4481  Economy / Economics / Re: What would a Crypto-only economy look like? on: May 23, 2020, 12:11:36 PM
because (and only an example) ethereum is the same for all of us! Smart contracts will be smart contracts, if you wish to be part of it you will have some requirements and everything will be the same for everyone, nothing special for privilege ones with deep pockets

...But crypto can help us in achieving that equality!
Whales exist even in the cryptocurrency space and can still use their purchasing power to sway the currency to their favour, this is not that evident in a currency like Bitcoin with it's high trade volume, but it's a factor that can be exploited, as long as BTC is pegged to fiat, a transition would see those with higher amounts of USD holding the higher amount of whatever currency becomes globally accepted.

The fixed supply of Bitcoin however makes it more appealing as only so much of it can ever be in circulation. This to, would likely become irrelevant should it be used as a staple currency. There would be no incentive to hodl it and through daily use it would eventually trickle into the hands of the drivers of the economy.

@Upgrade00 I’m expecting Dortmund to win again, but I’m also fully aware that Wolfsburg will give them a tough time so in the end I’m hoping that we get to see a classic entertaining match from these two sides.
I will also have my money on Dortmund to win the match, they would want to continue the form they had before the break and build on their most recent victory, however same can be said about Wolfsburg who are playing well and would be glad to be playing at their home stadium, even if not in front of their fans.

Fun fact: Dortmund has scored double the number of goals Wolfsburg has so far in the bundesliga. Odds for Dortmund to score and an O 2.5  is at 1.90.
4483  Other / Meta / Re: Post restrictions on moved threads on: May 23, 2020, 08:44:51 AM
NO. You get an error
That solves the first of my query.
I'm unaware of how the forum software works or if SMF could scan all the replies made on a thread and decide whether or not it should be moved to boards with restrictions, this would fix this bypass.
If that's not possible, then it's a suggestion for the new forum software.
4484  Other / Meta / Post restrictions on moved threads on: May 23, 2020, 05:49:08 AM
I was curious as to the policy on the move topic option. There are some boards that are restricted to certain users on the forum, mostly based on their ranks, and users below a certain rank cannot start threads or reply to them on such boards. However this doesn't seem to cover a topic which was moved.
If a newbie comments on a thread in Trading discussion, and such thread is moved to the serious discussion board, there seems to be no restrictions on the post and the reply would show to have been made in Serious discussion.

I experimented this with one of my previous topics, and it checked out.
There were posts made by newbies on the original thread made in Tradig discussion, and those posts counted as posts made in Serious discussion board after it was moved:

Users' post history:

I quickly moved the thread back to avoid it being reported as it was then in the wrong section

I also did a search on SMF and how post restrictions are implemented and it did not say anything about moved threads,
Some Administrators like to limit what board new users can post in until they get to a certain post count. Many find it difficult to figure-out how to do this. Hopefully, the following steps will be helpful in figuring this out:

A board needs to be created or an existing one can be used.
Remove all posting and reply permissions from the "Regular members" group.
Enable permissions for post count based groups, following the directions here
Set up at least two post-count based groups, one for members with zero posts and another for members with more then one post.
In the post-count based group for members with more then one post, assign permissions to this group to allow posting and replies. But, do not allow posting and replies in the zero post-count group
Now is the time to create a permission profile for the board for which you want to restrict the users. Take a look at this for instructions on how to create the profile. In this profile be sure to allow the 0 post count group to be able to post and/or reply. If using SMF v2.*, remember to assign the profile to the proper board by editing the board.
After you have completed these steps, you will have set things up so that those in a post-count based group with more than one post can create new topics and reply to topics in all boards, but those that do not have one or more posts will not be able to post in any other board than the one with the profile assigned to it. It will be necessary to give posting permissions to the other post count based groups if more then two groups exist.

If topics newbies replied to can be moved to restricted boards, could newbies also move their own topics to such boards? I didn't have a way to experiment this, but I'll be curious to know the outcome.

This is not a major flaw, and I see no incentive for users to try and exploit it, as mods can handle the situation fairly easily. The new forum software could have an algorithm that prevents this maybe.
4485  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: May 22, 2020, 08:50:07 PM
Hertha BSC saw out the match comfortably, scoring 4 goals and conceding none, this puts them in a comfortable position, and Union Berlin now risk dropping closer to the relegation zone depending on fixtures elsewhere.

There are a couple of top of the table clashes to look forward to tomorrow;
Mönchengladbach hosts Leverkusen and Dortmund would be visiting Wolfsburg. I anticipate lots of goals in tomorrow's fixtures.
4486  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it possible to live without banks? on: May 22, 2020, 08:31:27 PM
If people decide to use crypto, precious metals, and physical cash, will it be possible to live a normal life without a bank?
Banks produce physical cash and hence if it's still in use banks would still be relevant, and everyone can't withdraw all the cash they own and keep in their pockets. Cryptocurrencies are not yet mainstream enough to be used as a global currency. Previous metals can be used as assets, but cannot be used for day to day transactions and it would make nations without natural resources heavily dependent on other nations

In my case, I'd be willing to exit the banking system in order to have true sovereignty over my money. After all, that's what crypto is all about.
It's not the most ideal situation, but majority of people do not want to be burdened with the task if being their own bank and being wholly responsible for the funds they own.
4487  Economy / Economics / Re: Fiat is a Digital currency without Value on: May 22, 2020, 05:36:28 PM
Actually every currency in our days dont have real value. It all based by trust and reputation
I would argue that a product can have value by virtue of it's cost of production, this is the cost-of-production theory of value. Bitcoin is not just minted at a bank, rather it is mined through work done.
It is also built on the blockchain technology, which gives it other desirable features like, immutability, trustless transactions, anonymity, decentralization which gives the currency value.
4488  Economy / Economics / Re: Would nations adopt a DIY approach post covid-19? on: May 22, 2020, 05:20:20 PM
There will be no adaptation, there will be forgetfulness!
This is very possible, humans I think are naturally inclined to block out possible bad outcomes, this stops us from constantly pondering the ways we can die and living in constant fear. However more people can become interested in prevailing health conditions, I read an article recently about the spread of infectious diseases between humans and animals being on the rise, it would be interesting to see how majority approach the situation.

Eh? Of course it's airborne. How else do these church choirs who all die a few weeks after getting together catch it?
AFAIK, there's no evidence to support the claim that the disease is airborne, if someone coughs or sneezes, the virus can travel a few feet before dropping to the ground, it can not travel much farther than this. However, there's very little we know about the virus as yet.

I doubt it would that much. I mean, yea DIY skills are really nice and all but nothing beats professional work.
On an individual level, it may not have much of an impact. How nations would react may be different, I wouldn't trust myself to do my plumbing work, but a country can invest more in agriculture and grow their own vegetables rather than importing them, and this could impact economies and international trades
4489  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: May 21, 2020, 03:37:47 PM
If Pjanic is going to Barca, Juventus will probably have Arthur.
If Pjanic is going for PSG, who will get Juventus? Verrati? maybe.
Considering the age difference, I doubt PSG or Barcelona would be interested in a swap deal. Author and Veratti are 23 and 27 respectively, and are both mainstays at their clubs. Pjanic (30 years) is good fit at either club but a swap deal is unlikely to happen, the player however seems keen on a move to Barcelona, one of the names that have been rumoured to be open to a swap deal is Jean-Clair Tobido who is currently on loan from Barcelona at Schalke.
4490  Economy / Economics / Would nations adopt a DIY approach post covid-19? on: May 21, 2020, 03:14:11 PM
Corona virus has impacted the world in many significant ways, and it has brought to the fore our basic human instinct: survival.
A global crisis is evident all around us, on news stations, articles, newspapers etc. Drastically low figures of stocks, businesses, GDP growth, [almost everything] seems to be on the decline, and all these points in the direction of a looming global recession.
As opposed to previous cases of recession; globally or limited to a specific country, which were caused by failure of banks, or a fall in the stock market, this one would be the result of a pandemic which slowed down global economies to a startling halt.

It is yet unclear when the pandemic would come to an end, or if we would have to adapt to live with it, but the reality is at some point the world would have to start moving again; we are already seeing signs of that in some countries.

What would be the situation, post covid-19?
One major goal of nations at the end of this pandemic would be to accelerate the economy, by encouraging spending, through providing loans to individuals and businesses, but nations are interdependent, with international relations playing a huge factor in the growth of an economy. Would this change and nations begin to take a more Do It Yourself approach?
While coronavirus is a global crisis, it has been tackled differently in various regions and we would have nations free from the virus, while others still battle with it, and some others still may have to adapt to living with it, how much of an impact would this have on international trades?

Asides natural resources, like oil and gold which nations possess inherently, other resources can be integrated in; Machine parts, food resources, etc. This could lead to greater internal investments on skills; and could increase employment, this would have more impact on nations with trade deficit. Although this would still have to be done in consideration of the Heckscher-Ohlin Model; which encourages nations to produce that which utilizes their abundant resources, but a heavy dependence on imports have allowed nations overlook possibilities that can be harnessed and maximized.

Side note: Do you also think this would have an effect on an individual level? Services such as in-house painting, furniture moving, plumbing work, food delivery etc from outside sources, the fear of contracting a virus could lead more people to take a more Do It Yourself approach and what impact would this have on home delivered services?
4491  Economy / Economics / Re: There's no way this is a "V-shaped" recovery... right? on: May 21, 2020, 07:59:23 AM
I expect we'll be having up and down movements over the next weeks, while remaining in the downrange. The general sentiments are gloomy, the effect of the lockdown visible in many economies and with an end to the pandemic not yet in sight, so I won't be expecting a quick recovery.

How has your asset allocation of stock, bonds, PMs, crypto changed? Are you more cash heavy right now?
I expect a heavy push of cash into the markets to encourage spending and revive economies, possibly leading to a inflation, this would likely lessen the weight of fiat.
4492  Economy / Economics / Re: Coinbase from February 2009 has just been moved! on: May 20, 2020, 04:59:13 PM
It's interesting, but not quite a significant event, there could be many versions of the story that would lead to someone having to move bitcoins mined in 2009 and it would be be almost impossible for us to predict right. Although, it shows how far Bitcoin have come in just a number of years. At the first year of it's creation miners may have generated blocks for fun, with a free actually believing in the concept of the network. And 50BTC then meant nothing, but not satoshis are worth significant amounts.

If these bitcoins were from the same year as bitcoin was created then most probably this is related Satoshi Nakamoto, but why they are moving this now?
It raises suspicion but it doesn't really tell anything to conclude that.
4493  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: May 20, 2020, 11:32:07 AM
^ the prestige of wearing the coveted number 10 jersey, coupled with being in his home country could be enough to lure Sane to Bayern. Manchester City are at the moment not going to compete in the next two UCL seasons (except that rule is countered) and every top player wants to play in the top competition.
4494  Other / Off-topic / Re: Protect your personal data: How hackers steal your data. on: May 20, 2020, 11:12:30 AM
Most people do not really care about their personal data, but when you chose to be your own bank as it is in the Bitcoin network, it becomes imperative to be extra vigilant. Useful tips like these, should be applied to ensure users don't fall victim.
How to stay safe:
* Always check the grammar and spelling.
* Think twice before clicking the links.
* Hackers tend to say some problems on your bank accounts, be wise and always assess the situation
More importantly, always bookmark important sites and save verified emails, hence whenever you receive a message and need to verify it, refer to the verified contact. Fake emails and accounts would surely have a difference in the spellings and wordings; for example; a 'capital i' in place of a 'small L'. Some of this changes may be difficult to spot, so always refer to the previously saved contact info.
4495  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: May 19, 2020, 07:58:33 PM
what club do you think he should play for next?
Pjanic is good with close control and playing long balls into space, he would be a good fit at Real Madrid or Chelsea (however Madrid is not included in the list). I would not fancy him at Barcelona as his style is similar to that of Ivan Rakitic, besides the midfield has lots of talent and breaking into the squad is not guaranteed.
However with Rabiot linked to a move to Man Utd, a move to Paris could become possible.
4496  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: May 19, 2020, 07:21:26 PM
I think Manchester City will try in the championship league season to win because otherwise they won't be able to enter the competition next season because there are sanctions against Manchester city.
AFAIK, those sanctions would not be lessened even if Manchester City does win the UCL this campaign they will still not be able to compete in the competition next season, their only hope of getting into the competition would be if their appeal is approved and according to BBC the hearing has been set for 2nd of June;
Quote
Manchester City's appeal against a two-year ban from European club competition will begin on 8 June at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

4497  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto's economic value is surprisingly low :'( on: May 18, 2020, 09:44:28 PM
"Stock market capitalization as percent of GDP, 2018 - Country rankings: The average for 2018 based on 63 countries was 70.95 percent."
(Taken from the Global economy)
To put this in perspective, the oldest stock market goes as far back as the 16th century and the wall street market was established around 1792 IIRC. Bitcoins' Genesis block was mined in 2009.

"The current number of unique active users of cryptocurrency wallets is estimated to be between 2.9 million and 5.8 million"
(Taken from Cryptocurrency benchmark study )

Taking into account the number of users of cryptocurrencies , it is quite shocking to see the world economy they are accounting for . It is both shocking plus unreasonable to see the abilities of cryptocurrencies being limited by both government and people.
Unique wallet addresses =/= unique users of Bitcoin. And it's surely not a good metric to go by to judge mass adoption of cryptocurrency. Take into account that there are thousands of cryptocurrencies of which a lot are worthless included in that figure.
4498  Economy / Economics / Re: Did COVID-19 Bring Any Positive Sign? on: May 18, 2020, 09:18:51 PM
If indeed there is any positive to he Covid-19 outbreak it would count as a pyrrhic victory as the bad far outweighs the good. Economies has been hit hard and some on the brink of recession affecting the lives of actual citizens.
One positive I would count is that extra attention would be giving to the health sector to enable it take proactive measures to such outbreaks like this. I read an article that claimed the a new infective disease was introduced into the world averagely every four months and majority of then come from animals.
Equipping the health sector including agencies for food management and hygiene would be effective m
4499  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: May 18, 2020, 05:22:13 PM
[Really, I don't know about ticket refunded before.
I just edited my reply to some rather than most, I had come across a couple of teams; Man City, Man Utd, Burnely and a couple of Spanish teams offering refunds, that is not really much. Majority of clubs are opting for a plan that would keep those tickets relevant till next season should fans be allowed into the stadium by then.
4500  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: May 18, 2020, 04:08:08 PM
But, every clubs need income, maybe make them buying a ticket even not going to stadium for the match can be a solution. Like giving a 50% discount for buying ticket. In this case maybe fans will accept it to support their clubs.
Fans would still have to pay to stream the matches live, so I doubt much people would be donating to the club. I think most some clubs in leagues that have been cancelled refunded season ticket holders.
If/When matches resumes in England, some sources of revenue would also resume, in match advertisement on stadium screens for example.

That's an awesome idea. Instead of pressing button for the chant sound, I think it would be more interesting if people could use the virtual people as their speaker and chant themselves thru the app, makes it more realistic and better.
There would be a lot of strange sounds heard in the stadium should this be applied
