Just a quick heads up for the DRK community.

Various IRC channels for other coins have been discussing starting a FUD campaign against DRK on or around 25th February.  I'm not going to publicly name the aliases of the people involved or the coins they support because its just not worth it.  They seemingly forget that DRK supporters are in their caves too  Roll Eyes

If it does turn out to be a frustrating week or so, my advise is to be judicious with the ignore button and ignore anybody who isn't being constructive.  If their tech is better, their coin will prevail.  If our coin is poor, it will fail.  There is not point losing civility about it.
1823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The TRUTH about Darkcoin: ZERO Anonymity, EASY DOS attacks, & Amateur code base! on: February 24, 2015, 05:17:28 PM
And so begins the promised barrage of FUD about Darkcoin that has been seen being planned in various IRC channels for the past few weeks.  Question is, why did ***** ***** choose 25th Feb for it to start?  And if you coin is better than Darkcoin then why not just win out by, er, being the better coin?

Firstly, lets hope that Mr Spread is ok.

Evan is absolutely, 100% a single point of failure.  While devs like Vertoe are amazing and worth their weight in gold, I do not believe (but would love to be wrong) that they can step into Evans shoes and get Darkcoin's core code to the point it needs to be.  There will come a point where Evan is no longer a single point of failure, but at this point, if Evan got hit by a bus or pulled a Mr. Spread, the value of Darkcoin would tank.  I suspect that won't be the case a year from now.

As someone who had a closer look or three into the Darkcoin-coding let me slightly disagree with you.

I am 100% positive that flare, vertoe and UdjinM6, supported by "my first language is blockchain!"-Aswan, "I integrate KeePass in one weekend"-freynder and Patrick "Netfilter" McHardy can do this.

Will it be easy? Certainly not.

Will they need a helping and or two? You bet!

But Darkcoin will survive!

Yep community here is second to none, brilliant. I added some more today as well, I think this is the "new" bottom...

Likewise.  I spent literally the last of my investable cash on DRK yesterday.  Lets see what this baby can do.

I just added 20btc worth of DRK to my position.  This is the first Darkcoin purchase I have made in a LONG time.  I am still very bothered by the centralized reference node Darkcoin employs and hope that removing it becomes a priority.  In my opinion, Darkcoin is vulnerable in its dominant position as the king of anonymity until that happens.  All it will take is one top tier dev who sees the chink in Darkcoin's armor and doesn't fucking disappear Wink

Once the reference node issue is finally resolved, I suspect we'll be seeing ATH's for Darkcoin.

I agree that the ref node has to go and I believe that it is seen as a high priority for the dev team.

However, why does everybody get so freaked out by it?  Its a temporary and elegant solution to a problem.  Without it, we'd just go back to variance in masternode payments.

I stand to be corrected but it is not an attack vector for the network.

I agree, it literally poses no risk to any part of the system.

Let's say you roll out an update and enforcement is off.  The next day, god forbid, you get hit by a bus before you turn enforcement on.  What then?

We saw what bad actor pools do when enforcement is not on.  It's not variance as stonehedge alludes; it is theft.

The beauty of bitcoin is it doesn't need a single person to flip a switch for it to work properly.  At present, Darkcoin does.

That's a risk to the entire masternode system and as such, a risk to the entire Darkcoin network.  And a potentially catastrophic one at that.

Evan isn't a single point of failure.

I'm on shaky ground here but I think the reference node was created to solve masternode payment variance...not be a method of enforcing payments.

Don't know a lot about the guy, just curious if anyone knows.

~BCX~

He contributed a bit to darkcoin I heard, might be a developer of that instamine shit I think.

Looks pretty much exactly what you could expect!

Payments on my nodes seem to be running like clockwork too.
1832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DRK vs XMR warez on: February 23, 2015, 01:01:21 PM
One thing that I've noticed is that the instamine seems to actually have turned out to be a good thing for DRK(in the short term at least) as it clearly gives Evan Duffield a massive incentive to continue to develop and foster growth. Also it enables funding to further the project and it seems that DRK has been pretty consistent with development. Personally I completely dismissed DRK at some point last year and I'm surprised to see that it's continued to do fairly well. But it makes sense because the incentives are aligned with continued development. Long term though single individuals holding so much supply can be dangerous. Even Bitcoin has this same issue though with Satoshi.

Contrast this to XMR where developer funding is a big problem. The XMR devs have put a very large amount of their own money in to paying for research and code reviews and such. And from what I've read the entire team holds less than 80k XMR between them(7 people?). This has been used as a selling point by some people in the XMR community as evidence of a fair distribution, which it seems to be. But fair in the short term doesn't necessarily equate to a situation where those who have the ability to produce the most value actually have the resources to do so. So we get to see the trade offs here between two currencies with similar goals.

edit: that 80k XMR number is probably way out date and doesn't consider the likelyhood that they've all bought more since the price has come down quite a bit.
any coin that begs for money for the developer is a shitcoin.
Satoshi never did and I hold all developers to that standard.
Don't develop it than if you can't handle not getting handouts back from it.

"handouts" from performing skilled labour? That's a first.

Instamine talk is just too tiring.  Coins were distributed.  Many went to a dev who is no longer part of the team and sold up in the early days.  The rest were sold on open market.  I personally believe that Evan's DRK coins were mostly purchased.  I base this theory on the fact that Evan has been known to reach out to known whales to purchase large amounts of DRK for himself and family members.

Dark about 55% down from the intraday high we hit recently, techincally this should be where we start to see the uptrend resume IMO...

Looks like someone else is thinking the same...
Yes... I love the new owners at this levels. Eleven days of correction, I think is enough! Grin

I think we will start to move away from our gradual correction in the next few days.

*I base this on nothing other than a toss of a coin, my limited chart analysis and which way the wind is blowing.
1835  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: This thread is for DRK bagholders - bump on 2/25/15 - share your broken dreams on: February 23, 2015, 09:06:22 AM
Wait for the new X 11 ASCIS kicking darkcoins butt. After that pumpers will end up in tears when masternodes start to dump all their coins.

Why would ASIC be a bad thing for Darkcoin? The original vision of the DRK dev was that first it would be CPU mined, then GPU, and finally ASIC.

A bunch of crooks and scammers operating on this coin it is hard to figure at times who is the worst. (is there a competition happen)

The original claim from the DRK dev was that it is ASIC resistant. As late as june he was claiming it to be, he know very well that it is not. Just like it is not the first anonymous coin, as fraudulently claimed.

ASIC resistant does not mean ASIC proof.  DRK dev has acknowledged ASICs will be viable and in use in the future since day one.

The creator of SPR noticed a few holes in DRK and created a new coin. It's called Spreadcoin. It will not be long before InstantX and a masternodes program hit the mainnet. I would look into it and consider buying in now before everything hits mainnet.

Has your developer turned up yet?  I thought he went missing for four days during the middle of testing.
