No one believes any real government will default

This is bizarre,  since throughout history, it's pretty much the rule that governments default eventually.  Of course, most people these days haven't a clue about history, since they are 'schooled' by the very same defaulting governments.

The difference is this time there are these bailout entities such as the IMF, who's sole purpose is to keep creditors 100% whole and socialize loses (on us). It's not that people believe governments such as Greece won't default, but that a bailout entity will come in and save the day.

Greece?!   Compared to England, France, Japan, USA, (Your Country HERE) their default won't cause much of a (ehem) ripple.  None of these people have absolutely ANY intention of paying back.  They can't even afford the negative interest rate lol  This just cannot transition smoothly.  IMF et al might be able to bail out smooth over whatever for Greece.  And Portugal. And Spain. And Ireland... What will they be able to do when the measurable economies start to default?  And They Will.  Government spending only slows when the host has expired.
2522  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 15, 2015, 02:05:28 AM
Does everyone realize that taxes are due tomorrow in the US (April 15th)? The recent sell off is obviously miners cashing out to pay taxes. Nothing to worry about.

Do you think everyone lives in the US? I remember their population is less than 300 million. World is more than 7 billions.

True but those 300 million control the planet like it or not.

50 million of those are on food stamps,  and working toward 100 million unemployed...  Ahh, the American dream!
2523  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: April 15, 2015, 01:58:59 AM
See that is the problem.  People are mixing up their anti-government/anti-establishment sentiments with good science which has changed the world for the better.

if everyone is catalogued, monitored, evaluated by algorithms without their consent, watched for "anomalous behaviour", data-mined for increasing corporate profits and basically treated as a herd of chattels for State "tax farming" is the world really better? (albeit slightly healthier)

be careful of the utopia you wish for

This is exactly why Monero appeals to me. Without privacy, human freedom, dignity, and progress will die.

I don't know about die, but can you say... bubble?   You just know it's going to *pop* .  those things you listed, along with population, will be substantially reduced before making another run up.

2525  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 15, 2015, 01:30:03 AM
*sigh* I guess other than AMHash on the 20th my ASICMiner saga is over. Cashed out shares and got 2% of the BTC I had put in. (I'm not even going to look at the USD to buy the BTC.) I thought FC could pull Gen4 off but....

I still have 20 Gen 1 Blades and backplanes... for the museum I guess.

EDIT:  Is anyone having problems with Havelock withdrawals ??

EDIT2: I guess it takes days now not minutes.

I  dumped some AM1 a few days back, and the withdrawal took ~12 hours.   I emailed, and the response (after the transaction completed) was that they are processing all withdrawals manually.

Edit:

Hello,

All withdrawals are being verified and processed manually. We are working on a new development that will make the bitcoin transfers much more secure but until then we recommend not to use your Havelock wallet for direct payments to a third party.

Thank you,

I just invested and bought .14 btc of this coin. Can someone tell me what I got myself into?

Shouldnt you first ask and then buy? Anyway welcome aboard. Remember, monero isnt a two days investment.

No, however it is today's  investment.  And tomorrow's.

We discussed this gambit years ago. It's hilarious to see it play out exactly as predicted. The oligarchs rabble rabble.

If anything, it will be a tacit admission of Satoshi's brilliance minus the currency unit. Without the unit there is no incentive for miner or user participation.

In fact, I'd like to see them secure it with SHA256. Just for the lulz of seeing them get 51% attacked.
*nods*

Surely somebody in that camp can understand this.

Still with the low low deposit fees  Tongue

Looks like, it is only question of time when somebody will steal your pKeys. There are endless possibilities how to do it. ... Can sidechains with multi layers of defense save our stored value?

edit:

http://www.top10spysoftware.com/

But then similarly, it is only a question of time before someone transfers all your money out of your online checking account.  Which can also be frozen, the funds confiscated, their availability limited, or their value discombobulated by non-market forces.
Aslong as bank is solvent that is ok

It would seem that you must search far and wide to find a bank that is truly solvent these days, however.

Polo why you no let me buy??!

Keeps crashing my phone lol
Oh well, up is a good direction, regardless.
If poloniex is slow on your phone it may help to set the chart to 6h. The script has to do a lot more work to show the chart at say "All" and it may freeze.
Thank you, I will try that!
2531  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 10, 2015, 04:34:55 AM

For all the purchases you would like the government to know about, there's bitcoin XMR.TO. For everything else, there's Monero.
 Grin

 Wink

It would be a nice dream, but I think when you try to buy anything substantial (real estate) they are gonna ask where you got the money, and I don't think XMR.TO is gonna cut it.

Really I think they will be so greedy to get their cut via capital gains tax or whatever they dream up next that my coins will be acceptable regardless of how many exchanges they've been through.

That sucks.. I actually reached out to cavirtex and tried to make an offer on the business. Looks like I lost! Sad

Might have been worth something, prior to closing out all of the accounts   Huh

In theory, could my anonymity be compromised by too many other people publishing their view keys?

Well let's assume everybody did. Then you would have a coin where all transactions are traceable (except yours, and yours would be the only ones left so...). That's obviously not the goal here, but if everybody wants that, there's nothing you can do. You can't hide a needle without a haystack.

However, it is indeed not good to encourage too much reliance on view keys. That's why, for example, MRL-0004 has an alternate method for auditing of individual transactions that does not involve the broad brush of a view key.

I know you guys aren't aiming to be alphabet proof but perhaps one day in the future it could be a goal and it is concerning because we might imagine that some mass surveillance agency might be able to put together a rather comprehensive database of view keys.

Once the view key has been seen by someone other than yourself, consider the privacy of that address compromised and migrate funds to a secure (private) address. Better yet, never share a view key except for purpose specific, (single use?) addresses.  Let them watch a vacant house all they want.
2535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 06, 2015, 09:04:02 AM
I wonder how many of the "bitcoin companies" are really just "crypto companies", and can easily pivot or add another coin to their service. I think that VCs probably have considered the slight possibility of another crypto overtaking bitcoin, and they would probably want their companies to be able to quickly adapt and become a forerunner of this new coin.

Let's make a bet. If monero reaches parity with bitcoin in 3 years, and given that it wasn't because crypto completely failed (so say the market cap of xmr > 8 billion)

Then I'll invite you to my mansion (that I haven't yet bought, of course) for a week-long feast, party 24-7. Cheesy

We'll  be partied out before that  Tongue
2536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 06, 2015, 05:34:30 AM

I first saw that one on a T-shirt years ago, and attributed to various sources since then.  I like to pull it out for the dumb motherfuckers, from time to time  Wink

When I looking around to see where it came from most sources said the Walking Dead, but the comic book series not the TV show. The former dates back to 2003, so the T-shirt could be come from that. If there is an earlier source let me know and I will update my sig.

IIRC I first encountered it around 2009 or -10, so you are likely correct.  Regardless, it still makes me smile.

Now you know Monero's dirtiest little secret - you're all prancing and hopping behind a lunatic.   Cry

The thing about smart motherfuckers is they sound like crazy motherfuckers to dumb motherfuckers.

^This is so close to becoming my sig--this or a Nietzsche quotation.

I am adding it. Too good to pass up!

13 days later, account is funded.  Still no response to inquiry,  no comment on the 3-5 days promise.  Are we SURE this isn't cavirtex rebranded?  Roll Eyes

That's what I was wondering about as well
Anyways best of luck with your slow ... progress towards getting coins
(Mumble if only it was 2013 and a wire transfer away)

I finally got an email yesterday, (in response to my second attempt, that day) stating sorry for the inconvenience, but still no answer to, or about, my first inquiry. Also a comment regarding the disconnected phone, which should be cleared up by now. Anyway,  CDN in, BTC out, done deal.  Took time on a cavirtex scale, but eventually all complete.  I'll do it again some time, but I won't hold my breath for any 3-5 day transfer.  Some things just don't change, must be a  Canadian thing  Roll Eyes  I hate to imagine the delays during a BTC growth spurt.

Once Monero has a GUI, I doubt I will ever use Bitcoin again. Monero will be superior in every possible way. (Except maybe user base and market cap at first, but that can be resolved  Wink)

Ditto.  Bitcoin is just transitional.
XMR.TO ftw
