InstantX may going to be our nuclear-weapon, if it gets implemented before dark and we get significant coverage in coindesk and other leading medias.

lol, you don't even have a network (let alone even structure of masternodes) and you're talking about IX. LMFAO.

Darkcoin has even had InstantTX running in testnet.  I've sent a few ITXs myself.

Who knows though, maybe Mr Spread has a better way to do it up his sleeve and will beat Darkcoin to it.

Spreadcoin dev seems to think that he'll have masternodes up and running in a few weeks with InstanTX a few weeks after for example.  Whether this is possible remains to be seen but people are benefiting from our dev team's work and also learning from our mistakes.

You're kidding right?  Huh  He actually said that? What is Spreadcoin anyway? (disregard last question)

No specific dates, just "in a few weeks" mentioned a few times.  Anyway...their thread is interesting to visit and ask questions about specific plans for the future.  Not for discussion here  Wink

Technical question again ( wish I had some Beta brains like some of you have ), but like Crypto too much.
Is my understanding correct that in case BTC and LTC also want too add stuff that DRK already has ( like Darksend, coin mixing and InstantX ) they are forced also to be forked or "sporked" and make a lot of updates ?

Not lots of updates because Evan is doing all the hard work and we're his guniea pigs, anyone is free to adapt Darkcoin's opensource technology into their coins at any time.

But absolutely yes, they'd need to fork to adapt Darkcoin's features.

Spreadcoin dev seems to think that he'll have masternodes up and running in a few weeks with InstanTX a few weeks after for example.  Whether this is possible remains to be seen but people are benefiting from our dev team's work and also learning from our mistakes.

Good answer, thanks!

Definitely better "value" than playing the lottery though even if both are throwing your money away (depending on luck).

Damn!

CEX.io is now the second largest DRK market paired with BTC. Quite literally overnight they went from 1.xx% to 14%.
In fact, all their pairs have gone up, especially DRK/LTC (3.36% !!!)

They're a decent exchange although a little fee heavy.

I introduced them to our business dev team a few months ago and they seem very keen on the future of DRK.

Maybe they are focussing more on their exchange business whilst they are suspending their cloud mining ops.

I'm currently at London Bitcoin Expo and I am hoping that they have some of their team here so I can say hello.
1986  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: probability of generating a block solo mining Bitcoin vs lottery on: January 24, 2015, 12:12:01 PM
Massive dredge!

I am having a debate with a friend about the probability of solo mining a block at 4Gh/s at current difficulty and specifically we are comparing it to the UK National Lottery which costs £2 to play with a probability of winning £1,000 of 1:55000 and a probability of winning £50k of 1:2,300,000...(jackpot is roughly 1:14,000,000)

We estimate that the probability of solo mining a block at 4GH/s to be roughly 1:600,000.

Do you think we are approximately correct?

All my Masternodes were showing up with the Safe mode error last night on the current version (0.11.0.11). I started with -reindex and remove peers.dat and did a grep on them all. Everything was fine for around 12 hours but they're now showing up with the same error again. Is this a known issue? Just wondering whether it's worth reindexing again or just wait for 0.11.0.12.

No need to wait until 11.0.12.

If you have updated both remote and local and (deleted peers.dat and reindex when you start) you should be fine.

When I did that yesterday all of my masternodes have been up and stable.  28 hours and counting.

My name is Mr. Spread

If you could like posts on BCT, I would have liked that post.  Grin

Yes, lets encourage people to blindly trust someone who we know absolutely nothing about and, just like eduffield, continually makes insider/whale friendly changes. NO ONE will ever get scammed that way ! Genius ! Roll Eyes

Btw.. how secure and decentralized do your precious MNs look to everyone now ?

Sure, and you know everything about Satoshi Nakamoto, following your logic: Bitcoin = shit.

Cheers

Everybody is so defensive on this thread!  This identity debate only started because I asked if we knew who Mr Spread is...its a reasonable question!

We found a pretty bad vulnerability in Bitcoin, we'll see what happens:

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/5698

For my non technical understanding, DRK works completely separate from these BTC issues correct ?

@miningpros not correct, if DRK's codebase is Bitcoin Core 0.9.3, that issues related to Bitcoin is also valid in DRK.

Correct.  And it has been patched in Darkcoin.

The vulnerability basically means that in the unlikely event that Bitcoin forks, the Bitcoin clients will experience the same crashes that the Darkcoin clients experienced during our recent fork.

In other words, it was Bitcoin code that was causing the node instability rather than the fork.

EDIT:  Whilst Bitcoin forks are very rare there has been an increasing amount of discussion about a Bitcoin hardfork to make some changes at some point in the future. Even if this issue had gone unreported I'm sure it would have been found in pre release testing.

Well done for finding it and kudos for reporting it.

What sort of vulnerability are we talking here?
1994  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 23, 2015, 01:18:33 PM
Does anybody know who Mr Spread is?

I don't know, was just interested to know if he is publicly known like the devs from other major coins.
1995  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: January 23, 2015, 11:43:18 AM
Interesting. Bct down as soon as the forks appeared in DRK's blockchain and returned once they have been solved. Seems legit

I confess.  I hacked BCT and used my ninja skills as a storage specialist to damage their storage arrays in order to provide a distraction from the fact that there was a Darkcoin fork to protect the value of my holdings.

You got me.

Take me away.

I'll come cleanly.
1996  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 21, 2015, 12:44:57 PM
Hey Stonehedge,

As others have stated, not a whole lot has changed since you last checked in.  Dynamic masternodes and the masternode GUI screenshots are exciting, but I'm not buying anymore SPR until I see everything functioning on testnet.  I went through my initial accumulation (as I did with DRK) and now I'm waiting for actual functioning code before I add to that position.

The whole reason I am here is because of Mr. Spread's obvious coding talent and creativity.  I invest in developers, not coins.  I trade shitcoins for fun, but the few actual crypto investments I have are because of the developers.  Developers like Evan Duffield, the giant Ripple dev team, Mr. Spread, and a couple other coins with good devs.

Should you add to your position?  Beats me.  Depends on your risk-reward appetite.  I still consider Spreadcoin to be reasonably risky which is why I'm not adding to my position at present.  If you're happy with the coin you have at present, then do what you're doing -- check in on occasion to see what has changed, if anything.  If you'd like to go for a bigger hit, add a little.  But in the end, it's all about what you're comfortable with.

With all that said, I suspect you already knew all this and are kicking the tires of what you suspect is a pretty good car Wink

Nice well reasoned response.  Thanks.

You're right.  I am here tyre kicking what I suspect is a pretty good car however I am put off by the amount of cheerleading that is posted in comparison to actual news.

Other than that, I'm a little wary of a dev who doesn't use their real name although I also understand reasoning why Mr Spread might want to stay anonymous.  It took a bit of soul searching before I decided to use my real name as part of the Darkcoin team.

TestNet MN's runs parallel to normal MN's (which still gets paid) on the same VPS ?!
what funding recourses do you mean ?

No, often (usually?) people pay for additional VPS instances just for use on testnet. It's better than having an unstable testnet daemon cripple your live MN.

Ah ok
tx for the details !

Yup, a number of people pay for VPS instances to be used solely on testnet so they can be used for masternode testing and also for wallets to sit there and auto mix coins.

Hello guys,

Does anyone experience frequent crashes of the Darkcoin QT (newest version for MAC OS) on a macbook air? If needed, I still have my crash report.
Thanks.

I've had this problem for a few versions now to the point that I no longer have QT on my Air.
2000  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: January 21, 2015, 08:23:14 AM
How long do "darksend denominate" transactions take to confirm?  Should I do anything if it has been sitting in that status for 20 min?

nevermind, went through!

Feel totally free to ignore this advice, but declaring when you are mixing compromises your own anonymity, which you may or may not care about, but since you are more identifiable it also weakens the anonymity of the people you are mixing with. Considering i am fairly sure no single person owns 1500 masternodes it is a very small point, but it looks like I am the guy who is pointing it out this time around. Not telling you what to do though, stick your dick in the mashed potatoes for all i care. The more you know!

I'm just mixing for fun...so no real problem there.  I'm sorry if I compromised anyone else..won't do it from now on.

On another note, DirectBet wasn't good to me today

Don't be sorry hombre, was just a good opportunity to remind everyone. I also am just firing up some DirectBet, I keep it small so I can keep playing!

I hit 2 of the same numbers back to back in a total of 5 rolls.  ( 25 25 1 87 87). I find it really hard to believe that it's random... Something like that is like 1/million

Actually man that might be indicative that it is closer to true random. As I understand it, usually when you give humans the option of choosing something "random" its actually a contrived algorithm to appear random to us. True random seems fake to humans because it has occurrences of lots of repeat numbers and weird shit like that, and since we are evolved from apes our brains were totally not needed in that category they short circuit and it doesn't appear random to us. Something like that!

Apparently, there's a lot of truth to this... I heard that the iPod 'shuffle' function was originally a random one, but then people complained that they'd get the same song twice and that it was much to frequent to be random! So Apple made the 'shuffle' function less random... To make it appear more random!  Roll Eyes  Wink

Walter

+1 on this.  I have seen similar patterns on Directbet.

I also rolled on a 1 to 90 bet and got a zero.  That really pissed me off Smiley

Maths will always win given enough of a chance.
