41  Economy / Services / Re: [FYI] Promote yourself - I wil add your listing to my online directory on: June 24, 2014, 07:37:17 PM
Hey all,

If you sell services for bitcoin, I'd be glad to add your website to a directory I'm building. Hopefully when I have enough listings, I'll update with site address, etc....It's not finished yet =)

Just post in this thread or PM me with your URL & I'll add your site. If you don't have a site, post your linkedin, github profile page, FB, etc...

If you want to list some other data (public only please), I will look at adding that to the listing so it shows up how you want.

Thanks!

I promote things on twitter for BTC with my venture:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=367564 as well as selling adspace on my travel blog for BTC here:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=430845.0 Would appreciate the help Smiley
42  Economy / Services / [WTS] Rent one line of my signature each for 0.25BTC month on: June 24, 2014, 07:34:57 PM
I have 2 more lines of my signature to rent out for 1 month and since I want to be paid upfront (for the sake of convenience and to be assured that I won't be screwed over by non-paying people like what happened before).

I'm looking to finance (and expand) my mini business on eBay as well as support a good cause (@seaofchangefilm on twitter) as I want to get a great, world changing film financed (this is the 2nd installment for the Sea of Change film campaign covering issues of mental health and some other issues related to this-TBD) as the previous film was very successful (I don't have a copy but my colleagues do) and getting world acclaim everyday in more countries everyday (mostly viewed by govt's and politicians-the very people we need to change things and have the power to do so). This is the main reason I couldn't spend much time here last year since I was asked to edit the film and manage certain aspects of production (intensive but rewarding work).

I'm asking 0.25BTC since the value isn't too high for BTC yet (so I'm having to ask for more BTC to make the same amount of GBP).The signature must be font size 10 (to fit the lines and allow it to co-exist with the other signatures without pushing out the other signatures in place, since I always host multiple signatures to boost revenue).

The only kind of signatures I don't want are those linked to adult sites, scam sites or those with offensive content (as I have a reputation to maintain as a pro filmmaker online) but everything else is ok with me.

Is there anyone who's interested?First one who makes a good offer get's a small discount (10%). Thanks Smiley
43  Economy / Services / Re: Escrow Needed... Will Pay 2% Fee. on: June 24, 2014, 07:17:33 PM
I've always wanted to see how escrow works and I thought that there's no better way than volunteering my services as an escrow myself so I can understand the process better (as well as do a good deed and help people out).I'm hero member with all successful transactions (including many that took place before the trust system was in place here,eBay and many other sites).

I can accept the 2% fee as it sounds fair to me.You can keep me in mind for the future (also how to advertise my services as an escrow on here?) Smiley

Edit:Just read that the transaction will be done by web money which is something I don't have (I prefer BTC/LTC/DOGE escrow only as I have those setup).Good luck and have a nice evening Smiley
44  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what should I do with 0.20247 bitcoins? on: June 24, 2014, 07:04:26 PM
You should invest in other coins, and profit from trading on exchanges (if you're good with investing) or if you want an easier solution, save it and wait for the coins to appreciate in value (not right away but be paitent as BTC has a boom-bust cycle.I'm holding on to mine for that reason since the market is in a state of flux at the moment, not at the peak but not crashing either).

I think that if you're a gambler, try the stock market since you have a better chance of making some returns (vs gambling with no guarantee of winning it back).

If you're feeling charitable, find someone who can benefit from your donations and help them out a little. I hope my suggestions help you OP Smiley
45  Economy / Trading Discussion / I want to improve my mining contracts business on: June 23, 2014, 08:15:18 PM
I've been wondering for a while where I should ask for feedback since I was looking to see if some of my customers on eBay who buy mining contracts from me,can give me some feedback on a few things.Since I want to increase sales/revenue to help good causes on top of covering running costs, etc I was hoping I can ask for feedback as well as advice on how to improve the business so it can be successful.

Look for film22400 on eBay (since eBay won't let me have film2240 as it's the same as my email address) to find my contracts and other items for sale.

I used to sell contracts with 470Kh/s hashpower (within 20% tolerance since I can never be sure about what's being reported on the customers pool),now I've moved onto selling 1.1Mh/s hashpower contracts as pre-orders since I'm looking to fund the expansion more easily.

The thing is I don't know what sort of pricing is acceptable for the amount of hashpower offered in GBP,as I charge whatever people are willing to pay for now but make clear that I'm working with/supporting good causes (like @seaofchangefilm on Twitter).Thing is I want to change the way I do business so I can get more customers/sales/revenue (to finance good causes) as I feel my current approach is counter productive.

Here's what I offer customers:
1.A chart/spreadsheet detailing availability of contracts (since there's usually a queue when sales come in).
2.A PDF detailing my policies (a recent change but this also needs feedback and refinement before it comes into effect in July).
3.Mining contract within 20% of advertised hashpower as I don't want complaints/don't know what info other pools report to my customers.
4.Support good causes
5.Friendly,professional,courteous and helpful customer service.

I'm looking forward to some advice from people who are more experienced with running a successful business.Keep the feedback contructive (no trolls). Thanks Smiley
46  Economy / Services / Re: Get your own Alt-Coin | Super discount on X11/X13 + PoS | 0.5 BTC only on: June 23, 2014, 12:29:52 PM
I worked with this guy (OP) and I can give a review. He's a great guy to work with in terms of communication form start to finish which is great considering I know nothing about making my own coin and so I relied on him to set all the parameters for me (algorithm, block reward, block time, name, symbol, etc) and he did.I had to put the project on hold since I couldn't continue with it due to my circumstances so asked for a refund and I got it (even though I forgot to give him my BTC address lol).

His handling of refunds for circumstances like mine was great and would recommend him (I left your feedback quite sometime ago but still it deserves a mention). In short my experience was great.

If you really want to get a coin made,be sure to pay him a visit. Smiley
47  Economy / Trading Discussion / Curious about spending my BTC abroad in normal shops on: June 23, 2014, 11:31:30 AM
I've been thinking about this a lot lately since I'll be travelling abroad later this summer in Spain and was wondering a few things:
1.How can I use my BTC wallet to pay for things in a real shop (not online),e.g If I wanted to buy a coffee, nice food or souvenirs how can I go about this?
2.Is it worth ditching travel money (Euros) in favour of using just BTC from my phone's wallet (since it has contactless payments for both real money/BTC/LTC/DOGE) with the expectation that BTC will grow in popularity in countries that have more favourable regulations towards BTC vs countries like UK/US which seem to focus on restricting the use of BTC?Or am I asking too much for now?
3.How can I find out which shops accept BTC in real life in Spain? Is there an online directory or am I having to just hope that they support it.
4.I've always wondered about changing all my contactless phone payments from normal payments (with GBP/EUR in my case) to just paying in BTC/LTC/DOGE for a week on the basis that I can get a lot of good material for a future film project I plan to make as an experiment on how virtual currencies are changing the world in real life (apart from how great the technology is/idealism behind it as real use applications make or break ideas) as I was previously too reluctant to even use BTC on the basis that I can easily lose money (due to lack of understanding of wallet security on my phone).

Since I wasn't sure about whether or not this experiment should even be attempted, let alone embraced,I thought I ask the community for thoughts and advice first. Smiley
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [GUIDE] GridSeed 5-Chip USB & Blade Miner Support/Tuning on: June 21, 2014, 02:38:11 PM
Just thought I'd post here since I'm looking for a solution to reduce the fan speed on my Gridseed mini to the lowest speed it'll go down to as the noise is very problematic for me but since I use this in Scrypt mode, heat isn't an issue for me.

How can I silence the fan without disabling it (as this will make it harder for me to sell off later) as I don't want to worry about anything?

Is there a straightforward mod I can do just for the fan? I'm not looking to volt mod this since my hands are not steady and could risk damaging the miner.Maybe a idea of what resistor to use depending on how low I want the fan speed to be?Thanks. Smiley
49  Other / Off-topic / Re: What exactly is the most important thing in our life? on: June 20, 2014, 05:53:50 PM
Existential crisis huh?

The short answer is the meaning that we give it. No-one else can dictate what is important in your life but you.

From an evolutionary standpoint it is clear to see a few things that you may find compelling.

Many would argue that we are defined by our relationships to other people and that we can find meaning through them.

This is one of those questions that each person can only answer for themselves.

I seek to find people out there that are like me and think in similar ways. I want to improve humanity. I want to do something that makes it better for other people in the future. I want to take a part in making things right.

There is no wrong answer.
Sounds a lot like me in a way.Very interesting Smiley

52  Other / Off-topic / Looking to get in touch with someone on: June 20, 2014, 05:20:50 PM
It's been at least 2 years (I think) when I first saw someone post on my old blog (www.film2240.wordpress.com which I no longer use now) by the name of paulzag (as he's a film producer and I would like to get in touch with him) with this comment http://film2240.wordpress.com/projects/#comment-38 (you can ignore the rest).

Since I haven't seen him for a longtime and since he mentioned that he saw my posts on here,I thought maybe posting here might help me find him as well as help him get in touch with me.

I'm looking for help in finding leads on this as I thought if you can do everything else on this forum, why not find someone as well?

Thanks for understanding and have a nice day. Smiley
53  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: No ROI on future Mining, its a FACT! on: June 20, 2014, 11:11:54 AM
Everyone should stop mining. And buy bitcoins instead.  Smiley

I'd really wish people would just stop mining for a while, that way the difficulty will drop significantly, buy BTC and then when the difficulty is much lower, mine again and you profit in both ways, more mined BTC and returns from the BTC you bought as well.

But I'm also sure that until the big mining operations stop (like companies, data centres, large scale mining farms) there's not much point in normal people stopping their mining operations either.
54  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S1 Soon at a Loss - What to do With It? on: June 20, 2014, 11:05:10 AM
I think you should just sell it since the longer you leave it the value of the miner will depreciate more, meaning less of a return for you.I think just sell it for as much as you can, then when the S3 comes out or another suitable miner comes out, just buy it and profit from it again. Smiley
55  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why have you joined Bitcoin? on: June 20, 2014, 10:56:30 AM
My main focus was to make as much money as I can,as easily as possible (mining-set it and forget it). That was until the difficulty rose to ridiculous levels and my GPU was unprofitable meaning that mining was no longer easy money as I was stuck mining alt-coins,finding an exchange to convert them all into BTC,then find a UK exchange that was still open (Intersango before the UK banks shut down their exchange account or that's what they say) to cash out.

I also hoped that I can get a film made one day about my journey with Bitcoin since it was apparent I entered during an interesting time in BTC life (May 2011),just before the crash, rise of alt coins/FPGAs/ASICs,etc.

I also wanted an oppourtunity to earn my way in a really difficult job market (UK) for graduates and since BTC seemed to fit the bill as no govt/employer can restrict BTC in any way for me,I went onto it (there's none of this,'sorry you're not hired',etc.BTC just needs basic computer skills to setup the GUI miner and the relevant hardware, cash).I hope to setup a huge mining farm one day.

Got scammed out of some of my BTC in the Lending section here so not too pleased with it so my confidence in BTC really dropped as there's no protection (like a credit card/PayPal for me) or anyway to get it back so I only see BTC as a way to make money and that's it.

I have since setup a mining contracts business with my 2 Gridseed ASICs (5 chip miners) as this is more profitable for me than mining alt-coins to change into BTC myself. Smiley
56  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's wrong with eating meat? on: June 20, 2014, 10:45:19 AM
Just stumbled across this thread am thought I'd be interested in knowing more about vegans since someone I know became a vegan a few months ago but am unsure what the effects are on the body hence why I'm confused and whether or not people go vegan for ideological reasons (PETA/animal rights, etc) or for reasons relating to health I don't really know.

As I noticed that this person lost a fair amount of weight and seemed happy about it as a result of switching to a vegan diet but are there downsides to this that I don't know about?

I would like to get more informed about people who are vegans hence why I'm posting here. Thanks Smiley
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Need help in setting up Raspberry Pi with my Scrypt ASICs on: June 10, 2014, 08:52:40 PM
Got an update for you.Looks like the whole thing failed in the end as ever since I switched over to the Raspberry PI,I've recieved too many complaints from customers of near complete loss of hashrate so am now forced to retreat for now and stick to using my laptop to manage them (since there's no prior issues unlike the old PC and Raspberry Pi).

Does anyone know of how to get this thing working, including stabilising the wi-fi?As I need to start from scratch now with this.Help would be appreciated at this stage.Smiley
58  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [StarMiner] - ARM controller image for your ASIC mining needs! on: June 10, 2014, 12:59:00 PM
I'm glad I found this thread.I'm not sure about some things.

1.How do I get the GUI to show and make it stay there?
2.How do I get wi-fi to work on this,if this works at all?
3.Does this support a DualMiner ASIC?
4.Does this support the Gridseed 5 chip (orb) miner?

Would appreciate some help before I commit to using this ROM. Thanks Smiley

For clarification purposes, StarMiner is not a "ROM" nor "firmware" (both terms have been commonly misused by both hardware manufacturers and community members).  This is an "image file" that is parallel (for example) to one installing Linux on a Raspberry Pi.  We just simplified the process by making sure that this image runs both Gridseed and Zeus Miner ASIC units, and eventually Scriptor 8X FPGA units. Smiley

To answer your questions in order:
  • StarMiner does not use a GUI "per se" from the Raspberry Pi itself.  There is a webUI which is accessible by going to a web browser (e.g., Firefox, Chrome, IE (yuk!), Safari) and going to the IP address of the StarMiner Raspberry Pi.  This is "our GUI" and is focused on the specific aspects of ASIC mining for the "end user" without "extras" that could get any "curious George" type end user into trouble. Wink
  • WiFi can work on the Raspberry Pi via the command line and using wicd-curses.  However, not all USB wifi dongles will work with a Raspberry Pi.  Please refer to this site for more specifics related to "Raspberry Pi friendly" Wifi devices.
  • StarMiner "could", however and to prevent people from damaging their Gridseed Mini and Blade units, we compiled and configured cgminer for "scrypt only".  Looking at the "operation costs", you are actually wasting power trying to "dual mine" with a Gridseed Mini ASIC versus just scrypt mine with it.
  • By the "Gridseed 5 chips (orb)", if you mean the "Gridseed Mini" (as it is commonly referred to), then yes. Cool

There is also more information and further discussions on our LitecoinTalk forum thread for further review, as well as our SourceForge site under Wiki and Discussion, both of which are "work in progress".

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Happy and profitable mining to all! Cool

Thanks a lot for that.I only used the term ROM as that's what I grew up with,to refer to anything that needs flashing to a device, like firmware on my smartphone, router, etc but I can now accept that ROM will simply cause confusion so I'll refer to this as image from now on.

Since wi-fi isn't switched on out of the box,I'm a little put off by this due to my lack of familarity of using linux in general (I use a mac as I moved away from windows as I was still required to use command line to make some things work whereas with a mac, everything is simplified for me to work with with no command line to worry about).

I'm happy to know that my gridseed ASICs are supported.I was confused by the name as I've never heard of them being referred to as the Gridseed Mini before (I was told they were Gridseed 5-chip miners).

I want something as simple as my mac to start running the system. Here's how (first time) setup works for a mac user since apparently ease of use doesn't seem to be addressed as much as I thought it would:
1.Plug in to the mains
2.Switch on
3.Log in with my Apple ID (Does all the basic setup for me as well as create my profile, migrate important info/settings)
4.Agree with the TOS (may be a few pages, just click 'agree')
5.Connect to wi-fi (as wi-fi works out of the box and sometimes you can even skip this step if connected to wifi before login)
6.I'm done and ready to go.

I'm not planning to dualmine,I was simply referring to a type of device (in Scrypt only mode) Cheesy

I'm the kind of user who just wants to get his work done quickly hence why I prefer and love macs without having to worry about setup. The reason I don't like windows/Linux systems is they take far too long for me to setup as time is money as both a professional video editor and a mining contract seller.

I think you need to remind your developer team the importance of understanding that time is money to some members of it's target audience as I'm not happy with such a basic feature being overlooked.I also expect a GUI (system wide, not me having to remember IP addresses/web addresses, etc to access an online webpage as no internet=no control).

However if you can sell me an SD card with a prepared image for me to just switch on,connect to wifi and go,I'll be happy to buy one as I can't buy one of your kits (as I'm in the UK and I only want the SD card anyway).

I hope my feedback is helpful to your developer team as I think as it is,leaves a lot to be desired for me.
