1201  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Paper wallet / Cold Wallet on: November 16, 2017, 08:23:55 PM
Glad that you making the move from online wallet to a safe wallet like paper wallet and cold storage.

I second the choice of using a hardware wallet, it is really convenient, secure and cost less than $100. It is a small amount to pay for a peace of mind.
That's the point I would like to emphasize as well.
As soon as someone has managed to gather some portion of BTC (0.1 or above) to spend $100 for the hardware wallet should not be a question (or to spend $1 on a paper wallet, if you want to accumulate only, and to HODL for years). Hardware wallet is useful to someone who want to manage actively his/her bitcoins, do transactions frequenty from different computers or from mobile phone... For HODLing, paper wallets are just fine, just make sure you have several copies in different locations, hidden... It's always better to be safe than sorry...
1202  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I hate this Trezor Wallet on: November 16, 2017, 07:04:07 PM
I've heard many negative comments about trezor wallet. why not MyEtherWallet do you use?
Probably because Trezor is a hardware wallet and MyEtherWallet is not. Or, do you mean that if you select the Ledger Nano S instead of Trezor, you can use your Ledger with MyEtherWallet? Both Trezor and Ledger has it's own method, how you can use it, if you connect it to a mobile wallet (e.g. Mycelium), there's no difference.
1203  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I hate this Trezor Wallet on: November 15, 2017, 09:25:04 PM
I bought the trezor thinking it was the most safe way to save my coins. But now I can not get the thing to open and I have alot of money there. So I want to know how can I do a restore of the wallet?I have looked online but there is not a good source of information. Some reddit comments with no responses etc.Where are the people who have had to do this?
Unless you have your seed at hand you won't get forward easily. Is your problem OS related or your trezor broke down? If OS, you can try to hook your trezor up to your mobile via a micro USB-micro USB OTG cable and set it up with mycelium, it can handle trezor's wallet. If your trezor broke down, you will need the word list (seed) to restore your wallet. More details, please, if possible.
1204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Robbery in Istanbul on: November 15, 2017, 09:20:25 PM
a best thing to do is something like trezor, have a seed with a few bitcoins on, and a second with your wealth, never store all in one place, you can give the 'dummy' keys with only few bitcoins up under duress. They actually allow seeds with different passphrases so you can set up a dummy one.
It doesn't matter if you set up a dummy one if they know the exact amount you have...
Trezor's solution is good agains everyday (OK, not everyday but only the simple) robbers who doesn't know exactly what amount you have and it's enough for them if you show them a little amount... Trezor's passphrase is for this purpose. If they know your public key and they see your amount, they should be educated about bitcoin and won't let you know unless they got what they want...
1205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do people get their bitcoins? on: November 15, 2017, 09:11:06 PM
Hey everyone,

I was wondering how most people here receive their bitcoins? I personally handle in virtual items in video games. (CS:GO, DOTA 2, PUBG) I sell these items on a marketplace and receive BTC for them I also join a online casino now and then to try and make some easy BTC!

Do you guys just invest in bitcoins and not touch them? I personally use mine on a daily base for purchases / trading etc..

Let me know i'm interested!  Grin

Tom / Yaking
Good idea to sell virtual idea for crypto. Be sure to gamble only for fun and don't expect to get rich from gambling... Only risk you can afford to lose, you can find this sentence in nearly every 5th or 6th post in connection with gambling, but it's still true. You can easily lose the amount you gather from selling those things.
If you think that it's easy come and easy go, then it's not a problem to gamble a bit...
If you want to earn some bitcoins after you have lost everyting in casinos, check the services section of the forum, there are always some small jobs paying in bitcoin
1206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is there such demand for Bitcoin? on: November 15, 2017, 09:04:31 PM
Bitcoin attracts users that don’t want banks and governments to control their money. That is why bitcoin was in demand..
Bitcoin can help people to somehow manage their financial situation better. It won't make difference in countries where people are hunting for food and hardly use money but in some developing countries it can really make a difference. Google also has started it's own wallet in India (not bitcoin wallet but fiat) because of the need. There's a demand for easy money management and we're at the beginning, we have only a few options now to choose from (bitcoin is one of them) but we still need to wait more. Bitcoin will be a major player in this market if governments don't ban it globally. Today it seems that they are just trying to regulate it, because they see some potential in it (hopefully).
1207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: exchange websites for cryptocurrency on: November 15, 2017, 08:27:17 PM
let me tell you that i only have an option of EUR - SEPA transfer  to deposit and buy the crypto
You can have a look at XAPO (it's not an exchange, but an online wallet). You can feed your XAPO wallet with an EUR - SEPA transfer, and when your transfer arrives at XAPO, they will put the bitcoins into your wallet. After, you can send your bitcoins into any of the exchanges to do what you want. However I don't recommend XAPO 100%, because their support is slow (they're always overloaded, because they're so big). If you can find another wallet that can accept SEPA transfer to feed the wallet, you're good to go.
1208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is the new Gold it will be worth... on: November 15, 2017, 07:45:15 PM
Well, gold is a currency, Bitcoin is not.  So Bitcoin can't be the new Gold yet.  Not until we determine that the bitcoin is a currency.  So at the moment, no gold is not what Bitcoin is and it can't be the next gold until we make it a currency.

Bitcoin is a currency. It can be used for different things online and it can be converted to any other currency like dollar eur etc in a very short amount of time. Gold is difficult to keep and has more risks to be stolen while bitcoin is up to you how will you safeguard it and it is usually easier to store. Bitcoin doesn't need to be the new gold because it is better than gold.
OK gold is difficult to keep, you need a safebox or something, alarm system, etc... if you store that at home. But I don't think that bitcoin is less riskier to store or to handle. Gold is not hacked by malicious codes or malwares on your computer so do bitcoin. You need to install antivirus, anti malware, etc... If you have your bitcoin wallet on your phone, you can drop it and it will break, you drop it into water, etc... you also need a safe place to store your bitcoins (hardware wallet, paper wallet). The risk is the same, the way you can handle the risk is different. People need education about online (digital) security as well.
1209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Potential mining ban in China, effects on market? on: November 14, 2017, 09:37:23 PM
If it happens, it will be a very big problem. Now there are a lot of unconfirmed transactions that caused the fee to be very high. Now consider that people in China are banned from mining. What will happen if we lose them?

Chinese mining makes up a huge proportion but it's not the be all and end all. You have operations like Bitfury that have never been anywhere near China.

Bitcoin might lose 50-60% of hash rate which is a pain but far from fatal.

But that's ignoring the obvious one which is - the Chinese miners would stick all their gear in a truck and become Russian or Thai miners instead.

Plenty probably won't make the move, but you can bet Bitmain certainly will which might make those tossers even more powerful than they are now.
There were rumours about Russia, they were about to reopen an old nuclear plant to feed the newcomer crypto miners with cheap energy in north Russia, where the summer is also below 0 Celsius, so there's no need to install expensive airco machines for the mining gear, it's enough to have the windows open 24/7 Smiley
1210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is mining the number 1 problem of Bitcoin right now? on: November 14, 2017, 09:31:36 PM
Mining is not the nr.1 problem. Problem is that the mass adoption is still far away. As long as most of the people are not aware of bitcoin or under educated about that, there will be easy to manipulate bitcoin with fake news, price manipulations, etc... If bitcoin would be widespread already, price would be less volatile and bitcoin itself would be less vulnerable to forks and so on. Bitcoin needs to build trust in itself among average people, but it's not easy to trust something you don't know at all.
1211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to buy and keep purchased coins safe even if you know your PC is hacked? on: November 14, 2017, 09:17:02 PM
Step nr. 1.: Assuming that your computer is compromised, reinstall the OS asap, install an antivirus and anti malware.
Paper wallet or hardware wallet.
If you want to buy and hold, you can use paper wallet, if you need to do transactions frequently your choise should be a hardware wallet.
If you want to maximize the security of the paper wallet, download a copy of a paper wallet generator, and install a fresh OS on a PC with a USB printer (without internet connection) and generate and print a paper wallet (or print at least 10 to be on the safe side).
If you don't reveal your private keys, your paper wallets will be fine to store the coins. You can use your public key to send coins to the wallets and you can check you balance without any risk.
1212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Transaction Stuck! on: November 14, 2017, 08:30:31 PM
Your fee would be decent if the situation was not like this...
Average fee according to fork.lol now:

Your fee is half of the average, so you need to accelerate somehow.
You can try ViaBTC:
https://pool.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/
Try at full hour, first few transactions are accelerated, and it's free.
1213  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Best hardware wallet? on: November 14, 2017, 08:16:46 PM
What's the best option for hardware wallet?
Options are:

Trezor
Ledger Nano S
Keepkey

What do people recommend. Any other options aside from those?

There may be other options outside these but these seem to be the industry leaders and to keep your $ safe you want to remain with the best of the best. That being said I personally have used and loved using a Trezor, but

I have seen videos for the others and they also seem capable and as durable as the Trezor. Dont think you can go wrong between those 3 tbh although I think Trezor and Ledger are a bit better options.
There's minor difference between Trezor (original) and Nano S, both have screen, which is a minimum requirement for security. The altcoin support is the difference, the Nano S supports a bit more alt than the Trezor but both are working on the support of various alts . Maybe you can hang the Nano S on a keychain, because of it's shape but that's only a personal preference.
1214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Back to normal ( if there is such a thing) on: November 13, 2017, 10:52:58 PM
What damage was there?  Bitcoin worked and is working as it is supposed to.

You don't get it. People not paying sufficient fees according to the network situation, and thus have to wait a good while for their first confirmation, means that Bitcoin isn't working as it should. That's the general logic people seem to thrive on. If you pay appropriate fees according to the network situation, you'll never experience any delays or whatever. I have never had to experience any delays or other inconvienences due to filled mempools. I just pay what's needed to get a quick first confirmation. If you follow that path, it's like these "problems" don't even exist. Wink
Appropirate fees nowdays is about 350 sat/B, which made my first confirmation in 11 minutes. Bitcoin network works, but I don't want to calculate the fee in USD... It's enough for me that despite of the huge backlog, I can manage my transfer, if it's a real need...
Mempool looks really bad now:

1215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it time to sell some BTC for ETH ?? on: November 13, 2017, 10:15:17 PM
I have a small amount of Bitcoin, and have always believed in bitcoin but it is going down daily and it might flip with BCH... no one knows

Would it be a good idea to buy some ETH until the storm clears with Bitcoin and then when we know who is the clear winner, BTC or BCH buy that one back ?

I don't suggest ethereum for bitcoin because i hope bitcoin have great potential in the future but ethereum also good coin to invest but you buy ETH with fiat not with the bitcoins. And i wanna tell you something if you want profit the investment should be in long term if you just convert often from one to another coin you will face only the loses.
If you can react quickly, you can buy anything you want. ETH could be a good idea, because a lot of people are trying to avoid the risk and want to buy something different from BTC and BCH. ETH is a well known alt, but as soon as the BTC vs. BCH battle finishes, alts will be down again, because people will sell their alts. So just react quickly
1216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can the government or banks create their own crypto? on: November 13, 2017, 09:39:54 PM
They will use the brand name "crypto" for sure but it will not be anything like that. A centralised netwrok that'll be all. They will try to be innovative at th same moment that they will delete cash money. No worry, open source project will be here too gain new user from this new liberty removal  Angry
I don't think they will call it 'crypto' because if government creates something, it needs to be accepted by all the average people too. People without proper technological or financial (or crypto Smiley ) knowledge will be afraid of the new government issued coin if it's called crypto money or similar... They probably will issue it 'silently'. Maybe, in the first round, they will let only the banks use that and if it's successfull, then they will let people use it. They will probaly call it the 'digital' money instead of crypto.
1217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HAHA @BCH switchers! on: November 12, 2017, 11:22:25 PM
Do not laugh at others misfortune.

Yes, we make profit only when others make losses, but still, the next day we could be at the other end and lose big time.
It's really a zero sum game. If something in the pump phase, first those will buy, who have the information that it worths to buy. When the price starts to skyrocket, people start to think that they will miss something (FOMO) and despite of the higher and higher prices, they jump in, when the first buyers are already selling. Crash comes after...
1218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are my sending fees so high? on: November 12, 2017, 10:36:26 PM
If you check the mempool, it seems that something has already started:

It needs some time but it will normalize soon. Would be interested to see the mix of the transactions in the mempool sorted by the fee (sat/byte). If there are a lot of 0 to 10 sat/byte transactions again, the situation would be similar when in summer we were right before the first fork...
1219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fiat Currency Will be Laughable in Five Years Says Billionaire Tim Draper on: November 11, 2017, 09:54:57 PM
After 5 years, it is only possible to strengthen the positions and trusts of bitcoin among ordinary people. But in 20-25 years you can already think about replacing Fiat. But for this bitcoin should be extremely perfect and fast.
It won't replace fiat even in 25 years, bitcoin and (that time digital type of) fiat will leave next to each other. Governments and central banks are developing their own digital currency (digital fiat like in Sweeden) so Bitcoin will have competitors in case of national payments. For international payments, we only need to reduce the volatility of the price of bitcoin and gain mass adoption, because bitcoin is capable to handle international transactions but not ideal yet.
1220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Trading Banks United Kingdom - Shut Down By Tide Bank on: November 10, 2017, 10:20:26 PM
More and more banks are saying no to cryptos nowdays, and more and more exhanges and online wallet providers are implementing AML and KYC regulations. My XAPO debit card will be cancelled on 10th December because I haven't identified myself properly in their system... I have used the card for just a few times, to check if it really works, so this will not be a major loss, but seems that the cashout will be much difficult in the future if this continues like this...
