281  Other / Meta / Re: Can Merits be Deleted if the Merited Post is Removed in a Self-Moderated Thread? on: March 14, 2024, 05:15:26 PM
I am curios to know if merits can be deleted. From this self moderated mega thread, the notice on it simply reads, "This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic. (170 posts by 1 users with 9 merit deleted.)" Does this sentence in any way implies that merits can be deleted if the post by a user is removed?

This confusion can be removed with a simple change of positioning of the words.

The sentence is now "170 posts by 1 users with 9 merit deleted." it can be changed to "170 posts with 9 merit by 1 users deleted."
Or, to make it more clear and easily understandable, it can be "170 posts by 1 users (with 9 merits) deleted."

There is one more thing that can be a good addition for better readability and correction. the word "users" should be written "user(s)" so that it can be read user if it's 1, and users if it's more than 1, that "s" in the parentheses is an optional letter that one can read when necessary or skip when it's not.

I hope this can be helpful to remove confusion such as this.
282  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't Fall Victim on: March 14, 2024, 04:47:57 PM
Just because a project is launching near the halving event isn't enough reason to call it fishy or a scam. What if it's a genuine project that has been planned this way and it's a requirement of their roadmap to launch the project during these times, what if they have planned to use this opportunity in their favour to attract more users and investors towards their project by launching it around the bull run and halving event?

I can't help but agree with that. It is no logic that a project launched around a bull run is a guaranteed scam and there can be other reasons for the team to launch it during these times. I also don't think a person should consider this point when checking the legitimacy of a cryptocurrency project whether to make an investment or to keep it in their watchlist.
283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 Years ago people laughed at me bcz of THIS on: March 13, 2024, 09:28:42 PM
In early days of Covid I wrote this: Everyone laughed at me  Btc was 3k$.

Look, I'm going to be honest with you, don't take this personally. I laughed a little bit after reading that post of yours from 2020.  Grin So, I don't blame people who did this back then because what you wrote there is about two barely correlated events and that logic of yours doesn't make much sense.

Now BTC is 73K and everyone understand Im right.

I don't think so.  Grin What does BTC going to $73k now have anything to do with what you said in 2020 about whales spreading COVID-19 and making people dump their Bitcoins and then the whales buying them back?  Tongue That story was done back then, so you are not making sense once again with what you are saying here.
284  Other / Meta / Re: Should speculation about satoshi's identity be subject to doxxing rules? on: March 12, 2024, 09:05:30 PM
Satoshi is more likely a public (but still unknown) figure, isn't he (or they)? Millions of people use Bitcoin, isn't it their right to know who created the coin that they use? I think there is a difference between collecting evidences about a regular user and about satoshi.
I think his identity will always be a subject and I think everyone has a legal right to know who is the original author, a real person who created the product that they use. So, satoshi might be an exception in this case not only on Bitcointalk but everywhere.

He is a public figure who decided to stay anonymous for reasons best known to himself but should be respected by everyone. So I don't think that him being or becoming a public figure gives everyone the right to try and find his identity when it was his choice for things to be this way.
285  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Quickest way to earn merit? on: March 12, 2024, 06:48:06 PM
As a newbie, do everything possible to be more active in the forum which is one of the things that is opening the eyes of newbies to see things they have never see before in different discussion section and, it will make them to remain in quality post through out their staying in this forum.

It's about learning and growing and not just being active. You will find a lot of people who are active in the forum but they barely post anything constructive which is evident that they aren't here to learn and grow but the fundamental reason for them to join this forum is something else.

Jis tarha k Pakistan k halat chal rhe hain mujhe nai lagta k koi bhi ziada se ziada hold kar saka hoga. Mehngai hai k thamne ka naam hi nai le rhi, roz ba roz cheezon ke keemton men mazeed izafa horha hai. Hum jaise log jo lakhon men nai kamate mushkil se hi aesi opportunities ko cash kar paate hain, baqi baat aapki theek hai k agar kisi k pas job achi ho aur uske sath sath agr wo signature campaigns ya kahin aur se extra earning kr rha hai toh wo hold kr skta hai.
Aur, abi toh shorowat hai, is bull run men Bitcoin ne $100k touch krna hai for sure, aur ab jab k previous all-time high halving event se pehle hi touch kr gaya, ab $100k tak jane k chances ziada hogae hain.  Smiley

Are you hiring as well? If you are, are there any positions open for content writers and community moderators?
289  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 06, 2024, 04:19:26 AM
And one thing I observed is that the moderator need to allocate more merit sources because there is need for that so that those good quality posts can be merited to establish circulation of merits to those that really deserve it with quality posts.

There are enough merit sources and merits in circulation for a fair distribution of merit. More merits in circulation would mean more merits in the hands of merit abusers which isn't something we would want to see happening around, do we?

291  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: March 04, 2024, 05:49:08 PM
Rank restrictions won't stop them as there are hacked and sold accounts too. Well, I can only see and a solution (maybe) in this, just like what i always do when reporting is to report the thread then mention that the user is spamming the other boards too, so suggesting to see it's profile for mass report will do.

In cases like the one I have found and mentioned here, they don't use hacked or sold accounts because they know this is going to make those accounts useless as they will either be banned or negatively tagged for spamming. They create new accounts and create their promotional threads with them, this is why I suggested that. And reporting profiles don't work because of the same reason, they barely create more than one thread with one account.

The fact that anyone with any email address can create an account and start creating threads in the forum works in their benefit.
292  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: March 04, 2024, 02:56:58 PM
The only downside for this is some of the innocent users like replying/quoting or making report post will get affected. But if this can be enabled and disabled like if there are many reports that has the same contents, then it could be enabled to auto-delete once post with such keywords detected.

It wouldn't affect innocent users if restrictions were imposed on users below Jr. member rank for posting new topics with the filtered keyword. It shouldn't affect responses or replies from users in any section or even in that specific section.
293  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: March 02, 2024, 12:50:24 PM
On one hand we definitely could get rid of the people who spam and push SEO strategies like that in here, cause it's not gonna work unless we interact with them, deeming these tactics useless and forcing these fucking clowns to look for other ways to actually gather their new audiences, perhaps even better and more natural ways if I do say so myself.

The question is; do they stop if they are given no attention? No, they don't, and it's not a single user creating multiple threads but it's a bunch of new accounts being created and then with those accounts, creating new threads throughout the day covering the whole section with their forced advertisements. That's why I thought a restriction or something could help reduce that spam.

On the other hand however, people easily overlooking these exploitative parts of the spectrum in favor of their peace of mind may put the whole forum in Jeopardy for the newbie audiences. Cause more people not seeing these kinds of posts would mean less reports about them coming into the Mods' radars, when that happens these posts can stay for longer and might victimize those that aren't really savvy with how the forum works or how the crypto industry operates.

That could be a part of the problem because as you mentioned, newbies in the industry and the forum don't always have their concepts clear for a lot of things. They can easily become victims of scams in case the projects being promoted are scams which is probably the case because a proper project would have a budget for marketing purposes as well.
294  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stake; one couple two accounts illegal? on: March 02, 2024, 11:23:31 AM
Was it illegal to open two accounts between me and my husband?

It's against their TOS most probably, because how would they know whether it's different people creating those accounts if IP address is the same?  Roll Eyes

I will provide all the documents required but I would like to know first if what we did was prohibited or not.

What you did is prohibited in every platform, you can't create multiple accounts using the same IP address, if you do, you will either get banned or restricted and then asked for identity verification.

Maybe its time for the bounty managers to level up their rules on participants, because you cant expect something much from a user who has been always running after bounties and shillings without having any merit in the last 150 days, or maybe some of these their campaigns should start accepting only members from full member upwards, most of these newbies accounts were just only created for these purpose.

I don't see a link between these shilling accounts and posts with bounty or signature campaigns, you probably didn't understand the context of all this because it's not about users spamming for post counts and signature earnings but it's about new accounts being created and topics started in large quantities to promote a certain project filling a specific board or section, in this case, Altcoin Discussion, with spam.
297  Other / Meta / Re: Hey Theymos, There Should Be a Demotion Button on: February 25, 2024, 04:58:34 PM
You may also bestow demotion powers to intelligent reputable members like LoyceV, Yahoo62278, Notatether, Moccaccino, Logfiles, Suchmoon and others.

That's a good way to try and stay in the good books of reputable members but I'm not sure if that would work, especially after what Poker Player have posted.  Tongue
298  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: February 25, 2024, 04:18:02 PM
I think that creating a keyword reporting option would introduce new problems for moderators and probably cause false positive reports. For example, what if someone creates a scam accusation against that project?

I was thinking about a section-specific thing like a ban or a restriction that could be implemented in certain sections to restrict users or maybe new users from creating new topics with the keyword that is banned or blacklisted.

Usually this crap happens in the ANN section (and it's probably still happening for all I know).

Spam events like this one are often carried out in the discussion sections. This is not the first time I've seen serial spamming like this where a bunch of new accounts keep creating new threads with different titles having the same keyword and slightly different content in the OP shilling for their shit projects. These are either paid activities or are carried out by the project members themselves, however, it's pretty frustrating to see.

You can always count on LoyceV to knock those bitches out of the park.  He is truly a Merit Cycling Club member worth his weight in gold.

Thanks to him, most of the topics were reported and deleted and their creators were banned very quickly. I reported a bunch myself from LoyceV's spam filter from his website that he mentioned above, most of them were already reported when I started checking.

Keyword bans can be implemented by the admin AFAIK, and they are only done in really necessary situations and not just used when a new spam pops up from a couple of newbies. They also have to be done very specifically so other unsuspecting users are not affected.

I know, I didn't mean a keyword ban to be implemented throughout the forum, but only in the section where the spam is currently going on, maybe make it a restriction type of a thing where accounts below Member cannot create a new thread/topic with that specific keyword.

it's definitely very different and I understand your plea but enhhh-  is it enough to convince Theymos on creating something like this? He's got so many pending requests and my deep fear isn't even about him responding on time to insurgencies like this; now my big fear is about how he'll handle this minute issue should it begin to strike even bigger...

I don't know, but all I know is that a filter sort of thing could be helpful for mods if he implements it. He should add a feature for mods to be able to add keywords in a filter that wouldn't allow accounts below a certain rank to do specific things like creating new topics, etc.
If mods could add such a filter in Altcoin Discussion where they would add "Magic Square" in the list of keywords after which accounts below Member rank couldn't create new topics with this keyword either in the title or body of the topic, the spam could have stopped without any problem. And of course, the filters could be reset anytime by the mods.
299  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: February 24, 2024, 06:23:01 PM
I receive many notifications on Telegram almost all notifications are magic square and they keep promoting their project with newly created accounts.
I think if you can see this thread for now what you can only do is report it.
However, I hope that mods will make some solution to this because almost all notifications that I received are related to this project. Banning magic or SQR is a smart idea but I do not know if mods have tools to ban these keywords maybe the admin can do that.

It's extremely frustrating when you visit a certain section and see a bunch of new accounts spamming a project and every other title contains the same keyword, the content of the topics might be different but the purpose is the same.

OP, can I leave it to you to report the other spammers?

Yes, I will report all that I can find. Thank you for adding the keyword.
300  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: February 24, 2024, 05:50:18 PM
The keyword report will be a good one to make, but it might also be misused since there are some commonly used words and phrases here on the forum. If such a word happens to be the keyword for the report, you might also end up reporting a thread that has good value to share with the community.

I don’t understand what you mean by a keyword ban like a ban placed on a particular word for some minutes before they are released? I don’t think that’s right, what if other members wants to use that same word in another discussion? Wouldn’t that hindered the decentralization of this forum?

A keyword ban can be placed only for keywords that are being used in that specific section for spamming projects such as the instance we are seeing here, it shouldn't be a common keyword that any user might use and mods can evaluate the spamming before they place the ban in place, and the reports should provide a suggestion to mods that they can use for their evaluation process.

You can report one of the thread and mention the right description will get the account to be nuked which will delete all the posts the user made including topics, so instead of reporting every thread, you can just report one that can be effective.

They create every other topic with a different user account, so this isn't effective in this case.

If they continue to spam, it will actually reduce the credibility of their platform because of bad marketing patterns, no one likes spam and no one likes platforms that are promoted using spam methods.

It's not about their project getting attention, it's about not allowing them to misuse the ability to create new topics without restriction.
