461  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transactions confirmation. on: January 11, 2024, 07:27:06 AM
I noticed that in every transaction I performed, I have to wait till after the transaction have surpassed 6 confirmation or rather 6 blocks before it can be mined by miners, so does it mean that it is necessary to wait till after the 6 confirmation before one could be comfortable with the transaction?

1 confirmation means your transaction is already included in a block by the miners and it is irreversible anymore.

If I am not wrong you are depositing funds to an exchange or casino or some other platform which has its own number of confirmations required before the balance appears and the number varies from one platform to another generally it will be 2/3/6. More the confirmation the difficulty of the transaction being reversed increases if there is any incident like a 51% attack so some platforms prefer the most to ensure there is no foul play.

Kraken allows use of its LN network.
It's not only Kraken, there are several other big exchanges that support LN including Binance, Bitfinex, Okex, etc.
But you don't need those exchanges to buy and sell Bitcoin, when there is p2p alternatives, Bisq exchange, AgoraDesk, and Robosats also works with Lightning Network and they don't have any kyc.

These p2p also suports LN withdrawals? I only use Paxful which is KYC p2p still it only has LN deposit festure not the withdrawal.

Exchanges have it like philipma1957 said but AFAIk LN withdrawals are available only for KYCed users and its good choice too compared to paying $10 as a fee for sending a $50 payment.

I am not sure it's been mentioned here already in case not yet then please note that Viabtc reduced 100 free slots per hour to 20 slots per hour and bots take over everything so its no longer an option now.

You think buying bigger hi res TV as a responsible way of spending?

I see spending money items that we use for entertainment to be irresponsible but that's my opinion and your money you have the way of spending it. But ask again, you are going to make your life better if you see big pictures in a TV or if you invest on something that may give you returns later. Smiley

Not really, it depends if the person can afford the entertainment or not.  If a person need to borrow money to buy his entertainment item then that is very irresponsible of a person but @OP don't borrow the money, instead he used his winnings to buy the item he wanted.  It is a free money that he bought for his entertainment and I do not think that is an irresponsible act.   It can be considered  a better way to spend his winnings than losing it all to casino.  But of course there are better ways of spending the money like what you have stated but a comparison between what @OP did and losing the money back to the casino, @OP did the better thing.
He spent it on something which I agree and I am glad that he didn't try to go back and win more money which is a responsible act it comes under responsible gambling in my opinion and it's a basic thing that every gambler should follow which also I agree.

But I can't say that he used it well, he could do a lot better that is what my point so in the future if OP gets the same opportunity then he should see the big picture of his life rather than just TV and I am saying if the winning is just a free money then why not try high risk/highreward assets?

I do agree that we have to live our life and for that money is the most important thing. Wink
One of the important thing probably but not the most important thing...
NO MONEY, NO HONEY!

All we can do is enjoy our loneliness if we have no money to spend and that is the reality.
464  Economy / Economics / Re: How to stay poor! on: January 10, 2024, 03:23:39 PM
Let's talk about some reality too, work hard like a 16-hour job and all days a week for 52 weeks straight you will still be poor because you are working hard to make someone else profitable and you get paid in salary. The job market dynamics also changing which forces the employees to keep working hard for their survival or else there are lots of people out there who will accept a job offer with lesser pay due to unemployment.

Investing is a way to make more money but I would say people should start with skill development and side hustles that will keep them above the others and also bring more revenue in net which can be saved then only the individual can start their investing career.

But what most people do is, see investment as a money-making opportunity and then assume they will be successful which makes them take loans or borrow money and start the journey from debt which is a mistake and will probably keep them poor forever.
465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 994 USD fees (30 Sat/byte) on: January 10, 2024, 09:20:03 AM
I want to move my wallet, and need to transfer all my coins. Electrum shows me 994 USD transaction fee to reach 30 Sat/byte.

First, you need to understand why it shows 994 USD as the fee, the fee of your transaction depends on a number of inputs/outputs/address types.

Which is explained by Charles-Tim
Formula:
For legacy address: vbyte= Input*148 + output*34 + 10 plus or minus input
For nested segwit: vbyte= Input*93 + output*32 + 10 plus or minus input
For segwit version 0: vbyte= Input*68 + output*31 + 10 plus or minus input
For pay-to-taproot: vbyte= Input*57.5 + output*43 + 10 plus or minus input
If you consolidated your 500 inputs when fee was cheaper then you can send the same transaction with a fee of 2-3 USD.

Is there any cheaper option? For example importing the addresses to a wallet with lightning channel?

You can't do anything, just wait for the fee to get cheaper or just move the coins only you want to move at the moment using coincontrol feature so you no need to spend all your 500 UTXOs which is what making the transaction size bigger so does the fee as well.

LN needs opening and closing channel which requires onchain transaction so its not really an option.

As for reinvesting money, some people are too obsessed with it to the point that they only reinvest and never afford anything, then one day they realize that what they wanted all along they actually don't need anymore. Life is too short and every day can be our last - that's why I say "Memento Vivere".

Having a million dollars and buying a high-end tech is really different from having $100 as a bank balance and buying $1000 worth of TV. You are talking about the former but I am talking about the latter which is the majority who are unaware of financial independence get caught up in the consumerism trap and they work all their life to make someone's bank account get fat.

I do agree that we have to live our life and for that money is the most important thing. Wink
467  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum: send transactions status Unconfirmed after 12 hours on: January 08, 2024, 05:54:37 AM
@hosseinimr93 and @o_e_l_e_o:
What if:
1. I remove the local transaction from the sending wallet
2. I spend all the coins
3. Can later one of the nodes which has my transaction actually complete it? If yes, then what happens?

If the second transaction is confirmed then the previous one will become invalidated and will be removed from the mempool.

Then you may wonder what if both the TXs included in the same block, like I did and here is why it will never happen explained by o_e_l_e_o

If both transactions are valid then both transactions can be included in the same block too if the fee is used in the same range then what happens?
The default behavior of a node is never have two or more conflicting transactions in its mempool. When it accepts a replacement, it evicts the original. As such, it would never create a candidate block which contains two conflicting transactions. Should some mining pool edit their software and accidentally mine a block containing conflicting transactions, all other nodes on the network would reject it as being invalid.
468  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum: send transactions status Unconfirmed after 12 hours on: January 07, 2024, 04:49:36 PM
I purposely set it to the lowest possible because the actual amount is under $1, so there is no point in paying ~$20 to speed them up. These are my initial test transactions before I sweep the wallet and send entire balance to the receiving wallet.
What does it mean if I use Remove?
- will it cancel the transaction and reset the balances in both wallets to the pre-transaction value? If Remove is not the same as cancel, how do I cancel?

As explained above, removing the local transaction will make the balance reappear and there won't be a trace of the transaction under electrum history. So by removing you can able to spend the amount with the higher fee but if the amount you are sending is less than the fee then consider it as dust and don't bother moving it.

Anyone here who retired with Gambling winnings ?  If not, how much you think is sufficient to retire as Gambling winning ?

10 Million, I guess is enough for me. Cheesy

I haven't really known anyone who retired from their job after winning some pretty big money in all these years and I only witnessed this kind of scenario from the news articles which means it happens very rarely. And I am certainly not lucky enough to be on that side.
470  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum: send transactions status Unconfirmed after 12 hours on: January 07, 2024, 01:49:08 PM
I sent a small amount of BTC between my two Electrum wallets. After almost 12 hours the transactions status is still Unconfirmed in both wallets.
From Wallet:
Unconfirmed [1.5 sat/b, 503.19 MB]
Unconfirmed [1. sat/b, 503.39 MB]
To Wallet:
Unconfirmed [1.5 sat/b, 503.39 MB]
Unconfirmed [1. sat/b, 503.39 MB]
You can't really broadcast a transaction with 1.5sat/b with the current network congestion because most of the electrum servers will reject the TX and probably you will get an error like this.

The server returned an error when broadcasting the transaction. Consider trying to connect to a different server, or updating Electrum. insufficient fee

I don't think this is normal. How do I get this resolved?
thanks

Use the bump fee feature and set the fee over 30sat/vbyte for your transaction to get included in the next block.

Judging by the fact that this changed suddenly, it looks like there's only one person (or one group of people) behind all Ordinal spam!
Most likely, they kept pushing these spam tokens really hard so that people would really think it has a future to grow further and then suddenly pulled the plug?

The price of ORDI is on the decline for the last few days and now whoever is holding those tokens are the people now spending a sensible amount as a fee.

473  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The most logical and profitable game on: January 06, 2024, 12:18:38 PM

Demo is different from the actualy game because it is an ideal situation and do not factor in some parameters. The real game surely be design against the player because the company must make profit to remain in business. If demo is as difficult as the real game, you might be scared to try the real game. Most games are designed this way with just few Exceptions. I think this is why people believe that live games are easier to win because they present a level playing field.

I don't think so, and if its designed in that way then they are deceiving the users and the casino should not be trusted in my opinion.

All I can say its just the difference when we use fake money to bet on demo games and real money in actual games cause the bet amount determines the duration of out game play and longer we play with lesser risk then winning once in a while is inevitable but with this strategy, we never gonna make enough to cover the lost bets and that is when the real challenge kicks in, high-risk high reward.

When I need a win I’ll check out Plinko. Move the odds to the best possible and the most amount or rows… You can gamble all day and barely make or lose anything. Not very productive, especially with smaller amounts, but if you need a win or to just amuse yourself for a bit it’s definitely a good option to consider.

I saw some demonstrations too in the last few days probably on Tiktok (I don't remember) and where the ball lands mostly when we drop from the board and it most likely in the middle region but why I didn't have the same experience whenever I played Plinko, I win big with the demo but with actual bet money the result will always not be in my favor.

And they decreased the number of hourly free transactions to 20.

That's new and pretty bad, so I guess the platform failed to stop whoever is abusing their service now reduced the slots and hoping that would put an end. Yeah, maybe this will be the end of the free transaction accelerator. Smiley

Few more minutes for the refresh time and I would like to see the changes really made a difference...

Edit: 20 spots filled in the next second so yeah this the end.
476  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting on underdog by choosing a favorite spread to increase the odds. on: January 05, 2024, 05:21:41 PM
Talking for myself, I don't really bet on sports based on the odds alone, I also see it myself as a fanatic about that particular team or franchise then I will be willing to take a little risk with my money even if it is an underdog.

But generally, it is one of the calculated risks taken by sports bettors and I don't think it doesn't pay off well because we never know the probability of an underdog beating the favorites but it does happen in the sports and that day is unpredictable and that is why the gambling always thrills the users.
477  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [A POLL] Without Chances of Making Money, Will you still be gambling? on: January 05, 2024, 02:32:11 PM
if games were built to be played with money on casinos like we do now, with absolutely no chances of making money even when you win a game, would you still be spending money playing this games or betting on sports games?

Why on earth I will spend money to play casino games because I can do the same from mobile itself which is called games.

If you remove the money from gambling then it is supposed to come under the category of games and it doesn't make sense to spend money to play basic games. Even though money should not be the prime motive of someone to gamble still its the essence which brings the thrill feature for basic game just because of the money is at stake and the results are unpredictable.
478  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet access re-instatement, restore on: January 05, 2024, 01:07:37 PM
First of all, the password used on Electrum wallet is to encrypt the wallet file so in case if someone got the wallet file from your device they can't decrypt it without the password used.

But when you have the right seedphrase, you do not need the wallet file at all just importing it will restore everything as it used to be. FYI, bitcoins are stored in the blockchain and wallet is just an application to access the funds in it via your private keys.
479  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What risks come with using a public Bitcoin node for handling your transactions? on: January 05, 2024, 09:15:27 AM
What are the significant privacy and security risks associated with using a public Bitcoin node for processing transactions, and how might these risks impact user anonymity and transaction security?

Connecting to the third-party node will not compromise the security of the transaction in any way, so you no need to worry about the funds you are sending to someone who will be at any risk if the transaction has been confirmed already.

But the privacy part which has been explained already, your IP will be exposed which can be avoided by connecting via TOR and all the addresses will be known to the node that you connect.

What else it will cause is, you always have to rely on someone to validate your transactions that is why it is advised to run your own node.
480  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Shared games helped you before? on: January 04, 2024, 05:33:54 PM
Plus they would be used to giving you a call, and then eventually it will reach the time that they would ask for a small amount for them to also bet. There's nothing wrong with saying no, he might tell you that someone won to make you feel bad.

Asking a friend for money to feed me or my family is acceptable but asking money for our short-term pleasure like gambling isn't right but still, we can give them if we are too rich to consider the amount is negligible but as a friend, it never be on the good side of the moral scale.

Tricking a friend to get the favor is cheating that kind of people should be avoided for life.
