I believe he will wait for the prices to get lower down, and yes the people who are using bitcoins since long time they can still afford to buy as they have already made profits out of it, but for the newbie I don't think its a right time to buy.

I was a n00b the first time the price hit $400. Your advice would have been bad then and I think it's probably bad now.

I agree, this may be the last time to get coins sub 500
The next ATH will make the last one look like peanuts

 We all hope!

Give it a week and you'll be able to get them for sub $250 again.

I'm going with a bit higher than that, but I think overall you're right. Then again with China imposing capital controls and the continuing meltdown in Greece, We could both be totally wrong Tongue

Something got screwed up in the Block explorer's database again. It's reindexing. It unfortunately will take several hours to completely rebuild the database. Wish I had better news, but I tried the faster fixes already Tongue

Update. The server is giving me some issues, I am going to reboot. Miners, expect an interruption right about now.

Hey guys,

Are there any block delays on GMC?

Steak Cloud payouts are delayed.

Overnight there were a few blocks with greater than ten minute times, but the network itself is sound. However, the Block Explorer is having an issue. Not sure what yet, I'm investigating. It should be fixed within the hour if it's what I think it is.

i have shares rewarded 47,88%
i will get paid in the future for these shares?

Maybe yes.  Maybe no.  Luck is luck.

Generally, though, if you continuously mine, as mentioned previously, your shares rewarded will tend towards 100% and land in the upper 90s% over time.  If you get a low shares rewarded over a short period, then quit mining, chances are much smaller of getting a higher shares rewarded percentage.

Well, you keep talking about long term averages. Define long term, please. In finances long term is >1year.
I am telling you that I had one machine working almost constantly for 1 year with 94% average (this machine stopped working just before the recent calamity) and another working with some gaps for >1 year with 91.6% now (and still going down from the same 94% three weeks ago)
So here are my facts. I don't know what is causing a difference between expected 98% and 94% that I see. I would discount 91.6% (from 94) to bad luck in the last 2-3 weeks, but I won't discount 94 vs 98% expected.

What could be a potential cause?
I would like to hear possible explanation re this. Could it be that extended payout times caused it (because of higher probability of hitting an orphan during non-pay period)? Something else?

Hard to say without seeing the actual stats.  If you PM me the addresses of the accounts in question I'd gladly look into it.

My guess is that your definition of "almost constantly" isn't as close to constantly as needed and that the gaps in mining coincided with periods of good luck for the pool.  In that case, as an example, lets say you're mining away, the pool hits a long block or a few long blocks in a row and you quit mining for a bit or pool hop or whatever causes you not to be mining on Eligius.  No biggie.  However, then while you're away, after all of your shares are shelved (buried under active miners), the pool hits some quick/lucky blocks.  Well, you'd left, so your shelved shares are buried under the people actively mining, and perhaps don't get fully reached, thus throwing your percentage off with a bias towards less shares rewarded.  Then you come back and start mining again, you didn't get paid for anything for the lucky rounds that weren't quite lucky enough to pay your shelved shares.  So, this biases your shares rewarded percentage to be worse.

Likewise, the opposite can happen during a lucking time artificially showing higher shares rewarded.

Thank you for your kind offer. I will sent the address in PM in a few sec.
Would be very curious of your analysis.

I haven't mined BTC in quite a while, but when I did, it was almost always here, with a failover to eclipse PPS and guild. I rarely failed over. I never actually calculated my percentage/luck, but I did watch my bottom line. Almost without exception, even with a tiny mining rig, my payouts were significantly higher from eligius, even vs the "luckless" PPS system. (5% fee can eat a lot of profits Cheesy )

Eligius is a pretty small pool on today's market. I really doubt that there is anything more sinister than that going on. The majority of the hashpower will, on average, have better luck overall simply BECAUSE it's the majority. If y'all want more consistent results on Eligius, talk more miners into pointing their rigs here.

this is a bit strange suggestion. You could say that it would be smoother and less "lumpy", but i doubt that you can say that it would be higher in the long run.
re pointing more rigs-it is a catch-22 situation.

It is probably a misstatement of the math, I am just saying that more shovels make a bigger hole. When you have enough hashpower to get a significant portion of the blocks, the end result will be better in the short run. Long term, as I understand it, it should all even out. But long term is an extremely variable term.

Made it brighter, how's this?

I think the light source is kind of behind the object.. the logo is in the slight shadow... just like on my avatar lol
peace

I suspect your monitor Cheesy It looks slightly dark on cryptsy compared to the full size image, but it looks good. Didn't look grey at all to my old eyes. Very nice logo, and I was a fan of the old one.

I had to rebuild the database last week, and things are still not entirely stable. If you look to the lower right, you'll almost always see the correct block height, but thanks for bringing this to my attention. It corrected itself, but sometimes it don't. I'm working on porting Insight instead of using Iquidus. Iquidus is easy to configure and looks great, but it can be awful twitchy sometimes Cheesy I do realize that when it's reindexing, you can't trace specific transactions. This should be totally corrected right now, but again, I'm going to a more robust software for the future.

If Bitcoin wasn't banned during the Silk Road fiasco then I find it very improbable that they will ban it now that it's accepted by companies like Microsoft, eBay and others. Plus there are a lot of other companies and billionaires that invested large sums on it. However, the nature of digital currencies and "anonymous" transactions will always appeal to money laundering activities in my opinion so it's not out of the question.

I actually find this "argument" as presented in mainstream media (when they touch BTC at all) as kind of silly. Any arbitrary moment of actual thought would illustrate to even a Democrat that the most used currency in criminal activity is the US dollar.

VPN/Tunnel systems. Are they safe to use with cryptocoin wallets though?

By that I mean could something get lost in encryption/translation like a capital letter appearing as a lower case letter in a wallet address?

That happened to me once when I saved an essay from an OpenOffice document into Wordpad. If VPN/Tunnel systems are safe in this respect and provide immaculate translation, then they would provide a great security boost and be well worth the moderate annual fee.

Anyone use them on a computer storing their wallet?

At one of my jobs, I use a vpn to connect to our servers, two different ones. Never had a problem other than occasionally the connection timing out. I've never used a vpn tunnel to spoof my location, so I can't specifically answer your question. However, I do visually check every address I use. There comes a time in every man's life when paranoia ceases to be a neurosis and becomes a survival tactic.

EDIT: For Justin Case, I'd probably send a very small amount the first try.

why not lie and say you don't live in NY

Because you can put an IP into an internet search and it will give the location.
The free ones are within a couple miles and the gov can request the street address
from the service provider, if the volume was large enough for them to bother

Maybe when Tek goes back up in price I can move to another state with all my Tek earnings  Grin
Use a VPN/Tunnel system. Not real expensive, and your IP will be wherever you want it to be.

Little update on my 2K block experiment. About half the blocks have staked, ranging from 10 to 12 days. Not bad at all Cheesy
474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Hi-PoS hybrid pos/pow no premine/ipo/ico on: October 18, 2015, 05:56:07 AM
Just a thought,

Instead of changing it so smaller blocks don't stake,
why not change it so that tekcoin can earn interest every 10 or 15 days instead of 30 .

Even if the difficulty makes it so you only earn 20 % or less , if you are able to stake more frequently it could make up for it.
At 10 days , you could make as little as 13.33% , but x 3 = 40%
or at 15 days , you could make ~20% , but x 2  = ~40%

Plus it would be a good draw for people that like faster staking coins.

 Cool

For me, this would be the wrong move. The longer period is part of the charm of the coin to my way of thinking. There are a lot of fast staking coins, several of which I'm involved in. TEK is the one that sits in the back and does it's thing. I like that.

I agree with Thundertoe on microstaking. I do think it might be a bit unfair for the really small holder, but the fact is that at this moment, 1K is not a lot of money. It's what, .02 BTC more or less? If you really are after the staking, not just day trading, it's not a big deal to accumulate 1000 TEK. And after the first 90 days, with the diff not driving the return into the basement, it'll level out.

I've been out of town for a couple days, so if any of you noticed that the block explorer is messed up, I'm on it Cheesy

Not sure what happened, the daemon is fully in sync and correct, but something got fubar in the database. It's reindexing now. It should be good in about two hours from this post.

Any working pool
Please Huh??..

If ten or more of you will mine it, I'll put one up. Let me know. It will take me about a week from the time y'all say "go". It doesn't take that long to make it, it'll just take me that long to make time and get a server Cheesy
477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Hi-PoS hybrid pos/pow no premine/ipo/ico on: October 10, 2015, 04:01:01 AM
I would propose a tiered approach to the max, instead of totally denying small blocks. This is off the top of my head, not well thought out, but something like this: 1000, max stake, 900 -10%, 800 -20%, 700 -30%, 600 -40%, 500 -50%, 400 -60%, 300 -70%,
200 or less, no stake.

This gives an incentive to the large holders to not game the system, and to the small holders to combine blocks as they stake.

As another possibility, put that in, but also make something that polls wallet.dat and if the whole balance is less than 200, let it stake at full power. That could be gamed, but it would take a lot of resources (multiple data directories, etc) and likely be unprofitable.

Whaddya think?

Cryptsy isnt staking or microstaking, some users are. Plus coinfire is a joke.

I totally disagree about coinfire. Biased, dishonest, idiotic and frequently painful, but not a joke. Jokes are funny.
479  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [CLOSED] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: October 09, 2015, 05:40:46 AM
A few larger NMC withdrawals got hung up because the hot wallet ran out.  It will be refilled tonight and the withdrawals that failed will be re-processed.

Obviously, the 9/30/15 original shutoff date is being extended because of how many people decided to wait until September 20th+ to log into their accounts.  The exact length of extension hasn't been determined yet.

I rarely mined your pool, but it was a good experience when I did. But this is beyond the pale. How do you live with yourself? You're supposed to scam them damn coins and tell everyone to piss off!

Humour aside, everyone should take note of this. This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you close a business if you must. Eleuthria, you are a gentelman and a scholar.

UPDATE TIME

I promised an update, and here it is Cheesy

As most of you know, we have made integration into games via the webwallet, which was pretty damn simpleminded. We are now working on a much expanded version of the webwallet to include:

  • market average
  • a documented API for third party integration
  • PayPal integration so you can purchase GMC in game and in wallet
  • 2fa- probably via Google Authenticator

The integration for games will be in a similar style to Paypal's "buy with paypal" button, and will be easy for a developer to put into any game they wish to integrate into the wallet system. Our aim is to make this so simple that no other system for in-game monetization will even interest developers. Whether we're actually that good or not, who knows? But we will certainly find out.

If any of you reading this thread are or know game developers, please by all means contact the GMC team with any and all suggestions. We will GLADLY work with third party developers to make this a monster Cheesy

And here's one from the team:
