Maybe they're testing the forum software or their own code for bots. I don't know how many accounts the forum software can handle but his could be a kind of attack to slow down the forum software day by day... Or, they write a code to create accounts, they have to test if if it's working or not. Also they have to run a stress test, to be sure what is the maximum amount of bot accounts they are able to create when a customer asks, they should be able to give exact timing, like: we're creating you 2,000 fresh accounts in 3 hours time... just wondering... Maybe it's easier for the customers to just buy some already registered accounts instead of trying to register hundreds of them from the same IP (but if I remember well, recaptcha will stop them and their IP will be banned too if they want to register too many accounts). So for an average bounty hunter, who's skills are coding rather than creating accounts, it's just easier to buy some of these accounts, and all he have to do is start running his own code, nothing else.
So to cut the long story short, why don't we just lock all the newly created accounts if they don't post in a few weeks time (I know there are newbies who are here to read first and they will post only if they feel confident about the forum, bitcoin, etc... and it takes time, but they are not the majority now unfortunately...)

Sziasztok!

... Keplerk will allow customers to convert their vouchers into bitcoin and store it in wallets on its platform. ...
I hope that that platform will allow the people to just send their bitcoins to their own wallets, hardware wallets, and they won't be forced to use a dedicated wallet to store and manage their bitcoins....

They have sold the black one with 50% discount, and offered a free next working day DPD delivery in the EU, which is more than anyone can expect from a company who runs a black friday sale... I know that they sell the Nano S in a lot of different colors (even with transparent housing) but the black can do exactly the same, so this was a good opportunity to buy a hardware wallet for those who were already thinking about it.

Wow what an idea, and it's 63 pages now and still counting I was just about to post a 'Good project' into that topic but I was afraid that someone would report me because of low quality posting unbelievable that people can write but they can't read (or they just don't like to read )

We probably need to be on the lookout for this kind of behavior actually. As more and more spammers get banned and restart with newbie accounts, some may resort to this tactic when the realize they will struggle to get that one elusive merit.
It's not a big deal, at least not for now. You don't have to be on a lookout for this at all. If you see a random user putting such signatures on every post, just report him, and mods will take care of it; rather than coming to meta and creating a thread about this new 'threat' and make users go on a wtichhunt for these ad-spamming dumb fuckers, emphasis on the users(which is everyone but bots and LoyceV, obviously). Maybe there's something else they can do, if they want: They can quickly archive the post with archive.is and include that short url into the report, just in case the newbie start to edit the post and remove the signature part to escape the ban...

Just make sure that you won't share your code... I've read in another topic that spammers/copypasters are now fishing for anti-spam anti-plagiarism methods, to upgrade their systems in order to have less accounts banned in the future...
He's not the admin so I don't understand your point, if he prefers to be open source, he's free. Absolutely, it's his decision. I'm just wondering if it worths the efforts to develop a system to catch the bad boys, where the bad boys can easily check how they are identified to be a bad boy or not and they can modify their system accordingly to escape the checks... If open source, there will be no catch after the bad boys have adapted themselves, so the new system would be just unnecessary... But bad boys would stand up for the open source system of course

I never said you couldn't do it Piggy But it looks like it involves a lot of modification to what the bot does now. not a lot of changes in the end, but since this bot is serving a complete different purpose and since it's stable now, i would like to avoid put on top of it more code which could potentially fail and bring down everything altogether It i'll probably be something separated based on this one, if i see is possible to get some useful result. Just make sure that you won't share your code... I've read in another topic that spammers/copypasters are now fishing for anti-spam anti-plagiarism methods, to upgrade their systems in order to have less accounts banned in the future...

I can agree with The Pharmacist's pessimistic ghost, there are two types of newbies here (basically): - those who care about the rules and they will study it and will try their best not to break them - the spammers who won't care about the whole thing, despite of it will be put next to the more menu, will flash red and blue or will stay for 30 seconds at login... For the first type, it will help a bit, for the rest, it won't... ever... but unfortunately they are the majority now, so I'm not sure if it worths the effort to develop this for those few newbies who are not here to spam...
I don't think I agree with you on this. In as much that some people end up breaking the rules of this forum does not make all of them spammers. Majority are just ignorant of the fact that some activities are not tolerated on this forum and I think this additional option will be of great help to a lot of people here. Well, maybe we can agree, because those who are breaking the rules accidentally, but not all the time, those are still type 1 and those newbies will rank up as the time goes by, those members are not spammers and hopefully won't be in the future as well... But those who are breaking the rules all the time and don't care about anything but the ban, those won't become anything but spammers and the problem is that they are the majority now...

Don't be too harsh on "officer Busimo" who was just fishing for plagiarism detection methods so that their "friends" could try to avoid getting caught. Using a new account is a good strategy. Reduces the possibility of the whole farm getting busted.
We've seen this game before. I'd also suspect that some of the "ban appeals" - particularly ones claiming it was "one time" thus begging for more examples - have similar goals.
Wow, haven't thought about it this way... but can be true... I've already thought that spammers and farmers are also reading the forum (the interesting parts only, of course ) but to start a topic fishing for anti-spam methods... seems these guys are smart enough to make it harder for the mods to catch them easily...

... We also need to lock all the old spam mega-threads that are available to be bumped. ...
Nuke it Why to archive the sh*t by locking the topics? And locking won't decrease the post count as well... If we start to clean up at least the Bitcoin Discussion, and nuke a lot of unnecessary post, spammers will avoid the place, because they will learn sooner or later that there's no use to spam in BD because it won't make them any money on the long run... and this is the key in connection with spammers...

We should really have some more stickies in Meta, to have separated topics for: - account banned/temp banned/etc... - account hacked/stolen/forgot the password/etc... - report copypaste/textspinning/bots/etc... - merit ruined my life And we'll have a cleaner Meta in a few days

I too would love to "reclaim" Bitcoin Discussion. I barely go there now, and thus don't report posts there. Unlike the altcoin board (where I report many posts like "great project" from automated searches), Bitcoin Discussion has much more "generic shitposts". If ever a cleanup starts, and the board gets one or more dedicated Mods, I'm willing to do my share to start a massive cleanup.
I'm also interested in a massive cleanup in Bitcoin Discussion. What I would like to achieve is to have a lot's of topics deleted, because spammers and bounty hunters would only care about the post count, and you can only decrease their post count effectively (not one by one) if you delete spam megathreads and those where they only post average meaningless replies. I know that we surely will lose some decent replies too, but if this is the price we have to pay for a clean section, I won't be too worried about it... Or, we could ask for a development, not to let the merited (but just the merited) posts to delete from a thread, so if you delete a spam megathread which contain some merited good quality posts (I know the chance for that...) they will remain and the topic can live on with the quality posts.

You can also have a look here for plagiarism checker websites: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5050022.0And there are several other topics in the forum where other members are hunting for spammers/copypasters/etc.... Take a look around and you'll surely find copypasters, you should start in Altcoin discussion bounty topics

I would prefer a checkbox to be able to filter the topics, only to show those which has at least 1 merited post... Would make difference... If there are enough merit sources, who check the new topics and the new replies periodically, this will help to find the quality topics easier

A similar, auto-lock feature was mentioned several times ago, but nothing happened. If you look at the whole forum these days, you'll see that usually the OP won't come back to his/her topic, because they're opening them just to increase their post count, and their spamming friends are happy to reply to the newly opened topics with oneliner meaningless posts, because they also need the post count for their bounty campaign... And not to mention the bots...

Anyway, it's good for the newbies if they want to buy copper and they don't have to search for it... (although it's not hard to find it). I hope that the reason why it's easier to find where to buy the copper membership is that it will be harder to become a Jr. member soon, e.g. 5 merit or something Kidding
