Refugees fleeing Ukraine (since 24 February 2022)
Russian Federation       8 Mar 2022    99,300

My apologies, there were 96000 other people that fled before the war plus the 99000 after the war started. Sorry this one word was such a hard trigger for you. My excuse is that your link doesn't open in Tor and the numbers I was thinking about were from a few days ago.

My point still stands, Putin is not being accused of bombing people in DNR/LNR or Russia, he's being accused of bombing people in the parts of Ukraine that aren't under his control.

And while I deserve the ridicule for getting one fact wrong in the post where I told you to get your facts right, this...

Quote
Why do you hold people in this thread for imbeciles, you deceive, manipulate, and now straight out lie? Is it because 100.000 Ukrainians illegally fleeing to Russia since February 24th during a Martial Law undercuts your whole narrative that evil Putin indiscriminately killing Ukrainians? And justifies keeping 200.000 civilian without food water and power from evacuating a besieged city? I was expecting more out of you. I hold this place to higher regard, back up your claims or GTFO, this is not the place for hive minds go to social network with your trolling.

... is fucking mad. Get help before it's too late.

Quite informational, thank you. Do you know if there is there a possibility of getting a citizenship long term?

Sorry, I don't know about citizenship off the top of my head.

I'd say if the goal is to get out, they should get out now and worry about citizenship later once the dust settles. I can imagine that it may get more difficult and more expensive to leave if the collapse of the ruble continues and the economy is cratering. There are already limits on currency exchange, how much you can take across the border, etc. No restrictions on foreign passports yet AFAIK.

The largest Ukrainian diaspora is in Russia - Russia is targeting civilians and trying to kill all Ukrainians

Nice strawman but obviously the accusation is that Putin is choosing to bomb civilian targets, not that he is killing Ukrainians in e.g. Russia.

Despite Martial Law and checkpoints 100.000 Ukrainian refugees still somehow managed to flee to Russian side

The vast majority of those happened before the war from Donbas, i.e. region already controlled by Russia. Again, why would Putin kill civilians in territories he controls. Russian forces are accused of indiscriminate bombing, of which there is plenty of evidence, and they aren't really denying it (the excuse is "human shields").

~ tons of other BS that seems to be of roughly similar post-factual quality ~

So there are basically two lines of argument here: 1) what about others doing x, y, and z (not to be confused with Russian military vehicle markings), and 2) what about all the incorrect things said about this war.

You could start fixing it by getting your own facts right.

Even McDonald’s will temporarily close all 850 restaurants in Russia.

It's fine, Donetsk already figured out a solution after Micky D's left the town:

It's not like they have to worry about trademarks and whatnot.

Does anyone have experience with smuggling ppl out of Russia during wartime? I have a friend and an uncle (and his family) who are Russian, living in Russia now.
They want to gtfo asap and don't know of any possibilities. Because the world is unfairly against all Russians, I doubt they will get refugee status and they might get arrested if found trying to cross the border.

Get passports and fly to Armenia or some other country that doesn't require visas. Some allow staying up to 6-12 months, some (Georgia IIRC) will reset the counter if you leave just for a day, so basically indefinitely.

Kazakhstan (no visa up to 90 days) might be cheaper to travel to if flight tickets to other countries are sold out, which they most likely are.

Don't try smuggling, that won't end well.

Which is why I believe that BTC is still going to be the best place for DeFI, if BTC supported smart contract from scratch damn maybe we won't have so many crappy projects today, I'm looking at you rbtc and SOVRYN.

It's Bitcoin's fault that there are shitty projects thus Bitcoin should implement something or other to allow that shit on its blockchain? That your "argument"? Fucking hell.

Again, two wrongs... but you already know that, so what's your point here? The war is fine, the reaction to it is bad? Honestly I'm struggling to follow. If you want to ignore what's happening in Ukraine I'm sure no one will arrest you for doing so.
1550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 08, 2022, 04:45:04 AM
As to your other angle, it all comes down to perspectives or frames of reference if you wish. One side tries to frame the conflict in terms of a separate, individual localized incident where Russia out of the blue attacks small Ukraine for a land grab. Very easy to argue for Ukraine as a victim and dismiss Russia with crazy Putin as a big bad aggressor, pretty clear cut whats good and bad.

Georgia 2008, Ukraine 2014, no, it's not "individual localized", it follows the pattern of Putin attempting to resurrect a totalitarian dictatorship, collapse of which he not-so-subtly called the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century.

But taking a step back and looking at a bigger picture you realize that suddenly things are not so simple, and some things don't make sense at all. Clearly by officially providing live intel and 17,000 anti-tank missiles and 2,000 stinger anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine makes it a proxy war for superpowers with Ukraine stuck in the middle.

How does it not "make sense at all" for Ukraine to acquire defensive capabilities after the aforementioned aggressions? Surely it makes at least some sense if you really want to step back and take a look at the whole picture and not just Putin's "interests".

Now this is where things get very nuanced, not so black and white, and now whats good and whats bad isn't so clear anymore. Just because things are complicated doesn't make Russia right, but people start thinking, and this is not the field mass media and people with agenda, want to play on.

No, it's still actually quite clear, no need to muddy the waters here. If Alice robs Bob's house and Carol's house and Carol buys a baseball bat and Alice comes back to rob Carol 8 years later, no sane person would think that this is complicated or nuanced.
1551  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 07, 2022, 09:06:22 PM
I have specifically highlighted this part of your answer and removed the rest.  The remaining part of your message is the reason I will abstain from expressing my opinion about your reply.  I will only have two things to comment.  The way I see it is, the difference between what Putin has done and what Ukraine and their supportive countries have done is that one of them does things directly with immediately felt effects while the other seems to do the same things in a more silent, indirect, suppressive manner that makes them look innocent and like a savior to the rest of the world.

I'm not aware of Ukrainian government (even silently or whatever) invading Russia, bombing their civilians, arresting their own citizens for protesting, banning all independent media, etc, so no, that's not where the main differences are.

It is literally Russia being condemned for everything they do but when the United States or any European country does it, it is cheered and supported.  Is this really Whataboutism?

It is. Two wrongs don't make a right. If you can't make a coherent argument why some typically bad thing (like a military invasion) is actually good without resorting to "but others do it too", then said thing is probably not good.

Hyperbole doesn't help either. Russia literally condemned for everything it does? No. Not Russia, Putin, and not for everything, just the bad things he does (like a military invasion), although being a totalitarian dickhead he tends to do a lot of bad things.
1552  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 07, 2022, 06:28:19 PM
Are we so brainwashed we support local censorship but condemn Russians for doing the same?  Are we so brainwashed we call Putin's acts inhumane but we support hatred against average Russians who have nothing to do with this?  I have no idea.  One thing is sure, we are being lied one way or another.  Orwell was right.  We are currently living in his world without a doubt.  If someone has a contradictory argument, please come up and write it down.  I am really too confused by what is going on to understand what is good and bad anymore.

You've fallen into the trap of false equivalence.

Putin's regime attacked an independent country, lied about "military exercises" / no intention to attack Ukraine / "special operation" / not targeting civilians; threatened with nuclear weapons; persecutes, beats up, arrests people for merely saying "no to war", and that's just off the top of my head for the last couple of weeks.

Ukrainian government possibly lied about their losses in the war.

Same thing?

Surely some kremlintroll will be around soon to tell me that some Ukrainian lied about something else too. Also the US invaded countries. Et cetera. Whataboutism is a favorite tool of Soviet propaganda, very easy to use and quite effective on a mass scale.

Then there is this whole "average Russians" thing. I don't know who's telling you to hate them but you shouldn't. Average Russians are victims of the regime too.

As an American I can give two shits about this war in the Ukraine. From what I've understood, the Balkans have always been contentious region of the world ripe for war.

At least learn to stereotype correctly... Balkans Roll Eyes

1555  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: March 06, 2022, 06:17:15 PM
I think Putin's apologists will soon have something else to worry about. It looks like protests in Russian cities are gaining intensity, despite beatings and arrests by the police. Obviously pro-Putin media isn't gonna report on it, and other outlets have been banned or voluntarily packed up due to new censorship laws, but there is still Telegram and other apps.

Holding cells are filling up so I'm guessing shooting at crowds would be the next step.
1556  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: March 06, 2022, 01:56:29 PM
That's your best argument? Asking for a proof that something wasn't dangerous?

You're making the claim, you should substantiate. Is that not how it works?

yeah you try to make it through a checkpoint of the besieged city during a martial law after that.

You seem to be a bit confused as to who's surrounding those two cities. Hint: it ain't Ukrainians.
1557  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: March 06, 2022, 02:46:18 AM
That's not how it works, you can't say you trust Red Cross's guarantee just to turn around and claim not to trust their judgement on safety. Red Cross is capable of calling off any operation themselves. Once people are allowed to leave they come under additional protection of the red cross, any attack on a red cross convoy is a direct violation of the Geneva Convention. You seriously trying to say that innocent civilians are safer in the city which is about to be attacked than under the protection of the Red Cross?

I did not say any of the things that you're ascribing to me. Still waiting for your proof that the evacuation route was safe and clear and that the Ukrainians were trying to hold the people hostage. So far there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.
1558  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: March 06, 2022, 01:24:15 AM
Jesus man!! Should innocent civilians (children, women, elderly etc) be allowed to leave an actively besieged city which is currently without power and water, with the guarantee from the Red Cross? Yes or No? If not, whos else guarantee do you want before letting those people go? Or are you saying those people shouldn't be allowed to leave at all, as long as one side can claim that theres shelling going around?

Yes, they should be allowed to leave. However Red Cross can't guarantee protection against shelling. It relies on Russian compliance, which did not happen.

And people did try to leave:

"I'm right now in Mariupol, I'm on the street, I can hear shelling every three to five minutes," said Alexander, a 44-year-old engineer and resident of the city.

The green corridor set up to get people out was not working, he said.

"I can see cars of people who tried to flee and they are coming back. It is chaos."
1559  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: March 06, 2022, 12:05:34 AM
Notice how you're at that stage of the argument where you're just bombarding me with your questions without even attempting to address any of mine.

Bombarding LOL, nice choice of words here comrade. I'm getting back at your original post about the evacuations and trying to understand what you were trying to say there. It didn't have any questions (unless you count WTF as a question). It sounded like you were blaming solely the Ukrainian side. Now you've confirmed that that's indeed what you are doing. Still unclear what you wanted to happen if there was indeed shelling going on, or any proof that there wasn't any shelling, but I don't expect a direct answer given your fallacious "both sides" argument. Have fun playing with your straw people.

There is this video that some people think is fake because Putin looks like he's greenscreened into it (hand going through the microphone and whatnot).

Anyway, another thing that's weird about it is that usually he's keeping a huge distance (e.g. sitting at a hilariously long table, or across a large room like in the OP photo) from even his closest subordinates, and here just chilling in close contact with a bunch of supposedly random strangers.
