Can someone eli5 how to use the console to import the bootstrap.dat so that I can be more up to date

Sure.

I'm assuming Windows, but if it's linux the procedure is the same, except the file is /home/username/.litecoincash

Anyway

Make sure the client is not running. (LitecoinCash core).
Navigate to C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\litcoincash

Delete everything but wallet.dat

Copy bootstrap.dat to this folder

Launche LitecoinCash core

Get a stiff drink and wait.

While you wait, if you want, you can import your private keys.

Go to file, import private key, and paste it in. Don't choose rescan until you've entered every key, then choose rescan. This WILL slow indexing by the amount of blocks already scanned. Given where the fork is, you can get away without the rescan, as it's indexing anyway.

I just did this, it works fine Cheesy

If I kept my LTC in Ledger Nano during the fork, is that means no way I could claim the LCC now?

Look in the OP or on the website. I don't know how to do it, but yes, you can retrieve it from a Nano.

43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LCC] Litecoin Cash | SHA256 LTC fork @ block 1371111 | 10:1 claim ratio on: February 20, 2018, 12:59:26 AM
So I downloaded the bootstrap file, extracted it to C:\Users\<NAME>\AppData\Roaming\LiteCoinCash
in winbloze.  The file size is 11,609,447KB
My wallet now says that it is indexing block on disk, currently at 4 years 33 weeks behind.
Is that right, or
Why does it seem that the bootstrap.dat isn't doing a thing?

If you look in the folder where you have the bootstrap, you'll see things happening. It has to index the entire Litecoin chain, and then all the post fork blocks. It takes a while, even with a bootstrap.

Wallets just went live on Git Cheesy

Anyone having any luck downloading the 14MB file?Huh Stuck at .1%

I just gave up and went with the torrent. I have 2/3rds of it in tenish minutes.

How much time it takes? And why we have downloaded the bootstrap then? It will fasten?

Yes, it's a lot faster, because it don't have to download all the blocks. It DOES have to index them and create your personal database. I am still waiting on the bootstrap because the direct download turned out to be sent by smoke signal, so I can't say how long it will take. I would guess around an hour on a decent computer.

You should be able to import your keys while it's doing it, though. I'll let y'all know when I get to that point Cheesy

Makes me want to invest and create a fork coin. Give it a popular name add a "Z" or "Cash" at the end of it and your rich overnight  Grin

I think this launch takes the record for delay of wallet after fork....  Huh

clearly you missed Bitcoin Atom.

EDIT:

Join the discord. It's lively. Anyway, they're planning on releasing the wallets as soon as the block explorer is fully synched. This can take a while. It's only 10 GB block chain, so I'd guess probably another 5 or six hours. It is a guess.

The last time I built a block explorer, synching it took 7 days, but it was a much larger chain.
47  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin become a daily currency? on: February 19, 2018, 09:27:39 PM
I'd like to point something out here that is not being noted by y'all. Speed of ACTUAL settlement. In bitcoin, it's settled, realisitically, in three blocks. That's on average a half hour.

The 'fast' transaction speed of fiat is an illusion. Actual settlement, depending on the banking entities involved, is between 24 hours and seven business days. They give you a 'credit' almost instantly, but that's what it is: Credit. IT CAN BE REVERSED.

Bitcoin solves this. When the transaction becomes confirmed, it's DONE. No takebacks, no bullshit.

Even with LN, this remains true, as each transaction in the side chain (payment channel) becomes permanent once confirmed, and doubly so once the channel is confirmed on the blockchain.

The problem to daily adoption is not speed or fees, it's ease of use. With a credit system on top of it, such as LN or even a totally off chain solution like VISA, that problem goes away.

Remember, it took 24 years and the biggest single theft of hard money in history to make the Fiat US Dollar have any kind of efficacy. BTC has gone more than halfway in less than half that time, and it doesn't require the massive theft of a population's wealth to make it happen. Just some incremental improvements in software, and a lot of adverstising.

Yes, it can be, and MUST BE a daily currency. If it fails to do so, then it fails completely. The sheer amount of resources invested in it militates towards it becoming a daily currency.

wallet 18/19 feb. haha which timezone its gonna be?  Roll Eyes
Dev said withing 24 hours. It's been 24 hours and 30 minutes now

You ever synch a block explorer?

I don't know what block they're at yet, but I can assure you from experience, it takes a VERY long time. It has to index every transaction from the beginning of (LTC) time.
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LCC] Litecoin Cash | SHA256 LTC fork @ block 1371111 | 10:1 claim ratio on: February 19, 2018, 07:58:37 PM
according to the discord, they're waiting for the block explorer to sync before releasing the wallet.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LCC] Litecoin Cash | SHA256 LTC fork @ block 1371111 | 10:1 claim ratio on: February 19, 2018, 06:10:13 PM
well, I slept on it, still no wallets Cheesy

So, I'm going to go ahead and move my LTC and chill out. I am curious as to why the bootstrap is downloading at smoke signal speeds. At the rate it's downloading, it would likely be faster to sync from zero. Unless they wait forever to put the wallets up.

Also, having never done it, do any of you know how to put your private keys into Coinami, or is that even possible? I'd rather not have another large blockchain on my machine if I don't need to.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LCC] Litecoin Cash | SHA256 LTC fork @ block 1371111 | 10:1 claim ratio on: February 18, 2018, 08:22:50 PM

Just for my education, can someone explain how this value of 1.41$ was calculated?

Some speculator pulled it out of their ass. The fork happened, allegedly, the coin hasn't actually launched. No wallets, according to devs, no mining.

52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LCC] Litecoin Cash | SHA256 LTC fork @ block 1371111 | 10:1 claim ratio on: February 18, 2018, 07:45:46 PM
When can I buy LCC on an exchange?
add to which of the exchange?

Not open on Yobit or Tradesatoshi yet. I'm not a member of the others, so can't adequately check.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LCC] Litecoin Cash | SHA256 LTC fork @ block 1371111 | 10:1 claim ratio on: February 18, 2018, 07:44:21 PM
i have 1 transfer to my exodus wallet tthat hasnt gone through yet, can i wait til it does, then move my funds and collect my LCC?

If it didn't go through at or prior to the fork block, you missed it.

If it just hasn't appeared yet, but is confirmed in the block chain at or prior to the fork block, you're good.
54  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 18, 2018, 07:42:05 PM
I wonder who the first one to 15 million merits will be  Wink

I like this change a lot Cheesy. Hopefully we'll see an increase in post quality  Cool

15 million merits is not possible in one lifetime now. Regarding posting quality, I cannot comment about all members but have seen some exceptional posts be new members. Merit system is a good motivation for everyone here.

I tend to agree. It's a positive step.

Those whining the most have nothing of merit to say  Grin

ill try the first two pools and still no wallet?

no wallet, no mining i guess?  Huh Huh Huh

no Smiley im also waiting for wallet

Patience, peeps. Unless the pools were given advance access to the code, they gotta sync up the same as the rest of us.

I was kind of hoping they'd release the wallets passcoded a bit before launch, but they didn't.

why some people crib here.OK,for time being assume this is another scam. What are you losing and how will it effect you ? are you sending any coins to dev or are you paying any fee.If you like collect some coins from the fork or just ignore and move on

Litecoin itself is not a real coin. They claimed it is a lighter version of bitcoin. Also please ask Charlie Lee,why he pumped up LTC to and sold all his coins at ATH ? It is a bigger scam .The conflict interest is  a BS and lie.If he really believed LTC is is baby ,he should have chosen LTC over coinbase !

BTW,I don't have any LTC or plan to get LCC coins from fork

Litecoin is 100% legit, and there are many things in the works which will help it continue to grow stronger.  As a volunteer with the Litecoin Foundation, I can tell you that Charlie Lee (along with others) are very actively involved in seeing Litecoin develop and grow.  Anyone that is only buying LTC for the LCC split and plans to sell LTC after will be missing out on the best to come.

LCC seems a bit tongue in cheek, and frankly, I don't see a GREAT use case for it, but it's certainly not scammy from what I see. No effort has been made to portray it as an official fork by anyone BUT Charlie Lee, who while I admire, I have to wonder about.

His selling off of his whole LTC stash bothers me. LTC has been a solid coin and a fair investment, not to mention the basis of countless alts, for a long time. I use LTC regularly myself, and don't intend to stop. Putting it in "park" for a bit for this fork does me no harm Cheesy
do you think LCC will take LTC's place of honor?

No. It's grown quite beyond Mr. Lee, and I don't think he meant any harm anyway. I just found his reasoning flawed. If he were 'only in it for the money' he would have quit years ago. The reaction didn't make sense. But LTC is a great crypto, and will keep on keeping on. LCC is just born, assuming the fork worked, and we'll have to see where it goes Cheesy

My LTC Core wallet won't be syncronized at block 137111. I sent LTC to the wallet already. The coins have arrived at the address I sent them to, using blockcypher to confirm.
Will the lack of synchronization affect my allotment of LCC?

No.

If it's in the Blockchain, and to your private key, it's all good. You just have to be patient Cheesy

If I keep my ltc in Yobit, will I get LCC there? And as the fork is taking place tomorrow, will I get LCC right away?

Fork is in less than 2 hours - 42 blocks to go

oh great. so are we going to get it right away or it will take some time?

Dunno about the exchanges, but if you're doing it right (your own wallet), you'll need to get it and get it synced, unless they're already ready with Electrum or some other SPV wallet.

EDIT: That begs the question, doesn't it?

How long after the fork will you be releasing wallets/sources, etc?

I'm'a standing by Cheesy
