2101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed of BTC at gunpoint -- a real concern? on: June 11, 2015, 02:12:47 PM
I think not carrying a phone full of bitcoin goes along the same common sense line of not carrying a wallet full of cash.  I don't see how this is a story.  People get mugged all the time

I think he means that someone can break into your home and make you give him the bitcoins

DO not worry it is Illegal to have guns soo they won't.........

Illegal it is to have the means to defend yourself.. don't worry the cops might find him after figuring out how you were killed...
2102  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 + Laser cutter mods... on: June 11, 2015, 01:06:33 PM
I really like that clear case design!!

I like the S1 as the boards are open.  THe s3 is awesome and all but I like the rugged look of the S1.

LOL, perfect.
2104  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the blockchain become Too Big to Fail? on: June 10, 2015, 07:41:19 PM
NOTHING is too big to fail..

Perhaps to big to jail but never to big to fail.  One of the stupidest ideas of our "leaders".
2105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Encrypted wallet.dat, lost password, any solutions? on: June 10, 2015, 07:15:17 PM
Did the OP get his BTC back.. with a 50-100 BTC reward that must of been a large amount of BTC :S.
2106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin paper wallet safe to dump bitcoins ? on: June 10, 2015, 06:39:45 PM
Sweet thanks, I know a couple guys that might be able to help me.
2107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1992 on: June 10, 2015, 06:28:29 PM
I actually don't believe that bitcoin is going to gain widespread adoption. I don't expect everyone to get a wallet. At least, not in its current version. The majority of people don't want to know what finance is. They don't care how their bank account works so long as it does. They don't care how money gets from point A to point B so long as it does. Therefore, mass adoption will mean no one actually knows that they are relying on Bitcoin.

I think this is going to be the driver for Bitcoin if there ever is one.  Our current system is in crazy ass land..

.25% ?!? WTF..
2108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin paper wallet safe to dump bitcoins ? on: June 10, 2015, 06:26:05 PM
If you want to be very safe,
get a dedicated machine (old cheap laptop will do),
PERMANENTLY disable the internet (delete the wifi drivers),
and then use that machine to generate your addresses
and keys using physically generated entropy (physical dice or coins).

Attach a printer to it that has no access to the net and
never will be used for anything else.

and keys using physically generated entropy (physical dice or coins).

Can you explain this to me please?

In simple terms,  a private key is essentially just a 256 bit number.
So you can for example, flip a coin 256 times, and you'll get
a binary string "001110100101010001011100010  etc"
You would then convert that probably to WIF format, etc, and
input that into a program or script to get your address.

If you have a 16 sided die, you can roll it 64 times and
get a 256 bit number.

The point is, you're generating the raw entropy from an unhackable
source.

Do you have a scrypt/program I could see?

I have a feeling I am behind in the maths to understand it though.. I started following this one uni proof's youtube on encryption but only like 3 hours in so far...
2109  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Do AntMiners comply with FCC Part 15? on: June 10, 2015, 06:11:04 PM
Reviving this thread as I have just acquired a secondhand S3 that seems to produce a ton of RF interference.

No radio (by which I mean normal broadcast FM or DAB radio) will work at all within about 15 feet of the miner.  Unfortunately I haven't a lot of flexibility with siting it and so at the moment I can't use it at all.  Switch the miner on and about 5 seconds later the radio can't find a station (DAB) or just has static (FM).

I'm confident I've isolated it to the miner itself as the cause.

Anyone experienced this or got any ideas how to address it?

Put an Iron case around it..? hehe but really.

S3 from Kijiji should work great at that budget.

If you haven't got access to a clean offline pc you could try this lazier method:

Download Tail OS
Burn to DVD
Boot (offline) and generate new wallet in Electrum
Write down seed (or memorise it)
Wait for the moon.

PS: Has anyone here actually reviewed the html from bitaddress?

This is the flaw in my method, I have not.
2113  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Certified Bitcoin Professional on: June 10, 2015, 05:58:14 PM
I see theymos is offering a certification now:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=427201.0

I would suggest people seek legitimates certifications rather than buying one from theymos

http://www.digitalcurrencycouncil.com/ and https://cryptoconsortium.org/ offer legitimate certifications.

One should becareful about using the same name on comment sections and forums if they are looking to promote such a thing in these forums.

You've still offered no reason as to why the Fractional banking system is good for the average person.

I pointed out in a different comment section that you are a wing nut.  Anyone who doesn't agree with your fantasy agenda supports the fed, the government, the leviathan, or some other nonsense.  You are like the people who go around blaming either Obama or the Bush legacy for every problem on Earth and somehow you twist every story or comment into some discussion of how Bitcoin will solve all the world's problems.  The specific discussion you are referencing was about actual Bitcoin use cases and was completely irrelevant to your fantasy about Bitcoin being the singular world currency.  My education is in physics and computer science, not economics.  However, I know enough to know that you don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about.

Says the person that thinks they are more creditable then Themoys..

Furthermore all you have done is name call and name call.  You've never once commented on how fractional banking helps the average person.  How can you possibly deal with environmental issues when you lack the funds to do it.   Also assumptions.. Obama and Bush.. why the fuck do I care about America?  I never once mentioned Bitcoin should be the singular world currency again you are spinning BS using arguments that would get you kicked out of a debate.

You only attack the person not the point.
2114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin paper wallet safe to dump bitcoins ? on: June 10, 2015, 05:46:09 PM
I copy the bitaddress HTML to a CD.

RUn that CD on a harddrive that has never touched the web.

Create a "paper" wallet and encrypt it with a lengthy pass.

Print it to a PDF or TIF.

Burn the wallet to a CD.

Move the PDF to multiple USB's and CD's, physically print it.

DESTROY the harddrive I created it on.

You could also just the BTC core and create a wallet.dat file, encrypt it, but I do like the bitaddress.org setup for creating my offline wallets.

Create a few different wallets on that harddrive so I can store the BTC on several different wallets that have different passcodes.
Mainly so when I spend them I don't have to empty my entire stash and create a new wallet.

Sorry if I am coming off as a douche I just want everyone to be as secure as possible.  All for one, one for all.
2115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin paper wallet safe to dump bitcoins ? on: June 10, 2015, 05:32:36 PM
If BTC jumps up to +$100k.. how safe would you feel about your BTC?

How safe would you feel storing your bitcoin anywhere if it went to 100k each?
I'd probably do an OTC (over the counter trade) with a big bitcoin organisation.
I've read about people doing them with large amounts, no hassle, no risk of an exchange going bust whilst holding your coins.
They take 5% but you get it all in one big lump.
Ideal imo.

I will make no delay in exchanging my all bitcoins fund to hard cash , if I came to know that btc price jumps to $100k . But i don't think so it will be possible. From last 6 months, btc price is just below $300 .

Not really talking about possibilities, just security.  Sure you feel secure with $20 on a wallet but with $100k you start to really think about how secure it actually is.

Sweet mother of god have you guys ever read a news paper?

2117  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: where can i buy a Bitcoin miner on: June 10, 2015, 03:39:05 PM
OP you buy anything?

For a hobby miner rockminer.com the "new r-box" is PERFECT.  Only draws 110 watts.

For a little more beats mode:

Bitmain or spondoolies.

I have purchased from Rockminer twice, Bitmain 3 times.

Each time miners came with in a week, great condition.  My S3's have been mining straigh, no issues for over a year. (Buy an S3 from kijij is a smart move they are cheap now).

My "new r-box" has been running for over 6 months no issues, I use it to mine my fav altcoin to increase it's secuirty.

2120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin paper wallet safe to dump bitcoins ? on: June 10, 2015, 02:16:47 PM
Has anybody here ever had any trouble with a paper wallet? I mean I know high tech malware exists but has anybody ever had an issue?
Some people are overly paranoid, I mean what kind of sites are people visiting to be worrying about back door malware, what kind of files are these people downloading?
I just go online for basic stuff, I'm not a techie, I don't visit places where highly skilled hackers will be out to play.
I think if you create your paper wallets offline & clear your history you should be ok, run regular virus scans.
Don't go on Tor or visit any nerd internet forums/sites.
You should be safe.

It is my wealth bro..  why people just throw their wealth into something and give zero fucks about security blows my mind.

Should That proves my point.

You are on these forums..... your e-mail is known by parties that would look into taking your bitcoins.

Why not be paranoid..Huh  Really though.

Have I had an issue, no, have I head of them, yes.  Perhaps because I am so paranoid I've had no issues Wink.

Why are you using bitcoin if you have no desire to use it's security features properly?
