1003  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Santa is in town? Price upswing! on: December 22, 2011, 02:53:37 PM
I want the price to go way back up. I bought 7btc for $100 when I first started. Uggh....

Maybe you can help me with that goal macintosh. What some people tend to do (that I heard of) is sell BTC for way higher on the exchange than they are now (in my case £25 per BTC instead of current rates in £).Then when all cheap BTC dries up (because everyone will buy up all cheap BTC like crazy),the markets will be forced to respond to the trend and that of course will jack up the prices which will be good for you,me and all miners.

I hope this info helps explain what I've seen from before.I could of course be wrong on how the markets react. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

1004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Santa is in town? Price upswing! on: December 22, 2011, 02:39:33 PM
This is good news for me as a miner lol.:-)

Looks like I'll have another xmas present. Mining is valuable again.Maybe I can finally add my old GPU back into my PC with the current GPU (HD6950) to eek out every last hash my PSU can handle from the 2 GPUs in my PC in addition to my MBP and other computers I can use. :-)

I think I'll set my price for £17-£25 per BTC I sell maybe it'll encourage more miners from UK to take part.
1005  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Information on ATI 7xxx Series Dec. 5th! on: December 21, 2011, 11:58:44 AM
I just heard that that the HD7970 is close to the HD6990 in the benchmarks shown on this link:
http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/25259-radeon-hd-7970-close-to-hd-6990

If this is anything to go by,then it may be very good for mining as well.

Overclocking this card would get this even closer to a HD6990 though.I hope this is repeatable for mining as well.

If it is using CGN then I think it still will suck. Reality right now is that 5870 and 5970 were the best mining cards ever created. All the rest suck for integer heavy operations like Bitcoin and bruteforcing stuff.

Thanks for the info.It looks like we'll still be using HD58xx,HD5970s and the top end HD69xx series cards then for a lot longer than I expect.Looks like the HD79xx and HD78xx won't be the most suitable cards for mining then.Guess I'll have to wait for FPGAs and more previous gen cards to be affordable then. If minings not the HD7xxx strongpoint then what do they work best with?

1007  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Power Saving Tip - CPU Core Speed on: December 19, 2011, 04:39:02 PM
Ensign-lee,that is a good question. When I first purchased the Core i7 920 CPU,my needs were different as they were very CPU intensive like film editing certainly was as I was working on large projects and every second counted. That was back in 2009.Fast forward 2 yrs later,my needs have changed to GPGPU use thanks to optimisations in the apps I rely on for film making and editing so the CPU doesn't get used much these days. The CPU is only used (and therefore put in Turbo) when an important app I need isn't GPGPU optimised (due to laziness of the developer not using OpenCL and only using CUDA as I have a radeon)

Funny you saying that,it isn't the CPU that's cripped so much but I can understand why you would think that.A little known fact is that the X58 chipset on socket 1366 mobos (esp mine) can use up to 30W just for the chipset whereas from westmere gen and beyond (mines a nehalem) uses just around 6W which is quite a saving, then of course swapping out HDDs for 1 large one and an SSD plus disabling unneeded ports on my mobo saved the rest. The CPU was only modified a little (lowered 1.6GHZ speedstep down to 1.35GHZ which saved me a lot of power),My mobo has a lot of 'eco' settings onboard so the rest was childsplay for energy savings. :-)

1009  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shopping cart solution needed for my blog on: December 16, 2011, 02:47:50 PM
Hi film2240,

We are working on a web merchant solution - called MultiBitMerchant to complement the existing MultiBit code.   It is still in alpha so is not complete enough for general use yet but it is targeted to what you are after.

I did a demo of it at the EuroBit conference and made a (quite rough!) demo screencast as a backup just in case the network went down or I dropped my laptop 5 minutes beforehand.

Have a look:
http://multibit.org/eurobit/EuroBit_2011_MultiBit%20demo.mp4

It is basically:
a catalog + BTC shopping cart + pay in BTC + confirmation on the website

I will mention this thread to the main developer - Gary Rowe.

Hi Jim618
That's great.I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans out.If this works well, then lots more merchants will be receptive to the idea of using BTC as an additional or primary payment method (like in my case BTC is primary method)
1010  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shopping cart solution needed for my blog on: December 16, 2011, 12:03:17 AM
I'm in the process of implementing it.Tried it on the blog as it just shows random code instead of the shop like I expected meaning that the blog isn't working with javascript I think.I'll try it one more time on another host.I just cant get this solution to work.

Merchants like me who are relatively inexperienced have trouble with these types of things.I tried to learn how but I just can't understand it tbh.The host I'm using offers premade apps for google merchant and paypal merchant. If something can be built like that,I'll be happy to pay a dev (not right then as I'll need to raise funds first as he develops)

Since I find most of these things too complex for me,I'll give up trying to add BTC cart on my site and go back to 'conventional methods' even though it comes with the type of paperwork I'd rather avoid, but it's not worth sacrificing reliability and ease of use just for some beliefs to conduct business sorry.

I've tried several solutions and they've all let me down. The web based ones don't stay up for long, have serious reliability issues and the ones that are reliable are too complex to setup so it's made BTC acceptance more fristrating and not worth my time as that could be spent making my films better. My BTC experience has been soured by things like this.If people want BTC to be used more widely then maybe they should focus more on how to develop the easiest to setup and use shop features that can be accepted on a wide range of platforms. The 2nd host I'm using is http://members.webs.com/s/webs/.They offer premade shopping carts that are a 1 click experience on their websites which is why I used them to replace the shop part of my blog.It goes like this,1 click install then add account details (or just btc address in my case since I want a BTC accepting version of this cart)

Maybe the guys behind multicoin can help me with this as they got the simplicity/reliability/speed right, just needs to be adapted a little for the purposes I need it for.

Bitcoin acceptance is only for the donate and like the article features at present on my blog, where people pay by QR code thanks for the guys behind multicoin client.

I can't do coding or website setup of any kind (I just end up relying on the easy setup options for my blog with some customisations),I'm just a filmmaker/tech enthusiast (who just uses and knows about gadgets to a great depth)/artist.

That's my feedback.
1011  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitcoinRetail | 1-2-3 setup for your very own bitcoin store on: December 15, 2011, 11:06:17 PM
So, this will be something you can drop into a website, kinda like dropping in wordpress to make a blog?

Can this be made to work in wordpress.com blogs as normal blogs don't let you use scripts or even certain file types for 'security'.At least in my case.I can't self host my blog (on my own server) as I have no experience in this.

Can this be made into an entire page for me (easily embedded,no coding or uploading of files) where I can just drag and drop inventory items like artworks, silent case fans e.t.c?
1012  Bitcoin / Project Development / Shopping cart solution needed for my blog on: December 14, 2011, 10:55:15 PM
Hi
Since I've seen the ease of use for adding recieve and send BTC addresses for people who wish to donate to my blog or like an article.I wish to now take this to the next step in making my blog fully BTC friendly.

Steps taken so far:
1.Add QR code to ease the BTC donate system
2.Wrote a clear guide linking to the relevant video introducing BTC and showing how they work
3.Plans have been 50% for adding a shop like feature to the blog so that customers can actually browse products as well as just buying them.

2 stumbling blocks remain for me:
1.Wordpress.com doesn't seem to like/let me running non HTML code for embedding most currently available solutions for BTC acceptance.
1b.Whenever a new page is create on wordpress,it doesn't let me post only to that page and instead clutters up my homepage (not user friendly or tidy) so I'm looking for someone to create a professional interface webpage which I can then self host on another provider (after being linked from by main blog)
2.All the shopping cart solutions that take BTC are too complicated (require adding PHP,and other code that my blog just doesn't seem to like) or are unreliable (as certain solutions go offline for good after a while like www.base2shop.com has now or suffer other problems like login issues with no remedy on bitcoinservices.co.uk and my product links becoming dead after uploading as reported by a tester who visited my blog the other day)

The things I require in the shopping cart solution are:
1.Simple to setup (and must not require coding beyond HTML or other complex procedures, client side server side,e.t.c)
2.Reliable
3.Must be able to take payment that is sent straight to my BTC address like the Multicoin client does for me whenever a QR code is scanned and hte person pays up.The QR codes and management of BTC addresses and items is good.I just need a shopping cart solution that can tap into that potential and give me funds straight to my computer and not a 3rd party server as I risk losing money that way.
5.Must only let customers pay a set price for the item in question as with the Multicoin solution, the customer can decide how much to pay instead of following the price that's set by me.

If this solution doesn't yet exist, can it please be developed by people who know about creating these types of things. When this project is finished successfully with the help of you guys,I'll make sure my shop is open and start conducting business through there as my way of saying thanks (12bvFTAebmVcYTkKjWYcBo8nsGTnA6Dt1E.It's here if you wish to use it).If the created system works well,be sure to say thanks as well so I know what's working and what isn't.

Thanks
1013  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is there a service that lets me sell digital goods by Bitcoin? on: December 13, 2011, 11:13:44 PM
You might want to check your links. Every one of those four gives me an internal server error.

Thanks for raising the issue. It will be rectified in the coming days due to testing. :-)

UPDATE:Testing has revealed that all links are dead and this will take longer than expected to rectify as I now need to find a different service that sells e-downloads while having accessible links. This could take me quite a while.

1014  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Selling Bitcoins at a high exchange rate on: December 13, 2011, 10:04:07 PM
I'll sell Bitcoins at 25 USD per BTC, or 40 TBC per USD. I don't care that "everyone else" is selling Bitcoins dirt cheap. This is my offer. Take it or leave it. I'm in no rush to sell.

Edit: Also, I encourage everyone else to join me in selling no lower than this approximate price. Eventually, all the people selling dirt cheap will run out and then all selling will revert back to its proper place at $25/BTC Smiley

I like your idea.I like it because when all the cheap BTC dries up,the exchanges will finally be forced to sell them at a better price (more like they were in the summer this year, before the crash).I hope your idea works though.I sold off a few BTC at current rates but am holding onto the rest so they'll grow in value.
1015  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is there a service that lets me sell digital goods by Bitcoin? on: December 13, 2011, 09:40:39 PM
Thanks for the help guys.my digital items are on sale now.one piece of artwork, stock photos and a video file.

All available from this link:
http://film2240.wordpress.com/2011/12/13/for-salephotosvideo-and-artwork/

The products are available from this link.Click on the respective links to find out pricing and preview information before buying.I wasn't show what kind of prices are expected off media items so I just made guesses. If it seems too high, let me know and I'll amend (lower) it.If too low then the price will be adjusted.

I'm new to selling media items.

Issue I had with Bitcoinservices.co.uk was when I tried logging in with correct password,I get error saying it's incorrect.I register everytime to just gain access to my files.Theres no password recovery feature which the devs on that site should really develop if they want to continue having my business and comissions form my business.Devs to bitcoinservices.co.uk,please fix this soon.

Thanks
1016  Economy / Goods / Re: Question on selling goods on here on: December 13, 2011, 07:06:52 PM
Thanks teflone :-)

That answers the WOT and the Escrow service for protecting the buyer and seller.I guess that selling is as simple as making a listing on here or using another service that covers this in Bitcoins.
1017  Economy / Goods / Question on selling goods on here on: December 13, 2011, 03:46:36 PM
Hi
I'm a prospective seller finding a good easy platform to sell on.I've looked at eBay and they don't let me use anything but PayPal and related methods,I've used Amazon.co.uk but they don't let you sell items not in their catalogue without paying ~£20 as a pro seller,I've yet to get the jist of using play.com to tell via their trade service. It seems that most services are either too complicated to use or have additional fees.

Is there a way I can use a reliable way of selling items via BTC or another method that's easy for UK based sellers?
How do I sell items on here?
What can I expect from the marketplace here when I trade?
What rules govern trade on here?
What about protections for the seller and buyer?
How can I build a reputation on here so users can get a better impression of me as a seller?

Thanks in advance for any tips you may have :-)
1018  Economy / Trading Discussion / Is there a service that lets me sell digital goods by Bitcoin? on: December 13, 2011, 12:48:00 AM
Hi,
I was looking at services that let me sell digital goods for bitcoins? The problem I'm having is this:
1.The easy to use ones (2 so far) have closed down
2.The remaining ones are too complex for users like me who can only run an html based blog on wordpress.com

Is there a site that lets me sell digital goods for bitcoins that do the following:
1.Add a buy button or simple link to my blog which then directs the user to the relevant site that sells it
2.lets the user download only when he has paid up
3.Lets me set the price
4.lets me upload files easily

thank you
1019  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Turn on the server, it's cold inside. (New York Times) on: December 12, 2011, 11:42:02 PM
My PC (desktop) has only 1 Radeon Hd6950 but when it's mining away,it can heat up my entire flat in less than 30 mins (and even then it's unconfortably hot). The card is heavily OC'd as well and can get a little noisy but that waste heat heats up my flat instead of using 2 more wasteful room heaters (provided by flat). The power use is just under 300W when mining from the wall.

Here's a headline for ya,1 computer heats up entire flat in 30 minutes. :-)
1020  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Power Saving Tip - CPU Core Speed on: December 12, 2011, 11:27:31 PM
Being an AMD product, can CCC do this on Intel CPU's too? I just do it in the BIOS, but it would be nice to do it "on the fly".

CCC doesn't supprt Intel CPUs.My mobo is an Asus model so I can use EPU-6 utility to really reduce my CPU volts and clock speed. It's like a BIOs tweak but within windows :-)

For convenience set it to Auto.I put mine on Medium power savings (as Max power saving switches off my case fans on my PC which are needed to help cool my system down)

Takes some tweaking but it's worth it.I shaved off 35W by using that tool plus a further 10W by enabling Green Ethernet on my NIC (cable is 20m long so energy use adds up) plus 5W from disabling firewire, saved 8W by switching to SSD from system HDD and 13W by removing 2 HDDs and replacing them with 1 2TB eco HDD which uses only 3 watts (instead of using 16W from 80GB and 750GB HDDs like before)

So total energy saved is:71W from all those mods.

Pretty damn impressive for power savings huh.

My CPU is a Core i7 920
6GB RAM (CPU and RAM underclock together to save even more power)
