2801  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Im new, but best way to get started... on: December 11, 2014, 08:19:38 PM
I'm new to mining and have been reading for about a month on this topic. Really interested, want to get started. I have access to start up capitol as well.

What do you recommend I do to get started?

Are you trying to see a ROI from mining?  If so, do not mine.

Spoodilies, Rockminer or Bitmain are the best companies.

DO
NOT
BUY
PRE-ORDER

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF BABY JESUS DO NOT BUY PRE-ORDER.
2802  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Custom Rigs... Hardware on: December 11, 2014, 08:14:16 PM
No mining hardware at this stage is going to recoup it's investment. We're looking at a semi-flat growth period until 16nm is released and once 16nm is out there will be another difficulty climb. Once the 16nm difficulty climb starts your existing hardware will be worthless.

and, Unless you're paying less than like 0.08 or 0.09 per KWH USD it's cheaper to pay someone else to host them. I expect hosting prices to drop further to an average of around 0.05-0.06 per KWH. That is, companies offering hosting for those rates.

Your money is better invested elsewhere. If you're looking for ideas, feel free to send me a PM.

I agree with this, I would only mine as a hobby if I was you.. That is what I do.

I'd consider putting a buy up at $300 USD it would seem we will touch that again.
2803  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: bitmain s3 serial connect? on: December 11, 2014, 08:08:40 PM
I have a serial to USB adaptor for work.. I do not see where the serial port is on the controller.....

Future shop should have a serial to USB but... never seen a serial connection.. but I also never taken it out of the enclosure..  Even on my S1 I did not notice a serial port but I wasn't looking.  I can take a gander.
2804  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Miner for beginner on: December 11, 2014, 08:02:50 PM
I am looking for a miner for my husband for Christmas. He is very curious to see how the process works. He really isn't concerned about making any money. I was thinking about spending about $100. Thoughts?

Kijiji "Bitcoin Miner"

Find an S1 from Bitmain.  Should be $60 max perhasp $80 if they include the Power supply.

Very easy to set-up many youtube videos on how to do it.

Any decent Bitcoin mining company that sells ASIC's(what is required to mine now adays, Application specific intragerated circuit)  only accepts BTC except for spoodilies and their miners are not cheap.  Good but expensive.

Again I highly highly higly recommend kijiji.

I am 100% against the idea of cloud mining or attempting to use a GPU.  The GPU you might not even get hashing fast enought to show up on the pool thus zero payout thus learn nothing.  THe cloud mining you don't get to get your hands on anything which seems is what he wants.  I also have yet to see any sort of payout for my cloud mining adventures.
2805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: can I do any mining with this set up? on: December 11, 2014, 07:59:57 PM
Ok I apologise for posting this in two different forums bit it seemed to fit in two different catagories.

Ive built my gaming rig and its great for whatt i use it for. Its a great gaming machine, and i know that inherrintly means its not built to be a bitcoin miner. But im away from my system for a while at a time so I figured id look into doing something profitable inmy spare time. So heres my system specs I was wanting to know if i could be of any use and what sort of cut i could ecpect with my hardware.

Gigabyte board
Fx 6350 soon to be overclocked.  As high as my new cooler will allow.
gtx 780ti
8gb ram.
1000watt gold certified psu

Like I say I know its not an ideal machine but If I can be of any help? The electricity isnt costing me a dime atm so....... might as well

If you have free electricy.. try buying a "New-R-box" from rock miner and use your computer as the controller..?

Even doing that if you are looking to make money mining the odds are you will not.

If you really do have free power I would highly suggest looking up an S1 miner on Kijiji they are going for $50.. with free power you will probably see a return.  coinwarz.com  The S1 runs at 180Ghash/second.

If you are dead set on using your computer try Darkcoin or Primecoin.
2806  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin is collapsing! Sell your ASICs NOW while you still can! on: December 11, 2014, 07:49:40 PM
One should mine to support the security of the blockchain.  If you are here only for greed please see yourself out.
2807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 20 years later bitcoin and goverments on: December 11, 2014, 07:39:20 PM
It depends how far a country is willing to go, you will be surprised what can be achieved if you have enough power.

thepiratebay isn't fully decentralized and it has sustained numerous attacks from the most powerful countries with the greatest of motivations.
2 days ago one of their datacenters were raided illegally by bribed and corrupt agents and a day later mirror sites and cached versions were online and business as ussual.
additionally, this attack has spurred this -
http://venturebeat.com/2014/12/10/bittorrent-announces-project-maelstrom-the-first-torrent-based-browser/

Decentralized torrent browser.  Any attacks on Bitcoin will simply make it stronger and more resilient.

The attacks on TPB are nothing..  The gov will not lose it's power from TPB..  They will do everything and anything to keep their power.

I have warned you many times..  keep some bitcoin completely hidden from everyone.  Govs have many time in the past stolen the wealth of the public.  America has too, you are no different.  Be prepared.. war is on the horizen.. it could be avoided but it is doubtful.

Those in control would seem to follow the samson option before giving up their power...

This thread seems to be the only [sort of] active thread about Cryptsy.
That's why I decided to repost here my question about dividends for shareholders:
Will they ever be payed and if positive - when?

WTF.. what shareholders?
2809  Other / Off-topic / Re: cryptocurrency addiction on: December 11, 2014, 04:36:43 PM
Its not gambling when you're investing in freedom.

Dont ever forget, "Freedom is always a good bet."

Keep telling yourself that.

Bitcoin is a tool that enables ever greater degrees of freedom. Can you provide any evidence as to why its bad to invest in tools that allow exponential increases of freedom to exist?

Were automobiles a bad investment because they allowed you more freedom in travel?

Was it bad to invest in computer development in the 80s when no one could see a future for it besides for visionaries like steve jobs?

Bitcoin is so disruptive its going to set a new standard for disruptive technology. I feel bad for you that you don't understand the very basic fundamentals behind it.

This is not 100% correct... Govs could use Bitcoin to control a population like never seen before... since most people, 99% are sheep it would be easy to do.. :S.

Please do not feed the trolls.

I prefer just seeing, "NotLambchop: This user is currently ignored."

 Cheesy

This.  Even if we consider beanie babies as a legit form of currency they can be "printed" to infinity.  The argument they are both "rare" is like trying to say the USD is rare and will never go past X amount of USD in circulation.

If I told someone in the 20's a coffee would be worth $2 they would laugh in my face and say "never would that be possible I don't even earn that in a week".  Yet here we are...

Now a 1/100 oz of gold over the coarse of 100 years realtive to buying a coffee.. take a gander at that Wink.

2817  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Growth of Bitcoin Mining Network slows to 0.5% per day. on: December 10, 2014, 08:20:42 PM
This could be a good time to enter the mining game.

Wait for the Bitmain S5.
2818  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S5 Speculation on: December 10, 2014, 08:18:52 PM
me:

I have heard rumors related to Antminer S5
Will it be released this year or maybe next year ?
Thank you

BitmainTech reply:

Hi,
It'll be released soon, pay attention to our official announcement later.

Best Regards

BITMAIN

Perfect - a few S5s will make a great Christmas present to myself!

Exactly what I was thinking... Time to completely offload my S1's.  Although I will probably keep one for a peice of history for myself.
2819  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Need as much info as possible! on: December 10, 2014, 08:17:14 PM

2820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: man sentenced to 4 years for illegal bitcoin operation on: December 10, 2014, 07:29:54 PM
Deal in the FEDs market and they call up Merica to lay the Fing pwn down on you.

YOU WILL BE PUNISHED for competing with the USD, as I have warned many times before... the govs are just starting the war... it will get bad.. very bad.. you should have bitcoins competely offline that no one knows you own.  DO NOT PUT THEM IN A bank saftey box like a putz either, they will torture you to find out the passphrase.  No one can know about your stash.. not a soul.  Only put 10-20% of your holdings there.. the NSA knows you have bitcoins when they come for them "I have non" will land you waterboarded for months at utter best.

Lol. Your opinion has changed a lot in a few months:

Just popped in to say the UK is deeming bitcoin private money like the Germans.  I highly doubt we will see BTC banned in any legit democracy.

Nothing wrong with change ones opinion in light of new evidence.
