You should state how many readers you have, pageviews, and what exactly you write about on the blog.

I can certainly mention what I write about on the blog but I'm not too sure how popular is with the readers and how many I have.Page views are unknown for me as I'm not sure how to find that out.

Sign up for a Google Analytics account. It will tell you everything you need to know about your readers and traffic. Its free.

Signed up to it.Waiting for results now.just found that wordpress.com has a dashboard containing,no of viewer, what links are followed and on what days,weeks,months,e.tc.It also ranks the most popular articles of the day in question.

I'm thinking that more diverse content is the way to go like the entry I linked to from my blog about Ron Paul can win the election (possibly) as quite a few people on here think of him highly (and I don't blame them,I happen to support him this time.)

Will cutting prices help sell ad space? As I just slashed 50% off asking price (one off fee)

Content seems to range from:film works, personal galleries,game/gadget reviews, misc and random content (bitcoin stuff is a recent addition). I wonder if a person pays a 1 off fee for ad space or pays me based on popularity as I'd prefer a one off fee to simplify things for me as I'm uncertain about the popularity of the blog.

thanks for the tip though.

Then I would forget about ads.  You are getting horse before the cart.  Advertisers want a massive amount of repeat traffic.  Sounds like you have none or negligble.  The value of that is negligible.

Work on writing something people find valuable, increasing traffic, and getting software to track your traffic.  Then when (more likely if) you ever get decent traffic you can think about advertising.

http://andrewchenblog.com/2008/04/07/5-factors-that-determine-your-advertising-cpm-rates/

Website advertising is very cheap.  Rates tend to be $1 CPM ($1 for 1000 views of an ad).  Pay per click tends to work out to far less than that.  So if hypothetically 100 people visit your blog a month even if someone was interested (which unless it is targeted they won't be) you are talking about $0.10 in revenue.

Build a good website FIRST then look to monetize it.

I've always had issues with having a popular website.I've made lots of them for the past few years and not much luck I'm afraid.I discovered that the only thing I'm good at is being moderately good at filmmaking/game playing.Website development/good article writing has never been a strength for me (although I'm still working on those). When i heard that any website could be monetized,I was happy and jumped on board but then no payment.BTC made web monetizing easy for me finally but seems that the lack of interest issue was never solved on my sites.

Now I don't know what to think about anything I create on the web/or of BTC in general.BTC made payment much simpler for me to accept.I just don't understand these things anymore.I just wanted to sell one off ads to boost my ratings and fund improvements to the site.Maybe lowering prices may help.I think that lowering prices will be much easier for me.I could use the help of someone who can review the content on my site and help me make it better for people via PM or on here,as I'm at a loss of what to do now.

I guess the best thing is never give up.

UPDATE:I've discounted all ad space slots by 50%.(offer expires 5/1/2012)

i think I may just wait for reliable results to be published.I then hope to republish them onto my blog so a hardware review can be done without too much trouble (due credit from the original review will of course be given) if he/she oks me republishing it.

I wonder how review sites can get a free GPU for testing purposes as that would help with the hardware review on my blog?
985  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Turn on the server, it's cold inside. (New York Times) on: December 27, 2011, 09:23:36 PM
My PC (desktop) has only 1 Radeon Hd6950 but when it's mining away,it can heat up my entire flat in less than 30 mins (and even then it's unconfortably hot). The card is heavily OC'd as well and can get a little noisy but that waste heat heats up my flat instead of using 2 more wasteful room heaters (provided by flat). The power use is just under 300W when mining from the wall.

Here's a headline for ya,1 computer heats up entire flat in 30 minutes. :-)

Here's a headline for you: some dude claims three 100-W light bulbs heat up his entire flat.

Reputable as any headline you read in the mass media.

Ok,so you're comparing me to the mass media.Fine, but to be honest it's not that big of a place so heating solely by a PC that mines bitcoins is plausable when it's not too cold. Also those results were obtained in mid-Oct in UK climate (slightly cold outside but tolerable just before things get Icy).

Now I'm not saying that this'll always be the case (of heating up the flat) as different parts of the world have different climates. Please understand that I was just having a sense of humour about something that is true for me but funny as well (as normally 1 PC doesn't heat up the entire flat this easily).

Hi,
I'm looking to sell ad space on my blog.I'm looking for some quick tips/gauge interest from people who may wish to advertise. There is a separate section dedicated for Ads so that the rest of the blogs content isn't in the way basically plus the ads won't annoy my readers.I'm wondering like, whats the going rate for the various ad types/sizes (standard, large and very large known as premium on there) that I can sell these for?

The ads will be hosted here:http://film2240.wordpress.com/ads/
I need help from people to make sure that:
1.The TOS is clear and fair (may still need some tweaking)
2.The pricing is reasonable in GBP (as I'm based in UK) equivalent for the ad slots.(I need it to be enough to help me fund impovements for the blog and to make this worth my time without being excessive)
3.How payment should be handled. (I'm thinking a different BTC address for each ad slot tier,so 3 in total)
4.How the customer can reach me for putting up the ads and that links work properly (use this forums PM)
5.How transactions should be handled in case of a dispute (again use this forums PM or twitter)

The plan is for me to be contacted for payment, then I recieve the image and links for the ad and I put it up on my blog.Cuts out the middle man this way. This feature is still under development.Once prices and TOS (I have to follow wordpress.com rules as well) are sorted out, this will be ready for the public.

All comments (postive/otherwise) and constructive criticism will be helpful.
Thanks :-)

I'd like to contribute my time/effort to testing a HD7970 if I could find a way to get my hands on one via hte common fund perhaps? or sort out funding another way (jobs, selling stuff maybe).I'll have to upgrade PSU as well as HD7970 needs more power than the PSu can handle.I'm thinking a partial subsidy is best rather than fully subsidising other people if the 'common fund' is used to make the most of the 'common fund'.I do like the idea as I need a piece of hardware to review for my blog as well.(the HD7970 could fit the bill nicely)

UPDATE:I have now created a section on my blog dedicated to selling ad space for anyone whos interested (kinda like this forum).

I'm looking for some interested testers to guide me on the development like pricing and best trading practices.
The ad link is:http://film2240.wordpress.com/ads/
This link is public and I need feedback on best pricing and selling practices as I really want to sell some ad spaces to help people who accept bitcoins get a wider audience for their businesses.

Other 7 guesses in Nebraska,US are:
McCook
Ord

Burwell
Chambers
Wayne
Fermont

I hope one of my guesses are close though.I want to win that 10 BTC.

I've set this up quotw a while ago (several months ago) but neither of my 2 websites has been validated and so can't accept bids from advertisers, nor can I see them on my websites and I've yet to see payment from these Ads.Anyway I can get them to validate my sites quicker? As I pasted in their HTML code.Something smells fishy to me with that site.

UPDATE:I'm happy to report that my 2nd website has been accepted. Now waiting for the BTC to roll in.My blog still isn't accepted so I'm using a different way to sell ad space (by doing it all myself with image and link method, plus asking people to send me BTC for the Ad slots they're interested in buying from me) without the need for 3rd party sites that have quirks.
994  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Need guidance on selling on: December 25, 2011, 08:56:20 PM
Along the same lines as Google AdSense is Operation Fabulous:

You as a website publisher can list your inventory and advertisers bid for that space.

That sounds good.I originally planned to just ask advertisers to pay a smallish fee (no more than 5BTC per normal ad slot or 15BTC for each Ad that took up half the page) and then host their image with a clickable link to their business but I'll give this a go.I wish to control the content of hte ads and how much I can charge so I can ensure enough income to fund improvements to the blog.

I do plan to setup a  donation system similar to the one on this forum where donators,VIPS,Platinum members get special ranks and priveleges for specified amounts as I feel that is a good system to follow in addition to the regular donators (0.5BTC rate)

995  Economy / Goods / Re: Looking to Trade a 6990 for a CPU and GPU's on: December 25, 2011, 08:38:30 PM
I have a CPU and GPU.CPU is quite old but still functional (AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600+ I think) and old GPU is HD4670 (you can overclock it to the max with sapphire trixx tool) I got that GPU for about £80 and CPU was with a mobo and ram (was about £300 I think not too sure now as that was in 2007)

I don't have any risers but do have spare adaptors (DVI to VGA e.t.c that can be used as dummy plugs).Maybe I should just sell them if not suitable for this trade.

I think your missing the point and purpose of my intended trade
And "over clock it to the max".... Buddy, There is no such thing as a "max" core speed, The user defined "max" Is when the card Crashes, So if your dragging a slider all the way to one end, That is Nothing close to Max overclock

Just for the record.
Running:
 AMD.BE.1090Tx6@3.6
 4gb ddr3 1600
Crossfire BE6870's running at 1ghzcore each (for gaming)
 A nice SDD.

I WANT a better cpu. PERIOD.
I do not need or want a cpu that is anyting Other than what i posted.
I am DOWNGRADING my MINERS Mhash/s ability, By trading Out it's 6990.

Why the hell do people keep offering me "hey i've got this crappy cpu and these grappy gpu's"
The CPU i Want is Specific, So i dont understand that part
The GPU part is left totally open and vague, So i've got no reason to bitch when someone offers a 4670, Aside from the fucking fact that it gets 50mh/sec AT BEST.

TL;DR Since it's become appears to be neccesary now.
Trading Out a 6990's Cash Value
Trading In Lowgrade GPU HASHING POWER, NOT PRICE
Trading In A Specific CPU.

Ok I get it,My suggestion is unsuitable for a purpose I didn't even know about as I couldn't find in in any of the posts here.
In reponse to your earlier comment: "And "over clock it to the max".... Buddy, There is no such thing as a "max" core speed, The user defined "max" Is when the card Crashes, So if your dragging a slider all the way to one end, That is Nothing close to Max overclock"

I have always made this suggestion in the past before and no one has ever had a problem with this suggestion before.I only offer that suggestion because it is what I think may be suitable for the task at hand.I can sometimes be wrong on this and on this occasion it appears that I have got it wrong.Sorry for any offence caused.

I'm guessing its somewhere in Nebraska,US in the city of Brunswick maybe.(damn the 1 guess per post policy as I had 7 guesses in this state)

Based on this:
"Quote from: Sannyasi on Today at 01:11:01 AM
Nebraska - U.S.

You are so close! You're on the right planet. Thank you for playing, Sannyasi. Remember, you're only allowed 100 guesses within a 24 hour period, so guess wisely."

I don't know how to quote other posts as I didn't press quote this time.
997  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Selling Rome Total War CD key.Now 70% off on: December 25, 2011, 07:51:27 PM
It's currently selling for $4.99 on steam, just FYI, you are asking for around $18 for a $5 game on steam (which is full priced $10 when not on sale)

Thanks for bring this pricing issue to my attention kokojie.I didn't fully realise the current value of BTC at the time of posting and current value of that game. The pricing will be adjusted shortly :-)

EDIT:Price has been adjusted to reflect current market conditions more closely.

Hi
I wish to see guidance on the following:
1.Selling ad space on my blog for BTC
2.Selling spaces for people to author and contribute to articles on my blog

If I wish to follow these options on,what would be the best way to go about it? What rates will advertisers pay me for their ad per month or as a one off fee in BTC? I do this as I wish to fund further developments and improvements to my blog (which may include hiring a developer for certain things or to just improve the site for my readers).

I'm new to selling and wish to learn more about this.I saw websites being sold and ad space being sold but how do I go about this? How can I find people who wish to advertise for a fee on my blog?

Any guidance or constructive comments (criticism/support) appreciated
Thanks :-)
