381  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Two Exchanges in 2019 lost over $70,000,000 on: January 23, 2020, 05:04:57 PM
One of the reasons that leads to hack the platforms is the developed team. In many cases, the team either steals money to declare bankruptcy or one of the individuals cheated the rest of the individuals.

It is the weakness of the laws, legislations, and controls imposed by governments that encourage such behavior, so I think it is more economical than technology.

If this is the case then it is a problem with internal controls, which should be set by the company. Nowhere in the world is it legal to steal. So companies need to adapt security protocols that an exchange like Coinbase has. They have been without hacks because they have good internal controls to prevent such things.

We can build better tech, but if we don't have good internal controls we are screwed.
382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin fraud victim,75, loses £11k in life savings! Secure your BTC just now! on: January 23, 2020, 05:01:22 PM
She invested in an obvious scam. Hardwares are certainly worth it though if you care about the money you are holding.
383  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Get free marketing help for your project! on: January 23, 2020, 03:32:47 PM
The article you provided isn'y really a “free” marketing lesson it is rather a promotion for the marketing service you provide. Simply the article is built to endorse what you are doing and what your plans are to promote their project it doesn't show you how. Some sections where you say the obvious like “illustrations are better in Instagram rather than Medium” isn't really something you say in a case study as everyone knows it as a fact. If you only said the truth that this is a promotion for your service I wouldn't have criticize it.

I never have said that this is the end-all answer to marketing, nor have I said it will work 100% for you. A case study explains what the company did. That is exactly what I did.

It is free. I am not charging you a dime to read it, and you don't owe me any money.

"illustrations are better in Instagram rather than Medium”
You need to build concrete research in order to start marketing if you would like to start a business. Making assumptions is not the way you want to start up a business.
384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People are underutilizing Bitcoin on: January 22, 2020, 05:59:58 PM
Bitcoin is considered an investment tool. However, it is very good to use as a means of payment. I made some trades with bitcoin. This offers a quick solution. I think it would be the right choice for new operators to get paid with cryptocurrency.

This whole thread talks about how using Bitcoin has an "investment tool" actually hurts the economy.
385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you go to blockchain/crypto events? on: January 22, 2020, 05:59:08 PM
I would go to these events if they had any close to where I live.  They seem to be centered around the major metropolitan areas around the world and are hard for most of us to get to.

Yeah, they are typically in bigger cities since those are the hubs where you would find the most people. Do you watch the events via a broadcast or do you simply neglect them?

387  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Daily Crypto Brief on: January 22, 2020, 04:56:26 PM
I liked the idea, but the implementation is not professional, if there was a way for the user to choose the news sites that he wanted to display and then the add effects would be better.

You can add audio to read news, delete music, reduce ads, reduce effects, and diversify sources "Price news, technology, ...etc"

If you add a feature to display the content audio, it will be excellent "especially when you are driving." Shocked Shocked

This is an interesting idea that I will need to explore. This would have to be done via the website since there is programming that would need to be implemented. It seems like a good idea though so thank you.

388  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Daily Crypto Brief on: January 22, 2020, 04:53:59 PM
What kind of daily brief skips three days in a row after just starting? That already shows their diligence is lacking.

How can I trust these people to do the research for me if they can't even stick to a basic schedule? Then again, after still gettin 5 views per video, I can understand why they might not want to continue.

Where have we skipped recently? Saturdays and Sundays are not going to have the news brief but we are working in other videos for the weekend. I think you just missed the timing for Monday's video. Check during the week though, it goes up every weekday.
389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1.1 BTC Puzzle by Phemex on: January 22, 2020, 02:19:48 AM
why don't you explain in detail in this thread, I don't really like puzzles, and it seems that the puzzle is difficult to solve, I don't even see any posts that are similar to private keys, only visible face images and some writing, Alright, good luck solving friends' riddles.

Why in the world would it be easy to solve, its 1.1 BTC.

Kind of silly to even comment on this thread if you are not interested.

Although the money will all likely be paid back to users, what do you think about exchange security? Do you think there is a certain standard for protection that all exchanges should have?

I mean, I don't doubt that exchanges like Binance have robust security measures in place already.

They likely do, and they enforce it to their best ability. However, there will always be exploits especially when you have such a huge target like an exchange which holds irreversible payment methods. Hackers are inevitably always going to be on your back.

And this statistic isn't even comprehensive, it doesn't cover the smaller exchange hacks or losses. The real figure should be substantially larger.

But how come an exchange like Coinbase hasn't had this done to them? Don't you think Coinbase is following a better process/structure for security?
392  Economy / Services / Re: Video review of your project/ICO/Coin ~ ONLY $99 on: January 21, 2020, 06:35:16 PM

393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Schiff Lost His Bitcoin on: January 20, 2020, 06:12:25 PM
We shouldn't attack this at "this is his fault. Crypto is meant to be fully secured by its user"

We should be building better tech so that this doesn't happen to the millions of people who don't back up their wallets a million times.

If you are a crypto enthusiast you want crypto to be mainstream, so let's face the fact that mainstream is not a bunch of tech geeks.

If we want crypto to succeed, we need more educational content and better security features on wallets.
394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you go to blockchain/crypto events? on: January 20, 2020, 03:00:22 PM
Every year I look forward to the CES and their assortments of conference shows hosting for every big name contributors like Samsung, Dell, Apple, etc. There is always some really good tech in there with most of it being made up of concepts in order to capture the opinion and appeal of the consumer. There used to be a world fair where they would showcase concepts for the future of technology and i think CES is modeled similar except it has been scaled down a bit.
The first world fair for technological prowess was called "Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations" and was held way back in 1851, hosted at The Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, United Kingdom.
It would soon be one of many world fairs to come.

Did you happen to attend the CES event or do you watch it online or something?

If you have gone to it, what was your favorite blockchain product/service?

I am still looking for interesting projects that don't involve gambling or tokens.
396  Economy / Securities / Re: Dividents/Stocks on: January 20, 2020, 02:36:34 PM
Nope. Companies use dividends to pay out extra money that they are not using. It pays investors for holding on the stock. Companies like Facebook are always buying more companies and so they are not paying a dividend. Microsoft, on the other hand, is paying a small dividend, which allows them to hold some money for purchasing. If a company is offering high dividends I would be careful. Not all dividend stocks are bad, just as not all stocks that are buying companies and adding on are good.

If buying low and selling high was easy everyone would be doing it. If you aren't willing to put in hundreds of hours of research I wouldn't invest a lot and only use the money you want to experiment with. I would get an advisor that spends hundreds of hours looking at the market or mutual funds that will diversify your investments.

It says on the wiki about dividends it's in the law that dividends are a profit distribution, that's why dividends can only be payed out when the company actually made profits, it may be never financed with their own capital.

And yes I will definitely research some more before I will invest in stocks, maybe even talk to a advisor like you guys proposed!

Correct.

Companies don't have to pay dividends though that are profiting.

So like I said, companies offering dividends are trying to gain more shareholders by giving out money, and they are not sure what to do with the extra money that they have so they give it as dividends. (Extra money = extra money after profit)

Companies that don't offer dividends might not be profiting, but might be doing so because they are trying to scale the company.

This is why reading the financials is the #1 thing when you are trying to buy stocks individually.

*Dividends are not evil. I am just explaining what they are.
397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People are underutilizing Bitcoin on: January 20, 2020, 02:18:31 PM
Full article: https://www.forrestvisions.com/blog/people-are-underutilizing-bitcoin

People need to start accepting Bitcoin and keeping it, not converting it.

If you think of Bitcoin as just a virtual placeholder for fiat currency, stable coins will be the future and Bitcoin will slowly fade away.

Thoughts?
Well the main reason for this happening is because of how profitable bitcoin has become. People don't see bitcoin as a cryptocurrency or even as a placeholder for fiat, they see it as another get rich scheme that they can abuse to earn free bucks. Which is of course not what bitcoin is intended to be used for. Sadly, until this negativity is removed from the system I doubt bitcoin will get to what it was supposed to be.

This is exactly my thoughts. This is why "stable" currencies have proved to be a better option for people looking to transfer money.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Staking WAR has begun, who is wining it? on: January 20, 2020, 02:05:36 PM
Just a few years ago it seems like that staking will never take place on an exchange. Guess that was wrong.

But yeah, I think that Binance has definitely got an edge in this game because of the fact that they provide much better customer service from anecdotal evidence as well as the fact that they deal more in altcoins, specifically PoS altcoins. Coinbase may have a large customer base but their customers are mainstream investors without much of a need for staking.

That's why I think BNB could potentially be a good investment at this stage.

Why would mainstream investors not be interested in staking? Some liquid staking coins are 5%+ which would certainly intrigue mainstream investors.

Not that I would use an exchange to stake, but still.

A good idea. Convenient when the latest news can be viewed in one place

Thanks, I appreciate the kind message. How could I make it better?
400  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Two Exchanges in 2019 lost over $70,000,000 on: January 17, 2020, 07:09:56 PM
Video Covering the hacks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAktOcT1Mrs

Binance and BITPoint lost over $70,000,000 in hot wallet hacks in 2019. Although the money will all likely be paid back to users, what do you think about exchange security? Do you think there is a certain standard for protection that all exchanges should have?

We don't see Coinbase getting hacked, so are exchanges just not being as careful?

I think there needs to be a higher standard and hopefully, in 2020 we will see less of these hacks, that are actually avoidable.

Some of these exchange hacks have come from inside - so vetting your staff and making sure that you have rules about large amounts being moved and algorithmic checks to detect anomalies is crucial. But of course that all costs money to set up.

Even if everything happened from the inside, there are still better ways to hold internal controls.
