Just curiuos to know what is the benefit for the bitcoin mined few years back as compared to the ones recently mined?
The price of both of them will be the same.

Why would anyone want old minted BTC  Huh
It could be tax fraud or money laundering. Someone else will pay the price.

Tax avoidance would be my guess.
Here in the US, long term capital gains are capped at 20% short term are above 35% once you hit $210,000
It's also easier to hide other trades / gains. If you have 5BTC that has not moved in 5 years and the IRS looks at you, they may or may not dig deeper.
If you have 5BTC that you accumulated over the last year they are going to crawl through every thing you did to make sure your are paying everything on every trade.

-Dave

This would be my guess.  The OP claims the bitcoin he has is "freshly mind,"  and it would be easy enough to confirm if that's true or not.  There must be something motivating the OP to "pay a premium."  Obviously anyone looking to deal with the OP should take every precaution to make sure that the coins they're receiving weren't obtained through some criminal activity.

If United concedes more than one goal tonight I would sell their whole defense and buy a new better one for 10% of the cost Smiley

Lol, 80th minute and they're still clean.  Trouble is so are the Wolves.   Cheesy  (As I'm typing the Wolves score!)

I had Manchester 2-1 for today, which now looks silly to have expected 3 goals from this match.  I hadn't realized that McGuire was out, or I probably would have predicted a tie.

guess who's playing as a CB? Phil Jones  Lips sealed

I had no idea who he was, and had to go look him up.  Why has he been out of the line-up for so long?
1704  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: January 03, 2022, 06:49:12 PM
Anyways, i'm messing around with the NFL Playoff Machine, and we could get some really juicy wild-card matchups to kick off the playoffs. If nothing out of the ordinary happens in Week 18, (AFC) Patriots at Buffalo and (NFC) Cardinals at Dallas. Titans and Green Bay are almost certain to earn first-round byes, especially significant for TEN with Derrick Henry on the verge of returning, i've read he's been training in full with no setbacks. Also, next week's game between the Chargers and the Raiders will be a direct match for an AFC wildcard spot.

Funny that the NFL site doesn't specify that the Packers got the first seed, I don't see how they could not get the it.  I was under the impression that they clinched it last night with the win over the Vikings.  According google, the Packers have clinched the conference.   Even if they lose next weekend, and both the Bucs and the Rams win, the Packers still win the three-way tie due to a better record against common opponents.  If only one of the others, ie Bucs or Rams win, the Packers get it based on head to head match-ups, which the Packers won against both of those teams.

I have personally begun having these dizzy spells and anxiety. I suspected something was wrong with my heart. I went to the doctor and I was told my heart is healthy. I will be going to another doctor to check if I have vertigo. If nothing is wrong, I might go to a psychiatrist hehehehe.

Glad to hear your heart is okay.  I hope it's nothing serious; it could be nothing more than an ear infection which is common this time of year.  Have the doctor check your ears, and take it easy on salty foods.

According to the reports I have been hearing the coaches wanted AB on the field, it was AB the one that did not wanted to be there as according to himself he was not healthy enough to be there, so he was fired on the spot during the game and that is when we saw his meltdown.

That's an interesting interpretation.  I would have guessed the exact opposite was happening, but a lot things about that whole episode were unprecedented.  The NFL likes to keep the drama shrouded in mystery, but I imagine we'll get the whole story in due time.

That seems like a lot of hits, but was your server running the whole year without a restart?

Anyway, I don't think electrumx_rpc getinfo is the best way to see what load your server is under currently.  That list will just catalogue the pings and requests, but doesn't really tell you if your server is working hard at the moment.  To actually see what processes are currently running and how much of your resources they're using run the command htop.

Just to put things into perspective, I just restarted my server, then connected to it from one my wallets that received a transaction and got this:

I watched just first 30 minutes of Chelsea - Liverpool since I went to play football later on. It was one of the worst defensive displays I have seen in a long time. Before Mane scored first goal there were already 2 big mistakes that should have ended with goals. I heard that Kovačić scored a real beauty, will have to find that one somewhere to take a look at it. Our media is prone to overstatements regarding our players, both when something good or bad happens.

That mistake by Alexander-Arnold was quite a scare, I was sure that was going to be a goal for Pulisic.  Excellent save by Kelleher but overall I agree, defense was abysmal today.  They seemed to look better coming out in the second half and I was sure I was going to nail my prediction.  I was even lulled into placing a ML bet on the Reds to take it.   Undecided

For his own sake he should retire
Yeah I think that's exactly what he did there.

I think you're right.  That seemed like a blatant "I'm getting too old for this shit" type attitude he displayed.

Luckily for Bucs everyone is talking about AB and not about how they almost lost to Jets.

Lol, almost.  Did you see Brady on that final drive?  He had no intention of losing that game, and seemed pretty damn confident he wasn't going to.  That was just funny to watch.  Poor Jets, that was a good effort, and I wanted Robert Salah to get that win.

Week 17 is finally upon us and what am I doing? Starting Trey Lance of course Roll Eyes, I am taking a huge risk here as there is no guarantee he will perform well with just one career start under his belt, but the Mars Elon Muks have such an advantage over me on the QB position with Brady playing against the Jets that I have no choice, Brady has the potential to score 40 points on that poor Jets defense and I need to reduce the margin a little bit, otherwise this match will be over before it even starts.
You'll be fine, Brady is throwing INTs almost as well as Stafford.

They're both trying to keep up with Josh Allen.  Undecided

I hate high spreads *normally* but in this one I can't see belicheck winning by less than 20.  He is gonna turn the screws on jax.

Yeah, but you can only turn screws so much without the right screw-driver.

@wheelz1200. It might be more risky to bet on the Patriots to beat the spread of -16.5? If everyone in here predicts that they might beat it then would it not be safer for Mac Jones passing yards to be over 221.5 yards? I think he might have 230 yards for this game at least.

I know you're asking wheelz, but I have opinions too, and I have to let them out.  Cheesy

On paper, the Pats are definitely the better team, and it's not a question of whether they'll win, but rather by how much.  Like Hueristic said, the spreads on this game look like a trap.  As for Mac Jones throwing for over 222 yards, that would be a pretty respectable outing for a veteran in a normal game, but even against the Jags that seems a bit ambitious for Mac Jones.  Not that he can't do it, but what suggests that he'll need to throw for that many yards today?  The Pats could cover the spread with only their running game.

he claimed he spent half a million on his wedding. If he's being serious and that's in his native currency isn't that nearly 10k USD? That would probably be a very elaborate wedding by Philippine standards.
According to the first site I found, over $8k is average in the Philippines.

The audience that site appears to target is Americans thinking about traveling to the Philippines for their wedding.  That figure includes costs for airfare and lodging (apparently only for one person, though,) which are costs the locals will not incur.

It still seems outlandish for weddings to cost so much.  The average income in the Philippines is under $4k USD per year.  I know there're cultural differences, but it seems like in the Philippines it's an industry rife with vultures.

Would that be the case if the grandson had two or three times the average annual income worth of bitcoin in his possession?

Also, I think there could be arguments against the officiating in the Manchester City vs Arsenal game earlier in the day. Though, I probably agreed with most decisions at the time.

That challenge by Ederson against Odegaard in the 10th minute was a foul, in my opinion.  Ederson was playing the ball, but contacted Odegaard's foot before he made contact with the ball.  That should have been a penalty kick for Arsenal.  Then there was the non-goal in 59th minute that was barely saved by Ake.  It would have been a self-goal (a tie would have gone to the attacker?) so I can live with that decision.  But then the red-card for incidental contact by Gabriel?  WTF?
[/biased statements]

A very bold prediction from LTU there  Grin.

Lol, fat finger fumble?

~

They're doing well but I don't think well enough to beat City. Got the exact score right on that one but it's probably the only points I'll be getting from today.

Yeah, I agree that as a whole they aren't as good of a team as City.  They are getting better every week, which is nice to see.  They did keep this game tight, and took the first goal, which again is a good sign that they are improving.  I still think they'll finish in the top 5, and hopefully in the top 4.  It's also good to see them in the EFL Cup Simi-Finals.

The Sunday games look hard to pick for me. I've got all draws in but I might have to change some. Maybe Leeds and Liverpool can get wins. I'll wait for the line-ups as that will be a big factor, especially for Leeds.

I've had a tough year with the predictions, then I got distracted the last couple of weeks and forgot to put in my numbers.  The season is a bust for me, but I just put in my predictions for the remainder of the week.  That Chelsea/LFC game is going to be a fun one to watch, but it's a tossup how that will turn out.

Damnit, I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this thread before watching the Arsenal/City match.  Oh well, I really had high hopes for Arsenal for their home game against City.  This could have been the match where Arsenal established themselves as a legitimate Top-Four team for the season, and would have been a great way to start the new year.

Nice of you to chip in. So Jerry PMed you as well. I guess there are very few people who weren't contacted by him with the same questions.
If you PMed him with the same exact instructions, he is now going to ask you about each step and ask if that is the best way to do it and if everyone else does it that way as well. I can't figure out why he needs instructions in a thread that has provided those instructions by myself and other users who have chipped in and explained various ways to do it.

Yeah, I hope he'll be satisfied with the answer...  And I hope he remembers it months from now when Ledger issues another update.  Cheesy

That OpenSSL signature has been bugging me for a while now, it was like an itch I needed to scratch.  I'm still not satisfied that I couldn't use PowerShell to verify it, but I've got more pressing matters today: There's a prime rib that needs to be BBQ'd.

Happy New Year, all.

@jerry0 contacted me via PM to help with this, sorry it took me so long to get to it.  I haven't used my Ledger wallets in over a year.  Therefore, I haven't had LedgerLive installed on my system, but I went ahead and downloaded the latest version and set about to verify it.

I found Ledger's instructions on how to verify the checksums here: https://www.ledger.com/ledger-live/lld-signatures

I downloaded the .pem file, the .sig file, and the .sha512sum file (saved with a .txt extension.)  The first thing I noticed is that the checksums file is signed with an OpenSSL key, not GPG.  Being a Windows user myself, this created a roadblock right away.  I don't have much experience with OpenSSL, let alone OpenSSL in Windows, so I didn't know how to verify the signature.  I installed the OpenSSL module that's available through PowerShell package manager, but it doesn't appear to provide a command to validate signatures.  I found a third-party package manager that claims to have a module called "OpenSSL.Light" which again claims to work similar to OpenSSL commands on Linux.  I didn't install it, because I don't want a third-party anything installed on my system.  So, I gave up and used WSL to validate the signature.

In WSL I browsed to the directory where I had saved all the files, and ran this command:

Code:
openssl dgst -sha256 -verify ledgerlive.pem -signature ledger-live-desktop-2.36.3.sha512sum.sig ledger-live-desktop-2.36.3.sha512sum.txt

Kind of a shitty thing to do to Windows users, in my opinion.  Why not just use GPG like almost all of the other software vendors in the cryptocurrency space?  I've been displeased with Ledger for a variety of reasons, and this ain't helping win me back.  Not to mention the lack of security: The OpenSSL certificate, the signature file, and the checksums file are all hosted on the same server.  What could go wrong?

Once that was done the rest of it went fairly smoothly.  Now that I've confirmed the checksum file was signed with the OpenSSL certificate provided by Ledger I can check the SHA512 hash of the executable file.  I was able to do so in PowerShell like I normally do.

I prefer to use CertUtil to check hash sums:

Code:
certutil -hashfile ledger-live-desktop-2.36.3-win-x64.exe sha512

The instructions on Ledger's web page suggest to use the Get-FileHash command, like this:

Code:
Get-FileHash ledger-live-desktop-2.36.3-win-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA512

But that's not great.  As you can see below, when using that command it truncates the results, only showing a portion of the hash.  As HCP suggested earlier in this thread you can add "| Format-Table -Wrap" to the end of the command, and the complete results will be displayed.  Here's the full command:

Code:
Get-FileHash ledger-live-desktop-2.36.3-win-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA512 | Format-Table -Wrap

@jerry0 was concerned because the result he got were all in capitol letters.  As you can see above, the hash sum is the same regardless of which utility you use, but Get-FileHash displays the results with all capitol letters, while CertUtil provides the results with all lower-case letters.  It doesn't appear that the hash sum is case-sensitive.

The Pats defense alone might score that much lol.

So, you're telling me I have a chance?  Cool

Yeah Bills are doing well but I'm watching Texans beating Chargers, the most overrated NFL team.
In my opinion the Patriots are the most overrated team in the NFL.

The Cardinals are getting my vote, for many of the same reasons you gave for your vote.  I still think the Cards have a pretty solid defense, but not championship-without-an-offense level good.  The Patriots defense, on the other hand, might actually be that good.

The Vegas odds makers seem to be snorting the Belichick koolaid in powdered form:

 Shocked  Shocked

I mean, who on earth thinks the Patriots are going to score 19 points, let alone out-score anyone by 19 points?  I predict they'll win this game, but they might do it by scoring nothing more than a safety.
