3761  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's new for LHR GPUS on: July 24, 2021, 03:43:16 AM
Coins have been dodging ASICs for years by changing algorithms. If Eth wanted to they could just
change the algorithm to bypass the Nvidia block, repeat when necessary.

LHR is really just a marketing gimmick to shift the blame to miners for the GPU shortage.

If ETH went the route and actually did a fork just to get LHR cards working again then I am pretty sure it would lose tons of its value. Remember when they were suppose to switch to ProgPOW to get rid of ASICs, remember all the controversy that was brought up, especially by the ETH maxis?

Then they spent all the money, did a hardware and software audit, which came out positive. Then they decided not to do ProgPOW anyways. Then they for some reason said they will include ProgPOW, then all of a sudden it was removed from their EIP.

So I am pretty sure they will never change their original DaggerHashimoto algo.
3762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Heartbreaking GPU order on: July 24, 2021, 03:35:31 AM
I am pretty sure he bought it from a legit online store like Newegg. If he was to get scammed they would of scammed him right away and shipped the wrong products the next day instead of waiting 21 days.

I am guessing since 1660 can easily be mistaken for 1650, some new personnel packaged the wrong products at the warehouse. What is strange is usually in these large warehouses before you package a product you need to scan the barcode first and strange why they didn't do that as it would of revealed the error.

Either way, a pretty bad way to get your hopes up. You think you finally got the GPUs, open the box and discover its the wrong model.
3763  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it safe to use 2 PSU to run 8X RTX 3070? on: July 23, 2021, 09:01:50 PM
I've been mining with 2 PSUs since 2014 and never ran into any issues and I never used the Dual2PSU module.

Here are a few things to remember.

You cannot mix any of the voltages together. So if you got a GPU with 2x 8 pin connections. You CANNOT plug those into seperate PSUs, it needs to be plugged into the same PSU. You can plug in the riser +12V to the other PSU because there is no direct connection from the +12V pins to the PCIe power connectors.

The PSUs need to be grounded together somehow. So just connect 2 GND's together between the PSUs.

The secondary PSU, to prevent damage if there is some sudden shutdown of the main PSU, you don't want it running without a load. So plug in a fan or two to make sure it always has a constant load.

To get the secondary PSU to start up, you just need to short 2 pins on the motherboards 24 pin connector.

People have been doing this since 2011-12 if I recall because back then GPUs used more power and they didn't sell PSUs as large as 1600W back in the day. Hence you had no reason but to use multiple PSUs at the same time.
3764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's new for LHR GPUS on: July 23, 2021, 03:04:48 PM
I don't think it will be easy to hack the cards so you can mine at full speed. Nvidia probably has very tough security because they really don't want those GPUs in the hands of miners. I think if in the future there is some new algo, you might get lucky and mine at a decent speed however for ETH , I think its going to be very difficult.

Why did they do this? Well you would think Nvidia didn't care whether miners buy their GPUs or not. They make money anyways but the issue was the gamers. Gamers basically for months been complaining how they can't get their hands on GPUs to play Games and are forced to pay huge markups. And Nvidia's main source of customers are gamers and not miners. So this is why they went their way. I am sure in the future not all the GPUs will be LHR, I think its only now during the supply shock.
3765  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What should I mine on: July 23, 2021, 03:00:49 PM
These days the most profitable coin to mine is pretty much ETH unless you got some old GPUs that don't have >4GB and then you need to mine alternatives like ETC. Gone are the 2014-2015 days where there are a dozen or more of coins which if you put in the work, you can make an extra 20% of daily profits.

Back then you would scan the ANN Section of bitcointalk and you would start to mine any new launched projects and then you were at an advantage because the difficulty was lower and when it finally hit an exchange, depending on the price, you could of made like 50-100% more profits than mining LTC/Doge directly.

These days those days are gone and you should just stick to ETH.
3766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's going to happen to the weak cards? on: July 22, 2021, 03:17:35 PM
You will see alooooooottt used dirty cheap cards Smiley

Was there ever a time since crypto was born where there was a huge supply of cheap GPUs? I don't think so. Ive been around for the 2014-15 and 2018-19 bear markets where mining was highly unprofitable and there was no deals to be had on eBay or Craigslist. The only deals you might see are dead GPUs or GPUs with bad fans, maybe sold for a slight discount.

However gamers think that there is always a huge supply of old mining GPUs and they going around annoying the hell out of me on Craiglist and basically sending messages like "I know you mined with this Rx 470, i will give you $20 CASH, today!". And usually within a couple of weeks I Would sell that GPU to someone else for $100-$125.

When it comes to unprofitable ASICs its different. There are $20 old Antminers out there. However cheap GPUS? I don't think so.
3767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Few Chinese GPU brands are ok👌 on: July 22, 2021, 05:01:58 AM

R9 nano  Wink  Wink

Yeah and if I recall the Nano/Fury were the most problematic GPUs to come out of AMD. Pretty sure it wasn't due to the single fan but many gamers and miners had to RMA a bunch of these GPUs for some reason.

I remember they were great in late 2015/early 2016 because they were the most efficient at mining ETH. However when Summer came along and people found out about the memory strap hack for the RX 470/480 series GPUs, most switched to Polaris since they were much cheaper and less problematic.

Now a days... you hardly hear of a miner using a Nano or Fury GPU.
3768  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Any crypto spot and derivatives demo trading apps you know? on: July 20, 2021, 04:11:16 AM
He can just use Tradingview, it has a demo option. You are given some fake money and you can buy anything with it. Only issue is that I am not sure if it will work on a mobile phone, he will need either a computer and use a browser or maybe if he has a tablet the larger screen will allow him to trade demo.

My advice to him is that he should just open a real account somewhere, and trade futures using $1 contracts. That way he is trading live and if he loses he will lose fractions of a coin instead of real money. Trading demo is not good because everyone is a great trader when there is no money involved. However if he trades pennies, there will be some fear and it'll change his outcome and it'll be harder than it looks.
3769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH mining in Germany with Innosilicon A11 Pro on: July 20, 2021, 04:04:25 AM
Thanks all for the answers! Small update on the costs: I managed to get 0.05 EUR kWh electricity costs from a nearby company. But still, I guess ETH is not worth it to mine, but what about BTC? If I buy antminer S19 pro, which are still available for about 8-10k EUR, I could make a decent profit as passive income per year at such low kWh costs. What do you think?

Regarding BTC hashrate, keep this in mind. Currently the hashrate is lower than usual because of China banning bitcoin miners. So many miners shut down their farms and are either relocating their farms or just selling them off to other people.

So what this means is that the previous ATH hashrate will most likely return in the near future. Because those ASICs are still profitable and someone, somewhere will buy them and turn them on again.

So you need to run your calculations on a higher difficulty has a the one that we had a few months back.
3770  Other / Archival / Re: Will we break the key support at $30 800 or not? on: July 20, 2021, 03:58:53 AM
Support is currently now at $28800 because it was the lowest value a few weeks back. The $30800 or $30000 is not really real support. And $28800 might get broken but we can still close above it so you need to becareful.

What confirmation you need to prove that the $30K support was indeed broken and will head towards $20K is that it needs to stay below $28800 for a long period of time, best would be at least 24 hours. And then everybody would get confirmation that its not going up and would start to go short or sell their coins.

Similar to what happened back in Nov 2018, we broke $6K and stayed below $6K for a day or two before we resumed our bearish trend to the downside.
3771  Economy / Speculation / Re: Options traders aim for $100K Bitcoin by the end of 2021, is there a chance? on: July 20, 2021, 03:54:21 AM
The way options work is that it doesn't mean it has to be over $100K before the end of the year. The reason why the higher strikes sometimes have more interest is because they are cheaper to buy than say a $50K option. And even if BTC doesn't go over $100K but it has a fast rally into say, $70K and heads down, then the premium will increase alot due to the higher delta. And the trader can sell the option before it expires and make a profit.

Remember when we traded at $40-50K, Deribit offered $400K options and there was tons of volume on those. And does that mean bitcoin would need to stay over $400K before expiry? No. Most of the option holders just bought it because it was very cheap and if bitcoin kept having those double digit days, it would of make alot of profit with little investment and doesn't have to hit $400K.
3772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Few Chinese GPU brands are ok👌 on: July 20, 2021, 03:15:14 AM
Some of the Chinese brands are still as good as larger brands like MSI or ASUS however the issue for me is that its not really worth the savings to get a GPU where you got basically no warranty and going to be a tough sell if you try and sell it second hand.

The price difference is marginal and what if you run into an issue? What will you do? Ship it to China for RMA? Would be very time consuming and expensive just for an RMA fix. Most larger brands you just ship it somewhere nationally.

Second is that nobody will want to buy an unknown brand off you on Craiglist. They will think its a fake GPU and it'll kill resell value.
3773  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How effective are Copper thermal pads on: July 19, 2021, 08:13:07 PM
Copper is obviously better however how do you ensure a complete contact surface between the memory chip and copper thermal pad? I am assuming you need this to cool your memory chips since most of the GPU die chips are already in contact with a copper heatsink, usually with thermal paste in between.

Since the memory chip is brittle and if you jam a large copper thermal pad on it and squeeze it together, you risk of damaging the memory chip. And even if you squeeze it to the point before it caused any damaged, the surface is rough and won't be a complete contact surface. You will need to use thermal paste also and if you are doing that you might as well use the thermal pads.
3774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Trying to fix dead GPUs on: July 19, 2021, 08:09:02 PM

Adaseb what if the GPU don't show any signs of something got blown ? What if the fuse aren't blown and no capacitor got damaged and yet the GPU fan only spins with no display? Is there something else to look into?

Put it in directly into the motherboards x16 slot and use a bootable DOS disk and run atiwinflash and see if it can detect it. I had a GPU that did this before and all it needed was a reflash to start working again.

However I never connected it backwards on the riser, usually from what I read about people who did that is that the GPU is toast because there is a pin in there thats an actual +3V or +5V and you fed that load to somewhere which was only meant to be used a signal pin.

Try and see if it boots in DOS first.
3775  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will be the lowest price of bitcoin from June to December 2021 on: July 19, 2021, 04:22:38 AM
You need to understand that the lower that Bitcoin goes the lower the chances of it breaking ATH in the near future. If $30K holds there is a good chance we might get to $64K ATH before the end of the year.

But if it has a nasty crash to like $12K then sure it’s a great buying opportunity however you will need to hold that position open for a few years before we even get close to $50k or so.

So I am not overly bearish and don’t expect something like $12k however we had a bearish weekly close and we might get another run at the $28K support.
3776  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin and GBTC premium on: July 19, 2021, 04:02:54 AM
The reason why the premium is so large is because you cant redeem the GBTC for BTC....yet

If they announce a way (no idea how its possible) to convert your GBTC for BTC directly then the premium will disappear. However now its a one way street. BTC goes into GBTC but not the other way around. So I dont think too many people will take advantage of this arbitrage here because it seems risky. Especially with that large fee they are charging.

From what I read, they might get some ETF approved in the near future (somehow) and they will allow the GBTC to be converted to the ETF which would be very close to spot. However no idea when that will be.

So right now at the moment. Nobody wants to start this arbitrage which can last years...
3777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with PS4 or other game console?? on: July 19, 2021, 03:48:06 AM
The console has been out since 2014 and if it was possible we would of heard reports of them mining LTC/Doge back 2014, then when ETH got popular around 2017 till now. However there are no methods or reports that it has been possible yet.

Most likely reason is that the security is very tough to bypass to prevent piracy games, and makes its an uphill battle for any developers. They will run into issues and it won't be the most efficient anyways so what is the point. Plus SONY would also start to crackdown because they would have to deal with any warranty issues that arise from someone mining 24/7 and causing the console to overheat.
3778  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining difficulty decreasing on: July 19, 2021, 03:38:39 AM
Yes there are reports that there are lots of outlets in China that are selling used GPUs. I think the reason why they are selling GPUs instead of shipping them elsewhere is because they are worth more than ASICs and they are better off just selling them, than having to deal with shipping them to another country and mining there.

There is still a shortage of GPUs and gamers are hungry for GPUs and they still fetch top dollar these days. Hence they figured we might as well try to sell them instead of relocating to another country and having to set up another warehouse, etc. Plus the ETH rewards aren't what they used to be and there are already high tech ETH ASICs which are going to get mass produced which will cause difficulty to go even higher.
3779  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Trying to fix dead GPUs on: July 19, 2021, 03:31:20 AM
I have two dead GPU at hand, is there any tutor on how to fix this GPUS? Someone told me GPUs have fuse on them but I don't even know how their fuse looks like, they aren't like fuse you would find in every other electronic parts, any tutorial link?

Very rarely is it the fuse which causes a GPU not the function. An easy way to check if the fuse is blown is to just use a multimeter and check for continuity. If there is an open circuit then obviously its blown and you need to replace it. However if a fuse was blown, chances are it'll get blown again, so find out why. Maybe faulty wiring somewhere or bad riser which is shorted.

I have a dead GPU, it's a new 1660 super that stop displaying after I insert riser to the wrong side, the riser gots smoked but I expected the card to still works but till date it's not working, is there anything I can do

You blew something on the GPU. Take out the heatsink and inspect it. It should be obvious what was blown. If its one capacitor only then there is a good chance you can fix it. However most likely you blew a few components AND blew a hole in the PCB board rending it useless.
3780  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining difficulty decreasing on: July 18, 2021, 05:40:53 AM
They don't need to keep the market up just to sell the miners. What they typically can do is just do pre-orders and ship them in a few months. So I don't think they are keeping the market propped up just to make some ASICs sells. People will buy them right now as a pre-order.

And it won't be the first time in history when someone buys an ASIC and pays in BTC and then by the time it gets delivered a few months in the future, they don't even bother opening the package because it would cost more to run than it generates.

I remember when miners would receive their late shipments of ASICs, and they didnt bother even opening them up. Just put them up straight on eBay as a unopened package.
