1741  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum [Guide] on: December 20, 2021, 06:15:39 AM
Just thought I'd provide an update here on the status of the original post;

Based on the contents of a previous post on the subject of multiple signature files, I submitted an issue on Electrum's git:
https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/7579

I didn't realize it would be so complicated, but it's obvious the dev team is putting the effort into implementing an aggregated signature file.  It appears that ThomasV has found a solution, so it may be implemented by the next release.  I'll determine then if the OP needs any updates.

Now I'm beating myself up for not starting the NO D/ST against the Bucs, lol.

If I'm not mistaken last time Bucs were shut out was in 2012 (also a December game against Saints), and last shutout for Brady was in 2006 (?).

My take away from that is that I should have known it was statistically unlikely for that to continue, and the streak(s) would end tonight.  Thanks, I was just about to ease up on myself.

Pretty strange weekend so far with Cards and the Bucs sucking lemons.  Dallas is sitting as the number 2 seed at the moment...  Could you imagine that?  The NFC Least could take the top seed if the 'Girls keep winning and the Packers drop one.

The consolation ladder games are not really interesting...since we didn't set on what the punishment for the last place will be.  Grin

Pay for the first round of beers, obviously!

~

The Patriots did stink it up yesterday, but it wasn't the mistakes made by the rookie QB that surprised me.  I expected the Pats defense to contain the Colts offense much better.

Now I'm beating myself up for not starting the NO D/ST against the Bucs, lol.

There was a time when I suspected that TYM was farming accounts for these types of "trusted" scams.  He seems like a sneaky bird that way.  I don't believe that TYM and ASU are the same person, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn I'm wrong about that.

As for any connection with the others, it's all speculation.  If the two loan scammers are still around they've covered their tracks well enough that I haven't been able to find a link.

The Chargers are looking good, except for those last two passes.  I get going for the TD on 4th down, but run the exact same play?  Anyway, it's good to see the Chargers being competitive, maybe they'll be able to fill the stadium soon.

I tried my best and I thought that Nutildah Jones left the game and would not change his line up hehe. However, I was shocked to see he was still alive and playing. He won by 43 points against the Psychotics. I am out?

There's still a small chance that Taco can win your match.  If that happens he gets the fourth playoff spot with a record of 8 and 6.  If you beat Taco and Nutildah wins, then all three of you contenders will finish 7 and 7 which means it'll come down to tie-breakers, and I think Nutildah has that by a longshot.

@everyone. Who is your regular season MVP and your rookie of the year?

I don't get sentimental.  If we rank players by who scored the most points for the team, that would have to be Josh Allen.  The numbers suggest he should get the award.

Lamar is out and my whole week looks gives a new meaning to "fantasy football", as in "a win for my team is just a fantasy".

Except Deebo. But I doubt even he can haul in 50 points for me Grin

No big surprises though. Bucs are beating Bills, but did anyone expect differently? KC crushed Raiders, likewise not shocking.

Debo ended up having a quite (for him) afternoon. What a nail-biter win for the 9ers, though.  I called at the end of the third quarter that they were going to blow that lead.  I have texts to a buddy to prove it.  Tongue

Shanahan is a great play caller, but he sux at clock management.  He starts thinking about it way too late in the game.  Nice TD by Aiyuk to end it.

It appears the Bills made a show of it and forced OT.
1749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Help with testnet node on: December 12, 2021, 07:19:21 PM
I'm trying to set up a test-net node that closely resembles my main-net node, but I'm having trouble getting it started with systemctl.  I assume my configuration files are the root cause.  Journalctl isn't giving me much information: bitcoind.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.  The service is supposed to be run by service user "bitcoin," and I made sure the configuration and data directoreis, and the files within are owned by that user.

My bitcoind.service file:

Code:
[Unit]
Description=Bitcoin Testnet
After=network.target

[Service]
ExecStart=/usr/bin/bitcoind -testnet \
                            -pid=/run/bitcoind/bitcoind.pid \
                            -conf=/etc/bitcoin/bitcoin.conf \
                            -datadir=/var/lib/bitcoind

# Make sure the config directory is readable by the service user

# Process management

# Directory creation and permissions

# /run/bitcoind

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

My bitcoin.config file:

Code:
coin=testnet
testnet=1
txindex=1
dbcache=1024
listen=1
onion=127.0.0.1:9050
discover=1
proxyrandomize=1
server=1
rpcbind=127.0.0.1
rpcport=18332
rpcauth=<rpcuser>:<rpcpassword>
addresstype=bech32
changetype=bech32

# Options only for mainnet
[main]

# Options only for testnet
[test]
rpcport=18332

# Options only for regtest
[regtest]

EDIT:

I figured it out by trying to run bitcoind from the command line using the same settings as systemctl's bitcoind.service file:
Code:
sudo -H -u bitcoin bash -c 'bitcoind -testnet -pid=/run/bitcoind/bitcoind.pid -conf=/etc/bitcoin/bitcoin.conf -datadir=/var/lib/bitcoind'

And that resulted in this error:
Error: Config setting for -rpcbind only applied on test network when in [test] section.

I fixed it by adding rpcbind=127.0.0.1 to the [test] section.
1750  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to select BitCoin address for receiving money? on: December 12, 2021, 02:13:26 PM
As others have already mentioned, "receiving" (green) addresses and "Change" (yellow) addresses function the same from an external point of view.  If you are receiving bitcoin from a sender, you'll receive it regardless of which type of address you supply to that individual.  The only difference is how the internal function of the wallet selects the addresses.

Since Electrum wants to reserve change addresses for change, it's best not to request payments to those addresses.  The use of empty addresses can help you keep track of your income and spending as well.  If, for example you receive regular payments from one individual, you may want those payments (and only those payments) going to a specific address so you can keep good records of those payments.

The way you use receiving and change addresses can have privacy implications: If you want to maintain privacy it's best that you don't mix coins from separate receiving and change addresses.  Using the "coins" tab you can select specific transactions to combine to avoid cross-linking unspent coins.

Testnet is a practical way of learning how Electrum behaves.  You may want to create a testnet wallet, and fund it from one of the many testnet faucets.  You can then create another testnet wallet and send the coins back and forth between the two.
1751  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ledger Card Honeypot on: December 10, 2021, 06:05:15 PM
~

Bit of snark but did you read the fees section? It's always been there $5.00 / month after 90 days of non use, it's what you agreed to when you signed up.
Agree the card sucks for other reasons, don't get me wrong. But they never hid that fact.

Most of them have that or worse:
https://support.unbanked.com/support/solutions/articles/44000411370-what-are-the-fees-to-use-the-card-

There are others but most are similar.
The main advantage of BitPay is that you can use it to get cash back so outside of the crap exchange fees you can use it for BTC -> Cash (at least in the US) so there is that.

-Dave

Snark away, my skin callouses have been through worse.  I'm sure I did read the fee structure before I set up my account, but I figure I would be using the cash before that came up so it must have slipped my memory.  But then the struggle of where to use it keeps coming up.

A good credit card that's accepted everywhere, 1-5% cash back, grace period, etc, works great for fiat purchases. Then I can pay the monthly bill by selling some corn if I'm so inclined. Much easier for tax returns too, ~12 transactions instead of hundreds.

Excellent points, which are why I wasn't really heart-broken about the bitpay card not meeting my expectations.

1753  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ledger Card Honeypot on: December 09, 2021, 03:42:19 PM
I've had a competitor's card for nearly two years now, and it's really soured my opinion of crypto-backed credit/debit cards.  If it gets implemented properly it could really be a convenient option, but the company I've used (BitPay) is absolute shit.  They charge you for the card, they charge two Tx fees to fund the card, the card is practically useless at 99% of the places I want to use it, and then I recently learned they charge a fee for every month you don't use it.

Unfortunately I don't have any dirty money to launder, so I'm more concerned about usability, practicality, and affordability.  Normally I would be willing to sign up for these kinds of services, but I'm not going to sign up for this one.  I'll wait to see how the service operates and if they get good reviews from clients.  Not to mention, Ledger hasn't exactly been great at keeping their customer's private information secure, and this will obviously require more critical data than just buying a hardware wallet from their web store.
1754  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Freewallet.org - SCAMMERS CONFIRMED - Fraud group. on: December 09, 2021, 02:36:42 PM
Does anyone know how to report an app as a scam on google play?

https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/contact/takedown

You'd be wasting your time though. We're talking about Google, who allowed Bitconnect etc on Youtube and still allow all sorts of scammy shit on their platforms. They're not gonna do anything unless it threatens their revenue, so perhaps reporting to the FTC or some other alphabet (no pun intended) agency would be more efficient.

Thanks for the link.  I reckon you're right about it being a waste of time.  Google isn't going to put any time into validating the scam concerns.  Maybe if they were sued by someone who lost money to these shitbirds they would do something.  It would be difficult (or nearly impossible) to prove Google's culpability, and I'm sure their lawyers have already addressed all that in the play store TOS.  But it would be a way to draw attention to the lack of responsibility on their part, and maybe convince people to be more diligent when downloading financial apps.

Edit: buying fake reviews... very naughty. Sort by "newest" and scroll to the beginning of August 2021 for example:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=doge.org.freewallet.app&showAllReviews=true

Normally they get a couple of reviews per week, often negative, and then boom, streams of ~10 reviews per day, all 5 stars.

Lol, that's pretty blatant.
1755  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Freewallet.org - SCAMMERS CONFIRMED - Fraud group. on: December 08, 2021, 07:42:22 PM
How the fuck is this piece of shit app still allowed on the play/apple store, ffs? Huh

It's not just one, they have 24 wallets listed in the google play store.  I'm sure the point is to maximize their exposure in search results when people search for wallets for various crypto currencies.

Does anyone know how to report an app as a scam on google play?  I only found a way to report reviews, not a way to report the app as a scam.

1756  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 07, 2021, 07:18:35 PM
Does this mean that the playoff rounds last two weekends, collecting points over the whole span?  Do we get to change our lineup for the second weekend?

Wait, what? Now you confused me even  more. Two playoff games each round? I thought two weeks were allotted in case there were wildcard games, for larger leagues.

At any rate, I would suggest to leave the settings as is, it's fine.

Oh, that makes more sense.
1757  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 07, 2021, 07:07:43 PM
The other part of it is the playoff schedule, which I'm mildly confused about. It says "week 15-16" and "week 17-18". Do we play the finals in week 17? Some teams might be resting their top players by then. Might not apply to Colts though.
Yes that is the way the league is structured, however taking a look at my LM tools I can see I can change how long each round lasts, and the semifinals could take place on week 15 while the finals take place on week 16, leaving week 17 and 18 unused, if the members of the league want to change this then we need to vote as soon as possible about this as I do not know if I could change this once the playoffs are about to start.

Does this mean that the playoff rounds last two weekends, collecting points over the whole span?  Do we get to change our lineup for the second weekend?

I don't think changing the settings one week before the regular season ends is a good idea, plus 9ers won't be resting Deebo, they need every win they can get.  Grin

I guess I'm confused, but whatever it is I'm okay with leaving it alone.

I don't think I've ever seen a game with so many runs up the gut. Smiley

It's pretty common under the Friday night lights, but certainly not in the modern day NFL.

I was surprised to see that I clinched.  I hadn't mapped it out but, last week I thought I needed to win both of my last two games to get a spot.  Congrats to you and wheelz, and best of luck to the Muks,  Dogs, and Taco.

You're 2 wins ahead of 5th place so with one match remaining there is no way for you to drop out of top 4. Needing to win the last two might have been true if Dogs didn't lose.

However... Jonathan Taylor is on a bye this week. You have a chance to win this match. But do you want to? Map that one out Grin

Are you suggesting I throw the match?  Why, the Gambinos aren't holding my parakeet hostage.  Huh

Oh, I think I see what you're getting at.  If I lose and Taco wins, I'll have to play you in the first round.  If I beat Wheelz this week I'll have to play him again in the first round.  Hmmm, tough call.  Damned if do damned if I don't.  Not that it matters, I never dreamed of winning this league anyway.  Besides, any time you and I match up you seem to have the luck of the gods on your side.
1759  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 07, 2021, 04:45:03 PM
So what do we have here...
Three teams fighting for one playoff spot.

I was surprised to see that I clinched.  I hadn't mapped it out but, last week I thought I needed to win both of my last two games to get a spot.  Congrats to you and wheelz, and best of luck to the Muks,  Dogs, and Taco.

Despite the low score it was actually a fun game to watch.  The talent of the individual players really didn't play much into the result, it was all about strategy.

We are trying to assist.

I don't believe you.  If you cared about your customers you wouldn't have let thing get this far in the first place.

The solution to all your scam accusations is simple; pick one of the following options:
1. Require KYC right away.  Don't let your customers even create an account without it.
2. Don't require KYC at all, ever.  Not even when your customers deposit tens of thousands of dollars worth of crypto.

Of course, if you were to be so transparent and honest you wouldn't have the opportunity to use KYC/ALM as a bludgeon to steal from your customers.

You must know that many of your clients only use your service because they're under the impression that KYC is not required.  Many of these clients live in countries where crypto is illegal, and if they were to provide their KYC dox they are risking incriminating themselves.  I would guess that in some cases these individuals are entrusting their entire life savings in your care.  These are the people you are victimizing.  You and your kind are the most vile of villains.

So, you can claim that you're "trying to assist" all you like, you're not fooling anyone.
