2602  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Wallet file on: December 24, 2020, 09:11:54 PM
Like ranochigo said, there is no extension to an Electrum wallet file.  It's location depends on your OS, and which version of Electrum you used.

By default Electrum will name the first wallet created "default_wallet," the next will be named "wallet_1," then "wallet_2," so on and so forth.  You can use your OS shell explorer to search for files with those names.  Don't forget to search for hidden files.

If you installed Electrum on your system the files will be located in the following locations:

Windows: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets
Mac: /Users/<user>/.electrum/wallets

I'm curious, at what point in the week do you all place your bets?
in general I don't expect to make money gambling

^This.

If you look at it as another form of entertainment, you won't be disappointed.  Some folks are able to consistently make enough money to earn a living, but I would guess that requires a lot of time for research and a lot of discipline.  I find myself lacking both.  I'll be happy if I break even by the end of the season.

I just went through my history on the sportsbook I use, and I'm 5 out of 25...  20%.  Currently I'm up 4mBTC on the season, micro-betting on EPL and NFL games.  Before the win I had on Monday night I was net even with the sportsbook.  I had to go out-of-pocket to bet on the Bengals.  Shocked

Anyway to answer ChiBitCTy's question directly, I prefer to place bets just before the game or during play.  With the NFL specifically there so many intangibles that can affect play, that I find it easier to make predictions during play.  I only do that if the game is broadcast in my local market, and I can watch it live.  Read above and you'll know why this is NOT financial advice.

Similar thing happened to me this past weekend on my NFL multi.  Missed it by that much <holding up two fingers, very close together.>

But that's all it takes, half a point.  Luckily I had it insured and got my stake back as a free bet.

I wanted to take Arsenal's odds against City in the EFL cup match, but I already learned the hard way it's not a good idea to bet on your favorite team...

Especially if it's Arsenal.  Undecided

I think the most interesting game is Raiders / Dolphins but its hard to see an obvious bet on the line or game, for that matter. On one hand, Tagovailoa is young and inexperienced and may feel overwhelmed with pressure as playoffs near. On the other hand, Dolphins cover the spread 28.6% more of the time than the Raiders.

Whether Carr or Mariota starts, Raiders are perfectly capable of winning this one, which is why I'm just gonna sit this one out.

If Mariota starts, I'm going to wager a small amount on the Raiders.  Carr's a good enough quarterback, but they don't use him in the run-option the way Gruden uses Mariota.  Strange really, because I don't think Carr is incapable of running the ball like Mariota.  But Mariota throws a wildcard onto the field, and that may be enough of an edge to win this one.  The Dolphins however, are in control of their destiny, if they can win out they'll get a slot.  The Raiders hopes aren't dead yet, they also need to win but they need Baltimore to lose twice and Miami to lose next week as well.  Baltimore has NYG and the Bengals coming up, soooo...  Yeah.

Arizona / SF also looks like it could be a good game as the Cardinals would like to win this one to keep playoff hopes alive, and SF could basically care less (relatively speaking). Both teams only have 1 win a piece since Nov. 1st. SF has a ton of injuries, including QB Mullens who was just ruled out for the season yesterday, meaning Beathard will start.

Bethard will come out and play like a mad-man...  For two possessions.  Roll Eyes

Yes, morvillz7z had ML bets, but iirc there was some discussion earlier as well, that you better not place any bets on teams out of PO contention, because they will go for better draft position etc.. And even in sports betting in general you have often hear this reasoning of teams having nothing to play for. But these are all pro athletes and despite them earning big money, they want to win, they want to compete* And it's easier to perform, when no one expects anything from you anyway.
Football being such a tough sport I think there are probably other factors at play here, and might even be more significant that playoff motivation and whatnot. More injuries at the end of the season for example - higher-ranked teams might be more affected. Divisional games vs games with less-acquainted teams. Cold weather.

I'm a blooming newb when it comes to sports betting so I may be off kilter here, but I think applying this standard of gambling logic to football could be misleading.  Football players are wired differently.  They're not just athletes, they're gladiators.  They have a chip on their shoulder, they're always out to prove something.  They seem to get themselves worked up and motivate to an extent that few team-sport players seem to achieve.  I don't think I've ever seen a team or a coach give up on a season just to secure the first round draft pick.  More accurately would be assume that any team with a losing record would love to spoil the record of a high-flying winning team, they look at it like it's their playoff game.  Always something to prove.

I know I said I was gonna sit-out the Monday night game, but sometime during the second quarter I lost my ability to resist.

Thank you Bengals!  Back in black, baby!

The Steelers are now my favorite team to bet against.  I really think they're going to drop 5 in a row to finish the season.  They've got the Colts this weekend, and the Browns next.  I'm looking forward to watching both of these games, they should be a lot of fun.

The other game that's slated to be a lot of fun this weekend; Tennessee at Green Bay.  I won't make the call on this one until the game is underway, but the bookies are giving the Packers the advantage.  The Pack is locked into the playoffs, but they still want the top seed and the first-round bye. Right now it's theirs to lose.

BTW, ESPN's playoff machine is full swing.  Here's my prediction for Wild-Card weekend:

I'm sure they'll find a way to screw me over just like the last two times.

The Bucs went down 17 to 0 yesterday, then came back to win.  Of course they screwed up my multi bet by half a point, so you may have that to look forward to.

Anybody taking the Bengals at +14 tonight?

I'm sitting this one out, still butthurt over the <see above>.  But I did consider taking the under.  I expected cold weather, and lots of running plays...  See, that's another good reason for sitting this one out.

3.6% dude

It's almost like I'm the opposite of clairvoyant.  Next time I go on a rant about how this or that is so unlikely, please remind me of this episode, lol.  I might just have to gamble on being wrong, and all will be well with the world.

Granted the decision by Panthers to go for that last field goal was unusual. Most coaches would have gone for a touchdown in that situation, so it would have been 11 or 5 or 3 points at the end, all other things being equal.

Yeah, that decision by Matt Rhule surprised me.  You don't trust your offense can get you the 6, 7, or 8 points on that possession, so you'll force them to score 8 on the next?  Fucking brain dead.

Two TDs vs two field goals? IIRC 8 points happens about 3% of the time, similar to 2 and 5 point margins.

That's a good point, and believe me, math is a strong point of mine.  I can see that sort of thing happening while the game is in the early stages, but as time winds down teams aren't likely to settle for feildgoals when their down by touchdowns.  That stat about how frequently those spreads pop up is interesting, where did you find that?  3% is actually less than I would have guessed, but I can see that.

Brave bet, bordering on nutty IMO. If you win this I will reward you with 3 whole merits. Bills @ -17.5? You must be expecting quite a stomping.

The 17.5 is the Bills team total, not the HC Wink If it was HC, the odds would be way higher than 2.28; HC-17.5 for the Bilils you could get for around 4.50. And you can't parlay ML+HC of course (would be nice, if one could though Grin).

Oh.. yeah apparently I didn't get it.

Nope, that's Bills total points Over 17.5, not spread, nothing crazy here  Smiley

Edit: Well they covered 17.5 and you won your bet anyway, so I am awarding you the 3 merits.

Lol, they sure did.  I thought I was walking on the wild side by taking them at -6.5!
2613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: MEW Wallet? on: December 19, 2020, 08:31:41 PM
It's starting to sound like you are trying to restore the wrong seed phrase or you miswrote one of the words.  Do you have any other seed phrases written down?  If not, you can go through the Bip39 word list and look for words that you could have transcribed erroneously.  I've gotten tripped up with liberty and library in the past...  Words that share the first three letters could be the culprits.

That's why I suggest you never use a wallet until you confirm that you can restore it.

2614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: MEW Wallet? on: December 19, 2020, 07:26:03 PM
What happened is the I had my MEW on an iPhone which got lost.  I purchased a new iPhone and downloaded the MEW app.  I opened the app and inputed my 24 word phrase from my original MEW.  The MEW opened up but it now has a different public address than my original MEW and all of my ETH and tokens are gone.  I went to Etherscan and entered my public address and it shows all of my ETH and tokens still there.  How do I get them back into my MEW.  I thought that the whole purpose of having the 24 words was to make sure that you could fully restore you MEW?

Double check your 24 word phrase carefully.  It's been a while since I restored a wallet in MEW, but IIRC it tries to predict the words as you're entering them, it may have gotten one wrong and you didn't notice.  Hopefully you wrote the words down correctly in the first place, that would be the other possible error.

When creating a wallet with seed phrases, don't assume anything.  Best practice is to create a wallet, make note of at least one public address, then restore the wallet, and ensure the address you noted is included before using it.

Congrats for getting your account back.  Sorry to go off-topic, but did it really take 4 years to recover the account?  If so, was it because you didn't contact admin about it, or was it just that long of a backlog?

As for Lauda's feedback, currently Lauda is on DT2 with a strength of 0.  All it would take is one more DT1 member to exclude Lauda from their trust list and the review will drop from your trust score.

@DireWolfM14 said that Allen is on the injury report, but I can't find him there, so he will be fit I guess. Do you have a link Dire ?

The official NFL site's injury report: https://www.nfl.com/injuries/

The list doesn't specify the injury, but I think it's a lingering knee and ankle sprain he suffered a couple of weeks ago.  He's been practicing all week, so I'm sure he'll start.
2617  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 19, 2020, 06:21:40 PM
spread of -7.5, which is the most worthless spread in football.

Agreed, I'd rather leaves everyone of those games alone.  7.5 and 3.5 point spreads always seem like trap games that gets ruined at the end of every game.  Under in the buff game and over in the Packers game

Buff 23 - den 13
GB 34- Carolina-24

Enjoy the games

-3.5 isn't bad, a touchdown vs. a fieldgoal will put a team up by 4, that's actually very common.  And +3.5 obviously if your pick loses by a fieldgoal.

But a team closing a game up by 8 isn't common at all.  It could happen if the team goes for the two point conversion because they're concerned the other team is going to score a touchdown in there next possession (but don't,) but that's a huge risk.  Yeah you might be sealing your win, but just as likely sealing your loss.  No HC would make that call unless his kicker is on crutches.

A combination of two field goals and a safety could put a team up by 8, but again safeties are very rare.  I seem to recall a couple of teams missing the point-after a couple of times these past weeks, and that could do it, but none of the games I recall finished with that spread.
2618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 19, 2020, 05:46:56 PM
I'm always on other 49ers forums and everyone is continually bashing Garoppolo because he is a "bad player" but when he's healthy, he's generally a well above average QB - he just has the injury bug.  Niners were smart to create the contract the way they did.  It's a pipe dream for us to get Lawrence.  I would prefer Zack Wilson, the kid out of BYU.  Killer accuracy and can evade as good as, if not better, than Lawerence.

That's the life of a 49ers quarterback.  Even Steve Young used to complain that the fans never appreciated him and he was always living in the shadow of the legend that is Joe Montana.  Interesting that as a whole we're still so picky and critical of our QBs, escpiacially after the revolving door that was the mid-2000s with Tim Rattay, Ken Dorsey, Cody Pickett, Shaun Hill, J. T. O'Sullivan.  Oh, those were painful days.  Painful.

You're probably right about Spicoli, all the hype seems to good to be true.  But, it would suck if we skipped over him and he turns out to be another Mahomes.

Well, that was another exciting game! Could have gone either way for quite a length of it. Even though Marriota didn't turn things around to a W, they were damn close, and I don't think the Raiders are going to forget about that going forward, and next year. Quite a morale buster for Raiders fans who were still clinging to Super Bowl hopes. Maybe next year.

That was a good game, it's good to see Mariota playing again.  One of my daughters went to UofO, so I've been rooting for him ever since.  I was surprised to see him, actually.  I hadn't heard that he joined the Raiders, made me wonder why the Niners didn't pursue him since Garoppolo is hurt.

I didn't place a bet until the Chargers went up 17 to 10 in the second, but then I jumped on the Raiders' bandwagon.  I wasn't going to do it, but when I heard Mariota was under center it seemed like a no-brainer.  Luckily I cashed-out after the Raiders' overtime fieldgoal.  I just didn't trust the Raiders D.

Anyone thoughts on the games today?  Was thinking of taking a prop bet for Allen under 2 pass tds.  In the last 5 games Broncos only allowed 2 passing tds...might take a stab on Buffalo too.  Thinking 23-13 buffalo.

Haven't gone through the props yet, but obviously Green Bay and Buffalo for ML.  Denver's defense has been playing a little bit better the last few weeks, but their offense can't compete with Buffalo.  Josh Allen is listed on the Injury Report, but he's going to start.  If he stays healthy throughout the game, I'd say Bills by a touchdown is a reasonable bet.

Green Bay could struggle running the ball, but when has that hurt Green Bay?  Sportsbet.io isn't giving the Packers anything less than a spread of -7.5, which is the most worthless spread in football.  I'll take the Pack at -8.5.  It's the Panthers for fuck's sake.

Fucking fantastic ending to a great game.  Wow, I don't even care that I lost my bet, it was fun to watch that mayhem that Lamar Jackson inflicts when he's on it.

Just watching the games and suffering in Patriots Hell...
Welcome to world of the 49ers' fans.  Cry
HAH! Funny considering the scuttlebutt of Garoppolo coming back to Foxboro for 2021. Grin
I really don't know if I want to see him back here or not but I'll take anyone over Newton!

Lol, yeah it's time, I think.   Lips sealed
Garoppolo isn't a bad QB, he's actually got a pretty damn good win/start record, but he's fragile.  He would be great behind a solid line, which the 9ers haven't been able to maintain.  And he gets rattled when the dice are down...  But other than that, he's great.  You'll love him.

I want the Niners to trade up and get that kid out of Clemson, Jeff Spicoli Trevor Lawrence.
