Hey, Ck.
Whats the cost of running this pool?
I never did answer this question. It's hosted by a friend so it's relatively discounted and about $1000USD/year.
462  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 252 blocks solved! on: October 19, 2019, 07:27:15 PM
Would really like to be able to set diff d=xxxxxx on this pool. Instead of staying at 10k.

--suggest-diff on cgminer works on this pool
463  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 252 blocks solved! on: October 17, 2019, 09:33:15 PM
Ok,
So in renting a few ph/s.
Should I rent a large >50 ph/s for a few hours hours
or
Rent <25 ph/s for 12+ hrs?

Whats the better route?
It makes no difference to your chance of finding a block if you do both during the same difficulty period. However, you get to watch and hope for longer with the lower hashrate Smiley
464  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 252 blocks solved! on: October 16, 2019, 01:36:37 AM
That said the bitcoin block find method does not seem fare, highest pool hashrate win the majority. Why can they not make a method that selects pools at random to evenly distribute the blocks between pools, no matter the hash-rates?
Proof of work is bitcoin's greatest strength and its greatest Achilles heel. There is no fair way to do what you ask. Even a completely redesigned proof mechanism that attempts to do what you ask would be exploitable. This has been debated to death since its inception by much smarter people than me.
465  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 252 blocks solved! on: October 16, 2019, 01:06:57 AM
But I cannot pay the bills with months between blocks - I just am not that large or have pockets that deep - sadly. I am also at my lowest hashrate ever right now, having just around 64 TH total. I hope to be back over 100 TH before the end of the year and hopefully up to 200 TH by the halving.
That's right, and the only way to regularly get payouts is to be with a bigger pool. Back to size we go. I didn't say miners are doing the wrong thing by sticking with size, it's just a catch 22 that makes small pools even smaller. There is no way to make small pools work in the current climate any more. No one is going to move to a small pool unless they believe in the principle and don't care about the risk, and only small miners can do this. The only way to start up a new pool is if you already have a mining conglomerate planned to dump their hashrate there so usually the pool and the miners are the one entity.

The small personal home miners are dead, completely and utterly dead. The remainder of you guys that are doing it are unbelievably persistent and I salute you, but nothing can rescue mining from this situation any more, except for bitcoin falling to below $100 again causing all the big miners and mining companies to go bankrupt. None of us want that to happen to bitcoin's value (except all-in shitcoiners and forkedshitcoiners, although they don't realise that if bitcoin dies, all shitcoins die even more.) That's why, to be honest, I'm surprised I still have miners on my two pools. If you all left, I'd quietly shut them down without any regrets, but I'd feel bad for the people on ckpool.org that have been hanging in there waiting for the next block. But bitcoin has been good to me, and I'm maintaining them as a service back to the community if you want me to continue.
466  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 252 blocks solved! on: October 15, 2019, 08:27:07 PM

what I dont get is why your pool mining isnt larger - you are a zero fee there right? would think that would be huge!

Multiple reasons, but it's proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's not fee that determines where people mine.

Inertia.
Size attracts more size.
Advertising.
Size attracts more size.
Fancy shit webshites.
Size attracts more size.
Deals with big miners.
Size attracts more size.
Trust perception (haha)
Size attracts more size.
Preconfigured pool defaults by mining companies
Size attracts more size.

You probably get the picture by now what is the most important factor, right?

Alright, if you're all still keen for this pool to keep running, then I'll keep it going. I don't need handouts to keep it running but thanks for the offer. This, and the other pool, are pretty much only running as a service to the community now and won't ever make me money any more. If you feel like donating absolutely as a sign of support, that's a different story, and welcome.

A block would be nice. It's getting hard to justify running this pool since it hasn't even been paying for its running costs in quite a while.

I remember those days.  And remember when we had pools for a big rental to hit a block.
Now -cK is neglecting us 😭😭😭
Only pays attention to his other .org pool
Oy.

Everything that is not a bitcoin is a shitcoin?

Now you're learning.

What could I mine on GPU then?
You are in the wrong place to ask that question, but basically, NOT bitcoin. Seek help in shitcoin forums for what you can mine.
473  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 252 blocks solved! on: August 12, 2019, 12:03:24 PM
Ok, but is that a reason? I understand it's not profitable, but still... it does find something, doesn't it?
You are looking at debug saying your GPU found something, but holy shit batman it isn't even remotely close to being a real share so we won't bother submitting it. One in about 10,000 of those useless share will be an actual share.
474  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 252 blocks solved! on: August 12, 2019, 11:59:27 AM
I am mining on GPU

What am I doing wrong?
I have marked in bold what you are doing wrong. Basically everything. Bitcoin hasn't been mined on GPU for about 7 years.
475  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool US/DE/CN on: August 10, 2019, 08:40:57 PM
CGMiner showing 9.98T this morning   Shocked

When the halving happens is this number affected?
No
476  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CKPOOL - Open source pool/proxy/passthrough/redirector/library in c for Linux on: August 07, 2019, 08:31:09 AM
Locking this thread as well I'm afraid. The era where this software mattered is over, and I've lost interest in supporting it any further.
477  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool US/DE/CN on: August 05, 2019, 09:19:28 PM
ckpool's 0% fee seems really amazing (thank you CK!), but I'm worried about the lucky prizes + finder's fees integrated into the payout system...feels too much like gambling & makes it difficult to predict earnings. How much of a difference do they make at the end of the day?

Short ramp up & long ramp down also sounds like the stock market: if someone's winning, someone else is losing...

Can anyone do some sample calcs/graphs based on a single S9 (14TH/s) to explain?

Regards,
cjs_777
Its main function is as a deterrent to block withholding and broken miners, and for the amusement. Regular miners within a few days it makes no difference to their overall payout.
478  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CKPOOL software - Free pool/database/proxy/passthrough/library in c for Linux on: July 24, 2019, 03:56:55 AM
yes i did it from logs, but are you aware killing ckpool is dropped most of time ?

ckpool -k

doesn't kill the process, i tried various other combinations too
Buggy proxy code. Never got around to fixing it. Lost any interest thanks to other events.
479  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CKPOOL software - Free pool/database/proxy/passthrough/library in c for Linux on: July 23, 2019, 09:34:46 PM
ckproxy -p runs fine !

what could the best option to see the proxy status in nice web UI ?
No such thing exists. You'd have to build your own, sorry.

CK would you have an idea of how much hash rate would be needed to make solves here every month?
About 15PH (and rising.)
