There is a reason that someone is innocent until proven guilty
You realize that that does not apply in the USA anymore, right? Roll Eyes It is such a police state these days, and I have my doubts that a single TSA agent or police officer has ever read the Constitution or its amendments.

What rights have you lost to a TSA agent? lol
All of them. They can seize and search your electronic devices at will, with no warrant, they can grope and assault you with no recourse, and they are expanding their operations like only an oppressive regime can.

3703  Other / Meta / Re: Less stringent communications/time restrictions, please on: April 10, 2012, 06:21:20 PM
I run into the "you cannot post more than once per 20 seconds" restriction fairly frequently (it counts both PMs and posts), and have also been running into the "you cannot send more than 10 PMs per hour" restriction occasionally.

Could we please have those restrictions lessened? I think having the time-between-posts restriction reduced to 10s, and the time-between-PMs restriction reduced to 30m would be very helpful in allowing me timely communications with forum members. Alternately, maybe it could be a donator-only or VIP-only perk? (obviously, I'd prefer donator-only so I don't have more incentive to spend another 40BTC  Tongue)

Cheers!
Even the mods and admins are subject to the 10 PMs per hour limit, it's ingrained into the software of the forum.

I could only hazard a guess how insane the costs will be to australia then Sad ironically TAOBAO to here would be an easier solution however the onsite translation really sucks through chrome and they dont seem to like my phone number for their "verification' thing so i'm trying to get some help in sorting this out

Good luck in getting the issues sorted out Bigpiggy

Ummm AUS is about 35% cheaper than US/EU on regular courier freight from China the same applies to fragile but the cost is still daunting. I think this is going to end up with me taking a trip down south (planned anyway) picking up a smaller batch and then packaging them myself prior to shipment (if I can figure out something fairly easy this might even be able to go through regular freight) as dISh has also just received a damaged batch Sad
Where does the damage usually occur? Is it just the thing snapping in half because it is so long? You might be able to alleviate that with double corrugated cardboard on both side of it. Wrap the sandwich in tape, and add bubble wrap to that.
3705  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining rig with wood? on: April 10, 2012, 06:03:22 PM
If you still have it, you could also try using the foam that comes in the box with the motherboard.  If you put that between the motherboard and the wood it will keep any solder points from have pressure on them, and will probably help keep the board from sliding around (which it might want to because of the torque from the power cable).

Also unless you don't plan on putting any cards directly into the slots, make sure you put the motherboard close enough to the edge of the wood that the end of the card sticks over and can get pushed down into the slot all the way.
Just as long as it isn't static preventing foam, since that is conductive and will short the board out. I did that once. Avoid the pink foam if you need insulating properties.
3706  Other / Off-topic / Re: Did anybody else get this Dwolla Email? on: April 10, 2012, 04:30:43 PM
I just got this in Email and it links to a site that isn't Dwolla.com:

With growth comes new discovery. One of our discoveries as of late is that we know Dwolla account holders are looking for easier ways to understand who, and what, uses Dwolla.
Your account has been automatically updated to reflect the latest version of Dwolla highlighting people, and soon, places.

I de-linked the actual link, but you can mouse-over it to view it.  Is this legit?
That's a MailChimp tracking link. If you are worried about it, just login to dwolla by typing their address into your browser manually. Poor form from a financial company though, to be sending links in an email. Roll Eyes

He's saying he may have been overpaid. How do you know that the amount shouldn't be less? Perhaps half?

If there is a way to use virtualization but still access the GPU hardware, that could allow for some really interesting ways of doing things.
There is, and a lot of commercial virtualization software offers it. It's usually called "GPU pass-through", or something along those lines.
Yes, but I have yet to hear from anyone that has tested it much. Luke-jr is the only one that I know of that has actually mined with a video card in a virtualized OS, using KVM passthough virtualization. But that was only one card, and the system was somewhat unstable. Others have mentioned that since the drivers run in usermode with X, that I might be able to run multiple X instances. But I don't really know enough about how that works to know how to set it up, or even whether it would work at all.

I'm fairly swamped at the moment, but if I can find some time I'll give it a try and see how it works, then report my results.
Did you get a chance to try this? I really would like to know before dropping another grand on this box.
3709  Other / Meta / Re: Members hiding online status on: April 10, 2012, 02:44:57 PM
Could you explain yourself more clearly ?

First how does that work ? and how does that matter ?

I'm pretty sure I have a browser with a btctalk tab left open on one of my PCs at any given time. Does that mean I'm online ?

If you send me a PM while I'm online do you think I will notice it as if it would ring a bell of flash lights ?

Are you really talking about bitcointalk forum or some IM fantasy ?
Leaving a tab open will not show you online, unless you cheat with an auto-reloader.
3710  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 79XX-coil whine. True or false? on: April 10, 2012, 02:22:52 PM
Does anyone even know the science behind the coils whining? Why don't we ever hear of motherboards whining? Only GPU and PSUs.

The answer is right here:

To have coil whine you need a coil and those are in your PSU.

... I guess Graphics cards must also have them?
Coil whine is caused by resonant frequencies in an inductor (coil). All electronic components with their own PWM regulated power supplies such as motherboards, graphics cards, and other peripherals have such coils (AKA chokes), even though they may only be the size of a standard capacitor. Here is an example of a very small one that you might find on a motherboard (from digi-key):

And here is an assortment of coils, large and small:

3712  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [360GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 10, 2012, 02:10:46 PM
After mining for about 4 month I again had pool split some days ago.

This time I didn't even get credit for my work.

I usually get ~0.10 BTC per found block from p2pool.

- It seems there was a split and on 2012-04-03 10:05:45 I got ~1.06 BTC (I was mining on that block for some days)

Unfortunately there are similar transactions on 2012-04-02 20:09:55 and on 2012-04-04 05:09:45 that are unconfirmed.

See for yourself: http://blockchain.info/address/1EZMh5fH33TFWLh6enwL86gam5LnEE2o4v

Question: Why are those transactions unconfirmed? What's going on?

Have you kept your p2pool version and bitcoind version up-to-date, as per many repeated postings here in this thread? Old versions prior to April 1st and BIP 16 support will be partitioned off the network and will produce invalid blocks.

This thread/concept is quite awesome. I skimmed some of it, I'll have to go back and try to read every page.

Did majority of people that tried this backplane actually get at least 8 GPUs working?
I am the only one (that I know of) that has tried this. Although, Bigpiggy01 has a different board that works similarly, that he has gotten to work with more than 8 GPUs using IOMMU.

8 GPUs is not a problem. Going above that is Smiley
I know, he has it working with 11 GPUs.

Do you have a link to his setup somewhere?

3714  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGox customer support == Huge Steaming Pile of FAIL! on: April 10, 2012, 01:30:30 PM
QUICK TIP: For anyone that wants to use a wire for any reason at all: Don't bother, unless the amount is greater than $1000, and some folks will say even higher. It just isn't worth the time, expense, and general hassle. USA, use Dwolla. Europe, use Intersango SEPA. Other places have other options too.

Would SATA cables rated for SATA III work better than SATA II? I don't know if the cables are actually different, but maybe they are.

So perhaps one of the non https links on the page is on google's watch list for "high risk" sites...
Interesting, wonder what their secret formula for "high risk" sites is.
3719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] A public company will build a huge Bitcoin Mining Operation (ASIC). on: April 10, 2012, 01:00:12 PM
I know damn well the cost of a mask set and packaging, and the engineers still need their salary. But I was asking why must there be a "competitive advantage"? I'll bet that even if the thing were crowdfunded, that the one making it would still demand secrecy, just because that is the way it has always been done.

When I put on my investor's hat, I start running scared because of the potential cost and devastation to the entire economy to be running this operation. When I put on my miner's hat, I see a concentration of power that could have been spread to keep the network secure, instead all working under the thumb of one group of investors, some of whom may not have the positive motivations that I am sure Vladimir has. And when I put on my end-user's hat, I see the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, just like the failed world of today.

Maybe as a peon myself, I don't understand what it's like to be rich, and why the rich must continue to become more rich. Perhaps if I had a larger discretionary income, I wouldn't be preaching about this, and would be demanding NSA-level secrecy about my organization, my investors, my product, and my vision of the future. But I'd like to think not, and I'd hope that others would feel the same way.

I've been considering that. Not exactly sure how well the angle connectors will conduct current though, some seem to be plastic, and others are bolted with a metal connector. It would suck to have the slightest loose connection, which is why I was considering copper busbar.
...
The t-slot extrusions are anodized.  All of the angle brackets are cast aluminum.
Cool. Maybe it will be sufficient then to use as my ground plane.
