That was an extremally disappointing outing for United.  They tend to be the most popular club in my neck of the woods, so I have a couple of friends who are MU fans.  I feel bad for them, and hope the new management can turn things around.

The LFC/Tottenham match is turning out to be quite exciting.  I'm rooting for LFC, because I'm afraid for the Gunners when they face Tottenham next week.   Shocked

GPG keys can be created but with skipping the password step, by using the command line gpg --gen-key and following the on-screen instructions listed.

Correct, when using CLI commands you are prompted for a password, but you can leave it blank and press the enter key.

I believe that verifying the key does not require your own key  (and hence password) either - at least on command-line (I once verified a message from someone else's public key without my own key, but maybe I'm  misremembering. I do know that you have to set the key to be trusted while importing it though.

Partially correct: You won't be able to certify (sign) another persons key without your own, but you can indeed verify signed messages without your own key pair.  Technically you don't even need to download the public signing key.  The results will indicate that the message was signed by xyz key, but also mention that they key is unknown or unavailable.  As long as you're willing to confirm that key xyz is they key you expected to have signed the message you don't actually need any keys in your keyring.

I can't believe all the people who are calling this "a bit harsh."  If Twentyonepaylots' story is accurate (i.e. he merely applied for the campaign and never wore the signature) this is absolutely draconian.  I have been concerned about JollyGood's vindictive attitude before, and this is another example of why.

I understand JollyGoods' concern, and I'm convinced his heart is the right place; attempting to reduce spam and prevent scams.  However, it's my opinion that his methods are over the top, and it seems he's incapable of reversing his decisions once his mind has been made up.  It comes off as irrational and unreasonable, and only hurt the value of DT reviews.

When a similar situation occurred with the Yobit campaign, as a community we determined that tagging the participants was counterproductive.  Largely because we foresaw that situations like this would come up.  So far that concern has been realized with the 1xbit campaign; Meta and Reputation boards being filled with complaints about undeserved negative review.  As a community we came to that conclusion, but as a community we've allowed JollyGood to single handedly reverse that decision.
1625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: California to encourage companies to deal in cryptocurrency? on: May 06, 2022, 02:10:14 AM
I tried looking up some of Gavin Newsome's background on the internet and came across a book he wrote called Citizenville, which outlines the use of digital tools for democratic change. When we talk about democracy, we are not far from what is called freedom. Both in terms of the realm of freedom to decide opinions or determine the path of choice. In the book, he relates it to digital use, which means crypto is part of digital development itself. When Gavin Newsome urges every executive body to create a regulatory framework that means the freedom of companies dealing in crypto is restricted and controlled?

Few democracies are shackled, right? unfortunately, no one has linked crypto rules in his book.

The interesting thing about politicians in general, and quite specifically those who are Democrats, and quite precisely those Democrats from California; when they say "freedom" they intend exact opposite.

I don't know much about this Gavin Newsome, although that article is an absolute mess. Can't believe they had to put the Warren Buffet quote in, and its almost coming across as why would Gavin Newsome do this sort of thing, considering there's so many warning sides. I'm sensing a little bias in this article. Anyway, on to the question; I imagine they'll regulate it through taxes right? If you think about it, California has some of the most wealthy people, and businesses in the world, and I imagine a lot of them will be invested in Bitcoin, so it makes sense to adjust taxes to suit them. I'm not at all familiar with how states work, and how they pass laws, but I'm assuming they'll attempt to adjust the tax rate for Bitcoin/cryptocurrencies to be more than that of fiat, that would be my thinking. Plus, they'll bring in legalisation which benefits their pockets when it comes to operating a business involved with cryptocurrencies.

I imagine this will be the case for quite a few states, and countries. Cryptocurrency companies will likely be put under higher levels of scrutiny, and be taxed higher than the standard tax threshold, they'll justify this with its volatile, and risky nature, while directly benefiting from it.

The US Constitution is intended to keep each state as a separate entity.  It's essentially a contract that limits the power any level of government over a specific set of individual rights, but also sets limits on the Federal Government over the states.  Since it's inception, of course there have been attempts to thwart those limits by power hungry federal representatives (Senate Congress,) judiciaries (Supreme Court,) and executives (Presidents.)  But when the three branches collude, what can you do?  Picture the EU after 246 years of "globalist" interference.

As it is, the states still have a significant amount of power over their citizens, and that's by design.  Since it's a smaller government the idea is that it has more accurate representation of it's citizenry.

Of course Bitcoin is not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution, but what is mentioned is that anything that is not within the scope of the fed is within the realm of the states.  So, it's well within the state's rights to regulate anything that is not specifically limited as an "individual right."

Have you seen the movie American Underdog? It is a true story about Kurt Warner. To be honest with you I did not know who he is before watching the movie, however, from this movie it appears that the L.A. Rams is not unfamiliar in taking that type of risk. They might also have taken a much bigger risk on Kurt Warner who was considered to be not in the level of the NFL.

I was at Candlestick Park for a Rams game, it must have been y2k because Warner was filling in for Trent Green.  That was back when they really were the lambs.  They got slaughtered and Warner looked like a backup to a backup.  I wasn't following his career back in those days, but I had no choice latter on since his most productive years were as a division rival.  First with the Rams, then the Cardinals.

The one thing they never seem to take into account is intelligence, a great Quarterback is always smart.

All the athleticism in the world won't save you if you cant think on your feet.

I've never seen a stat to quantify that.

And you won't.  Being able to instantly identify the defensive set is one of the biggest differentiators between a decent and a great quarterback.  Peyton manning was a master at it. He always had 3-4 plays in the huddle for his guys.  Would go to the line and call the play based on the set.  He was the most unathletic person to ever strap on pads, yet was the best qb I've seen in lifetime.  (Along with Brady but that's a given)

Peyton Manning is probably the smartest man to have ever played the position.  There have been others, such as Steve Young who also had amazing athletic abilities.  But I think what sets the GOATS apart from the mere grates is the ability to process information rapidly, and have the ability to execute the solution accurately.  Tom Brady, obviously, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw are among those that I would say have been bestowed with superprocessors.  I think Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson both have the tangible and intangible abilities, but one is just getting started, and the other has been running for his life his entire career.
1627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / California to encourage companies to deal in cryptocurrency? on: May 05, 2022, 09:04:46 PM
I'm no fan of California's governor, Grave Nuisance Gavin Newsome, and now he's done something which I believe is a mixed blessing.  Yesterday he signed an executive order requiring regulatory agencies to create a regulatory framework for companies dealing in crypto.  I think this was inevitable, and certainly seems to be a harbinger of mass adoption, but exactly how do these bureaucrats expect to regulate crypto?

Let's be honest, Newsome isn't a fan of crypto but he's also not dumb.  He sees the tide is coming in, and he wants to make sure he's getting a piece of the pie.  Reading the article it becomes apparent that the headlines are rather misleading, and possibly intentionally so.  The purpose isn't to encourage crypto, it's to regulate it.

I've seen this kind of thing before.  In the aughts and teens California changed the way the internet does business.  In the early days mail order and internet purchases were not subject to California's sales tax, and through law-suits and regulation the state changed all that.  If there's a state in this country that has the sway and clout to change the way the world deals in crypto, California is the narcissistic state that thinks it has that swagger.  They may be right.

-They ask me to create a "secret" sentence (I don't remember in which step sorry but it wasn't in the tutorial I think. except this, the tutorial was gratand really well explained)

Electrum does indeed generate a 12-word secret seed phrase, that's the back up for your wallet.  The seed phrase creation part of the process is beyond the scope of my tutorial, which focuses on verifying the PGP signatures.  If you need help using Electrum there is plenty of information in this sub-forum, or feel free to create another thread to ask your specific questions.

No no you understand me wrongly.

It was not by installing Electrum (NOT seed phrase). It was by verifiyng the signature with GPG just after the "Generate new key pair".
They ask me to create a secret phrase (I had to choose it myself). It was not by using Electrum but well GPG.
I think it's a new step.

Yes, I must have misunderstood, sorry for that.  You are correct; when you create a GPG keypair the software does prompt you to create a password or a secret phrase.  I'll take a look at the tutorial and make sure it's more clearly mentioned.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello,

Thanks for this interesting post.

I am considering verify Electrum with your method. I have read carefully your tutorial but I still need to start the process.

I am a Mac user and I had several questions :
-I have already downloaded Electrum (from the original website : electrum.org) --> Do I have to uninstall Electrum and install it again after installing GPG, generate private key (I am not sure to understand the reason of the private key either) and Imprt ThomasV's PGP Key on MacOS ? Or I can verify Electrum while it's already on my MacOS ?
-For info, I am using the Electrum version 4.2.1

The version of Electrum isn't important, the method I described works for v4.2.1 and should work for future releases as well.  You don't need to uninstall Electrum to verify the .dmg file.  You just need to download the .asc signature file associated with the .dmg file, save it into the same directory as the .dmg file, and then run the verification.  If it passes then you know the software you've already installed is authentic.  If it doesn't pass verification, then you should definitely purge the installation.  Personally, if the verification fails I would purge the entire system, but I'm paranoid.

I had another question concerning :

"Import ThomasV's PGP Key on Mac OS
Download ThomasV's PGP Key from a trusted source.  If it's not already running, launch the GPG Keychain app, and click the import button.  Browse to the location where you saved the ThomasV.asc file, and select it."

Are these links are the trusted source for ThomasV's PGP key (in the beginning of your tutorial) :

"Redundant links to ThomasV's public key:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spesmilo/electrum/master/pubkeys/ThomasV.asc
https://keys.openpgp.org/search?q=6694D8DE7BE8EE5631BED9502BD5824B7F9470E6
https://keyserver.ubuntu.com/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x6694d8de7be8ee5631bed9502bd5824b7f9470e6"

If yes. I have opened the first link and there is indeed a long public key BUT I have no idea how to download it in .asc format. (sorry I'm new in bitcoin AND also in MacOs). Can you explain ?

From first you, it's the only steps that are unclear for the moment.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, those are trusted sources for ThomasV's key.  The easiest way to save the key is by copying the text from that first link, and pasting it into your favorite text editor.  You can then save it on your system with the name that you choose.  The name of the file isn't important, but remember where you saved it so that you can browse back to that location while importing into your GPG app.
1632  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: sending with electrum on: May 04, 2022, 09:48:52 PM
Electrum is for bitcoin only, it will not be able to access your Bitcoin Cash wallets.  Some people have been mislead to believe that they are buying bitcoin but are actually buying Bitcoin Cash which is a different cryptocurrency than the real Bitcoin.  If you want to access your Bitcoin Cash wallets there is an Electrum fork that is meant specifically for that currency, it's called Electron Cash.

The other option is using the Trezor Suite.  I'm almost certain it's compatible with Bitcoin Cash.

^ This!  I used to direct people to both bitcoincore.org and bitcoin.org, since bitcoin.org has some good tutorials and easy to follow instructions on setting up core.  If I'm not mistaken Bitcoin.org is (still?) owned by Cøbra, but he's got some legal trouble with it since a scammer is trying to claim he owns the domain name.

Until things get ironed out, I'm not too trusting of the bitcoin.org site.

There are speculations that Samuel Deebo might leave the 49ers, however there is no news on why he wants to leave or where he will be traded. Will it be as simple as he only want to leave California? If it is really his reason, I speculate that he might be moving somewhere in Texas hehehe. It might also be Nevada?

While we still don’t know the precise reason(s) for Samuel’s trade request, the fact that it’s gotten to this point counts as a failure, at some level, by the team. Unless the sole reason is he doesn’t want to be in San Francisco, the 49ers could have said or done something to keep the relationship from disintegrating to this point. And even if it’s as simple as Deebo not wanting to live and work in California and nothing more, his decision to disclose his desire to seek a trade suggests that there’s a level of animosity that shouldn’t exist between an NFL team and such an important player.

Source https://sports.yahoo.com/deebo-samuel-continues-intent-leaving-235904205.html

You will notice this is a growing trend in the NFL. More and more you see guys making a huge fuss about things they wouldn’t have in the past. A lot of it having to do with the franchise tag, that of course the players and their union hate.

I don’t see Deebo going anywhere. Just like how Kyler Murray who removed all his Cardinals photos from instagram isn’t going anywhere. This is how they get teams to meet them halfway, or give them what they want either the next year or when their contract comes due.

I reckon if Deebo wants to be traded to win a ring, I speculate Kyler Murray is making it appear he wants to be traded to get a bigger contract offer than his present contract hehehe. However, there were some teams where he was rumored to be traded. Las Vegas is not one of them which might be the most suitable for him if the Raiders wants to replace Derek Carr.

Out of all the local reporters who cover the Niners, there's one in particular, Matt Maiocco who seems to have a bit more "insight" than most, especially when it suits the team.  Lately he's been saying (without saying) that Deebo will be traded, and very likely it'll be tonight.

He's also been peddling the idea that Deebo is having a personal issue, presumably with one of the staff or possibly ownership.  I was under the impression that he and Shanahan got along great, so I'm doubting it's with the coach.  Not sure what to make of it, but it could be a ploy to make it look like it's not all about the money.  The Niners aren't known for giving large contracts, and maybe he's not trusting that the team will pay him what he wants to earn.  Supposedly the parties never even got the point of making an offer.

In other news; The first four draft picks are defensive players.  What are the odds it'll be a fifth?

It could be as simple as he wants a ring. Wink

For a ring, does this imply that he wants to go to Kansas? There is no more Tyreek Hill in Kansas anymore hehehe. It might also be to the Packers. I just read an article that there is also no more Davante Adams in Green Bay.

It might also be the Cowboys? Amari Cooper also was traded to Cleveland. They might have a chance for a good performance in the playoffs. There is also Tampa Bay.

I'm sure they would all line up for him but the chances of the Cowgirls getting a ring this year are nil to none. Wink

Hehehe, I will only believe that he wants a ring if he accepts a deal with a smaller salary from his new team. I speculate that this might be Tampa Bay or Green Bay.

I haven't been paying close attention, and only just learned about this.  My heart dropped when I heard the news.  Deebo was the brightest spark on our offense last year, he'll be hella missed if he goes.  No one seems to know why he wants to leave, maybe to get more money, have a better chance at a ring, or just to be closer to family.  Who knows.

If it's to get a better chance at a ring, that wouldn't really make much sense in my opinion.  No team is guaranteed a ring, and the Niners held their own up to the conference championship game last season.  Admittedly I was surprised by their success in the playoffs, but hey that's why they play the games.  The speculation about Green Bay seems to contradict the "Ring" reason, also.  Sure, he'd be playing with (arguably) the best QB in the league, but that's no slam dunk.  Exactly how many times has Green Bay won their division and failed to reach the NFC championship?

Although I will say that my hopes for the Niners reaching the super bowl are actually diminished from last year, but largely because I fear the unknown.  Trey Lance is unknown, and Garoppolo won lots of games.  Maybe Deebo sees it this way too, but he's too young to be worried about a ring this season.  Unless, of course, there's an unknown reason that contributes to his urgency.

I'm in for the body-cam footage, hope it comes with sound, need those popping sounds. I mean, i don't have high expectations, it will be low-scoring games that's for sure, but it can't be worse than the 2020 XFL season (which was canceled one month in due to covid). Speaking of XFL, i don't recall much of the games, but other things were entertaining, such as seeing a guy in the replay booth with an xbox controller running through the play, or player interviews on the sidelines:

The camera schemes seem might be fun, and the microchipped football is bound to make the game go faster.  Something the NFL is overdue on implementing.  One of the things that (I think) gave the 2020 XFL a chance was they tried to quicken the pace of the game, and take fewer commercial breaks.  There were some funny rule modifications that added a bit of drama also.

I reseeded my backyard yesterday and set up a camera and motion sensors to defend it from the damn turkeys LOL and I think that broadcast will be far more exciting than any summer "league".

There is an answer; turkey season is open until May 1st.

Would you like a weekly post that displayed all the feedback that DT members have sent & received?

This isn't a bad idea.  It would be neat to have an overview of DT1 activity.  I think a monthly update would suffice.  It can be done right after the monthly lottery, so the stats would cover all DT1 activity for the whole previous month.

How about highlighting the DT-members without any sent feedback? Those users should probably not have been added to DT in the first place.

Be carful what you wish for.  I've been on DT1 for the last few months even though I'm rarely active these days.  Not that I care about my position on DT1, but it's obvious that many do.  If those who wanted to get to and remain on DT1 were incentivized to leave feedback, I imagine we'd see a lot more frivolous reviews.  Considering the cliques that develop within the DT1 voting pool, it could become difficult to rein in.
