2841  Other / Off-topic / Re: 872 mh/s firmware release - Butterfly Labs on: May 14, 2012, 06:00:12 PM
Just doing some math...

With 4 @ 832, I was drawing 300W at the wall including the router (12W), so (300-12)/4 = 72W per BFL.

Currently have 2 @ 872, and 2 @ 832, drawing 310W at the wall including the router (the other 2 won't run at 872).

So with 72W per 832 unit, the 872 units must be using ((310-12) - (2*72))/2 = 77W.

Comparing hash rates:
832: 813MH/s @72W = 11.26 MH/s/W
872: 849MH/s @77W = 11.02 MH/s/W

So SLIGHTLY less efficient.

You have a little miscalculation
813 / 72 = 11.29 MH/s/W
849 / 77 = 11.03 MH/s/W

Also interesting :
849MH/s - 813MH/s @ 77W - 72W = 36MH/s @ 5W = 7.2 MH/s/W

The 7.2 MH/s/W for the extra power is probably still profitable for you, if not, you better go back to 813 MH/s.

P.S.
I like math Smiley
How about someone measuring the power draw with each bitstream and creating a table? Mine use between 117 and 120 watts on the 872 bitstream.

I am a scammer from the UK !
lol, no shit. Your profile already shows that, you don't need to go around telling everyone.
2843  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: <3 kronos.io love thread on: May 14, 2012, 05:34:23 PM
since bitcoinica is dead plz use this thread to express your love for the bitcoinica replacement http://kronos.io/ that will be open soon(tm)
Sounds like someone is pumping a scam. Why isn't there anything that even says what it is on the site? Has anyone been able to log in and see what it does? What have you done that is different from Bitcoinica in terms of security and transparency?
It's legit. Expect it to launch within a few weeks with features which were meant to compete with Bitcoinica prior to it being shut down. JRO seems to tend to not make any public announcements of his products until there's something to really show. I'm not involved with kronos.io in any way for the sake of disclosure.
OK, if you say so. I still want to know what it does different from Bitcoinica in terms of security and transparency.

We have been quietly notifying the largest exchanges, merchant service providers and mining pools about this issue, and waited until they upgraded or patched their code to go public with this:
Responsible disclosure FTW.
2845  Economy / Goods / Re: [2BTC] 400 GRAMS of SWISS CHOCOLATE SHIPPED WORLDWIDE on: May 14, 2012, 04:15:32 PM
It with great honour that I shipped out my first order of 800Grams of Chocolate all the way to the USA Smiley
I just spent 18 Swiss francs in shipping which is more than expected.

Sending chocolate in exchange for bitcoins is just priceless and I love it.

However, I do need to increase the price for any future orders. And for those two who have shown interest and got your unique payment address, do take note of the change.

It is 3.5 BTC per 400grams and 7BTC per 800grams.

It is a good way to buy small amounts of bitcoins though.

Wow, that is some expensive shipping. Hope you didn't lose too much on it. I can't wait to get mine!

US subscribers should receive their first copy of Bitcoin Magazine by 16th of May 2012. Delivery time may vary for international subscribers.

I better be seeing it in 2 days...

Just a FYI, I don't recognize your claim at all. The only person I have to deal with it smart1985. He sent the money and I don't even know why you are posting here.

I would have thought that by now you would realised that in the BTC world threats don't help at all but you ( like smart1985 ) insist on threatening ...

Good approach !
Running scared now, are you? *popcorn*
2848  Economy / Services / Re: [4BTC] Assemble a PirateBox for me and send it to me on: May 14, 2012, 03:25:49 PM
Update, these Tp-link boxes are glued together so they are hard to get apart.  Angry
However, I attached a heatsink to the regulator and shoved it inside of the box. Grin
Too bad the mini-USB can't be easily moved inside the box, if it was a regular connector I would be able to solder directly to the pins inside, but it is an SMT USB connector which is a pain. This forces me to have a pigtail running outside the box around the edge to the mini-USB port:

Anyways, better than nothing. Cheesy
2849  Economy / Services / Re: [4BTC] Assemble a PirateBox for me and send it to me on: May 14, 2012, 02:41:36 PM
Got my PirateBox today, thanks Garrett!

The tab on the regulator gets a bit warm, so I might add my own heatsink to it.

In other news, I am investigating with my lawyer on how to go about potentially suing smart1985 for defamation of character and harassment.

I got the idea from here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=81454.msg899674#msg899674

Will keep you updated.

GOLD. I have got to see this. Please do it, I want to see the spectacular fail that will inevitably ensue.

And totally off topic:
At work, our analysis server's storage array just got upgraded to 20 250GB Enterprise grade SSD.  Utterly mindblowing performance on complex simulations.  The coolest part is the array chassis is only 2U and has hotswap bays for 32 2.5" drives.  Smiley  It is only a matter of time before SSD replace everything (except maybe nearline storage).  The only con is cost and that is falling by about 50% every year (faster than Moore's law).
Everyone needs to experience a huge array of enterprise SSDs at least once in their life. Smiley It is very impressive. And, I doubt you can make your throughput graphs dip when you shout at the array, like you can with regular drives. Grin

2852  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is it truly economically beneficial to run to FPGAs right now ? on: May 14, 2012, 02:18:47 PM
Do you mean a live (PE, Preinstalled Environment) USB, or just an installer? If a PE is enough, Microsoft provides a free Win7 one with the WIAK (Windows Automated Installation Kit), but it is a massive download. Oops, it requires a Windows install just to create the boot ISO before using it lol.

XP is kind of difficult to install via USB, but there are a few guides on the net. If you want a pre-tweaked version, a good one can be found at the Bay: torrent/7180951/
2853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 14, 2012, 01:56:53 PM
We are returning all balances AND your unrealized P/L. And we are glad to settle at a negative-spread price, i.e. if you have a profitable position, your get even more; if you have a losing position, you lose less.

I have emphasized this more than once. If you are too impatient to read the posts carefully please don't be so angry.
People around here are a bit impatient lol.

...
Have you been able to load your new bitstreams?
I haven't tried.
I did ask for the details of the command from Sonny to load them but he replied that they wouldn't tell me so I guess I'm just gonna have to get someone to open it in reflector and post the source.
(Maybe BFL think that only people with windows should buy Singles?)

But that has nothing to do with my post.
My post was directed at the statement that they would opensource it if BTC fails
(and the rather ludicrous statement that you could sell them for more than you paid for them if BTC tanks)

If there is any encryption going on then I would suspect the bitstreams themselves are already encrypted.
If it is just EasyMiner, well, then, that secret wont last very long.
As I said in another post, it shows that they have more faith in BTC NOT FAILING than you or others do. Smiley
The bitstreams I believe are encrypted, but I don't know whether they get decrypted by EasyMiner before sending them to the device, or whether they are delivered to the device still encrypted.

Just curious ... what exactly is gained from open sourcing it? (if BTC fails)

Do you mean that it is impossible to put in any new firmware without some special encryption key?

Or is there some other thing that would be gained from opensource?
Since if BTC fails, the only use for them would indeed be to program them to do something else (or somehow sell the FPGA's in them that are apparently worth something like $2000 new in the USA but a fraction of that in China)

At the moment the missing information is directly related to BTC (which would not be much use if BTC fails)
Creating an actual bitstreams has been done here by others already of course and since we all know what the FPGA is (EP3SL150) that's not really an issue.
Have you been able to load your new bitstreams?
2858  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New bitcoin.org Clients page on: May 14, 2012, 01:30:34 PM
is the table still available somewhere? the page as it is now is not in my taste. <choking down evil rant>

maybe the comparison table should go into the wiki and a link to the comparison should be at the top of the bitcoin.org clients page.
+1. Luke's table should be linked somewhere on the page.

If I was a Voting American, I would have done (and still would if given the chance) everything in my power to get Hillary Clinton into the White House.

If any Woman could do the job (and do it well) IT'S HER.

Unfortunately, I must disagree. She is an impetuous bitch with a Napoleon complex.
