why even ask?
He's the local troll, and can be safely ignored.

Just because the chips are on an old process doesn't mean they are secondhand.

Also, what are "crys"? Maybe it is some odd transliteration that google translate is screwing up.

You don't ask to become a moderator, you get asked to become a moderator. In other words, don't call us, we'll call you.

Shouldn't you be making a claims page instead of trolling about the nuances of different clients?
To be fair, there were those here wanting a response. You got it, even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear.

Fail from Avast on an epic scale. They are referencing a google search that points to systems other than their own as "proof", and those external systems fail because they think the URI indicates a virus, when it is only an API key.
2806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin client not downloading new blocks on: May 15, 2012, 04:15:49 AM
My client hasn't updated in 22 hours, I updated after seeing the news, but it still isn't working and is displaying the "WARNING: Displayed transactions may not be correct..." message
Do you have the latest version (6.2)? There is a critical bugfix in it for a denial-of-service attack.

Has th3j35t3r been unmasked?

The Jester shuts down Twitter account, blog entries following alleged threats.

In the [Twitter] message exchange, Cubespherical said they would publish the hacker's real identity and resume after they had acquired a donation of 20,000 BitCoins for whistle-blower web site Wikileaks, an organisation that The Jester has attacked by denial of service (DoS) and disparaged in a series of tweets.

“Jester's Real Life ID will be given up finally when this bitcoin address 15JDgkwFVXvuxCt66eUQ434ty3jrvwPfGe has 20K BTC (BitCoins).”  - Cubespherical's Twitter account.

About half of the donations would go to Wikileaks, while the remainder would help Cubespherical “hide”, they said.

Ah, Sad Unfortunately, ECC memory requires specific chipset and and board support.

The only FPGAs that *don't* work with p2pool are the BFL units, but they apparently have plans to fix that. (4-6 weeks?)

A Nigerian man used the identity of a murder victim to hide his status as an illegal immigrant while working undetected for decades as a security guard and then a security supervisor at one of the United States' busiest airports, authorities said Monday in announcing his arrest.

The arrest of Bimbo Olumuyiwa Oyewole came on the day a federal report found the Transportation Security Administration's handling of security breaches at the airport, Newark Liberty International, deficient.

Oyewole, 54, worked at the airport, starting in 1992, under the name of Jerry Thomas, who was killed that year in New York City. He was arrested, after an anonymous tip, at his home in Elizabeth on Monday and faced charges including identity theft, authorities said. It wasn't immediately known how Thomas' personal information was acquired.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the area's main airports and other transit hubs, said Oyewole entered the United States illegally in 1989 and had worked under several contractors at the airport, most recently FJC Security Services, and supervised about 30 guards. The agency said its investigation found no indication that he used the fake identity for any reason other than to live in the United States.

Can I use DDR3 Registered ECC RAM, usually used in servers (HP or Dell), in the 890fxa series boards?
It appears that most 8GB sticks available are Registered ECC RAM for servers.
Nope, won't work. None of these will fit your specs?: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611%20600006050%20600006074&IsNodeId=1&name=8GB
I see 30 different options, and that excludes kits of more than one stick.
2813  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Efficient rig? For fundraising. on: May 15, 2012, 01:38:00 AM
Your fundraiser probably wont see any return on investment for 2 years if you use fpga. Even using a cheap gpu you wont see roi until like 6 months, and even then it trickles in sloooooooowly.
Yeah I kind of ignored ROI in my suggestions since it sounded like cost wasn't an object but efficiency was vital.

However, if you want to go the GPU route, you could undervolt and underclock some 5970s (used only) or 7970s (new, warranty, etc).

I'm trying to walk my coworker through signing up at dwolla and mtgox so he can buy some bitcoins... I gotta say, this process is a huge bucket of shit.
Use Bitinstant with some cash!

... now where's the USB boot I want ... Cheesy
Sorry, I googled for a while and came to the conclusion that it is only possible to create bootable Windows USB drives from within Windows, unless you do a lot of hacking within your *nix environment.
Additionally that Windows 7 is orders of magnitude easier to use on a USB than XP is.
Tips: Format as NTFS, otherwise not much is going to work. Chainloading with syslinux may be possible. dd if/of from an ISO to a device probably won't work. Sorry, I can't do much else for you unless you have a windows box somewhere. Using Virtualbox might work, but you can't use vbox OSE because it doesn't have USB support. Download the compiled version with non-free components built in if you want to use USB passthrough.
2817  Other / Off-topic / Re: Things said, and fights picked while we're waiting for our BFL products on: May 15, 2012, 12:56:42 AM
We should create a thread called: "Things said, and fights picked while we're waiting for our BFL products" so we can't really go off topic Smiley

Go.
First!
EDIT: Second, technically.
2818  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Platypus on: May 15, 2012, 12:50:56 AM
Yeah it seems like the trick is a pressurized/heated container..  I wonder how similar chicken eggs are to Platypi.  My friend thinks that trial runs of Chicken eggs could be beneficial to determing if it would work for Platypi..
I'd like to see you airmail a pressurized container. No wait, it wouldn't even be allowed on the plane. Roll Eyes

Hey.
So I run a club at my school. We were thinking about making a dedicated mining rig here to mine for some Bitcoins to raise money. What parts would you guys recommend for a low-power rig? We'd like to have a decent hashrate to raise money for the club.
We have some extra cases and hard drives, but I need recommendations on mobo and gpu (or fpga I guess Shocked). and cpu. and power supply.
Money isn't much of an issue since the club has money behind it.
If all you are worried about is efficiency, get a pocket-sized TP-link router and use it to mine with FPGA devices. Your best bet at this point is probably the Enterpoint quad boards, if you can get in on a pre-order. Otherwise, you could place a custom bulk order for X6500s. If you have a lot of cash to blow, go with the Ztex quads.

We should create a thread called: "Things said, and fights picked while we're waiting for our BFL products" so we can't really go off topic Smiley
Now you're on to something! It would probably be a lot of work though for a mod to split all this stuff off.
