I hope you have a dehumidifyer nearby or else that rig will be toast soon.

Right now the humidity in Austin, Texas is 45%.  My house is pier and beam construction which elevates it 4 feet above the rocky soil under the house.  Because the house is on top a ridge, the crawl space has been bone dry for years. Dust might eventually be an issue but the CPU and GPU fans seem to keep their respective radiators clean enough.  As purpose-built mining rigs, I chose a conservative configuration with respect to heat dissipation.   There are only two GPUs per mother board, and there is sufficient space between the cards for unobstructed airflow.  I chose Radeon HD 5770 CPUs that draw somewhat over 100 watts when overclocked.  Likewise I chose the least power consuming CPUs for the motherboards. The three rigs have six 5770 cards and in total draw 860 watts from the socket.

Some may not be aware that recently Intel has been conducting research on whether datacenter air conditioning could be relaxed a bit.  This article: http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2008/09/18/intel-servers-do-fine-with-outside-air/ gives details.

I'm not ignoring a possible fire danger with six overclocked GPUs.  I have the power supplies sitting on pieces of floor ceramic tile, and the case-less motherboards elevated a bit off the small sheet of plywood that supports them.

Here are temperature and clock readings from one of the rigs, that I control from my home office via ssh.  Note that the outside air temperature is 38 C (100 F), the crawl space is a steady 30 C (86 F).  The rig produces 424 MH/sec using poclbm.

You should consider lowering your memory to 200-400 range.  It will reduce your temps further.

remember that heat rises...

Go to your local Costco and buy a solar-powered roof fan for $300 (assuming you live in a house).

You should get a $100 tax credit on your federal taxes if you itemize.

The amount of work your AC in the house will have to do will drop considerably!!! resulting in lower electricity consumption due to cooling.

So far it's working like a champ.  I have seen 5830s come into availability twice on newegg today.
and they sold out very quickly!! at crazy prices...

nowinstock.net

and my own iMacro's within Firefox Smiley

I use them too, but this tool allows you to monitor any website of your choice.  not sure about nowinstock.

Do you know if Newegg eventually takes action against automated requests?

They do not unless you're hammering rapidly enough to trigger IDS type responses. Just setup a cron job to parse the page you want to watch and randomize the url curl timing.

Couldn't see the option to randomize polling time in the software package I mentioned.  There maybe other software that can do it, but I haven't looked for it to be honest...
4246  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Never miss that inventory again!!! on: June 30, 2011, 04:16:06 AM
Newegg has a built in email notification system for "back in stock", and it work very well.

Ps: Totally love that aiges soft, It paid itself a dozen time already Smiley

Actually their email notification is for shit!! It does not work for items that sellout fast.

Count me in for beta testing!

Don't know for sure, but there are other websites that check their inventory, so maybe they don't care?

Tired of missing those 6990s or any other card you want?

Here's what I have been playing with:

- Download this http://aignes.net/download.htm You can get a 30 day eval to decide if you want to buy this.  I'm evaluating the business edition.

setup Autowatch with a web-link to the desired product (for ex: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102878)

Go into properties and setup desired time (I'm messing with 1 minute) and desired action (playing with email notifications) .

You're done. Never miss that inventory again!!!

If this helped you, and you think I deserve a small token of appreciation, please consider donating 15KwcqgcxjsXx6XGJgv56Ps6AjbeQP3Ge5
4250  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Windows GPU limit? on: June 30, 2011, 02:55:16 AM
Was the motherboard's delivered power as issue ?

Note : I'm going for 5 using extenders on an old ep43-ds3l Smiley

You might be OK with extenders since the power is not drawn from mobo.  You'll have to test... You might have issues though with an older board.

I tested using 890FXA-GD70

I can confirm testing 8 GPUs (4 6990s) on Win7 64-bit without an issue using 11.6 drivers.  The issue you WILL have is insane heat with 6990s.

Almost have that solved with 450 CFM fan panel. Smiley
4253  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: .25 BTC Bounty on: June 30, 2011, 02:16:29 AM
They are all out of stock at the moment.  Newegg had some MSIs this morning (early) and they were gone immediately.

How to best contact you if I see them in stock?
You literally will have a few minutes before they are all gone.

I get notifications from several places when they are in stock.

Also, check eBay.  They are there but selling at a premium.

P.S.  I decided to post regarding missing inventory:

Same for me...
4255  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Linux vs Windows for Dedicated Mining on: June 29, 2011, 02:24:25 AM
Windows is easier to over clock but like everyone else said once you oc in windows its overclocked in linux ... the cool thing is you can unplug your HD and run off of a thumb drive ... I have four machines ... 3 running 2 x 6870 and one running 2 x 6950 after I unplugged the HDs in all of them and booted off a thumb drive my power bill dropped 15 dollars (not much but if your going for profit its worth it) they are stable and just as fast

you can boot windows from a usb stick also Wink thus removing the need for HD..

Is there a thread you could share for Windows from USB stick please?
I've been able to put the Windows install media on a usb stick, but not a persistent install.
4256  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Linux vs Windows for Dedicated Mining on: June 29, 2011, 12:12:39 AM
UPDATE/EDIT:  If it matters, I may add on a third and/or fourth GPU to the system later.  Running a 1k watt PSU in the rig right now with ample space and airflow.
Do you plan to use water cooling ? How else can you fit 4 cards in one MB ? Smiley

I would recommend mining on Windows, of course. Unless you are going to install more than 2x5970 or 4x5870

GPU limitation on windows is no longer an issue with 11.6 drivers

Why not just rent space at a local power generator (hydro)?  The owner/operator would eagerly rent you space and sell you very very cheap electricity...

This is especially true for countries outside of U.S. where everyone is looking for extra income.

The other option is to produce your own electricity and sell back to the grid.  Then, your per Kw cost could be 0.  The only problem with this option is how much is the capital expense?  If we had solar technology that was much more efficient than it is today, this would work nicely.

Rossi's stuff, if real, would disrupt the whole world as we know it!

A huge part of me wishes he's for real.  A small part of me tells me, if it's too good to be true it probably is.
