This doesn't hang together for me. Why have a paid PR campaign but then publish the full details on a web forum days/weeks before the fact? Also, is it it just me, or does that post just read like a load of bollocks? I don't want to sound like a troll here but what exactly are they saying they have achieved?

For fcks sake. Whoever it was up thread who said that bitcoin payments were instant anyway was so full of shit.
I've been waiting 20 minutes for 1 confirmation of a BTC transaction. Its like watching paint dry.
To be fair, he didn't say that they were instant, just that for a small purchase it didn't matter because merchants could afford not to wait for confirmations due to the low risk of somebody trying a double spend attack on small amounts. He is right that for most of the small things it doesn't make sense to wait, but it is undeniable that having instant transactions is way better than not having them! At this moment people don't do double spend attacks to avoid paying for coffee, but if somehow it became easier to do them (maybe a new wallet designed for that? I'm no expert, just a quick thought, the ease of attacking could come from many places) then it would break many things apart. You're right. My mistake. Half an hour on one of these BTC transactions and I'm still waiting for 1 confirmation though! I've made quite a few DRK payments today and have noticed that 6 confirmations seems to be happening a bit quicker than it recently used to. I wonder if more people have wallets open now days? I can't wait to see Evan's white-paper.

I can hear the rumble of trolls approaching.

This is stupendous news. I'm still focussing on RC5 though. I wonder what the network hashrate will look like in 24 hours? My bet some more people will be mining DRK

Evan is William Wallace of Cryptocurrency world.
Lets hope things work out better for Evan than for Wallace eh? Following the trial, on 23 August 1305, Wallace was taken from the hall to the Tower of London, then stripped naked and dragged through the city at the heels of a horse to the Elms at Smithfield.[26] He was hanged, drawn and quartered — strangled by hanging, but released while he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burnt before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. His preserved head (dipped in tar) was placed on a pike atop London Bridge. It was later joined by the heads of the brothers, John and Simon Fraser. His limbs were displayed, separately, in Newcastle upon Tyne, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Stirling, and Perth. Geez.... Apart from that his death was unremarkable in that the regular procedure of cutting off of the testicles and feeding them to a rat whilst the still alive executee looks on was dispensed with on this occasion as it was noted his genitals had been accidentally ripped off during the naked dragging sequence. Witnesses and attendees complained "here...I not got wot I came for....I's told I's ged to see rats eatin his balls and I aint even seen his balls or nuffin..." so all-in-all it barely rated a mention with the locals of the time.... There are many reasons why some Scots hate the English and some of them are extremely valid. Anyway...Darkcoin! Any bets on how Evan plans to implement instant payment? I wonder whether it will drive up load and/or resource util on the masternode network?

9/14 8:51 pm <evan82> I just solved one of the largest problems facing Bitcoin. Instant transactions. I know how to do it... 9/14 8:52 pm <evan82> It'll be compatible with Darksend too. So we'll have anonymous instant transactions. 9/14 8:52 pm <evan82> Oh and there will be no bloat, that is the problem with POS. I bet we can get a confirmation within 10-20 seconds in most cases. 9/14 8:52 pm <evan82> It also fixes the finney attack, which is another huge problem for bitcoin 9/14 8:56 pm <eth2> =) thats some good news 9/14 8:56 pm <eth2> lemme know when you need testers 9/14 8:57 pm <evan82> Yeah, I'm obviously pretty excited about it. I just had a eureka moment 9/14 8:58 pm <evan82> It's simple, elegant, instant and will cost a ton of money to subvert. Perfect 9/14 8:59 pm <eth2> does that have any technical implication on how transactions are processed and blocks? 9/14 8:59 pm <eth2> from a pool standpoint 9/14 8:59 pm <evan82> nope. 9/14 8:59 pm <evan82> It's not even a hard fork [...] 9/14 9:25 pm <moli> interesting.. https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/4942/what-is-a-finney-attack9/14 9:27 pm <evan82> It could possibly stop a finney attack. It's funny you post that, it's what I'm thinking about righ now 9/14 9:27 pm <evan82> right* 9/14 9:28 pm <evan82> It can definitely stop all other double spends, but finney attacks require the client to reject blocks. WHOWWWW this is great !! now we just need an official statement from Evan to make this Public for real !!!! Yes, it's real and the solution is really cool I'll be publishing a paper soon to explain all of the details. You've made me a very happy and intrigued chap. Nice work Evan. Roll on RC5 and RC6!

Once Evan opensources and we get a stable release the push for adoption can begin in earnest. I dont see why the price should move much at this juncture as most of the people who believe in DRK have already gone in to the full extent that they are willing to at this point, most of the volume right now is daytraders and bots trying to squeeze profit from the markets. It is only with realworld adoption and commercial usage of DRK that will see sustained increases in demand.
Precisely. But a little publicity along the way wouldn't do any harm. Positive or negative. Terzo, are you ok? Do you need medical assistance? You just keep posting "This user is currently ignored" over and over again. Why don't we crowdfund the development? It shouldn't be a great burden for such a big community as ours. That should accelerate the development process and add some motivation to the devs. The only thing that leaves a bad taste in my mouth about the dev team is that not all of them are big bag holders. They do what they do because the believe in the future of the coin. We are talking a serious number of voluntary hours donated to the cause. I don't think crowdfunding the team would work though. Or at least I'm not sure how it would work. I think it would work. The problem is to make people to donate. By setting up a fund we could put a dev or two on a payroll. Having received the salary for their work they'd feel obliged to deliver on a deadline the community sets for them. I don't think the dev team owe us hard deadlines, paid or not. We just want a solid release and a heads up when it will be released.

Crypto is bleeding money, and not that much fresh money are flowing in.. I dont know what to believe longer actually.
DRK is a great coin with a great dev but hardly any good news seem to be able to get this train to start moving again :/
What we need is the tabloid press to get their knickers in a twist over possible nefarious use of DRK. It was the media exposure about money laundering, weapons and drugs that partly helped raise awareness of BTC in the early days.

3 MN's for sale on Mintpal what are they thinking ? I really do not get it ??
::Looks in bank account and makes sad face::

The masternode payment rate has gone up ever so slightly despite the increase in masternodes.
I wonder if this points to an increase in DRK mining?
|
|
|
what's in rc5? ip obfuscation? masternode voting fix? looks like a new darksend round progress meter and some other minor bug fixes and hardening.
Others will be able to fill you in further but the biggest thing I have noticed in the limited amount of testing that I have had time to do is a speed up in the denomination and anonymisation process.

Coins101, I just sold a watch to fund another masternode. I am bereft. I thought you'd understand. Any comforting words?
