321  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: PotCoin | GROW WITH US | CRITICAL WALLET UPDATE - POSv | on: September 01, 2015, 11:39:29 PM
I sent a support ticket to Cryptsy about getting my coins out. They said they are waiting for a fix from the dev. They have no idea when the wallet will be working. What the heck kind of "Fix"? -M

The fix that blocks older wallet versions.  Until that happens, any Tom, Dick or Harry can run an older version of the wallet and keep the exchanges locked up.  I posted the fix weeks ago, but no one from the dev team wanted to address it.

So basically, you forgot the difficulty algorithm for POS?  That's a pretty major oversight for making such a significant change.

I'm sure you'll get all the props in the world from the community on reddit(the armpit of the internet) for "fixing the issue so fast", but the truth of the matter is that there shouldn't have been an issue to begin with.  A mistake like this is pretty damning to your credibility as a dev.  Additionally, you still haven't forced a new minimum protocol version, so essentially even the wallet code prior to POSv is still "valid" in the validation of the current code.  The POSv wallets that were missing the difficulty code are still "valid".  Not smart.  I'd seriously suggest putting that code in before you compile, because anyone with enough Docker knowledge could probably think of some interesting ways to take over the chain right now.

So what's the fix, devs?  Do you at least have the issue identified?

It would be nice if we could get an update on what's going on.

-Fuse

Yes we have identified the problem.

As we've said, we are working on fixing the issue.

Your patience is appreciated

Then what is the issue?  Being transparent about the problem and the solution is going to award you with some credibility that you are greatly losing as the hours go by.

is anyone working with the exchanges to get the POT markets unfrozen???

Some exchanges have already stated that they weren't going to unfreeze the markets until POSv kicks in, because of the possibility of older wallets on the chain.

This is a good example of why you always block old wallet versions if you are trying to push a mandatory update.

Just did a reboot of my windows machine and been mining using the new wallet. Now the wallet says this .
Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct. You may need to upgrade or other nodes may need to upgrade.
 I am also using the
Latest list of nodes.

Someone you connected to hasn't updated.  Your client will connect to other nodes automatically, much like how torrents work.  I'd disregard the message for now if you know you're updated to the latest version.  Short of a code change or a firewall ban, you're going to see this happen.

I am not a programmer, but my understanding is that all of this will be moot when the transition to POSv happens. Maybe they should contact the reddcoin devs and ask for help, I don't remember this happening with the POW->POSv transition with rdd, then again, laudney, the lead dev for rdd is the one who designed POSv, so he may have had an advantage in that. Yes, right now someone can fork the chain, but what does an intentional fork get them? other than a headache for those that get onto the wrong chain. They are also on a clock, we have only a couple of weeks left before it transitions and after that the forking of the chain shouldn't be possible.

Which is why plugging any holes now is important.  If the devs want to gain some community support and backing during this transition, they need to keep things tidy.

I just want a word as to what the plan is.  If the devs are going to ride it out, then so be it.  If they want to clean things up, awesome.  They just need to make it known what their stance is on what's going on.

Thank you for telling me what you have posted multiple times, going so far as to quote yourself just to mention it again.

Have YOU contacted any of devs directly? Your not going to get anywhere by repeatedly spamming this thread with that idea. YOU need to reach out to them and offer to help.

Here is another thought, why don't you compile your own version of the wallet/daemon with that protocol and see if anyone else is willing to upgrade. Or, ya know, you could wait until POSv kicks in and this will be a moot point as POW blocks won't be accepted by the upgraded clients.

They would have gotten a notification for the pull request.  People keep talking about forks and out of date node issues.  The protocol change was made in the code and then removed, for whatever reason.  So while POSV would be a nail in the old node coffin, the fact of the matter is that people can't move coin off the exchanges right now, including me.  Additionally, the excitement of the changes being made, and the increased interest in supporting POT, is waning because there is no clear message being made about the issues people are reporting.

I've made a suggestion.  Yes, it was numerous times... good for you for being able to keep track of things.  However, I've had a vested interest in POT off and on again over the last year or so, and I'd just like to know that things are being handled properly.  Fact of the matter is that using the -disablesafemode flag doesn't resolve the alleged fork issues right now, or the possibility of launching a fork attack on the chain.

Just my $0.02.

    "version" : 80701,
    "protocolversion" : 70002,
    "walletversion" : 60000,
    "blocks" : 931868,
"errors" : "Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct! You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade."

We're still blocked until this is resolved...

thanks,
richie@bittrex

According to redrhino on reddit, this is essentially a false flag. Its showing that error because someone is still running the old version, if you use the flag -disablesafemode when running the daemon it will turn that message off.
https://www.reddit.com/r/potcoin/comments/3f7wqs/oopsit_did_it_again/ctm5x4w

And if you adjusted the minimum protocol version, the old clients wouldn't even connect to the new chain.  You wouldn't have to worry about old nodes, malicious or otherwise.

I created a pull request on github to block old wallets via a minimum protocol version check.  The version was changed in previous commits, but then changed back.  Not quite sure why that happened.

https://github.com/potcoin/Potcoin/pull/1

-Fuse

Anyone on the old wallet could rent mining rigs and fork the chain.  Merge the pull request, recompile the wallets, and we can stop worrying about all this "right fork" confusion.  Force wallets to be on the right fork.

Aurora coin has been created for the islandic peoples, i really didnt knew that! ...But is interesting the foresight of the owner during the finnancial international crise what started to affect worldwide economy since 2008. Them premine was used for help peoples, that's awsome idea and, old or new, Aurora coin remain one of my favourite crypto currencies.

Is this the start of a new pump or sell out now and leave coin for dead? Come on, with such a low supply you have to keep the pumps coming for AUR.

Did you miss the discussion about trading/speculation moving to another thread?

Please keep this thread for constructive discussion related to services, development, marketting, etc.

May I suggest to create another thread ''trading oriented'' ?  I've been a daytrader myself - and enjoyed it a lot !

I saw the other one on Auroracoin forum, but btctalk is more accessible to me, so I made:

[AUR] Auroracoin market observer

I'll ask the team to add this to the OP.

Thanks, mate!

Gentlemen, I think we are all here for similar reasons. Fuse delivers exceptional contributions to AUR by working very hard at new code soon to be released in various wallets and tools. Also "the guy that uses the name Baldur Odinson" (sorry, don't know how else to call you  Wink ) has put in a lot of effort to raise awareness to AUR for quite a while now with great articles on his websites.

I think we are all working on getting this project forward in our own way. One thing I can set straight regarding the usage of the confusing account name "Baldur Odinson" is that I had PM contact with the owner a while ago and he tried to change it by our request. Unfortunately this is not possible without exceptional support from the BCT dev's. I just feel it's fair to disclose this, for I don't think there is intentional harm done here.

So, kuddos to you all, we are achieving great things together  Grin

My concern is not with his name, but with the personal text under his name.  This can easily be changed, as I have just done by adding "Criptoe Team member" under my avatar picture.

I will back off a bit on this discussion.  But first I will say this:

I don't agree with the request for trading hype.  If people want to try to create hyped up trading opportunities, they can do it outside of this thread.  Our focus should not, and will not, be creating trading opportunities for non-Icelandic citizens for the sake of making someone money.  If trading AUR for BTC profit is what people are in for, they should go buy a trading bot like C.A.T. and leave this thread to constructive discussion.

I'm just getting tired of this thread being dominated by talk of market capitalization and trading, for the sake of trading.  Let's get back on track and discuss real world use in Iceland, and how the community would like to see AUR get there.

Are you a hater or a participator?

There's plenty of aurora love to go around man.

I do my public relations work over at www.aurorapr.co.vu check it out.

Do you own auroracoin?

Do you buy, sell or hold?

What country are you from?

Do you share auroracoin story with your friends and family?

For your information, I'm part of the dev team.  I've already discussed my AUR holdings in this thread.  My country is listed in the OP under the team list.  I buy and hold, and sell when money is needed for development on my end, regardless of price.  I've told everyone close to me about what I'm doing with AUR, but I'm not marketing it to them because they don't live in Iceland.

Any other questions?

May I ask that the dev team gives us dates for any developments they plan to release as this makes trading easier.

I sell auroracoin as a broker in south Africa and I need to communicate auroracoins roadmap to my clients.

In the past, developments such as the end of the airdrop, the burn and the launch of the website have resulted in predictable increases in price.

I expect furture developments to affect the price in the same way and if the dev team communicates dates for these developments in advance that can help auroracoin traders and brokers like me make better decisions that are in the best interest for the auroracoin ecosystem.

Thanks for the great work so far, go team!

Oh... ok... yeah, let us give you that.  Oh wait, aren't you public relations for AUR?  Shouldn't you already know that?  Oh... that's right, you have nothing to do with AUR.  You bring nothing to the table, and you "broker" AUR away from our target users.  Why would we want to help you do that?

Kick rocks.  While you're at it, change your profile tag.  I'm getting tired of you falsely claiming you have anything to do with AUR.

He does have a point about the dev work mate, if the coin was named anything else and catering for something else it wouldn't even be a top 200 coin on coinmarketcap. It's a risk that Icelanders will adopt this coin over bitcoin that we are all taking here. So the development of AUR needs to be on par with bitcoin in order for Icelanders to accept it.

That's like saying that because the Euro is more widely used that they should use that too, is it not?  Look how far that got in Iceland.

I'm not Icelandic, but if someone asked me if I wanted to use someone else's currency, or my own currency, I would choose my own.  Something developed and marketed specifically for me and my country, for use in my country.  AUR development doesn't need to be on par with anything except AUR.  We don't need to compete with anything... we just need to make AUR a closed-loop currency that people will want to use in Iceland.  We can't code adoption.  We can develop it for everyday use, but ultimately it will be up to PR to push adoption.  Between the AUR Foundation and the Bitcoin Foundation, who do you think is going to be focusing more money and time on advertising in Iceland?

As far as our question goes, we were mostly asking about a OSX compile.  I'm sure you can find plenty of other coins that have done the same.  I can probably randomly click on any coin in the altcoin section, and they will all have some kind of request for help for something similar.  So I'm sorry, but I don't see his point.

Frankly, the talk of the market cap and trading is getting old.  If all people are worried about is trading AUR, then go trade AUR and let things happen here as they will.

Rather keep posts like this off the ANN, for a coin that is meant to be almost half a million in marketcap should not be asking this questions. I can understand a coin that is $20k in marketcap needing help. This is why the price has fallen overnight.

Wait, I'm confused.  Where has the price fallen?  The 1000AUR blip that you attempted to move the market with to cause chaos and create trading opportunity?  I guess that didn't work out so well for you, did it?  It's alright, mate.  There will be plenty of other opportunities for you to make money off of AUR without having any meaningful participation.

Fact of the matter is that we aren't as proficient with OSX compiles as we wished, and language differences make character translations in the GUI interesting.  So relax.  You're just in it to trade anyway.

I think you guys are missing the point here. It doesn't really matter how many coins some people are holding but how many people are holding coins. The amount a few people hanging around here have doesn't really matter in the big picture. What matters are the thousands of Icelandic people that claimed their 31.8 aur in the initial airdrop and making them active.

Everyone here that holds some substantial amount of the coin will sell eventually and might make some gains on it but that doesn't mean that the person who is buying the coins at that time is loosing something. When the Aur economy in Iceland starts to evolve these coins will get distributed be it to Icelandic people or anyone else that wants to be part of the Auroracoin economy.

Is the supply of any fiat currency evenly distributed?
Is bitcoin evenly distributed? How many coins does Satoshi have again?

The most important fact here is that 46.8% (20.542) of the Auroracoin addresses hold between 10-100 coins and the majority of that is the claims from the first airdrop. Another 6.9% (3038) addresses hold between 100 -  1000 coins and I bet a large part of that is from the second and third airdrop phase. This is what the focus should be on not what some individuals or dev team members are holding as that is irrelevant.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make, in a roundabout way.

The fact of the matter is that there is a ton of coins to be bought, traded and mined still.  There's no reason worrying about what you, me or Joe Shmoe have compared to the next guy when the richlist numbers can change overnight.  All it takes is one BTC rich investor to look at AUR and think it's a good deal, and then all of us are pushed way down the list.  Or maybe I get one really expensive car repair bill, and I need to secure quick cash by selling AUR to pay for the bill.  Things change daily.

Skarfur is 100% correct, though... let's focus on the number of people holding AUR.

No ways I am sharing my addresses with non anonymous coin like AUR. Also don't want people tracking my movements . I am sure ny2cafuse will feel the same.
@ Danslip and y2cafuse
may i ask you guys to post your addresses when claiming how many coins you have because you lack credibility when you just shoot off numbers like you're the richest people in auroracoin world.

I don't really care if people know where I hold my coins, tbh.  As far as credibility goes, I can assure you that my claims are credible.  It's not like we're talking about 10% of the total supply.  I own less than 0.5%... it's not something I would need to lie about.  Smiley
