OK.  Just out of interest, what are your predictions on price performance today?

I think in purely price terms the last 7 days has been very positive (whitepaper etc comes under the amazingly positive category!)

My money is on no pump, just a rise to 0.008 and steady afterwards if release goes well.

2)  Even with a load of people cpu mining it might just not be worth it.  Some maths to be done I think!

That is true... what I would wish for is to have a raspberry pi that has somekind of X11 USB ASIC miner attached to it. Then we could make this work.

Hopefully by 2015 the first X11 USB ASIC miners will appear on the market.

In theory, there is no reason why I can't offer multiple algorithms.  I've got a few Ghs of Scrypt mining going to waste that I'd be happy to point towards a "charity" pool

What are people's thoughts on possible mining fees?  the good news is that hardware/network costs are likely to be quite low.  When running 6Ghs X11 bursts through Nomp we were only using 1-2% CPU on a T2.medium.  It could probably be hosted on something much smaller (if a colab with the official pool doesn't happen).

Maybe contact the guys from xpool.ca

I indirectly "mine" DRK there by mining a few SHA256 coins. They sell the SHA256 coins every 2-3 days, and I get DRK in return.

Maybe we can get them on board for your charity project.
They get advertizing, you get your percentages.

Just realised that I didn't mention the most important thing....this is clearly a not for profit venture.  If I ended up running the pool, I'd apply to the dev fund to reimburse me for actual costs incurred...

I have sent Propulsion a message explaining my idea to mobilise the masses with a CPU miner that runs when idle.

I'm keen to either collaborate with Propulsion or if we can't find middle ground, I can put together a business case to do this separately.

I am thinking of setting the mining fee to be anything between 5-10% to make this useful to the dev team.  If I use Nomp then (probably small) payments will be made directly to contributors wallets and to the ringfenced development fund.

If we collaborate with the official DCT pool then I think increased fees will drive serious miners away.  There may be a way that we can use Propulsions platform but have two pools.  One for serious miners and one for dust sweepers donating a larger sum of their payouts directly to the development fund.

There are two major possible issues:

1)  Evan may already have this sorted as part of the Darkcoin Foundation
2)  Even with a load of people donating their idle cpu time it might just not be worth it.  Some maths to be done I think!

I think the principle is sound and the cause worthy.  Now I just have to work out if it is practical and if I can collaborate with Propulsion or go with a separate NOMP.

I would point a few CPUs to mine for wages. That is a really good idea. A paid team that would give a stake etc. Really good idea.

or better yet. Is it possible to mine Darkcoin with a raspberry pi?

I know that you will probably only make a few duffs with it, but it would basically cost nothing to set up and run for eternity.

Darkberry pi?

The point is to utilise as many spare CPU cycles as we can find. No reason we can't use Pi! And if people want to direct their rigs to the pool for a few hours a month all the better. Or donate DRK indeed.

I'll drop him a line. We'll have to decide whether we work together or I start a separate pool. Testing was successful on Tuesday.

I'll go away and have a chat with Propulsion, Evan and a few others and if it fits into the bigger picture I'll announce something soon.

On more directly related matters.

Whats going on with the price?  The order depth is like a Byronian dual!  Lots of bids and asks and ten paces between them!

Can anybody put me in touch with the person who runs the darkcointalk mining pool?  If its not covering even the web site costs we need to have a rethink.

We need a PR person as well as a Kristov Atlas available to hire.

Earlier this week I was conducting a bit of a mining experiment with flare.  At one point we controlled nearly 5% of the network hashrate.

Anyway, I digress.  I think there needs to be a fund where people can donate a few duff to ultimately buy in the expertise that we might be missing as a community.  One idea I had was a CPU miner that only mines when your computer is idle but x% of mined blocks goes to the skill recruitment fund.

People could either donate DRK if they have some to spare or just run an executable on their computer.

What do people think about this?  I reckon if enough of the community used their idle CPU cycles to mine from a dedicated NOMP instance then quite a hashrate could build up.  Obviously there is nothing stopping people from pointing their GPUs at it now and again.

Not only would it be good for the PR and Comms of Darkcoin, it'd be healthy for the network too!

I think that's a great idea.  I certainly would go back to mining for that purpose.  Right now.... well, I have my family server still mining but not hard and the minecraft server is up and running again, LOL.  But heck yah, I'd do that, and donate all to the fund.

Flare is going to run it by Evan and if it gets the nod, we're pretty much ready to go with a mining pool and CPU miner.   I just need to write a few guides on how to exclude minerd from your AV software as it is detected as malware by most AV solutions.

Basically I need to establish:

1)  Does the Darkcoin Foundation see a need for donations to fund testing and Quality Assurance/Management
2)  If so, where does the mining fee from the darkcointalk pool go?  Does it just cover costs of operating?
3)  If 2 is true, then would there be any objections from the dev team and community about setting up a pool that solely donates to a ringfenced fund to be used to bring in people or pay for hosting etc.

We might even be able to structure it so 0.5% goes to paying for the pool hosting and 1.5% goes to the fund.  Any remainder goes to the miners...

A Oneplus One Invite for someone in this community!
I LOVE YOU ALL! I'm not very active, but I was here since February.

This coin paid for my furniture, and made me financially independent (not rich, for now...)

Here's a gift for you:
https://account.oneplus.net/invite/claim/DIR9-YBA2-ZEEH-IRXU

Thank you Evan =)

I hope Evan sees this.  Congratulations on your success!

Unfortunately you're not going to get much love there - altcoins get downvoted to hell regardless of content.

And it's hard to blame them - the fact is a majority of altcoins are essentially a scam. Darkcoin is one of a few if not the only that in my mind is not a scam or pump and dump or shitcoin or what have you.

So I'm not quite sure how to change perception enough to even get people to read the paper before criticizing it - but as a community we probably should think/talk about it - because  that will be our next growth hurdle: getting mainstream cryptocurrency attention as something more than a shitcoin.

Change happens slowly.  In 2009 Bitcoin was a "shitcoin scam" as well.

First produce the tech, then push the PR, and then slowly people will look more closely and see how much DRK really has to offer.  However for the time being, as you say, jumping right in r/bitcoin especially now that they are agitated over the recent dump is asking to get eating by one of those dinosaurs.

Yes, but on the other hand, we kind of have to let people know.  For DRK's sake and for theirs.  We want DRK to be widely adopted, and we can't hide in our little bubble or else we'll suffocate in our little bubble.  Even if people say nasty things, when they actually look at the evidence, they will have been fairly warned and then they can not complain if they don't hop on board.

Evan's Paper:
https://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/InstantTX.pdf

Can i please get a "translation" into simple dummy wording
what this paper means ?!
I understand instant transactions,
but what ... using the Masternode (1000 each) as a collateral for the purchases made,
to speed up the transactions ?! Proof of Work ?
....>
Tx

Wow, I just finished reading.... um, let me try...

when a person wants to spend coins, they tell everyone (broadcast) and put a lock on the fund in their wallet.  The current group of masternodes receives this information, and when they all verify the same information (validate it), they let all the other clients on the network know it is so.  This takes only seconds and the coins are then considered "cleared"

If the person spending the money tries to send conflicting information (tries to spend the coin twice, by paying himself the same coins= double spending attack, which they could code into their wallet so it happens really fast) the conflicting information will cause the masternodes to reject the lock, and the coins spent will have to wait to go through the mining process to be validated. (one will be accepted, the other rejected as it is done currently)  This will also happen if one of the masternodes that were elected to do the work ends up losing connection (or tries to pull something).

This makes 3 types of attacks virtually impossible to commit.

Wow

Nice explanation. I tried but couldn't put it as simply as that.

Waht would happen to the consensus if someone took like a lot of money, and bougt online like 3000 mn that he/she/them controll ?
would this not be same sitation like the 51% attack on network hash ?

To do so would cost the attacker more money that the exploit would be worth.

Lets not rule out the irrational nutcase trying to ruin DRK.  Even then, if Vertoe couldn't get hold of 47K DRK without turning heads yesterday...how on earth is anybody going to get hold of 3m DRK?

So this i not useful for any coin without a masternode system !
Looks like DRK will be the one and only crypto currency with a future,

Oh wait, in ten days evan will open source his work

I see a lot of clones comming up to scam out the last fanboy of crypto

You can't copy and paste 900+ Masternodes worth $3 million+ quite so easily as you can code. Evan understands fundamental economics better than most.

To prove your point even further, the masternode system has been open source since day one anyway. It's Darksend that's being open-sourced.

Evan, can we dare dream about NFC?

Many impressive features become possible after implementing the transaction locking system
and consensus system into the Darkcoin network. These include a considerable reduction to the
size of the blockchain, a completely backwards compatible architecture and instantaneous
transactions from clienttoclient without waiting for a confirmation.

I'm only on page 8 and I have just started giggling loudly to myself in a room by myself.

This is one of the most brilliant solutions to a problem that I have ever read (up until page 8 anyway!

Thing is, the solution was pretty much there already, Evan just had the genius to realise it...  Grin

No need to wait for consensus from miners in the minutes when MNs can do the same thing is seconds.

I wish I could hire people with that level of clarity of thought.  The paper is well written too.

Right, enough Duffbuttlicking!  Time to buy!
