1601  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I Never belittle my SATs because a drop of water makes an ocean on: March 27, 2023, 06:14:24 PM
There is that popular provers which say, A drop of water can make an ocean. yes I believe is true because I gradually accumulated some SATs and now have move from being Satoshi owner to Bitcoin holder.
OP, you talked about patiently accumulating sats instead of waiting to buy a whole Bitcoin. It's a given that most users here may not even have owned a whole Bitcoin. Besides, the positive thing is to hodl and keep hodling as that shows support for Bitcoin. It shouldn't matter if it's not up to 1 BTC.

Yeah, the appropriate situation based on your story is when Bitcoin price is still cheap and faucet site can give you 1000-5000 Satoshis for every minute, if you claim it for everyday you can make a good living if you hold it until now.
I believe you're referring to the pre-2017 era. I read it was a glorious era for faucet claimers. I tried my hand on faucets too around 2017/2018 but my experience was far from encouraging. I don't know how many people still indulge it now as it seems to be a waste of time.
1602  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: using same address twice on: March 27, 2023, 05:37:44 PM
That means if you only use one adress everyone can See how much money you have and what you earn etc.
I think that's the only reason most people don't like reusing addresses. It's not as if anyone can hack those wallets through the public keys offered. If anyone here cared about such happening to them, then engaging in signature campaigns shouldn't be a thing for them. Come to think of it, except someone knows you directly or in person I don't think anyone would want to spend their free time running through another person's transactions.
1603  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto space: A Wild Wild West on: March 27, 2023, 04:29:16 PM
•Scams attracts people faster than something legit because something legit takes time, only fraud and scams rushed in attracts people fast.
This is the single reason I don't rush into anything that is hyped. Nope, I don't. I stay aside and watch it for sometime. During my wait, that's when I go into research to decide if the project is worth investing my hard earned cash on or not. Hype and the mad rush that follows it because of FOMO becloud our sense of good judgment. From experience, anything that stresses me thinking straight, I skip it. I've realized that whenever I take decisions in a hurry they often leave me with bad choices.
1604  Economy / Economics / Re: Americans go to Mexico for medicals to cut costs. on: March 27, 2023, 03:11:53 PM

On the top 24 on that list, neither Mexico nor the US made it in there. It shows the dip in the health sector of both countries. Now I know why those seeking medical help outside my country don't head to the US. Instead they head to either the UK or Germany.

On a lighter note, it isn't for nothing that we've the Red Cross symbol on the Switzerland flag. The reason is clear.
1605  Economy / Economics / Re: Is capitalism killing morality in the name of the law? on: March 27, 2023, 03:01:09 PM
Making money by prostitution is an immoral profession in almost every society. But today this immoral profession has a modern counterpart. Its name is porn industry. And the porn industry is regulated by law.
The pornographic industry isn't the same as prostitution. Those in the industry see themselves as actors (and that's rightly so) because it's a movie industry. We can safely refer to prostitution as an exchange of sex for money. In porn, actors get paid for their roles just like others in other movie sects (be it soaps, sitcoms, horror movies, religious etc) and not that they're exchange sex for pay.

Quote
Do you think moral concepts are being killed by capitalist imposing laws who want to make more money?
Yes, I think capitalism has actually corrupted morals more than any other pattern of government; be it feudalism, socialism or communism. Of these I mentioned, capitalism is the worst. This is one of the major dislikes of democracy.
1606  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you describe bitcoin to a newbie? on: March 27, 2023, 12:00:37 PM
Can somebody assist me in anyway?
Away from all those terminologies and jargons concerning Bitcoin, I like to explain it the simplest way I can to newbies as two things – legal tender and (2) an asset. Those who understand buying and selling will easily catch up with that. I don't like being highly technical when teaching anyone Bitcoin because it can be confusing and exhausting for the learner and then make them lose interest.
1607  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the government can really make a way to end poverty or it depends on us? on: March 27, 2023, 09:04:34 AM
Poor people will continue to exist on earth so long as life exists. Those who think it can be ended don't sincerely understand the dynamics. It's not going to change. From centuries ago, poor people existed and I don't think it's going to be any different now. Everyone can't be rich even if government provides for all what is required to become rich. Poverty shouldn't be seen as something abominable. It should be recognized as a major part of life.
1608  Economy / Economics / Re: Is risky to invest this period on: March 27, 2023, 07:23:02 AM
...understand one thing: bitcoin has a future, and while you are crying, people are gaining knowledge.
What you said there is just the honest truth. Anyone badmouthing Bitcoin at a time like this, knowing we're in a pre-halving year doesn't truly understand how it works. If anything, now is the very right time to buy and store up for the imminent bull run that will take place. We're looking at 2024 and then 2025 to produce a new ATH that speculatively go above $120k. That's my speculation, anyway.
1609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Staking advice needed on: March 26, 2023, 05:17:26 PM
For a long term holder / investor, what are the risks available with staking coins and tokens that you plan to hold for a long period of time? I want to know if its safe to keep your coins in staking instead of just holding them in a wallet when your ultimate plan is to hold for long term.
I had a nasty experience with some tokens I staked last year. At first, I was scared going into it but after a while with conviction from another crypto friend I jumped in. It was an enjoyable experience until that which I dreaded happened. I was compounding my tokens on the site I staked them. Then one day I tried to access the site only to discover that the site was down. Later, I discovered that it had scammed. It was like a dream to me. I lost a lot of funds in that encounter but then that's business. Life goes on. It still won't stop me engaging in staking if I see an enticing offer again.

1610  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk and the fall of Twitter on: March 26, 2023, 04:19:32 PM
Naturally, Twitter's revenue has declined and is likely to further decline in the coming days.

From what is on that graph, it isn't looking like there's a decline in revenue from Twitter. If anything, it's looking like revenue is on a steady rise instead. Come to think of it, this period is a time where most companies aren't finding it easy with inflation and all that on the increase. I know that a lot of people didn't like the shakeup at Twitter when Musk took over but that's what should happen during a takeover by a new owner. In all of this, I still believe the ingenuity of Elon Musk to turn any bad situation to a great one. He isn't the richest man on the globe by luck. Dude knows what he's doing.
1611  Economy / Economics / Re: Scarcity of money on: March 26, 2023, 01:55:17 PM
I hope we are save!
Yes, we're all safe. At some point, water will find it's level and all will return to normal. I took a peep at your profile and discovered you're Nigerian, my compatriot. You wrote from the Nigerian view point and erroneously made it look like a global issue. No, it's not. Besides, what's happening in Nigeria is artificial scarcity deliberately orchestrated by the Buhari administration for whatever reasons we don't know. I've to admit that such thoughtless action of the ruling party carried out by the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, has drastically dealt with every Nigerian as it's now.
1612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Given an option between Bitcoin and Fiat which do you prefer? on: March 25, 2023, 02:34:55 PM
You opinions and thoughts are welcomed, let us discuss.
If I'm sandwiched between these two options and my country (Nigeria) has a liberal policy on cryptos (at the moment she doesn't have) and I can find vendors who accept Bitcoin or stablecoins, I would kiss fiat goodbye for good. Honestly, nothing compares to using Bitcoin to fiat. The convenience and ease that cut off middlemen is second to none. On occasions I did Bitcoin transfers to trading partners they were very convenient for me. I think a time will come when more people will see this aspect of Bitcoin and make that switch to its use.
1613  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bear And Bull Market? on: March 25, 2023, 01:28:06 PM
And if you want to earn good profit by investing then you must invest from bear market.
But of course, that's the basic ideal of business – to make substantial profit. The problem however is knowing at what point price will take a turn. Trading is highly speculative business and as such no one can confidently of a certitude point out the end of a bear season and the beginning of a bull one. It's vice versa. At every point you think the market has dipped a lot you can begin a DCA pattern of buying of any favourite coin of your choice in order not to completely miss out.
1614  Other / Meta / Re: How to Unlock Topic on: March 25, 2023, 12:28:00 PM
The question was already answered by several veteran members and explained as well.
OP should know that this is a valid reason why mods lock up threads and likely why the one they're bemoaning here was locked too. They should lock this up or mods will dutifully do what's needful once again.
1615  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism Vs Scam on: March 25, 2023, 08:47:35 AM
In the forum I see many big scammers continue their work, their accounts only have red tags, on the other hand, I see many accounts getting banned for plagiarism.
So my question is now is the crime of plagiarism more offensive than scamming? Huh
Honestly, I've asked similar question too. Why is scam left unmoderated and in cases where the scam is clearly proved to have taken place, nothing is still done. For me, both should be weighed on the same scale. Forum admins should revisit that rule and activate a ban clause on scam because scam does as much scare as plagiarism to this forum. I don't subscribe to the notion that users should be wise enough to spot a scam. Not everyone will be as wise as those who already knew how. After all, commonsense isn't common.
1616  Other / Meta / Re: Can I merit a banned account? on: March 25, 2023, 06:46:33 AM
It might sound silly but I makes one feel among those that made the history even when the accounts are no longer active.
No, you aren't silly. Exactly the perspective I hold. I wanted to quote that comment from hilariousandco before I saw your apt response to it. I think the relevant thing is the post being merited and not "account". If I see a post that appeals to me, I don't bother going to find out if the account owner is active or not, or banned or not. I just merit it. Banned accounts and inactive accounts share the same peculiarity. Look at those inactive accounts you mentioned and the loads of merits they got because of the relevance and importance of the posts they made.
1617  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: What if we complain less and help more ? on: March 23, 2023, 02:59:50 PM
Na true be all the things wey you yarn put there. If you bring anyone now wey forum tough like kanda dem go think sey you fit influence much for dem, especially into merits. The matter hard now unlike wen I enta here. Then na just to carry activities automatically enta new rank.

Again, about dat investing in Bitcoin of dem nor fit write, I try am too. The person wey I help invest made better profit but decided not to reinvest. Me I kuku leave am.
1618  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: What if we complain less and help more ? on: March 23, 2023, 12:54:06 PM
The question is " must everyone venture into cryptocurrency"?
No, this is purely no because not everyone could have that interest or patient to venture into digital world, our old parents can't venture into trading or investment because they may not have the time and energy to seat and watch the market.
Na true you talk sey nor be everybodi go like involve for dis owa type of hustle. Na the same way nor be everibodi go lawyer, doctor or even politicians. We gat to find wetin suit us to do. The koko na to do legit biz and gather kishi. Again, I nor believe sey age get anything to do with learnin cryptos. Na just laziness dey make some of owa old people not to venture into it. The time to read and learn, dem feel sey dem nor get am again. You know how many above 60 years olds wey dey here. For we naija sef, 60yrs don begin enter old people.

1619  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: African Proverbs in Pidgin on: March 23, 2023, 12:41:22 PM
Proverbs: Them no dey wash  dirty pants for outside.

Meaning: you don't correct a bad habit publicly
Well, e go depend on the bad habit too because some of dem dey like public reset before dem go correct.

E bi like dis other proverb – Dem nor dey scratch hair wey lice dey gently. The reason be sey if you dey do am like dat the lice not go die, dem go dey multiply dey go. Scratch am hard and rough and e go kill dem.
1620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how much money is considered as "invest only what you can afford to lose" on: March 21, 2023, 09:42:52 PM
~snipped~
Well is not arguable but it all depends on the individual, you talks according to your capacity of bearing a risk lost, I commented according to his post because as a newbie who don't have deep revelation on bitcoin can go by that way, but as a legend you are who gets all knowledge concerning bitcoin can endangers in himself with such decision.
Please, don't get me wrong. My comment wasn't to disparage your view in anyway. Nope, not at all. I raised two salient issues in that post – savings and 2) investment– but let me address the one of savings where both of us seem to be on the same wavelength. The idea of saving money in the bank while one can invest it is utterly not a wise decision.

For me, I keep a greater part of my money in cryptos (Bitcoin and alts), not in fiat. By storing it in cryptos, it serves as an investment still. Even when I'm not actively investing it, I store it in stablecoin. That way, it retains its value and not be taken up by the effects of inflation.
