5421  Other / Meta / Re: 4 Pages of Bounty Mega Spam on: June 26, 2019, 06:13:30 AM
There's also an option to report a users post history to moderators, introduced by admin @Cyrus, this makes it easier to handle such mega spam cases

After recent discussion about it's usefulness, I've made a small userscript to add the Report to moderator button on the Show lasts posts of this person page.

You can upload it to a user script manager (eg:GreaseMonkey for FF).
Code:
Code:
// ==UserScript==
// @name     Post history report button
// @version  1.1
// @grant    none
// @include  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=*;sa=showPosts*
// @include  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;threads;u=*;sa=showPosts*
// @require  https://code.jquery.com/jquery-2.2.4.min.js
// ==/UserScript==

var postLinks = $('td.middletext a:last-of-type');
var buttonLink = $("span.middletext").slice(1);

for (var i = 0; i < postLinks.length; i++) {
  var postLink = $(postLinks[i]);
  var reportLink = "<a href=" + postLink.prop("href").replace("index.php?", "index.php?action=reporttm;").replace(".msg", ";msg=") + ">Report to moderator</a>";
  $(buttonLink[i]).prepend (reportLink);
}

Here is how it looks:

5422  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Population rise and downsides on: June 25, 2019, 05:40:24 PM
If it gets worse and reaches the point where half the planet becomes uninhabitable, you can bet that it is the poorest countries that will suffer most.

At some point these countries have to get dependent and start thinking on their feet.
My country, Nigeria for example, is one of the largest producers of oil. While the rest of the world is looking towards other means of driving machines, which are more friendly to the environment and sustainable, we are stuck with oil which is gradually fizzling out.

Of course there are other countries which are direct consequences of external factors, and would need the help of developed Western Nations to curb climate change
We need to find a global solution to turn population rise to a positive.
5423  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [ Question ] Profile Photo & Copper Membership on: June 25, 2019, 05:09:57 PM
I've been trying to find a way to change my profile photo in this forum but apparently in the "Profiles" tag I was virtually unable to find an "upload" button.

The forum does not have a profile photo option. Only avatars, which can be used by full member rank and above only.

When I clicked it it didn't show what you will get from such membership

Copper membership lifts some of the limitations put on a newbie account account.

By popular demand, newbies can now pay to have some of their restrictions lifted. If you pay the fee, you become a Copper Member, and you can post images. That's the main point of this: allowing newbies to post images. Additionally (and these might change depending on how things go), Copper Members currently have these bonuses:

- Some of the same permissions as Member-rank members, such as reduced signature styling restrictions. (But none of the PM-related restrictions are currently lifted, such as the style limit or per-hour PM limit.)
- Your "you must wait ____ seconds between ___" counter is reduced by 75%. So if you're naturally of Newbie rank, you only have to wait 360-75% = 90 seconds.

If you paid an "evil IP" registration fee, then whatever you paid (in BTC terms) is subtracted from the upgrade fee. If you paid a registration fee a long time ago, you might even get a free Copper Membership due to the increase in BTC price. Just visit the link at the bottom of this post to check whether you have it already.

Edit*
Also, when I insert an IMGUR image link, it didn't show the image but it suddenly became a link under [img] tag

This is one of the limitations on newbie account which can be lifted by purchasing copper membership. As a newbie images are not displayed in your posts but image links

If you're looking to hire the services of an interpreter or make a request, you should make a post in the Service or Service Discussion child board. I believe that would be more appropriate.
5425  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Population rise and downsides on: June 25, 2019, 04:19:48 PM
I think over the next few years we'll see societies moving away from farmed meat consumption and towards both veganism and lab-grown meat.

We'll need to become less dependent on many other essentials and minerals, which are exhaustible to effectively support the growth of human life.
In this case I think the rural and developing countries would be worse hit as they'd get left behind as technology advances. Except of course there's a drastic change and improvement in the governance of these states.
5426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Privacy Coins on: June 23, 2019, 06:31:09 PM
Bitcoin was created to offer decentralization and anonymity to asset holders to enable transaction between two individuals without the direct intervention of a third party. This transactions are direct and unregulated, but are visible and traceable as the blockchain is an open ledger. While there is no real identity behind addresses, it's possible to link transaction together and have this provides a level of security risk.
This is the problem that privacy coins tackle.

What are privacy coins?

Privacy coins offer private transactions which are not transparent. It blurs certain information, such as amount transferred, address of individuals invloved or amounts held  in the wallets. This provides coin holders with a level of privacy and security.
Privacy coins is not a new technology, Monero; one of the most popular privacy coin was created in 2014 as a fork of bytecoin.
Check out this thread: [ANN][BMR] Bitmonero - a new coin based on CryptoNote technology - LAUNCHED. It was previously known as Bitmonero. Other privacy coins include, DASH, ZCASH and the more recently launched BEAM.

On the downsides, privacy coins has been identified by some as a medium for corrupt practices and money laundering with transactions that are difficult or impossible to trace. Although this has been a popular criticism for all other cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin. Considering that fiat currency can also be (and is) used for illegal activities as well,

Another con is the problem of scalability. It takes a lot of data to obfuscate transactions and some privacy coin networks also mixes up the transactions being confirmed by miners to make it more difficult to trace at the cost of scalability.
There's also the problem of the security of the network, and it's imperviousness to attacks.

Which is your favorite privacy coin?
Would you, or do you use privacy coins over utility and security coins?
5427  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does jr. member rank profitable in signature campaign nowadays? on: June 23, 2019, 03:14:18 PM
This is why I would like to.know if Jr. Members in rank still can earn huge reward in signature campaign?

The measure of earnings is dependent of the location of the participants and the state of economy if their nation, so you'd get varying answers. But in comparison with other ranks, jr members and members do not earn huge.

And also the age of ICOs has been on the decline over the past months, this has affected bounties and many altcoins, more attention is going to Bitcoin paying bounties nowadays.
Try to keep learning and improving your knowledge to try and rank up.
Improving your grammar would make your post more readable. Good luck!
5428  Other / Off-topic / Re: 3 merits available to send :) good posts (preferring newbies and jr members) on: June 23, 2019, 07:39:34 AM
I'll just delete this thread if possible.... And open one when I have enough merits...

It's not a necessity though, not everyone must open a giveaway thread. Award them to deserving posts as you come across them. And by all means do not hoard smerits in other to open a thread.
5429  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Population rise and downsides on: June 23, 2019, 06:35:12 AM
Most of the governments are struggling to give employment for all their people which increase poverty and the low standard of living.''If it happens everywhere then this world will become like a war field.

Industrialization is also playing a part. And also improper governing by those in positions of power. Population growth does not have to be a menace, it could be used as a positive if properly managed. We need to also increase family planning sensitization.

...

The earth has so much pollution and exploitation it can take. We all have to realize that it's not indestructible, and drop the idea of; 'not it our lifetime at least', as it's already shortening lifespans and causing damage to out generation.
5430  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice for newbies on: June 23, 2019, 04:11:18 AM
should be more focus on learning different information rather than earning btc while staying in this forum which is not the right thing to do.

There's nothing wrong in trying to earn BTC (or any other cryptocurrency on the forum). And they also work conversely, without learning and improving your posts, you are not likely to rank up and can not earn any BTC as such.
5431  Other / Meta / Re: Just a thought: make orange and green feedback black if it's a small percentage. on: June 22, 2019, 02:09:50 PM
Additionally, I suggest to make the green numbers black for users who have less than twice as much positive as negative trust.

This would make it more difficult for account to get redemption after getting multiple negative trusts, especially if the positive trust comes after, and is judged not to carry same weight (colour) as regular positive trusts.
And also puts the judgement of DTs who left the feedback up for discussion, while encouraging majority vote.
5432  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: African bitcointalk community hangout on: June 22, 2019, 01:56:16 PM
Invest wisely (DYOR).

That's the major point. If you dey Bitcoin you gats learn how to act independently.
All every other person can do is suggest, no one would give you advice, so as not to be partly responsible for the outcome. You also see such caveats at the end of articles online.
Invest wisely and view everything as a scam until proven otherwise
5433  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merit for Crypto (and other) Knowledge (no guide threads) on: June 22, 2019, 07:50:29 AM
You show yourself to have a good technical understanding of bitcoin and crypo (currency and graphy), and an interest in both. You also put in a lot of effort into most of your posts. Keep up the good work.

I appreciate the feedback, and also the merits. I find that I learn more as I write about topics and this spurs me to do more research. You have an amazing thread here. Keep up the good work  Wink

This topic has been moved to Serious discussion.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5155563.0 I would like more interactions and discussions and rate this to somewhat a serious topic.
5435  Other / Meta / Re: Make Trust flags visible in all sections on: June 21, 2019, 06:22:02 PM

That's by design

True. Would also be nice to see how long before (or if) the per post newbie warning sign is created.
If a welcome message is created anytime soon it could contain a message drawing attention to the trust signs, this would point newbies in the right direction.
5436  Other / Meta / Re: Make Trust flags visible in all sections on: June 21, 2019, 05:57:04 PM
I also believe that displaying flags by default to users that have less than 7 days of logged in time is not enough.
Imo, the time limit should be raised or the display of existing flags should be made more obvious.

7 days log in time takes quite a while to acquire and I believe was adopted as the bear minimum for a user to have gotten acquainted with the trust system and how to protect themselves from scams. I understand that it targets, newbies, jr members, members and in some cases also full members.
I would not mind the flags being made more obvious on comments of the user. The '#' is not very conspicuous. And not all flags attract the "Warning: Trade with extreme caution" text.
5437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I make a coin??? on: June 21, 2019, 08:59:27 AM
As mentioned above it depends on you current location. Tax evasion is a crime in all countries, but not all countries impose taxes on cryptocurrency transactions. You appear to be targeting those who do. If your current national location is also involved in taxation then you could be charged for aiding and abetting a crime.
5438  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDE] Overview of the trust flags on: June 21, 2019, 08:18:44 AM
...
I appreciate your suggestions and corrections. Still doing my research as there are already multiple threads on the topic.

Theymos also discussed about how support and opposition are sorted;
SafeDice has the honor of being the first to get an active scammer flag: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=396610

How is support/opposition to a flag displayed? Are those who are in my trust network always shown in larger font and first, and those outside of my trust network in smaller font and second, and then sorted by UID after determining if a person is in/out of my trust network?

Right, except that they're sorted by activity.
5439  Other / Beginners & Help / [GUIDE] Overview of the trust flags on: June 21, 2019, 07:24:24 AM
I decided to do brief research into the new trust system, to make it easier for users to understand the system all in one thread.

All accounts referenced are only used for examples, and I do not support or oppose the accusations.

What are trust flags?

Trust flags were introduced to diversify the trust system.
Introductory thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5153344.0
And to warn members that a certain user may be a scammer and is alleged to have violated written or implied contracts.
The previous trust system would provide an evaluation of the trust history of a user. It would give a general perspective into the trustworthiness or otherwise of forum users.
The trust system can be used for negative, positive or neutral feedback. Trust flags are only for negative feedback. Trust can be deleted, flags cannot be once active.

Trust flags need at least three more members supporting than opposing for it to be active. Only supports from your trust group is counted, for guests, the default trust is used.

Types of flags
- Newbie warning flags: This is given based on evidence suggested by others about a users untrustworthiness i.e actions not directly connected to you.

It is displayed above the user's topics and is only visible to newbies guests and members with less than 7 days log in time. While other users only see '#' beside the user's trust score.
Let's consider this user, The-One-Above-All. The account got has a newbie warming flag displayed above his/her profile

-: Contract-violation flags: This is given based on activity directly connected with you. For example, user NLNico activated a flag on the user SafeDice and got more support than opposition (>3). The flag is displayed on the users' (alleged scammer) trust summary and also above his topics (visible to all members)
You can also access it through the sent feedback of NLNico

Logged out users would also get a warning
Logged-out users will now see a warning in trust-enabled sections if more DT members neg-trust the topic starter than positive-trust  ;)him.

• Active flags display yellow color.
• Contract violation flags which includes a red trust displays red. And this activates the: "Warning: Trade with extreme caution" on the user's trust score
• Newbie warning flags above threads also displays in yellow and red colors.
• One can create both a newbie warning flag and a contract-violation flag
• You can not create a flag using a self-moderated thread as the link. It's also advisable to not use a post of the alleged scammer, rather archive the evidence, create a new post and link all the evidence there

Who can start a flag?

Anyone can start a newbie warning flag, it needs more supporters than opposers to be visible.

Anyone who is scammed by another user can also start a contract violation flag. You only view those created by users in your trust network. It needs at least three more supporters than opposers to be active.
Trusts flags can be created through a link on the users' profile
You should however be sure of your evidence before creating or supporting a flag;
Creating or supporting a scammer flag is actively affirming a set of pretty clear fact-statements. If someone knowingly supports a flag containing incorrect fact-statements, then that is crystal-clear abuse, and I will seek to have such people removed from DT ASAP. People who are habitually wrong, even not knowingly, should also be removed.

How long would a flag be visible when active?
In the spirit of forgiveness/redemption, scammer flags expire 3 years after the incident if the contract was casual/implied, and 10 years after the incident if the contract was written. These expiration times might be administratively changed in specific cases.

There are limits to flags created by a user:
[These limits are in place:
 - Per 180 days, you can only give 1 flag of each type to a given user. So you can't give someone multiple written-contract-violation flags in 180 days, for example.
 - Globally, per year you can only create 1 flag per activity point you have, but at least 1/year.

Does the flag system invalidate all previous negative trusts?

Negative trusts from the pre-flag system are not converted to trusts flags but
- If the number of pre-flags-system negative trust ratings is greater than the number of all positive trust ratings, a warning banner is shown for guests & low-login-time newbies.

Please drop your suggestions, additions and possible corrections.

It depends on if your account is still active. If it is considered plagiarism by the mods you'd be banned from the forum.
You can look through the rules and punishments for infractions here. That would give you a better understanding of the workings of the forum
