2703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain E3 Ethash Miner ASIC (Shipping:16-31 July. $800 USD) on: April 06, 2018, 11:50:27 PM
With current difficulty, this Bitmain Garbage can only mine for a round $4 a day. Imagine all the batches are come a live and then difficulty sky rocketed way higher.
Both this ASIC miner and GPU have to say good bye to ETH.
Btw, are you sure that this is the best Bitmain can do? I somehow have intuition that they have more powerful hashing board to mine ETH under their wrap still. Way more powerful that this garbage.

This garbage has officially killed ETH gpu mining for now. Until ETh dev comes up with something or AMD or Nvidia develops a new gpu specifically designed for mining.
This garbage is still very low cost and very scalable. Good for mining farms. So it will increase difficulty on all the coins as big gpu farms will switch coins.

This wont kill eth mining anytime soon. These are not A3's/D3's etc. Anyone worried about these has no sense of the magnitude of Ethereum's current hashrate.

Its currently at 270 TERAHASHES. Thats NINE MILLION 570's/580's

In order to double the hashrate, bitmain would have to make and sell 1.5 MILLION E3's. At most these batches have 10-20 thousand units, which wont even make a dent in the hashrate. To put things in perspective, Litecoin's entire hashrate is made up of a couple hundred thousand L3+'s and some of that hashrate is shared by innosilicon and BW.

The only reason A3's and D3's killed GPU mining is because they were orders of magnitude faster and more efficient than the GPUs they replaced. E3's are exactly the same speed and efficiency as GPUs, they only advantage they have is that they cost less than current GPUs, and Bitmain does not have to be at the mercy of getting GPU packages from AMD/NVIDIA( and thats about the only advantage an ethereum ASIC can have, maybe slightly higher effenciey if they go full custom cores which they wont since eth will go POS before then).

Lets all calm down Cheesy

This.

Only reason I'm not buying one right now is the fact that ETH or ETC may hard fork to invalidate it. That uncertainty is certainly hurting sales of this device.

Well, I'm likely NOT to get one either...but the founder of Ethereum..is not behind a fork in the coin, seems to me that if any kind of pressure on this is of note

https://www.coindesk.com/no-action-vitalik-opposes-plan-disable-ethereum-asics/

...the devs will simply go to POS coin under metropolis (or whatever the next upgrade is) anyway...

So it is more likely, you could PROBABLY mine this unit for say 5 months or so at worst or more..before such would happen (either fork or going pos coin)

indeed a case could be made that with ASIC's out and GPU miners seeing the end, the devs would face LESS hassle going the POS route in this manner

anyway, my take, not that I know much about this

Fujicoin does not plan to move to POS.
We believe in the bright future of Bitcoin. So we will follow after Bitcoin.
Fujicoin's POW algorithm is Script-N11 (iteration = 2048). We will not change this algorithm either.

Good to know....I will attempt to find the link with the FUD you we're going POS Coin.

but still POW?

it is POW now...I heard a rumor it was gonna go POS in a couple months...

is this coin going POS coin in a few months?

President Trump has instructed the United States Trade Representative to consider $100 billion of additional tariffs on China.

I like this trading war between China and Uncle Sam, who got the bigger balls and who will bow in the end Smiley

Considering the enormous trade deficit the US has with China ($375 Billion), China has a lot more to lose from a trade war. But will they be able to surrender and still save face?

China is NOT a capitalist country...thus they will ride this down MUCH farther than we can, IMHO, we have lots of 'fat cat' capitalists that will force our gov't to buckle first...

In China....capitalism is used to unite the communist vision of how the world should work ..it is a tool..in the western world..capitalism is the vision...trade is the tool...

(anyway, in my feeble mind...the totalitarian regime, is more worried about power than $$$..thus they will last this out longer...again just in my view..not that I know squat)

Can we stop pretending three months of crash is somehow tied to tax deadlines?

It would be great.

We are all gonna die. Really.

That is 'oddly' comforting.....no matter what happens to crypto boom bust to tulips or whatever

'We are all gonna die. Really'

Puts all this boom or bust crypto 'angst' in perspective...

(sh*t....I got to get out of this chair and typing on bitcointalk and start running regularly, to postpone that outcome asap....) Sad

Garlicoin is amazing and I like the main idea of this project  because it can be very progressive and useful in every country! I think  Garlicoin have awesome future and great team will lead this project to success !!

Garlicoin's only angle is "we have a 'cute name' and are a 'meme' coin...so we will succeed, no further develoment needed....er also 'we're bad' on the whole AMD cards not working..but

Nividia cards working really well.... wizard's that we are...we have no time to take care of such details.....(don't look behind the curtain)

2710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: April 05, 2018, 09:30:04 PM
So is Sia-Tech still saying around the 1st of June 2018, for the miners to ship? Or has anything changed?

trying to stay more in the loop! (I've 5 of these 'hopefully not' doorstops in the wind) Sad

brad

The last that I read a couple of days ago, the chips manufacturer have sent them already the chips. They are functional (that's good) but they are still testing their final specifications. I am guessing they will publish an update soon. But considering there is an arms race between Obelisk and Bitmain, I won't be surprised if they decide to hide the final shipping date and specifications until the very moment they start shipping to keep the strategic advantage over Bitmain (I am sure they in turn have a "A3+" model on works aimed just to damage Obelisk)

If you want to stay in the loop I would recommend you joining the Discord of Obelisk: https://discord.gg/zt9JznT  Wink

No time..I'm 'obsessing' over my crypto hoards drop in value from $18k BTC...it is all encompassing my life Sad

I wish they would JUST fork ...if siacoin is MAINLY to be used by Sia-Tech for the network anyway...it would be a fine 'slap down' of Bitmain games...but then again....Sia-Tech

has the money for the obelisk units already...so they probably 'don't care' if Bitmain units are the main source of their network...so it is not a big deal to them, about their

own units being doorstops (I have 5 obelisk sc1's in the wind) ..thus the main thing I need to remember is for "doorstop use' keep them unopened in the box...they slide

easier...left in the cardboard box...

So yeah, pretty much doomed, by June of these Obelisk's being worth anything...as an example note the D3 units (x11 coin) are selling for $311 on the Bitmain site....IF you run

them at 10c kWh electric ..it is at a loss already...the next price they should go for is probably $180 on next go around... the same price will likely be at around JUNE for the

blake2b units by bitmain.

I suspect the sia-coin A3 will be going for around 550 usd on the next go around  and again by June....figure 300 bucks.....also likely delivered the 'next week' ..so that is a 2 month

advantage in these blake2b units and 2k savings compared to the

obelisks...arriving around June 1st 2018...so that boat sunk...IMHO...(with no fork that is..bitmain wins...sia-tech is ..meh! did not hurt us any...the rest of us 'screwed" for beliving

in Sia-Tech concept and getting their ASIC's back in the day Sad

Anyway, without a fork of siacoin...this is how it is gonna play out IMHO, Bitmain has 'too much manufacturing' ability for it to be otherwise..they will run their blake2b units like

'toasters' and again I figure the price by June first will be equivalent to the x11 D3 doorstop they sell...the bitmain blake2b units will be also around $311 by June 1st 2018 and

the 'supposed' shipping for the Obelisk Sc-1 units.

so yeah, IMHO, a fork would be our only chance to even 'approach' breaking even on Obelisk SC-1 units..

live an learn..chump or champ....crypto always drama

2711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain E3 Ethash Miner ASIC (Shipping:16-31 July. $800 USD) on: April 05, 2018, 09:21:59 PM
It seems like these new E3 can be upgraded once ETH will fork and still mine it. I heard this from "insiders"..

Can you provide more information? Is it using and FPGA versus ASIC? Is it really GPU cores inside?

How exactly could they upgrade it after the fact?

If you look at their main site they have AI research chip, could be that the chips in E3 are modified version of these chips. Also they promise better speed when the units start to ship, firmware upgrade???

This is just typical Bitmain smoke and mirrors. They cannot be trusted for anything. By the time they ship I hope all the ETH coins have forked to a totally new algo and make this trash worthless!!!

won't matter to Bitmain these are PRE-ORDERS for what end of July 2018 was it? So you see, they have your coin...it forks and ETH goes POS coin and Bitmain still wins!

(Bitmain: professional evil....professionally done...we do evil well!) (tm: Bitmain)

2713  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 04, 2018, 11:29:11 PM
It seems that the big whales are spending their last BTC reserves with the hope some FUD/news will help them to lower the price before the next bull rally. They are biting their nails nervously in the fear someone else will overtake them at the start of the race. At the same time the bulls are patiently waiting and probing with some bull traps whether the bear reserves are drained. If there is no bad news (China, Korea, etc.) in the coming days, I expect a strong bull run to 12K in 2-3 weeks. If we break that resistance, the next is 15K. The last, and the toughest is 17K, but it seems too far to think about it now  Grin

Damn I hope you are correct...but IF new followers of crypto and BTC are needed in mass to pull this off..I'm uncertain...price could go sideways for months....also the FUD may be

coordinated in the sense as soon as the price of BTC goes up the 'knives come out' and as soon as it pumps...it is simply a bubble...

I am seeing a lot of FUD and angst among the various governments and banks and powers that be..it all comes down on IF HODL'ers like ME ...bail or not on BTC

as they say, it is likely to get worse before it gets better (4k btc at the real bottom say)

anyway, crypto allowed me to retire 3 years early, so if I have to spend it all and the price is driven down to say no more or less than $300 per BTC, I"m golden on my 'not taking

any traditional assets and health insurance dollars out until I"m 65 plan"...(don't really even have to do this..just seemed prudent) ...but it is a goal...so hell, might as well man up and follo

this to the end of the trail...

be it the moon or doom...for crypto and my BTC and alt stashes.....anyway, my logic may be flawed...but will go down HODL'ing....(or as much as I can pull off with above)

I can also confirm the E3 is still up for purchase as of 4:18PM EST. Seems like the E3 has been going in and out of stock recently for whatever reason. They likely don't have many left, or Bitmain are increasing available stock for E3 on their website.

Debating getting one ...but then again my fuzzy math (a bit over) 50% to IRS anyway and 25% equip deduction in real cash applied to this years taxes (which I will have more

then enough for)

the risk is $225 above electric per unit....and they make what $4 a day maybe...sheesh..this is depressing..

so again my risk with my 'usual' set aside for the tax man... of 50% to the IRS and the state tax man (again a bit high with a 'cush') ..and that 25% equipment deduction

tempting price for a 'doorstop'...at again my tax angles and equip depreciation and of course the fact I'm mining more than a 2 dozen asic's (of many flavors)

as to newbies WITHOUT any large mining (my boat) or etc....my risk is like (with shipping/fees/etc) about 3 out of 4 it WILL work...your risk with REAL from the Job Income

and NO mining income to offset and IF you make enough for the 25% off taxes paid...is around 3 out of 4 of NOT working out...

also, this will only work for me at a certain level of mining income (which this year I've passed already...and of course crypto dumps and/for my capital gains etc)...

IF mining goes bye bye...my angles go away too...(back to hobby mining and heating the basement next winter)

thus I"M NOT SURE if it is worth getting for me!!...so only spend what you can afford....and keep that in mind when you read my posts on equipment

you reach a certain level of equipment and 'being stupid' has fewer consequences...then when I had 2 ASIC's in the basement...

anyway, still on the fence...likely they will be sold out by the time I get over pondering this...

stalling as a strategy can also be considered a 'wise' long-term strategy....but damn, hedging on what the heck prices for crypto are going to be ...is daunting...lately

Fuck my life right...

If we dont stop soon, my L3+ is in the reds not even 12 months after buying lol

Cant imagine how D3 owners must feel right now

Thats not bad actually haha, asics are eventual doorstops and technology speeds faster and faster.  Its not if they will be obsolete its only when.

always keep the 'box' they work better as doorstops if you leave them in the cardboard box....(they slide easier)

(hey...don't throw stuff at me in bitcointalk!)

2719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain E3 Ethash Miner ASIC (Shipping:16-31 July. $800 USD) on: April 04, 2018, 05:33:33 PM

It is all a gamble on any asic equip now...last I looked a E3 did what 3.75 per day?

(could be wrong..trying to remember)

an L3+ (scrypt-pow) does 3.00 a day or some such

thus why NEW products like the E3 are being dumped (yesterday limit of 1) at $855

and today (limit of 5) at 800 (ship middle of JULY 2018)

so pick your poison...

price is droping on all alts and btc and to make it worse we have a GLUT of many ASICs of many flavors (blake2b, scrypt-pow, sha-256, x11, Eth, monero stuff) etc etc

tough times to be a newbie (w/o equip deductions on use of mining previous) ...yech.....being a newbie today would suck big time for that reason alone on looking at risk

on this stuff

anyway, IMHO...we may be looking at 'sideways' in price at best or a dump to 4k or a pump to 9k ....place your bets!
