1902  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam report: [banned mixer] on: August 30, 2021, 03:12:28 PM
Clearly a SCAM.

Who in their right mind would send their Bitcoins to some wallet address and get a "letter of guarantee" in return?

This is a common way that mixing services prove that they own the address to which you're about send some coins.  Obviously it's not a guarantee that the service won't scam you, it still requires you to trust that the service will return your money.  It does guarantee that the service is in control of the address, however.

I've never used [banned mixer], so I don't know if they are a scam or not, but your comments make it sound like you've never used them either.  Have you used the service, and were you scammed?  Or were you scammed by imposters, like Jawhead999 suggested?

I've seen fake USB-sticks with a smaller size than advertised. I've never seen it with SSD, but still: any chance you bought the SSD at a very shady supplier?

No, it's a real deal WD Red 1TB SSD, purchased from the WD Amazon store.  That system has been running with a full node and ElectrumX for well over a year now.

Other than that, I would manually fdisk the disk: wipe it, create a normal Linux partition, format as ext4, then check the size.

That's the goal.  I should be able to set it properly during the server install, but if that still gives me trouble I'll start up the system with a live-boot (Desktop) usb and obliterate all the partitions.
1904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: error *** Disk space is too low! on: August 30, 2021, 01:52:08 PM
What do you see when you look at parted/gparted? Does it show the partition as taking up the full drive size or is there a bunch of "unallocated" disk space? Huh

Yes, parted showed that the partition was only 198GB.  I thought I had used parted to fix that issue in the past, but I couldn't remember how I did it, nor could I find the instructions last night.

When you originally created the partition... did you clone it from another drive or manually create it? Huh

No, it wasn't a clone.  I performed a fresh install on a used HD, but I didn't do anything with partitions.  I just selected the check box to "Use an entire disk," and left everything else on defaults.

My first question would be: Why use LVM? (I've never used it).[/url])

I didn't have a LVM partition initially, it was Linux filetype at first.  I was having the same problem with disk space with the original file type also.  I converted the partition type to LVM because I suspected it was an issue with the partition, and thought that would help me.  IIRC the last time this happened to me I already had a LVM partition (probably because I wanted that one encrypted,) and was able to adjust the partition size without screwing things up.  I was up later than I should have been goofing around with it last night and finally gave up.

First of all, you need to find out how LVM configure your hard drive partition. You could use tools such as system-config-lvm (also called LVM GUI) to find out.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think it might be too late for that now.  I didn't have too much time invested in the system, so I decided to start over.  This morning I booted up from the sever installation usb, and played around with the partition settings.  I don't know if it's something to do with Dell systems, but this is the second time this type of thing has happened to me.  Once it was with a brand new SSD, also on a Dell system.  For some reason the server install wants to set the partition size to 200GB.  It seems like selecting the check box to use the entire disk doesn't actually partition the entire disk (barring what's needed for the boot sector, of course.)  I found the setting in the partition options while goofing around with it this morning, so I think I'll get it figured out.

Thanks for all the help.

ETA: I am using UEFI, but I don't know if that has any thing to do with it.
1905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: error *** Disk space is too low! on: August 30, 2021, 04:23:22 AM
df -h would return the output with the free space, could you try that? Are you pointing Core to the correct directory? Can you navigate to your data directory and run ls -l? It should show the permissions for the file and whether you can write to it.

Thanks for the help, I think that found it:

Code:
/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-ubuntu--lv        196G  186G  5.3M 100% /

It's a 1.5TB hard drive.  Now that I see this I think I've ran into this before, where Ubuntu wants to believe the hard drive is only 200 Gigs.  For the life of me I can't remember how to fix it.

This is maybe more help with Ubuntu than bitcoin core.  I know I have plenty of room on the hard drive, but I'm getting an error in the debug log file claiming the disk space is too low.

This from fdisk:

Code:
         Device: /dev/sda3
          Start: 3147776
            End: 2930274303

           UUID: 14389213-92EC-4E00-AAB3-34706F9E0FF6

I originally had the partition set to Linux filetype and it showed the same disk size, but I had been the same error.    I thought maybe converting it would help.

Jags ml + 49ers ml is my ticket for today,

Good job.

Yeah, that was pretty funny but I can't believe the idiot went in head first on a pre season game!

Pure Stupidity there. I hope he doesn't think that will impress the coaches.

Yeah, that was scary.  I guess he really wanted that meaningless TD.  Shocked

Mostert has been on my watch list.

Almost every 49er's coach in history has loved to rotate running backs and full backs situationally.  As a result it makes even our best running back a relatively poor choice for FF, in my opinion.  Mostert is likely to get the lion's share of snaps, but I predict we'll see a lot of Trey Sermon also.

There is no rival for Quartararo to win.
~

He's definitely running away with the points; 65 points ahead of the field, and what a dominant performance today.

Tragic finish DNF for Marquez, and a disappointing finish for Rossi.  Rossi had been up to 6th spot, and a podium looked possible for a few seconds there.

Marques looked like he lost traction with the front, but was it due to Jorge Martin nudging him?  When I watched it again it looked like Martin was pretty close, and Marques didn't look like he was leaning that hard.  The announcers said went wide, but it looked to me that was the line he was riding.  They were just so close to each other.  I'm glad no one was hurt, but it was funny to see Marques hold onto the bike.  It looked like he wanted to buck back on.

Justin Fields might be another draftee that we could witness become a starter by week 4, I reckon. Unless Andy Dalton performs very good and saves himself. There is also Zach Wilson who might also surprise everyone hehe. There is not much news updates on him.

Zach Wilson was my favorite of the QB draftees, he looks like Josh Allen.  I think it would be best if all the QBs drafted this year sit out the whole season.  They're all very talented, but there's more upside to letting them sit out, and more risk to starting them right away.  Obviously the Jags aren't going to take my advice, and Robert Salah doesn't have another viable option other than Wilson (and zero depth.)  As for the other teams, barring any injuries I wouldn't be surprised to see Dalton and Garoppolo start all year.  And Cam too, for that matter.

J.K. Dobbins is likely out for the season:

Quote
J.K. Dobbins currently is undergoing his MRI, but the expectation going in was that he had suffered a season-ending knee injury, per sources.

I had this dude in 90% of my mock drafts, you hate to see when a promising young RB goes down with a serious knee injury, especially in a preseason game. Ravens now have the record for most consecutive preseason wins in a row at 20, but at what cost? Lips sealed

Roll Eyes That sucks!  I had pretty high on my list, but I didn't expect him to be available once I draft.

As for RB's Raheem Mostert looked quite impressive in the 9er opening drive.

Speaking of the niners, lol on that opening drive.  Shanahan loves clowning around, he kept inserting Lance just to hand the ball off to Mostert, then runs Garoppolo for a TD.  Of course the Raiders' D was looking for Lance to run, and not expecting Jimmy to try.

I'm not holding my breath that kind of shit is going to work in the regular season.  The Raiders kept 30 of their top guys out of pads for this game, Gruden is playing his second and third team guys.

It must be said that the red card literally change the game, Chelsea were the better side before the red card and are forced to sit back in the 2nd half, It could have been a whole lot different even if the penalty was awarded and James didn't get sent off, but rules are rules, I suppose.

They looked just a tad better yes, but the glancing header was something special and Liverpool actually had more shots and chances, just a bit poor at the end. If Elliot were just a shade better at finishing and more courageous (had at least a couple of chances but opted to pass), maybe. But yeah, surprised Chelsea just sat back but they were probably happier with the draw than we were. Impossible to crack when we're not at our creative best.

No surprise quite a few people got exact scores;) Boo.

I had LFC to win, so I got a goose egg.  Boo!

Chelsea did look like the better side, even with only ten men.  They couldn't help but give LFC all those chances, but they did a good job keeping them away form the goal for the most part.  Ironically LFC's best chances were during that fiasco that got James red-carded, while Chelsea still had 11 men.
1911  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin from Electrum Wallet to Kraken lost on: August 28, 2021, 06:23:59 PM
A small alert would suffice, although I think it would be better if the wallet had an option for beginners and another for professionals as new people joining this technology have zero computer knowledge so everything seems complicated.
Even if they have computer knowledge and have worked with other software, they could be confused with the difference between "broadcast" and "save". Electrum gives you options to broadcast or save your transactions. If you are doing some work in Word or Photoshop, you save your work and you close the program. If you construct a transaction in Electrum and you save > exit the app, you haven't sent/broadcasted it. But like I mentioned before, the amount disappears from your total wallet balance and you are given a hash. But like ranochigo said, it's their responsibility to familiarize themselves with both Bitcoin and Electrum.

I like the option to save local transactions, but Electrum could arrange the buttons in more descriptive way.  The Save and the Broadcast buttons are spaced far apart on the Advanced tab, I could see that leading to confusion.  If the buttons were closer one would see the the Broadcast button go from gray to live once the Save button was selected.

Another Button could be added to "Save and Broadcast," that would at least save a click and help prevent repetitive stress injuries.  Tongue

What is happening to Arsenal is a shameful and unfortunate thing, the club is at rock bottom at all levels, and the differences are widening and increasing and multiplying with its competitors, which makes it far from even being among the adults.
Tough and crowded schedule, disastrous individual fouls, even late and incomplete reinforcements, but also poor choices from Arteta and Jim Blanc in most of the big games of late.
The sack of Arteta is looming on the horizon, but will it solve the problems, I do not think or expect, unfortunately.
Fans have lost their confidence in the team 30 minutes in the game  and they started to leave the stadium.
Arerta should have never got the job he has no experience and Arsenal are paying the price. How are they going to improve the team now? They have bought players for very expensive amounts which are not up to the quality of what is needed to challenge for the league. I think they might struggle to get in the top 10.

I was a defender of Arteta until today. A game like this cannot happen for a club like Arsenal ...they had 0 shots on the goal , absolute 0 ideas of how to play football and the players don't have any relationship between them when they have and when they don't have the ball. It's a shame what happen today but do we think is just Arteta ? look at the squad ...they will fight for relations spot with this squad.

I liked Arteta at first, and continued to until last season.  Last year they started out slow, then had a good run in the autumn, but by winter it was obvious they couldn't hold onto their position in the table.  After slowly dropping down the table year after year, and failing to qualify for the European competitions I think it's obvious that Arteta needs to be replaced.  Arsenal has too proud of a history to continue this way.  If we stick with Arteta and the current squad I'm afraid a "successful season" will be avoiding relegation.

I agree that it's not just Arteta, we need upgrades in nearly every position.  It all starts with the manager, however.

lol at what happened in front of Chelsea goal, chaos but after a reply, ouep it is definitely a penalty, red card for James. The game might change dramatically in the second half especially after Liverpool getting the draw with Salah penalty.
Liverpool 1 - 1 Chelsea with 11 vs 10 players..

Is that a deserving red card  Huh I don’t think so. It's 1:1, bad luck for Chelsea. I just have won one of my bets but seems I won't win the other one as Chelsea is going to have played with 10 players.
Yes it is a correct red card seeing his hand position and the fact that he is the last player and prevented an imminent goal.

That was chaotic.  So many chances for LFC, it was funny as hell.  I didn't know about that rule of hand ball being a red card.  Seems kind of harsh since it didn't look deliberate to me.  I guess James' location and his arm position is what dictates the penalty is an automatic red card, but none the less a little harsh.

I have betbuilder bet with LFC to win and both teams to score.  I guess now that Chelsea is down a man I might win, lol.

Pol positions are set for the British Grand Prix. Quartararo is still on the first row, and Rossi is in the middle of the third row.  Marquez has had a lot of success at Silverstone in the past, this may be the race he makes his come-back official.  Obviously he won't have time to make a go at the championship with so few races left, and some may be cancelled still.

Over all, I like Quartararo for the race, and Miller to make the podium also.

So Ronaldo in United and nobody is talking about it here? I expected to find at least one full page of posts when I logged in.

What are you guys thinking? Obviously he is a class player and should help United raise their game even higher. What position will he play? I sort of think maybe he would be best as striker this time around. A little bit less of running and more chances for scoring goals, and weakest United position at the moment. I just hope he will not take all direct free kicks from Fernandez since his record in last couple years is far from the best Smiley

Never saw this move coming. It was all City in the news and then bam - United done deal.

A lot of talking in your thread Premier League prediction about Cristiano.Still he can't do much now at almost 37 years old despite his perfect physical form, age is a determining factor in football. For United though he is a great addition but I don't think he will be a determining factor in United fight for title but let's see.

I also put in my predictions but I am pretty sure I will suck up big time this week as I predicted as many in the community have done,I doubt we will see such result.I think I will not be first after this week games but my objective is to be in the top ten in the end of the season so I am hopeful for that.
for the case of Ronaldo age is going to be just a number look at Ibrahimovic last season with Milan he scored so many goals despite his age closing on 40yo and he did have a serious injury in the late of his career while Ronaldo little bit younger and have no history of serious injuries like Ibrahimovic and he is a more goalscorer machine with a team that have many creative players like Fernandes Sancho Pogba and others.
The only  position that United needs to upgrade is a defensive midfielder so I guess we will see Ronaldo have somewhere between 25-30 goals involvment atleast in the EPL.

I agree, Ronaldo takes his health and fitness very seriously, and 36 is not that old.  He scored quite a few goals last season in Seire A last season, there's no reason to believe he's done.

I imagine lots of United fans are happy to have him back.

Now they have to face the Seahawks and the Packers along with the Saints.
Its very possible the saints are going to suck this year.

Maybe.  Sean Payton was successful with Teddy Bridgewater, and he seems to have faith in Taysom Hill even if Jameis Winston doesn't pan out.  They're definitely not the same team without Brees.

BTW this happened with the 49ers when Young replaced Montana and the fans were not happy at all about this until Young could bring win a SB, and even then during that season Montana and Young faced each other and a great deal of 49ers fans were cheering for Montana over Young and the 49ers.

Lol, it's still a contentious issue 30 years later, many are still salty about the subject.  One of my coworkers, who's a die-hard 9ers fan wore his KC 16 Jersey to work the week before super bowl 54.

And @chi cowboys always suck this year won't be any different.  Redskins have a tough schedule ahead of them but their d is tight.  Giants still gonna win it.

If I were to bet on the NFC East, I would pick the Giants.  But I always pick the Giants to win the conference (because I hate the cowboys,) and of course I'm often wrong.  WFT kinda shot themselves in the foot by winning the conference last year.  By doing so they added two tough games to their schedule.  Now they have to face the Seahawks and the Packers along with the Saints.

The Cowboys have Dak back, and Dak is far better than anything ya'll got over in New York.  The cowboys have some solid wide receivers, running backs etc.  Defense may be a bit suspect, but still.

Lol, a bit suspect?  Dak is actually a good QB, I'll give him that, but he won't line up as a linebacker, lol.  Dallas often has a great offense, at least they're productive in yards and points.  The only trouble is they're always playing catch-up.  I still think the Giants take the East, but I'm not willing to bet on that.  Tongue

I think WFT has a better chance than Dallas, honestly.

They aren't going to trade anything for a 1 year Jimmy rental though, San Fran will want to much.  And any multi-year deal kind of kills the whole point of drafting Mac 1st by burying him as the 3rd qb.  There's teams that will want Jimmy, Denver might be a good landing spot.  Or Carolina if Sam Darnold starts out terrible.

You never know.  Garoppolo would fit the Pats offense a lot better than Newton, and if Belichick want's Mac on the bench for a couple of years I could see him trying to make the deal.  I agree that the 9ers will want a hefty sum to recoup some of the draft stock they gave up to get Trey, so that might be the deciding factor.

Nice!  Thank you for the free bet.  I haven't been affected by the outages, so I wasn't holding my breath to get one, but I did.  I really wanted to bet on Arsenal to win, but I also don't want to lose the opportunity to win the bet.  I hope that my reluctance to bet on Arsenal will jinx them into actually winning this week.  I know it's a longshot, but how cool would it be for the Gunners to top City?  I'm looking forward to the match, Go Gunners!

Anyway, I went for the safe bet.  LFC over Chelsea, both teams to score, and over 5 corners.

1919  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor wallet set up confusion on: August 27, 2021, 04:53:16 PM
Can you explain what you mean by "connecting your Trezor to Electrum"?

Do you mean when sending to and from Electrum? Do you mean viewing your coins in some way?

You can use Electrum to access you Trezor wallet's and accounts, but only the Bitcoin accounts.  There are Electrum forks for other coins, but I don't want to confuse the issue.  To access your Trezor with Electrum you'll need to have your Trezor connected to the PC you're using, and create a new wallet in Electrum.  It'll ask you what kind of wallet you want to create (choose "Standard,") then it'll ask if you want to create a new seed (choose "Use a hardware wallet.")

This will allow you to use Electrum to view and control the bitcoin accounts in your Trezor.

I have my coins on Electrum at the moment and am happy, but wanted to get a cold wallet for added security*

I assume you currently have a desktop Electrum wallet, that wallet will not be affected.  Using a Trezor with Electrum is still more secure than a standard desktop wallet, since you'll need to connect and unlock the Trezor to interact with the newly created wallet file.

[* To be honest, I have been astonished at the number of technical issues I see on their forum. I thought a cold wallet was all about just dumping your coins and forgetting about them for years? It looks like you need to check all is well every day, like a cat on hot bricks!]

A hardware wallet isn't a "cold wallet."  The point of a hardware wallet is to have a wallet on a device that is isolated from your PC and mostly immune to viruses and malware.  Hardware wallets are definitely more secure than a standard desktop wallet, but they are usually used for wallets that you want to interact with regularly.

Most people here will define a "cold wallet" as a wallet that was generated on an off-line PC that will not be interacted with regularly.  For example; I installed an OS on an old laptop, used it to generate a seed phrase, wrote down the seed phrase and put it in a safe place.  Then I formatted the hard drive on the laptop so no trace of the seed phrase is left on any electronic device.  That's my cold wallet, where the majority of my coins are kept.

I use hardware wallets to house moderate amounts of bitcoin that I want to spend from time to time.

"Download Trezor Suite from https://suite.trezor.io" I go to this page and it asks me to download the desktop app.

I would recommend you use Trezor Suite.  It's an easy to use app, has a lot of features, is compatible with multiple currencies, and it should connect to your Trezor One without the Trezor Bridge.

I've had trouble connecting my Trezor to Electrum in the past, and was able to solve the issue by installing the Trezor Bridge.  To download the Trezor Bridge you'll need to access the page by using Chrome, Chromium, or the FireFox browser.  If you try to access the page with IE or Edge it'll tell you your browser is not compatible.

Here's the link to download the Trezor Bridge: https://suite.trezor.io/web/bridge/
