluctant to act against them because of possible retaliation or whatever. But that's a whole other topic.
1958  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ledger Card Honeypot on: December 18, 2021, 09:01:17 PM
I've only staked a worthless altcoin, where staking worked straight from the Bitcoin Core clone, without exchange. I assume the same would work on ethereum, but the minimum is about half a Lambo worth of that coin. So staking leads to further centralization, who would have thought.

It's a bit different with Ethereum in that (a) you have to send the coins the the beacon chain (AKA ETH2) and while you can hold the keys, you can't really withdraw the coins until some future hardfork and (b) there are uptime requirements - you can get penalized if your validator node goes down. Looks like this Ledger service is trying to solve these two issues (not sure about the first part though but presumably you can sell the staking tokens, perhaps at a slight loss), as well as allow staking less than 32 ETH. Nothing particularly wrong with that, there are other similar services, but it's definitely perpendicular to the purpose of a hardware wallet.
1959  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 17, 2021, 11:02:20 PM

Good advice. Make sure to call Bitcoin a ponzi and tell everyone that you've shorted it with 100x leverage. OPSEC.

This is what happens when coaches follow sabermetrics without using their common sense

If "go for it on every 4th" is what their analytics told them then it's seriously broken or they're using it wrong. This isn't a completely random chance of some probability (for the reasons you already mentioned; e.g. if they're running the same play) and even if it was, variance would be huge due to small sample size.

Edit:

it is going to be interesting if Goodell actually fulfills his promise of not moving games and force teams to forfeit the game if they cannot play due to covid issues.

Yeah, about that...
