1041  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Recovery program beginning in January for PB Mining customers. on: January 03, 2015, 04:15:26 PM
If it was a case of disagreement with a shop, then yes it would be a civil matter. However in this situation the shop has a disagreement will all of its customers and that changes things. Because of the potential size of this and the way it appears to have been structured, there is a much larger set of legal remedies available and potentially criminal too.

The criminal element would be, if it can be proven Boyko knowingly setup a ponzi scheme with the deliberate intention of defrauding the people that invested in it.

That is a common element of the law in many countries, I cannot see it being markedly different in Canada.

Other than that, it appears to be a case of a business, a company failure and as such normal receivership and liquidation under company law would apply.
There are likely to be legal remedies and charges that could be laid against Boyko under Canadian Company Law which could see Boyko being banned as a director and fined and if the offending is deemed severe enough there may potentially be more significant punishments.

This is all pie in the sky at the moment ... Yes, something has gone terribly wrong inside PB mining and we the customers are bearing the brunt of it with the possibility looming of total failure and complete loss. But there is a way to go before we get to that stage.

People can yell and scream as much as they want, but there is a set legal process and procedure that will need to be followed and adhered too to bring the company and it's directors to justice. Baying for blood and making threats is not going to help matters or speed them up.

It appears several approaches to authorities in Canada have been made. Those must now be left to investigate and decide on what actions are appropriate. As much as it sucks, all we can do is wait and see what happens.
I'm in the USA, so this MAY not apply, but corporate structure is very similar between the two countries. Basically, as you said, it comes down to two things.

First, if he was running a ponzi, then it is definitely a criminal matter. Proving that will be interesting.

Second, he was actually purchasing and reselling hash power and something went badly wrong in his supply chain. That's a civil matter, and not criminally actionable unless it can be proven that the failure was intentional. In that case, he has options. One, the one he's claiming. Try to rebuild through other avenues and compensate the existing customers accordingly. Two, bankruptcy, in which case said customers can make a claim and hope that they get a piece in the settlement. Simple bankruptcy due to business failure will not bar him from trying again or doing a different business, but it will affect his credit, or that of the corporation depending on how it's structured.

I hate agreeing with Puppet, because he's abrasive, but he's been right too many times for me to ignore it. If he's right, then we all got caught in a ponzi. I didn't think so at first, because the rate and timing of them adding new hash was consistent with them buying equipment from Bitmain and ASICminer. The delivery times and amount of hashpower corresponded. Later, it seemed more hash, faster, but there were a lot more hardware options then. I also was under the impression from private correspondence with pbmining that they were reselling only a portion of the hashpower they purchased, so that they always had a slush fund against power costs and to make a bit more profit off of their own mining operations. That would have been a sustainable model even given the no fee contract. It's the way I would do it if I had the capital to get it started.

At this point, I guess we wait and see. Not much else to be done, except those who have not broken even might have legal avenues to pursue. I liked the guys in private correspondence, they were always cordial and the reasons for their secrecy seemed legit to me. They had said that when they were just resellers of ASIC equipment that people had broken into their facilities and made personal threats, and they were not equipped to deal with that. Given the level of crazy on these forums and in this industry, I found that reasonable. But they've gotten very large, and I think this no longer applies, and said so many times. With the sheer amount of business they've done, they could afford very good private security were that still the case. Something stinks like rotten fish.

EDIT: I have apparently remembered incorrectly, in looking through previous correspondence I cannot find anything about a break-in. PBmining asked me to document this conversation just a few minutes ago, and I can't find it. I did find one about being harassed and threatened, so I'm leaving that as is. I either remembered wrong or deleted a PM, but I rarely delete PM's so we're going with old age on this one.

FYI:
Cryptsy has Tek Wallet in Maintenance Mode.

 Cool

slight update on this. It's being upgraded to the newest version. Some of the Cryptsy staff were made aware of the new git push while it was happening. There were (and probably still are) several nodes connected to a fork. While they do not cause the whole network to fork because of checkpointing, they can cause connection problems. So, if you are resynching for any reason, it's a good idea to take the nodes that Noise23 posted and put them in your tekcoin.conf file. WHILE SYNCHING, these nodes should be put in as "connect=<node ip>".

Once fully synched and in tune with the block explorer (give it ten minutes as it updates every four), then change those to "addnode=<node ip> and restart your client. This will make sure you're on the right chain until fully synched, and then will only discover peers that are correctly synched.

my staking has slowed alot.might see price rise slowly now Cheesy
i am currently using 6 to 7 k blocks.going to make 10 k blocks i think once they stake

That is something I don't understand,  if all of our staking is slowing down..
how is it that we still will be getting 750% ?

Somehow the math doesn't seem right,  difficulty seems to have not been factored in?

Actually it has. I think the wiki addresses this, and we've discussed it in depth, height and breadth here and in IRC Cheesy The conclusion is that the inflation control works, but we ain't sure how it's gonna roll in the future. The max subsidy makes it so that eventually, you'll either be waiting a long time to stake smaller blocks or sacrifice some of the gained interest for speed.

That's the short form. The long form is still being discussed/debated/derided...

Well it will soon be 2015 and in February BA will have their new 14mm replacement hash boards ready for all their customers to swap out in their X1s and X3s. This will mean that X1 customers will be able to hash at 2TH/s and X3 customers will be able to hash at a whopping 40TH/s and making a saving on power consumption to boot! It’s a shame that so many of their customers will not ever experience BAs unprecedented mass prototype, production models and will receive their new units, already converted but then again perhaps it’s for the best!
If I believed a word of it, I wouldn’t of just made it up!.. like I just did.
I’ve been running their stuff for months, I don’t think it’s bad, I genuinely like it. I wish all their customers received their units at the same time I did or even better when BA initially said the miners would be ready.
The way that BA conducts its business quite frankly ‘sucks’,  big time! They wouldn’t dare deny it!
How could anyone, recommend doing any with them?

Quoted for hilarity Cheesy

I could see them trying for a 14 mm spec as if it were toadally awesome Cheesy

"There is so much FUD here," that's rich. If by FUD you mean someone telling you you "fixed" something that wasn't broken, then yes.
All I know is, my investment in this coin has gone to shite, and getting around to a fix in 3 weeks or so probably puts the last nails in the coffin. Investors who express displeasure at seeing their investment destroyed are not purveyors of FUD.

I disagree. We rushed out a fix for TEK instead of planning for a smooth transition, and it was a fucking catastrophe. I offered to help here because I think I can do it, but if Noise is already doing it, that's good.

My thought is that it should be put back to 200 percent for the moment, and THEN adjust NVCS and/or introduce a max subsidy over a couple of staged releases.

Let's not forget that TRK was already declared dead when Noise took over, and that he is not getting paid to do this.
1046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin 500% PoS/PoW hybrid SuperStake on: December 24, 2014, 05:44:15 AM
My client states that I am on block 710119. However http://tek.blockchain.lt/ says Tek is on block 710093. Is this due to the website uploading slower than the client or should I be worried? Those numbers are fairly close.

My client is not currently loaded, however if you are running the current version (2.2) it's automatic checkpointing will correct it in short order if you are on the wrong fork. Or at least it should. It's possible that the block explorer is behind, but it has been pretty accurate of late.

Guys.. does ANYONE else care about what is going on here? There IS a reason im asking. Please speak up. Now IS the time.

So I just looked at Bittrex :0 Volume . This coin is dying, and it seems like everyone is asleep. Maybe you guys need a wake up call? Let me see if I can get your attention. We need VOLUME, and we need it to speak loud. If we dont start getting serious, we are going to find out the TRUE value of this coin. Frankly I dont give a shit about backlash and haters, Ill deal with you too.

Vegas
I don't know enough to fix the code. I know some of it, but I'd probably break the wallet doing it. The rest of the wallet works quite well.
Interim fix, I suppose, would be to lock the minting at 200 percent. I think that's only one or two lines of code. But max subsidy and NVCS, I know nothing about them. I do kind of like the idea posted above at setting interest at 200 and max subsidy at 100 or even 200. That would require people to order their wallets properly or miss out on staking opportunities, and keep the chain moving. It would reward the diligent as well.

I'm willing to take a stab at it in about three days, if Noise doesn't get there first, but I would do so with the caveat that it will wreak havoc if I mess up, so if y'all want me to try, be wary and it might have to be rolled back. I've learned a lot over the last year, but I'm hardly a programmer.

Hello, I need assistance please. I have the latest wallet (2.2.0.0) and this is the error messages I get. It is displayed on the wallet main in the lower left so I went to console and this is what I got. Please help/advise. THANK YOU!!!

Welcome to the tekcoin RPC console.
Use up and down arrows to navigate history, and Ctrl-L to clear screen.
Type help for an overview of available commands.

It means one of two things in my experience. Either you're not fully synced, or you are on a fork. In either case, you can either wait to catch up to the current block height, after which the message will vanish, or you may have to resync from the beginning.

If neither of those fix it, ask Noise23 because my knowledge ends here, unfortunately.

Oh this is going to be bad, there is no adult discussion possible about religion in general, because in the end it's called 'believe', and it's difficult to have a discussion about something that is hard to prove and experience if you are not into it.

In terms of hate, any book, followed by millions that is taken out of context to harm any living thing is something I despise.

The difference is the things you see when you place the religious writings side by side. Then you can see the evidences.

Believe? Do you believe that you can post another comment in this forum? If yes, do you also know it for a fact? Is there the slightest possibility that the electricity might fail right before you hit "Enter?" Is there absolutely no chance that your ISP will fail you right before you hit "Enter?"

You believe lots of things, just like everyone else. But nobody knows for an absolute certainty what will happen until it does.

But seriously, there are different contexts to "belief". I tend to hold that the great humorist Mark Twain got it right when he said that "Faith is the belief in what you know ain't so", as opposed to a belief that, barring a supernova, the sun will tomorrow once again appear to rise in the east due to the rotation of the planet.

You got it, man. The taste of the beer is the evidence that it is quite good. Hope it doesn't kill you to prove that it isn't.

Now that I've started downloading the blockchain (I have 1yr and 85days... remaining), should I just let it go or stop it and delete the "txleveldb" folder and  "blk001.dat" file and then download/install the latest blockchain file, to speed things up?  Where does that go exactly?  I'm still kinda confused.  At least I know what was munging up the wallet... how'd it get corrupted?  Windows 7 shut it down too fast or force quit it or something?

No problem letting it go. It is always best to create your own index file rather then use someone else.

The reason is still a bit of a mystery to me. It has to deal with how leveldb closes and opens files, and when it flushes to disk. I have put code into HBN that knows when win shuts down gracefully and allows the wallet to do so as well. Are you sure it was a normal Win shutdown and not a power failure or other type of shutdown.

I've seen Windows update be anything BUT graceful several times, especially on laptops. Particularly Windows 8/8.1 (which were the inspiration for me moving on to Linux), but it caught me out a couple of times on 7 too. I have since made a rule of making updates NOT be automatic, regardless of how much Windows nags about it. Once started, the process will screw your computer up badly if interrupted, so I find it better to do it on my terms.

There are a lot of cool things about Windows. I used it for nearly it's whole history, and I won't bash it in general, but it seems that Microsoft recently has been out to screw over their users. Either that, or they lost all their talent to the competition. I've not bothered to look at 10, but judging by RT and Windows 8, they seem to want people to move on to Linux or (shudder) OSX.

My 1.5 wallet was working fine last night.  I get up this morning and my laptop is off.  Windows 7 update shut down my laptop... *grumble*.  Power on.  Run HBN wallet Qt.... CRASH!  What the...huh?  Oh, more Windows 7 updates need to go in.  Click Shutdown.  Power on.  Rerun HBN wallet Qt... CRASH!  I really hate Windows sometimes... is there a wallet for Ubuntu or other OS that doesn't have to constantly update and shut down/reboot the computer?  I'd really appreciate that...

What is going on?  I have $100 in HBN I can't get to or see... can't even stake them!

I'd post images of the crash, but not not sure how to here.  If necessary, I can send them via Email.  Just want my wallet working again...

"Bad Windows 7 update... BAD boy!"  [Smack it with a rolled up newspaper]

I run Ubuntu. You have to compile it yourself, but it's fairly simple. PM me if you run into any issues.

How is mining the multipool going? I am going to try and get my little miner pointed over there tonight myself.

I think its great for the start.. no ophrans Smiley
just 658.70 of buy orders volume generated for the last 24H, but I think alot of people are just lazy to reconfigure miners..
With time you will see the amount of tek will be increasing as the number of workers grow!
from Monday it was 14 273 TEK traded and multipool supported TEKcoin for 0,22% of all.. from the start.
we will see more people join their hash

TEKcoin should be promoted as Virtual Miner asset vs hardware and cloud ponzies
peace
P.S>and remember - that tech advances faster then economists realize.. many would say that vrtual assets dont have real value, but tell this to someone from Second life or Mincraft..of whatever
..but there is Mother F.. demand.. and money blow in after that!
dollars have even less real value, yet continue to be one of the two main reserve currencies in the world. And I think by now even Keynesians know the dollar is a ponzi writ humongous.

One more thing about multipools.. thay are always trying to BUY low, so that we will get the best profit.. so when you mine on multipool you:
- you get simplified funds-management with multipool trading on several exchanges and getting the best price for us..
- you dont just mine it with 50/50 ophrans and then DUMP coins on the Market ..You BUY from it, also increasing trading volume - it attracts other traders
- if you ask your self "what I can do for the coin?" - is this - transfer your spare haspower in to TEKcoins value
peace

this is actually an element I'd like to see change. I'd like to see a multipool use it's resources to push the price UP. The customers might not like that in the short term, though, so I'm not sure it would work. But don't you think it would make an interesting experiment?

Now we just need the price to go back up.

Why is the order book on Poloniex stuffed with sell orders of 50-100 HYP?

I´m pretty sure the answer is ¨someone is manipulating the price,¨but I thought I´d ask anyway.

Selling "at market" is a stupid plan. I'd like everyone reading this to read that again. Hell, I'll repeat it. Selling "at market" is a stupid plan. If everyone who has a sell order up would take it down RIGHT NOW and relist at 2K satoshis or higher, do you really think no one would buy?

I didn't sell any here (yet), but decided to start this moving if I can.  I set up a trade on polo for 2000, at 2k sats.  Anyone want to match???

Makes no sense.

1) this will increase the total number of coins for sale which people took at while trading even though it's not near market price.
2) being not anywhere near market price it's not selling anytime soon.
3) why not stake the 2000 thereby getting more HYP and securing the network while reducing the supply for sale?

Somebody has a sell order for over 20K HYP @8880 sats. Grin Grin
If enough people refuse to sell at sub 2K, it creates a floor. Anyone wanting in at any quantity will have to hit or raise that floor. Trading and Poker have a lot in common. It's a game, and I play to win. Besides, 2800 HYP isn't a big dent in my stash. When my next four blocks stake (which should have already happened, but HYP is weird about big blocks) I will have nearly doubled that. Pushing the market a bit is both fun and (potentially) profitable.

We'll all probably get away with it (staking small'ish blocks) for another month or so, but I'm guesstimating that soon enough, we'll stop worrying about hitting the cap, and start worrying about having enough size/weight to stake before reaching 30 days maturity.
Personally, my block sizes are anything between 2K ~ 4K at the moment, but by the end of the month I'll be aiming at 3K+ blocks.
I just realised this could prove bad for network security, since bigger blocks => less block => less security.

I'd like your input on this. Extending max age or removing it altogether (like Blackcoin was the first to do, I think) would alleviate this issue and would lead to ever-diminishing blocks (and would require a hard fork). Difficulty would rise exponentially.
OTOH, after a transition phase from small blocks to large blocks during which network security would be reduced, we would again gain network security because inflation would lead to more block. Security/Difficulty would increase smaller, though (the larger the blocks, the smaller the difficulty rise).

Opinions?

I have no math to back this, but my take is that it will make little difference to security. Large blocks will stake faster, small blocks will take longer, but the network will continue to adjust to meet the time per block specifications. I suspect we'll see wild swings in difficulty as people figure out the optimum (for them) method of staking, but that over time it will stabilize. I'm not fully versed in the difficulty adjustment specs for HyperStake, but I believe it readjusts with every block, so the security risk is minimal.

All f this would be much easier if there were a God. Then she could tell us who is right. But since these are actually ideas of men, it always comes down to my invisible sky man is better than your invisible sky man. No one has more blood on his hands than God.

Evidence for God includes:
1. The complexity of the universe combined with the entropy that exists therein;
2. The fact that there isn't any pure random, rather everything exists through cause and effect;
3. And the fact that many millions have experienced the Spirit of God in their hearts.
Put these together. Investigate and think about them deeply. You will see that God is not simply a man in the sky.

The blood God has on His hands is the blood of His Son, Jesus, Who shed His blood on the cross, willingly, so that mankind has the opportunity to be saved from eternal entropy. God is as He is called, God. Because of what He made people to be, this was the only way to save any of them when they condemned themselves. He can do it because He is God. Even the blood on His hands is righteous.

When are you going to look at these things in detail so that you stop condemning yourself?

Smiley

I have. I was once a Christian minister. The deeper I looked the deeper down the rabbit hole the questions went.

As Spendulus noted, this is way off topic so I'm not going to pursue it in depth here. But Christianity's mythology is MUCH older than Christianity, and the language of the first book of the Christian bible is openly polytheistic. It's origins are Sumerian, and more specifically, Babylonian. The Jewish culture was an offshoot of Babylon. Much of their mythology is disproven, even historically.

Further, though, let's look at the Jesus myth. The idea that Neil and Bob did a crime, but it's ok now, because we took Jesus and crucified him. If that's "divine justice", then the very idea of divine justice is without merit. And that's just how ridiculous it is on it's surface. Go deeper, it gets more ridiculous.

That the Universe operates according to internally consistent "laws" is not in itself evidence for, or against, a god or grand creator. Even the proven FACT of evolution does not negate or prove the God concept, though Christians seem to think it does.

What I can state with as close to absolute certainty as you can get in a philosophical discussion is that if there is a god, or even many gods, then they do not want the worship and adoration of the insignificant humans on a third rate planet orbiting a minor star in the eastern fringe of a minor galaxy. I state this because if there are such, and they did so desire, it would not be up for debate. It would be made plain and obvious.

Given the above, which I hold to be axiomatic, there are really only a few conclusions. Three that I can see.

One: There are gods, but they don't care beyond the act of creation. This is consistent with your points.

Two: There are gods, but they are not as powerful as religious people claim, and thus they cannot prove their existence to us. This negates all religions that posit a god.

Three: There are no gods.

Given that I see all three possibilities as equally valid, I follow no religion. I do not believe there are gods, thus I am an atheist. I cannot prove there are no gods, thus I am an agnostic. This is also an answer to Ume, as he made some claims about atheism that are patently false. Atheism is a term largely coined by the religious. While there is a small subset of those who do not believe in gods who do indeed make the positive claim that there are no gods, they are a minority. Most atheists are like me. We simply do not believe in gods. We do not take a stand of faith that there certainly are no gods, but we demand extraordinary proof before we will entertain the idea as anything more than outdated explanations posited by primitive men prior to having better tools.

The burden of proof is on the persons making a claim, and extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs.

hi all , just a small comment about the market .
things are moving on Polo and this is good.
All we need is more pressure on the sell orders, so please for the ones how have some HYP on polo, remove your orders and stake !!!!
There is no point to sell at this current price, panic sell has already passed.
Thanx to presstab, david and the others for being faithful to HYP.

What incited the panic sell anyways? All I assumed it was the price was super high so people started cashing out....

Never look for logic in a panic. The two are incompatible. There was NO fundamental change in HyperStake or it's development. Just the usual continual improvements and tweaks. Somebody, somewhere, got their panties in a wad, and ten other idiots followed suit, which attracted a bunch of other idiots which propelled me into the top 250 on the Richlist. Fun as that was, I'm out of BTC, and tired of the idiots controlling the market. I'm not ready to sell yet, and will not be until I have at least 100K HYP. When I am, I'll list 25% across two markets, possibly three. I will not list for less than 2K sats, and if it sits and rots, so be it. If a bunch of us do that, it won't.

I am getting the following error when I try to build the wallet under ubuntu. I am using the linux .pro file. I'm probably missing a dependency, but I can't figure out what it is. Any clues?

Code:
blockbrowser.cpp:(.text._ZN15Ui_BlockBrowser7setupUiEP7QWidget[_ZN15Ui_BlockBrowser7setupUiEP7QWidget]+0x19d3): undefined reference to `QWebView::setUrl(QUrl const&)'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [techcoin-qt] Error 1

I have not yet gotten around to updating the Linux pro file or the Linux documentation.

You will need to add "QT += webkit" to the pro file.

You also may need to install QtWebKit (apt-get install libqt5webkit5-dev)

Hope this helps.
Where in the .pro file do I add that? I do have QTWebKit already. Just put it on a line by itself, or does it need to be in a specific place?

Putting it in a line by itself near the top should work.  When compiling on Mac I added it directly below QMAKE_CXXFLAGS = -fpermissive at the bottom of the first group of code.

Same result. Is there any other webkit related dependencies I need? Or is this thing just hating on me Tongue The wallet I have is still working fine, but the new one looks cool. I want!
