381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do they managed ? on: January 22, 2024, 10:49:36 AM
They probably either A, overprice the products, or B, just keep the Bitcoin as is and not convert it to fiat immediately. The margin for overpricing would probably depend on the average movement of the price and if they have a bit of knowhow, make the price adjustments automatically based on the past 24H changes which change with every 1H interval. Pretty doable if you know a bit and if not, can hire some hands to help with it.

For the latter, well, it's like what it sounds. They probably just consider whatever amount that goes into their Bitcoin wallet as a funnel for their investment from their store sales or something since not all sales are done with crypto most likely in the first place.
382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silly and scary questions, and what would you do if that were you. on: January 21, 2024, 10:58:02 PM

I mean, the way here in the first place is to avoid the initial premise of other people knowing that you have a sizeable amount of Bitcoin or heck, money in general. Unless you had some sizeable amount of confidence behind your security then I don't think there's a reason to share about it in the first place.

But considering it did happen, I'd give the money 100%. Nothing's more important than your life after all. If possible and I have enough proof I can even probably try to ask exchanges to mark the coins to be tainted/stolen, only if possible and hey, if lucky, get it back.

Well, at least he was embarrassed about it. Glad that he's not that too deep into addiction.

For my case, it's with a relationship with my gf back then? She was fine with me playing card games and the like with my friends at first but when she discovered money was involved she got pissed at me and made me stop playing. I was fine with doing so but a couple of days after I was tempted to play and well, she caught me red-handed at some point a few weeks later and the rest is history. Personally, now I wouldn't say it's an embarrassing situation since it's my decision about what I do, not hers but I guess the realization that a relationship runs on both sides made me think I should've explained my perspective to her instead of doing it one-sidedly on my part.

Idk if there's anything worse than that but that's the most memorable one for me.
384  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Increased Gambling Risk for the Younger Generation on: January 21, 2024, 01:31:56 PM
~
It's not only that, it's also a LOT easier to influence them. With the era of social media, even if parents wanted to, they can't exactly control their kid from doing what they want unless they rule with a hard iron fist, which most families don't. This leads to some of the younger gen to stray away from, well, what is common sense when it comes to growing up back in the day. At this point, they'd go all in for risks and whatnot not because they understand what they're doing but because they "watched" someone do it and get some fame and success lol.

I hardly think teachers and parents alike can do something if they really get swayed away. Most kids crave for something "new" after all.
385  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Patience can help alot on: January 21, 2024, 01:10:39 PM
~
Any activity isn't really something people can grow on top of if they aren't patient. It's a bit more skewed towards luck when we consider gambling though if we do remove that factor, then indeed being calm about bets and not fretting about losses and wins and instead concentrating on the original plan beforehand, if one even exists, would be the best thing to do.

And in the first place, worrying about money you're gambling on is a mistake. It's money that you should consider to have already lost even before the results are out since it's money that you can afford to lose, hence why you chose to gamble it away. If you can't afford to lose it, then why bother gambling?
386  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your state on mind if your son stole your money to gamble? on: January 21, 2024, 04:03:55 AM
~
I'd be pissed really. It doesn't matter that he knows how to access my account, I'd have taught my kid to never steal money from anyone regardless of who they are. It doesn't even matter if he won money, it was money stolen still. I probably wouldn't have given him the money in the first place though but indirectly? Maybe. I'd have asked him to do some chores and whatnot and gave him money to play with. Sure I would be glad that he won, but only after getting pissed that he stole money.

Well in today's age it's hard to pinpoint who's the problem really. Some parents are really strict but the availability of the internet and social media influences the younger audience by a LOT. Granted parents still have to properly control what they can see but we know it sometimes happens regardless of their will.
387  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can we consider a project legitimate if it has been in existence for two years? on: January 20, 2024, 10:59:21 AM
~
10%? Damn that screams scam already. Would avoid it if it were me but if you have the money to spend then why not try it. I mean experience is the best answer. As for a project being a scam or not depending on how long it was running, ever heard of OneCoin? It was a Ponzi scheme that lasted afaik for about 2 years? Or somewhere around there. And there was a lot, and I mean a LOT of people involved in it. Just look it up and you'll see how much damage it dealt to investors. The time of a project doesn't mean much. It may mean a bit, but it's never the main factor that should sway your decision.
388  Economy / Economics / Re: Thoughts on service-for-asset exchange model. on: January 20, 2024, 10:55:20 AM
~
Soo uh... bartering? It's not anything new. As you've said, it's limitless so it was the first afaik thought of method for people to trade. What we have now in the first place is an evolved form to simplify the method we put value in items/services since at some point in time, they probably realized that bartering goods in exchange for another good has its limits, namely with determining what value it has in the first place. While I don't know how often it happens to others, I've seen various similar instances, mainly on social media of such exchanges happening.

If you wanted it to be a legitimate service, then at most you'd actually be the middleman between the two parties but at that point, wouldn't social media have done it already? And for free at that.
389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Surge in Meme Coins on: January 20, 2024, 01:14:48 AM
~
The meme coins have always been wild. It has always attracted customers in a fomo like way and immediately dies after like a couple of weeks, maybe even days. If that isn't wild, then idk what is. A lot of opportunistic people take this as a time to attack late investors buy artificially inflating the market which attracts said late investors. And while I understand why some people still invest even if the coin is like already 50% up, it's dumb since any meme coin that has a gain like that will always drop sharply so expecting any gains from it is pretty obvious.

I know people want big profits buy they should be prepared for big losses at the same time. I prefer relatively stable investments in comparison though. I think I only tried Shiba  or Doge once or twice before?
390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I was robbed, and the severe setback made me rethink a problem on: January 19, 2024, 01:34:50 PM
Whatever "lock" you want to implement to your wallet is only difficult to the extent you actually want it to be. After all, it isn't a lie that crypto encourages you to be your own bank, and that includes the security part. So implementing security measures naturally comes as a part of it and it only ever becomes difficult if you don't even start taking note of it in the first place. In the first place it's not THAT hard to keep your keys safe, keep it away from being stored in any devices you use to access the internet such as having it writtin in a book in your place. Or hardware wallets.

Other ideas outside of those would be biometrics, 2FA and the like which requires creating a new structure around the wallets themselves, which isn't really needed with the methods we already have.
391  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Island in the Philippines. on: January 18, 2024, 11:02:25 PM

Well, it is quite effective in generating noise to attract tourists I guess, so it kind of somehow works? It remains to be seen whether tourists who actually can use Bitcoin will visit the country and whether said tourists differ from their usual expected tourist group, both of which are questions that I can't really answer.

In general, though I think it's good enough just based on the fact that it can create articles about it being this "Bitcoin Island" as they say, and if they attract even a small group of crypto users that they usually wouldn't be able to, I think it would work out well enough.
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Rise and Fall of ICOs: Lessons Learned on: January 18, 2024, 10:39:41 PM
Hey crypto mates! Let's take a stroll down memory lane and chat about the wild ride of ICOs – the good, the bad, and the "what-were-we-thinking" moments. Remember those ICO mania days when every token seemed like a golden ticket? Fast forward to Reality Check City.

Share your war stories, victories, and facepalms. What lessons did you learn from the ICO rollercoaster? Maybe your crystal ball predicted the next big thing, or perhaps you've got scars to prove otherwise. No shame, we've all been there!
I didn't have any big investments back then but I did profit from quite a few for a bit. I was quite lucky since the few ICOs I participated in at the start were pretty legitimate, so after taking a break from it for a couple of months I went back and thought the same would happen for any ICO I went on. Surprise surprise, my wallet just got filled with zero value tokens after a couple of months lmao. It was rather devastating to me since I didn't expect it to change that much.

For the next big thing who knows? I think NFT was the next big thing after ICO but after NFT we haven't really seen anything else yet.
393  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The PCSO Lotto is shrouded in doubt due to the picture of the winner shown on: January 18, 2024, 11:34:27 AM
~
Yup, this was talked about for pretty long in our office earlier. Some were defending PCSO because they went ahead and did this to "defend" whoever won it, which is kind of reasonable I guess. But then again some argued that it was shady in the first place since there were winners, or multiple ones, almost every month. I don't really know how the math works here since I don't have the numbers to check but as an average joe I guess it's a reasonable suspicion.

Not to mention there are probably better ways to tell someone to hide their face instead of needing to edit it out. Well, it is the PH, Am not surprised with the amount of stuff going on in here in the first place.
394  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GAMBLING DISORDER on: January 17, 2024, 11:10:09 PM
How can one control the uncontrollable urge to keep gambling despite the toll it takes on once life.

It's getting worse every day. I'm extremely depressed I have thoughts of unaliving myself more often, some times I feel the betting companies manipulate people spiritually to get them addicted where be playing without plans and strategy. Once a bet place get cut, there is this uncomfortable urge to quickly book another one with the plans of recovering the first money lost but it will end up cutting again.
Whats your medium? If it was online plug out your internet. If you need internet for work, then try using extensions that help in banning sites and just slam the keyboard when asked for override passwords or something. If it was brick and mortar casino, you can try telling them to ban you from entry. Casinos should accept those kinds of requests after all.

Now if you're asking how to stop since you want to always start, then habit. Your uncontrollable urge in the first place is nothing like that, it's just a habit. One that you can't stop following. So act on it. I swear people think that developing habits is so hard when they do it every day. Everything starts from yourself so if you're not going to work on it then I don't think anything is going to change. One good start is finding a new hobby and make it a habit to do that during the times you would gamble.
395  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling can be a hope restorer if we go about it wisely! on: January 17, 2024, 10:46:12 PM
~
There's nothing "wisely" you need to go about when gambling. Well, the only thing you'd ever consider wise about it is if you don't expect any damn hope from it. From what you've said OP I think what you were considering as wise were the decisions those men made AFTER he won, not during. Massive difference between the two. Never hope for something when gambling. It's not there for you in the first place to earn money, it's for the company owners to earn money from you instead.

But anyway, glad for whoever you heard of it from. Hope he doesn't fall into similar situations like others who squandered their money even if they had plans similar to what you were talking about OP.
396  Economy / Gambling / Re: How Crypto casino market themselves? on: January 17, 2024, 12:03:47 PM
~
Well for one they need them to be crypto users. And what would be the easiest way to garner people who use crypto? In countries that don't have crypto banned. Pair that up with countries that have the gambling industry well established and you can have a simple metric of where they should concentrate their marketing tactics. For specifics it can vary from casino to casino since it depends on the level of the company. For example, is how Stake was able to provide adverts for big tournaments and stuff like that. For smaller companies though, it may vary from streamer sponsorships, facebook groups/advertisements, and similar level stuff.

As for efficiency, only they can know really. But I think you can make an educated guess based on how successful they are from the time they launched the casino up to now.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reasoning before investing can save you from lose on: January 16, 2024, 11:08:36 PM
~
I think most people make the mistake that some investors invest on any project they see. I'd say this only happens to new traders and what we see with most people investing in a lot of projects is that it's actually in their capability to fully invest in a lot of projects and that these projects can return some profit, probably at the minimum help them break even or closer. Well that's what I think about them anyway.

Additionally, "losing money" is an inevitable thing when you're investing. It's a risky endeavor in the first place. If you want to avoid risks, then investing is not what I'd recommend. Not to mention that it's not a lie when people say the greater the risks the greater the profit. The sad part here I guess is that people don't really know how to calculate the risks and their appetite for it, which is the reason why most people can't stomach the fact that they, well, lost money.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Have you made anything with ICO's? on: January 16, 2024, 10:42:09 PM
In the past yes. It was the golden time for ICOs and a lot of people were able to make profit from it. Even if you consider the losses I reckon most would've been able to get a net profit of at least some amount really. Past a certain year though which was I think 2018? Almost every ICO was pretty bad, most of which blinded users by "possible" profits from god knows what analysis bs their team got from. Which, well, some people, myself included, believed.

I personally avoid ICOs like a plague now but if you have the time and money to spend to look them up as well as accommodate their conditions to participate, then up to you really. A lot of legit ICOs are hard to find these days. Personally don't think it's worth the time and effort.
399  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you pay attention on other people bet and it amount, and does it affect you? on: January 16, 2024, 11:35:42 AM
~
In games like crash, you definitely can't help but pay attention to not how much they bet, but rather how much they're winning instead imo. I've definitely felt it before and was even dumbfounded at the amount some people bet and immediately lost with that 1.00x bang lmao. Now I don't personally let it affect me too much but I have felt rather poor in some instances, especially the early games that I've had with it. You just can't help but feel a sense of inferiority seeing the amount they bet vs you. Well to combat that I just start thinking to myself that they're the outlier instead since if I started comparing all the bets from all the players I see, they're the rare ones, not me.
400  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: cashout or wait till the end? on: January 15, 2024, 11:03:36 PM
~
I think you left out the part where you say "wait till the end of the game and lose everything" Grin. Well, it is gambling so I won't force anyone to cash out when I want to since everyone has their own goals, but personally, I would. Why? It's already a big profit, I don't see any reason why I should wait for more to come. If I wasn't in a profit though or if I was barely in profit then maybe I'd wait.

I always try to retain that mindset to not assume money that "can" be in my hands is already in my hands. It's bold to assume that in the first place anyway and whenever it happens, I always take it as a sign that I'm being way too greedy for my comfort.
