421  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoin client and Mountain Lion OSX 10.8 on: July 29, 2012, 12:01:14 AM
Since I've been able to upgrade to Mountain Lion,I was hoping for a seamless transition from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion in terms of having apps that work 100%.Sadly this hasn't been the case for the official client.
Issues spotted that the dev team should fix soon:
1.Mountain Lion complains that the 'Bitcoin.app can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer'.Remedy to devs-Get this app signed with a developer ID
User remedy until fix is applied-Go to system preferences>Security&Privacy> and select 'Anywhere' under 'Allow applications downloaded from:' category. Users who are stuck with defaults will assume that the client is a harmful app, even when it isn't because of Gatekeeper's warnings. If the app was launched before, the warning won't appear, thankfully but still, this could alarm some inexperienced users though.
2.The client stops responding when first launched everytime in OSX 10.8-I don't know why even though the whole OS is much more responsive than Snow leopard ever was with the client (0.63).Out of all apps on my newly upgraded (OS update only) MBP (MacBook Pro),the bitcoin client is the odd one out with the most crashes,non-responding and long delays before it finally loads.
3.Maybe optimise the client for OSX 10.8 while we're at it so that it's just as responsive as the rest of the system.
4.This problem seems to affect other clients as well so an advisory to the devs of those clients may be appropriate as well.

Thank you and I hope this helps you gauge the level of compatibility of the official client on OSX 10.8 (Mountain lion) so far Smiley
422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should BCX get a SCAMMER tag? on: July 28, 2012, 12:13:59 PM
Vote. I'm tired of this bullshit. BCX making BS claims and can't back it up. You deserve a SCAMMER tag.
I couldn't agree more.I'm writing this with the new Dicate feature on my MBP with OSX 10.8 (I finally upgraded and I'm glad I did) so I can just talk and it'll write for me.How cool is that? Smiley

But in all seriousness, just don't move any litecoins around for a few days and this whole thing should hardly effect you if it does happen.

Smart advice Vorksholk Smiley
I'll keep hold of my LTC then so this won't really affect me.
425  Other / Archival / Re: deleted on: July 25, 2012, 12:46:05 PM

I will start the second fork in about 11 hours 45 minutes beginning at 11:59am GMT.

For those that don't truly under stand 51% attacks Coblee the creator of LTC explained it below.

I think most people don't understand a 51% attack. His fork will be mined in secret. So his EC2 instances and botnets and gpus will not be talking to any machine on the main network during the duration of the attack. Only when he is releasing the longer chain, would one of his machine need to announce the chain to everyone. So during the attack, you will not notice anything like an increase in hashrate.

You have until I start my new fork to to sell, transfer, move or buy and remain on the original fork. After I start the second fork I will run it for three days. Then I suspect all pools will be hit on Friday sometime dropping the hashrate so I can over take the original chain and force all nodes onto my new chain. All transactions conducted on the original chain after I start my second chain in 12 hours will simply not exist when I deploy the larger forked chain. That includes buys, sells and moves and yes this includes transactions to exchanges.

So you have about 12 hours to do what you want, so get busy.

I would highly suggest LTC Dev to implement a current lock in ASAP.

Hey at least i'm giving you warning.

 Grin Grin Grin

~BCX~

BCX,I'm curious to know what do you hope to achieve by doing this 51% attack against LTC? To encourage the dev to improve security? Or for other reasons? Can users still mine like before on this 'new' chain of yours? or will the landscape change completely?
426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AndLTC Miner! (Android LTC Miner)| PlayStore | Updated v0.51 07/22/12 on: July 24, 2012, 11:37:28 PM
I love the miner for android idea but can someone please compile a version for maemo 5 (OS used on Nokia N900) as I'm unable to compile it due to the fact that I can't code otherwise I would do it,thanks. I curious to see what kind of hashpower my N900 will give me at 1.15GHz (OC'd cpu). Smiley
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Need help] Setup Reaper miner (GPU) for my main PC on: July 24, 2012, 06:02:56 PM
I'm happy to report that I've finally got reaper running successfully at high speeds with very few stales. I now get 454Kh/s or above on my HD6950 (unlocked to 1536 shaders) with these settings:

In litecoin.conf:
protocol litecoin

worksize 256
aggression 16
threads_per_gpu 4
sharethreads 18
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 6144

and in reaper.conf:
kernel reaper.cl
save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown yes
long_polling yes
device 0

mine litecoin

Adding 'device 0' is very important as this stops reaper from mining on CPU and GPU which degrades performance.

Clocks are (stable at):
885MHz (core clock)
1000MHz (mem clock)

Great success.I hope this thread helps those who need it. Smiley
428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Need help] Setup Reaper miner (GPU) for my main PC on: July 23, 2012, 12:44:03 PM
Film2240, you should be getting about double that hash rate... Make sure in reaper.conf you have the line "device 0" there, so that it doesn't try to mine on your CPU (which it can't... but it tries anyhow!), then bump aggression in litecoin.conf as high as you can go with stability, and try with changing settings like gpu_thread_concurrency to multiples of the number of cores on your card (1408?). Also try both 1, 2, and 4 threads per gpu Smiley.

Thanks for the input.I'm going to try that.So putting device 0 can help reaper focus purely on my GPU and hopefully stop my CPU fans from spinning up (when reaper tries to mine on it too).No of shaders is 1536 on my card (as it's unlocked). As soon as I get a chance,I'll add this to my PCs reaper configs. Thanks Smiley
429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Need help setting up Reaper for 6310m on: July 23, 2012, 12:38:54 PM
What settings are in your reaper.conf file?

For your card in particular, the settings you should use are (I think):

device 0 (make sure to put this in so that it doesn't try mining on CPU as well as this degrades performance. You need to look at the litecoin.conf file to change this)
aggression (make it as high as your system can run stable on,tends to range anything from 10 to about 21 or so,if it keeps crashing, try a lower aggression setting until it runs stable)
gpu_thread_concurrency (should be a multiple of shaders,in your case, multiply 80 shaders by a few times to get the no for this)
gpu threads (this is the number of gpu threads, try 1,2 or 4 as your best bet)

Try these settings and see if they work for you.
430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Free Litecoin-Related Advertisement Opportunity! on: July 22, 2012, 11:54:25 AM
Can my gambling venture be advertised? As I accept LTC and BTC so players can play with both currencies.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=90059.0

I'm also auctioning off my signature space for LTC/BTC here to someone who's looking for advertising. Here:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93582.0

I could use some promotion for both things, thanks Smiley
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Need help] Setup Reaper miner (GPU) for my main PC on: July 22, 2012, 09:28:00 AM
If it helps at all, I did make this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvhpOQHVZpM
It was thanks to your video that I was introduced to easy LTC mining in the first place. The CPU scrypt miner is more straightforward due to  a clear GUI.Reaper is more difficult but not too hard. Thanks for the vid anyway Smiley  Does anyone on here know how to improve the performance of reaper on my HD6950 with unlocked shaders as that's the sticking point for me now? I'm only getting like 220kHash/s rather than what I was told it should be (at least double what I'm getting). What things should I overclock? Both core and memory? Or is having a more modest core clock but much faster memory clock going to help more? What core and memory clocks work well for LTC mining? Thanks.

PS.I know this is a little off topic but I know someone else who also needs help setting up reaper https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=94193.0 and I'm out of ideas after suggesting things to the OP of that thread.
432  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] Auction off my signature space for 1 month on: July 21, 2012, 12:38:39 PM
The winning bidders signature (or ad) will replace my 'The VPN I use",the 'Dream Islands community' and the games links in my sig currently. The auction is still going so don't miss out. if you prefer to just buy my signature space  without any fuss, you can purchase this at the buy it now price on here:http://cheaperinbitcoins.com/show-product/buyforumsigspace .If you want to see if you can get a better deal, place your bid here. Thank you Smiley

I'll link to my thread where I had issues setting up reaper on my laptop too as some of the stuff could help you even though my laptop has different hardware to yours but still worth a shot:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93764.0 Smiley

Basic steps for reaper:
1.Download and make sure you are using the latest reaper as it's less buggy than v12 (this fix works on my 2 systems)
2.I presume you wish to mine LTC (litecoins) with GPU
3.Open the reaper.conf file and remove these 2 lines from reaper:
'mine bitcoin'
and
'mine solidcoin'
b.save and exit in notepad or your text editor of choice.
4.Go into you litecoin.conf and modify:
a.your pool host (e.g litecoinpool.org)
b.then port (usually 9332 but can differ with other pools)
c.username (of your miner/worker)
d.password (of your miner/worker,not your account login for that pool,ok)

5.Run reaper. If this is the first time you run reaper successfully,it'll compile a binary suitable for your GPU and settings in reaper.Be paitent as this can take a while.
6.Once reaper finishes compiling itself and is successfull,it'll start mining.
I did all the above but when I start reaper it begins to compile then I get "reaper.exe has stopped responding....."
Any idea what could be causing this?

What error is it throwing up? Click more details to get this info. Also have you tried running the 32bit version of reaper as that sorted out my problems on my laptop and desktop? The x64 seems to have more problems for some people (myself included). Also try running reaper as admin in win 7,as that can solve some issues too.Hope this helps you. Smiley

Count me in too. Cheesy
I know I can't really code stuff but I'd like to get some cheap SCs as well.

Guys do you know the best settings for a radeon HD6950 with unlicked shaders for reaper? As I managed to get it running without stales but performance is much lower than I expect with my card.Thanks.

I've managed to get reaper running successfully on the PC now. I only get like 220k/hash on my radeon HD6950 though. What performance should I be getting with that card? What are the best mem and core clocks to use with that card? What settings should I use in reapers config for that card?

I have concurrent threads to 6144 like I was told from somcwhere else and gpu threads to 4.

Any help would be appreciated. My other thread about the laptop is now resolved but couldn't change the title to resolved. Thanks Smiley
438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Need help] Setup Reaper (GPU) miner on my laptop on: July 20, 2012, 07:19:39 PM
Wow simply raising the aggression by 4 really boosts the hashrates.Did you mean k/hash rather than m/hash for LTC as that was a little confusing? If there's already a miner that can perform in the MHash/s range then please ignore my previous comment.

Thanks for all the help the joint Smiley

I've decided that no good can come out of gpup mining LTC on my laptop so I'm drawing this setup to a close as the CPU oddly out performs the GPU.

I'll be locking the thread now as all my queries have been answered and resolved to my satisfaction. Smiley
439  Economy / Lending / Re: Dream Islands banking and loans [sell off] on: July 20, 2012, 12:03:24 PM
Thanks for your detailed and very honest responses.  Given the early stage of development I am not interested in buying or investing in your loaning business.

However, I am interested in something else now.  Your signature says that you are a professional filmmaker.  Do you have any examples of films you have made posted on line?  I am just curious is all.

Yeah I am professional filmmaker. I do have a few films that used to be online before megaupload was taken down and the links lost.If you look at my blog: www.film2240.wordpress.com (or click the blog link in my sig to make life easier) there are still films on there that are shown from rough cut (early stage) to final cut (finished film) and anything else in between. One of those is called The Awakening which is an expressive experimental film which emphasises how we should all use freedom to make life better for everyone. The visuals are quire closely tied to every part of the sound so it's almost like a living being (except that it's a film). The earlier cuts are password protected so you'll have to PM me for the Pws of course,it stops the spammers and copyright theives from selling off early cuts.

I'm sure this forum has people who want the services of a video editor or even to simply convert files from one format to another for a price.I do plan to go back to what I do best (which is filmmaking) instead of following unchecked expansion into ventures and markets I can't fully understand at this time.Honesty is what I do BurtW so you can certainly expect never to be short changed by me in any way. Smiley
440  Economy / Lending / Re: Dream Islands banking and loans [sell off] on: July 20, 2012, 10:59:43 AM
tl;dr: Nothing to sell besides a name and a bad loan

Maybe it's time to put things to a close on this. It's not in a state where a sell off is guaranteed at this point.By trying to do something,a person can learn what works and what doesn't.Clearly the sell off will not work in this environment (or current condition of the venture).I can see where this is going. Some businesses were just nothing more than a name with a few things attached to it and they were successful, others like this need a rethink/draw to a close.

Did I mention that the proceeds were going to good causes.
What is the difference between the person starting a new 'ABC Bank' then paying you to acquire your 'Dream Islands Bank'? Apart from the LastDovah bad loan (which I don't think he'll materialize again), I don't see any difference. Other businesses that were just 'nothing more than a name with a few things attached to it and they were successful' had the existing infrastructure like:

a) methods and personalized software tailored for that business
b) existing contacts and contracts that provide a steady business
c) experienced employees which is costly to acquire otherwise
d) existing copyrighted websites that fills the niche perfectly
e) ....

Your 'Dream Islands Bank' does not have any of the above, except maybe from a), but the short history of lending (2 loans in total), the track record (50% default rate) and the total profit records (negative 3 BTC) states otherwise.

Looks like I should focus more on development rather than trying to sell off straightaway as.OK due to recent developments,it's no longer viable to even sell,so to stop this thread from getting too packed.I'm calling off the sale due to consumer pressure. In response to the points raised ,I can see how any sell off of a venture that isn't fully developed can cause people to stop, think and ask is this really the step an underdeveloped venture ought to take? Also the lack of maturity of this venture will simply raise further questions.I was hoping to ask people to own a part of the venture so that I could put in some much needed investment and rennovation which should developed into a mature and stable venture which people would be more comfortable owning come sale time.Until that day,I guess a sell off simply won't go down well on this forum.

I wanted to sell this off so that it could be made successful by someone who could help give this venture the dedication, care and investment that it deserves.Did you guys read the reason why I was forced to sell? I'd like to keep it but I'm overstretched. When a person is overstreched to the extent that I am,it's not fair in my view to hold onto something that would otherwise be successfull in a way that holds it back simply because I'm unable to dedicate the time it deserves.

The loans venture was special in the sense that it specialised in micro loans.I was once inspired by a microloans person Muhammed Yunus http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/10/061013-nobel-peace.html since it fitted in with my whole idea of contributing back to the society that helped me (where I grew up,people who helped me in my filmmaking career, friends overseas, they all deserve a thank you by the way).I do have a humanitarian streak due to the people around me. It's important I feel, to either sell off an idea to someone else who could use it (in a better way than I could) or spend more time developing it myself when I'm not overstretched, which ever seems better for me.

I hope this clarfies my intentions and why they are inherently good (despite not being the best communicator on these forums).
