i would tend to believe it's more of a scam that meyer's hho,

With Meyer's you don't have to believe anything. There is a perfectly good wiki page. He also filed a patent so you can just build what he made and see if it works.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Meyer's_water_fuel_cell
http://www.google.com/patents/about/4389981_Hydrogen_gas_injector_system_for.html?id=ihY9AAAAEBAJ

That is the best think about patents. Nobody can buy them up and hide them. If it is patented, it is public.

heh maybe you misunderstood my words, we're on the same side here, i only meant to say that meyer invention is publicly known as a scam and strongly believe he made it work through water resonance like he states in his patents.

Stanley Meyer claimed before his suspicious death that he refused an offer of a billion dollars from Arab oil interests if he would stop work on his electrolysis process.

New biz model. You start working on new "electrolysis process", stage a fake demo or two and wait for 1 billion offer to stop working on this. Awesome.

yeah, more than one tried to pull that out but "they" have experts too and know how to recognize a genuine invention. Compared with the 2 million offered for the invention we're talking in this thread i would tend to believe it's more of a scam that meyer's hho, who btw was only putting in practice Andrija Puharich real findings and succeeded.

Personal interest make this kind of technology fail to reach the masses every time, it's a feature if you ask me put in our economic system by the creators, and stall the evolution of our race. Hope bitcoin solves this issue by having the ppl who really put time and energy into this kind of research get the funds they need from all of us.

We could talk days on this issue and agree on every aspect or keep up the good work on bitcoin adoption and wait for inventors to come aboard Cheesy

That's true because almost every time in the past that somebody has successfully developed such a device they are either threatened, bought off, arrested or killed.

Please do elaborate on these.

Has been done already link. A search on google give lots of results too
3684  Other / Off-topic / Re: Successful Test of Cold Fusion Device - Customer (DARPA?) pays 2 million$. on: October 31, 2011, 03:32:07 PM
As far as I have been able to figure out these kind of devices do not work ...
Precisely.

People, use your critical thinking faculties.

All we have is Rossi's own claim that his customer is satisfied enough to buy the device. During the demonstration, they didn't even disconnect the external power cable, which is supposedly only needed while the device is being started up. If the device really worked, they would have been happy to disconnect the external power supply.

[edit: it seems they didn't even turn the diesel generator off during this so-called test!]

That reminded me of this scene from Primer.

thanks for the tip cruikshank  Cheesy , didn't know a series like that existed

@Mageant we all know it happens, proof is all around internet Sad , the day some anon person releases 9 page doc to build an ingenious yet simple and small device, that harnesses energy from the empty space we're surrounded, we will have a real breakthrough. We could even use bitcoin to stay anon if we ever wanted to sell ready built devices to other peers and make some profit

Roger Ver with MemoryDealers.com is selling the Cascascius coins at his site for CC and Paypal:  http://www.memorydealers.com/bieq.html

you should take extreme care buying Cascascius coin from any other than him because it can be forged or duplicated by a motivated person.
I could sell 10 or more clones of the same physical coin linking to the same bitcoins in the blockchain and the firsts person who redeems their coin gets the value the other 9 would be left nothing more than a nice shiny coin  Shocked

I'm not skeptical at all, i believe it's possible it works and can be a revolutionary technology but i refuse to use another "device" that creates it's energy based on some material element, few grams of nickel is used by this cold fusion device. Nickel is cheap but in case this technology is adopted could be the next "fossil fuel" if you ask me with all the bad things that will bring.

We already have inventions that create lots more and don't have to use nothing in the process, they are being kept secret by gov all over the world, and seeing a device like this being publicized should rise some alerts for ppl. We are prohibited even experimenting with free energy devices and scientists all over the world, funded by big business, spend most of their time bashing and denying it's existence with their flawed laws and shit.
The first and second laws of thermodynamics are valid and will be forever but are mistakenly interpreted or applied, you have to look at the "big" picture when measuring energy put into and output of a device. The vacuum is full of "static" energy that enters freely in every device we make. The basic principle in every OU device, mechanic, electric or chem, is a very efficient oscillator (pendulum) or swing that you have to "push" at it's resonant frequency to have it build huge amounts of energy that you can have for free. We see free energy devices all day long in the parks but don't stop to think how they really work Tongue

Sorry for the long post but i had to say all this.

i would happily wait an hour if it's a really large sum, invite the other person a coffee, take a walk or something else. we could turn more social using this system, you never know Tongue

Yes, I also like that option. It promotes human contact and social interaction. Everybody is in such a rush these days...

Exactly, you said it  Cheesy
3691  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the best technology to use for a face-to-face BTC transaction. on: October 29, 2011, 07:33:14 PM
@nmat, if i import the key pair you generated and charged with funds into my wallet and set it on auto, make a transaction to transfer funds on one of my personal accounts, how would you double spend the coins without having some superhero abilities of some kind ?

Finney attack

I don't need superhero abilities, just a decent amount of computational power Cool It is obviously not simple and may not be practical to do, but if you are relying on this "instant transaction" to make large deals (several thousands of dollars) you may be defrauded. You need to wait for confirmations on the transaction to your personal account.

EDIT: The general idea of the attack is that I am pre-mining blocks which include the transaction from my address A to my address B, but I don't release them. Then I give you the private key/wallet to my address A. You give me the money and send a transaction from the address A (which you now control) to your address C. As soon as I "hear" your transaction spending the coins in A, I release the block with a transaction from A to B, which invalidates your transaction.

i would happily wait an hour if it's a really large sum, invite the other person a coffee, take a walk or something else. we could turn more social using this system, you never know Tongue
3692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the best technology to use for a face-to-face BTC transaction. on: October 29, 2011, 06:52:14 PM
The problem with all that export/import stuff is the double spend. If you import my key into your wallet I can still spend the coins. If you transfer the coins, I can use an attack with a pre-mined block that invalidates the transaction.

Since you need to wait for confirmations anyway, I also prefer DeathandTaxes' method. And you can use green addresses if you don't mind the "centralization".

i still think e-mail method should be put in the client. it sound relatively easy to implement, and it adds user friendliness,

@adamstgBit has been talked a few times, we already have covered the communications channel named Internet no need to reinvent things again, we need ways to transfer our bitcoins over other channels like air for example. Internet technology already thinked of that too and resolved it by "encapsulating" the message in a good transporting package, a bitcoin wallet stored on a usb flash memory or CD would do.

3694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A proposal regarding improved bitcoin money supply predictability on: October 29, 2011, 04:18:57 PM
@julz i don't get what is to fear of, if anything is to be implemented should be on the exit points, the exchanges. They should have the right tools to monitor the blockchain and heavy tax "old" coins. Those coins would not affect in any way trades made in btc. I see it like this and i'm no economist. We will get a real scale of value for bitcoins when ppl start accepting them for basic stuff like bread, sugar, beer or toilet paper Tongue

Please stop proposing protocol changes ppl. Think of it as the road everybody drives on, we agreed having the signs on it's sides.

I think the easiest way is for you to let him use your computer to access a webwallet.

- Get an address from your wallet, copy it into notepad or something, leave that open.
- Enable hidden keylogger
- Buyer comes over, you agree on price.
- Buyer logs into webwallet (BTCinch, MtGox, Tradehill, whatever)
- Buyer copy/pastes address into webclient, sends btc.
- Buyer logs out.
- Transaction should show up in your bitcoin client.

fixed that for you Wink

heh, yeah, I guess that does throw a kink in things. Perhaps let them bring their computer, then send an email with the bitcoin address? Is there a way for a computer to read a QR code like a smartphone?

it's hard to find a solution, i know, cause bitcoin it's in our computers and heads. Until we can easily import private keys into pc client, android or any other type we will have to deal with it a little awkward.
Would be nice to have an export sum of bitcoins to file. For example hit export, enter amount and client would be writing a  .btc onto your usb stick containing public address and private key. Hand the usb to a seller, he hits import from usb, rescan the blockchain on the fly and spend the amount in his wallet. Hands over the usb stick without that file on it.

I'm sure a bitcoin light client for RIM would go out in no time and all teenager girls will have the ability to go shopping only with that piece of expensive hardware on them.
I trust my smartphone, until we find a real easy solution, and i recommend everyone have one, even my 50 year old parents have one and at first used them only to make calls, now do everything you can do with them and don't complain that much Tongue

1 - cause with 1 coin from 1, I can soon buy option 2 and enough of option 3 to wipe my ass with until the end of time.

yeah, awesome that too  Grin
