2601  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet address and the mistake some might make on: July 25, 2022, 07:15:20 AM
So that is why is advised to copy and paste the wallet address and send to the sender of the coin and not typed.
But of course, how do you even begin to type the address out in the first place? Isn't that like unnecessary? Anyway, I think anyone attempting that has ample time on their hand and wants to waste it needlessly. Besides, mistakes are even likely to happen while typing. Again, even copying it without scrutiny can lead to errors too. So, in copying an address I've make a point of checking the first few letters, the middle letters and the last four letters. Taking one's time in doing that isn't a waste of time. It's good to crosscheck details and not be in a haste while on financial transactions. I tend to treat my financial dealings with the precision of a defence lawyer in a murder case. Errors of omission shouldn't be allowed.
2602  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Take money $170,000 on: July 25, 2022, 05:46:26 AM
For me, number one rule of thumb for not getting scammed, whether online or offline is never expect to reap where you didn't sow. That's my financial guide besides never getting greedy. That which you shared here has been on for a long time now, especially on telegram. The first time I saw someone plastered their passphrase on a telegram group I knew that person wasn't that dumb doing that. It was a bait. I didn't even contemplate checking out the wallet transactions. I just continued reading other stuff. Those who fall for this type of setup have the tendency of scamming others. If not, why would anyone be quick to take advantage of a seemingly ignorant user.
2603  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading system understand on: July 25, 2022, 04:43:59 AM
1. indicators

*Leading And lagging indicator
Traders should know that it's better to stick to leading indicators than relying on lagging ones. Lagging indicators tend to play on the emotion of traders as they often repaint and adjust to the direction of price instead of remaining adamant like leading ones. That's why I like my line indicators of S&R, Trendlines, Pivot Points.

Quote
*Price pattern.
PA (Price Action) is important. There are traders who only rely on PA. Their eyes are where price is moving to and they check it on higher timeframes to ascertain their course of action.
2604  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you safely keep your recovery phrase written on paper? on: July 24, 2022, 07:26:16 PM
~
For example, ultraviolet. This way, by chance, no one will be able to see what you wrote, because the text in the booklet will be colorless under normal lighting.
Don't bank on that method because you won't be the only one who knows or understands how to use an ultraviolet ray to decode stuff on papers. My idea of masking secret words/stuff is to make them look as ordinary as possible. It's the same method local men in Africa who carry huge cash around use. They appear unkempt and unassuming when ferrying cash across in a way that even robbers are likely to miss them on the road.
2605  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you safely keep your recovery phrase written on paper? on: July 24, 2022, 06:11:40 PM
Lol. First, start cleaning up your own room! If you're old enough to be on Bitcointalk (for 6 years already), you shouldn't need your mom to clean up after you.
You took the word out of my mouth. I don't even know how OP thought that would sound to those reading this post.
Back to the question raised in the OP. For me I like to keep my secret phrases or passwords on a booklet containing other valuable articles and write-ups. Writing it on a booklet or two booklets as a way of duplicating them helps much. Copying passphrases/passwords online or storing them on the cloud or emails is a no-no for me. I like to keep it simple. Don't use a distinct booklet. Let it be on a booklet that won't trigger scrutiny of preying eyes. Then, sensibly leave the booklet at a place that won't make it look like you're hiding anything. After all, they say the best way to hide something is to expose it.
2606  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Educational: Breaking misconceptions about market crashs on: July 24, 2022, 05:08:24 PM
We need to break such misconceptions to build a stronger and more resistant market.
To a great extent I think this forum has been doing that. There's been enough sensitization against panic selling and I want to believe that the message is being absorbed by noob investors who care to read and adhere to that. Any watcher of Bitcoin from the past two halvings should know that what's playing out now had happened before and Bitcoin came out victorious. The market will continue to bull and bear because that's its nature.

It was only Altcoin related but Bitcoin declined in price, too.
Completely unreasonable because Bitcoin had NO issues.
It was only Altcoin related.
What happened there was the ripple effect of panic sellers. Panic sellers tend not to be rational whenever their emotions are punctured by FUD. They go on selling spree and don't care if their action is in any way related to the reality on ground.
2607  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is the possibility Bitcoin will rise before the end of the year ? on: July 24, 2022, 02:27:28 PM
Last year I predicted Bitcoin will rise above the value at the start of the year and I was totally right about it, in April Bitcoin eventually reached a new all-time high price of $64k.
Wow! You predicted Bitcoin rise last year? That's great. Anyway, I guess such prediction of yours wasn't done here seeing your account was registered in September or the prediction wasn't done with this account? Otherwise, I would've asked for you to send us the link to where you made that prediction. Again, I think you're merely chasing clout. If you saw tomorrow last year, it's obvious you can still consult your crystal ball again instead of asking random users here. Well, let me give you my take on when I think price may go bullish again. I'm looking at the last quarters of the year and I believe November will be a great month for that.
2608  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Educating people on Bitcoin for free on: July 24, 2022, 01:10:49 PM
~snipped~
People begin to learn something new, most often during a crisis or their own failures.
That's often the case in most instances. My question is always why wait till there's a financial emergency or crisis before doing what one ought to have embarked on under a relaxed atmosphere? As an aside, the case is even worse when you want to teach it to those around you for free. There's often that misconception that things given for free aren't valuable, especially when the person giving it isn't a flashy or flamboyant type. People want to equate one's level of achievement with flamboyant lifestyle. It's common in Africa. In Europe, those who have wealth may live in disguise especially if they aren't in showbiz but that isn't so in Africa. Most Africans like making their little wealth count as a form of intimidation to others.
2609  Other / Off-topic / Re: My View on Brand-Newbies to Legendary Members in the Forum on: July 24, 2022, 05:28:49 AM
Interesting perspective Tongue.

Year 1 and 2 should read and learn from their senior colleagues
Although, the above isn't necessarily true. There's plenty of examples of newer users being more knowledgeable than their seniors.
In addition to all you've said, OP should also know that not every new registered member is a true newbie. There are some who have been here a long time with vast knowledge of how the system works and decided to get an alt to test the ranking up hurdles or for any other reason. It's the same way some graduates enrol in other institutions or courses to switch it go higher. You can't compare their knowledge level with those of fresh students in the same field.

This is not a school nor a place to learn the major things about the Bitcoin  and it network. The forum is majorly for the discussion of Bitcoin not a learning specific site.
Really? You truly think so? Well, I see here as a school. In fact, a tertiary institution. You may say it's not a formal kind of school but it's definitely a school. Haven't you heard of online schools? For me, virtually everything I've come to learn about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is from here. I believe it's the same for most users here too.
2610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The RugPull scams/ How do recognize these projects? on: July 24, 2022, 04:45:18 AM
RugPull:
In this method, usually, the scammer person (or team) makes a lot of advertisements on social media like Instagram, and through influencers, they expand their project on social medias.
Next, they will list the project's tokens on a decentralized exchange and increase the liquidity (to increase the price of the token).
Finally, investors are promoted to buy this token.
Every project, whether seemingly genuine or not, has to embark on all that you listed. I don't see anything bad in doing that as it's publicity for the project. Would you rather a project launches and doesn't advertise itself? Adverts and publicity are needed to draw attention of investors to projects and thereby grow them. Without this, no one will know what any project is doing. However, that idiots and fraudulent developers utilize the same method to scam people shouldn't make it a conclusion that all projects doing so are scam and rugpull.

For me, I will suspect a project of rugpull if it doesn't have a meaningful presence on social media, especially on Twitter and Reddit. Telegram is a den of scammers.
2611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Educating people on Bitcoin for free on: July 23, 2022, 09:01:30 PM
To learn about bitcoin, you definitely need a desire. You can take small steps toward explaining it in an understandable language. And until a person understands one step, it is not worth raising him to the next. In the same way, the understanding of all other things occurs.
That's correct. Let me quickly add that it's not enough for anyone to set out to teach others when those they're trying to teach aren't even ready to learn. As interesting as the topic of Bitcoin may sound, we've to realize that not everyone would want to jump in learning it at once. There are those who will want to foot drag before getting involved in learning it. It could be that the subject of discussion is a new or strange one to them and their skepticism and doubt will make them stay out. Let me quickly share an experience I had with folks around me on Bitcoin when I got into it in 2017. Those I shared the Bitcoin stuff would listen with rapt attention to my preaching but at the end would not get involved because the desire wasn't there. Fast forward to 2021/2022; they now want to be tutored about Bitcoin. I guess it's because Bitcoin has gained more traction now than it did four years ago.
2612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: P2p is the original Satoshi strategy for Bitcoin exchange on: July 23, 2022, 07:54:14 PM
P2P isn't that easy to get into because a of scams from groups and outlets who masquerade as genuine spots.

Do you guys even read what people post in a thread before you?
Pardon? Was there any insinuation in my post that I (we) didn't read other posts above before quoting the one I did? My point is that since P2P involves buying and selling those who engage in it should be careful of scams. No matter what, or how anyone wants to look at it we can't rule out those who would want to outsmart others when it comes to P2P.
2613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto in Church. on: July 23, 2022, 03:01:37 PM
While this looks bizarre, I think it's good that a church is doing a useful thing.
Your statement is contradictory, except if your use of "bizarre" doesn't correspond with its real meaning. Otherwise, one would observe that you praised the action of the church in organizing a crypto lesson for its congregation. Why call it bizarre then? Anyway, I believe the church is in order educating its members on current happenings around the world as it concerns financial awareness and uplift. The church shouldn't be heavenly bound that it forgets it's still on earth with all its earthly challenges. If the congregation is taught financial stuff and it prospers, the church prospers with it too, vice versa. It's a simple logic and the leadership of the church knows that.
2614  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: P2p is the original Satoshi strategy for Bitcoin exchange on: July 23, 2022, 12:30:25 PM
and you don't have Bitcoin if your Bitcoins are on exchange wallets.
That's not entirely true. I know a lot of users advocate for people to get their Bitcoin off exchanges because of the "no key issue", however that's not commonsensical for everyone. It should be for hodlers/investors, not traders. Traders constantly need their cryptos on exchanges for transactions unlike hodlers who merely hodl and don't transact.

Quote
If you read through the Bitcoin white paper you will discover that Satoshi's statement on Bitcoin exchange is by p2p and did not mention anything like centralized exchanges, this is because Satoshi Nakamoto know the importance of holding your Bitcoin in your wallet, and not on the exchange
Frankly, without exchanges I don't see how Bitcoin could've got the type of widespread it has now. Centralized exchanges may have their issues and disadvantages but we can't rule out their role and push in the spread of Bitcoin. P2P isn't that easy to get into because a scams from groups and outlets who masquerade as genuine spots. Centralized exchanges (before now) aided the spread of this industry.
2615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Champions in this Bitcoin Winter on: July 23, 2022, 06:47:37 AM
"Leave Talk" is a Nigerian signature slang. One would've expected that the area/country of that scenario as used in the post be mentioned also. Did I miss it 🤔

This forum has helped newbie in the Bitcoin space to use, invest and hodl this priceless currency. Without this forum many members would have been inexperienced which might lead to making some costly investment errors.
This is true as it enables noobs learn from veterans and be reassured that whatever downside they see now in Bitcoin is only momentarily. Bitcoin is affording new fans an opportunity of a discount with this dip and people should utilize it. Leave talk, don't listen to naysayers. Just buy!
2616  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Saves my relatives both of Life, Time and money on: July 22, 2022, 12:09:22 PM
BTW, he doesn't even need to carry such amount of cash in the first place. The world is trying hard to achieve a cashless society, so why would anyone take such an ignoble decision of moving such heavy cash around physically? All the casino needed do was to transfer his winnings to his account. Just like that. The winnings are transferred to the winner, the winner then finds a way to transfer it back home to his dependents.
2617  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Countries have banned Bitcoin; Do you believe is because of criminal activities on: July 22, 2022, 06:21:14 AM
It's been discussed 100s of times here. But for the most part it seems to come down to taxes.
If that were the reason wouldn't it be easier for government then to find a way of deducting taxes than chasing shadows. That should be what they ought to work on instead of attempting to strangulate what they can't in the real sense control. If Bitcoin weren't decentralized, by now it won't be where it is today. Politicians would've made a mess of it. I think differently about the tax angle but tend to side with the OP, looking at the scenario based on my country's decision to go hard on cryptocurrency.

👇
But I think they are afraid of losing control of their citizens' financial activities

2619  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Vanity Address(es) on: July 19, 2022, 10:31:05 PM
~snipped~
Most likely, it was just a coincidence. The chances are slim, but still possible.
The only thing that could've made that address generation possible would be perhaps an email address I used because I had to tie 2FA to that wallet. That's the only plausible explanation I would've for that. To be honest, I'm sure I wouldn't have even noticed the peculiarity of that address if I hadn't read and known about vanity address to be somewhat customized like number plates. It would've passed like any regular address before me if not that I often take note of the first four letters and last four of my wallet addresses in order to check for any malware changing wallet address from clipboard. Well, I guess (I'm thinking, anyway) Blockchain did that to say a little thank you to a loyal customer like me.
2620  Economy / Economics / Re: CBN to stop circulation of Naira note on: July 19, 2022, 06:57:10 PM
If the Nigerian government push people into e-naira while they are stopping "bitcoin trading" and banks connected accounts, they are invariably speaking with both sides of the mouth
Let me play the devil's advocate here and that's me saying that the double speak of the Nigerian government on the issue you pointed out could be from them not truly having a complete grasp of what cryptocurrency is, and not because they genuinely want to. This present administration run by the APC government of Mohammadu Buhari seems to be the worst of all administrations bereft of knowledge of economics. Those who are supposed to be manning the economy aren't up and doing and as such can't properly advise the president on what to do. Two figure inflation has hit Nigeria and all of them are acting like nothing is amiss because whether they get the country out of it or not, they still get their salaries. It's a shame.

BTW, speaking from both sides of the mouth is what politicians all over the world do. However, it's worse in Africa because citizens aren't holding their leaders accountable to their words and actions.
