461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FedEx is investing and confident about Bitcoin on: May 17, 2018, 11:11:05 PM
This is not related to BTC at all, and I'm not even convinced that a blockchain would be better than a conventional database for Fedex's needs. A blockchain keeps on growing forever, whereas most businesses archive their files after a few years. Then, there's no relation between a parcel sent from NY to the UK in 2015, and a letter sent from Japan to California in 2018. It's useful with a cryptocurrency to follow the money, but there's no following needed once a parcel has been sent.
462  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IS IT VERY TRUE THAT NIGERIAN YOUTHS ARE VERY LAZY AS STATED BY PRESIDENT BUHARI on: May 17, 2018, 11:01:21 PM
Nigerian women are hard workers. You see them every night on the streets, all over Europe, selling themselves for 30€.
463  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Busted: Britain Confiscates $700,000 in Bitcoin from Hacker on: May 08, 2018, 08:38:17 PM
West was arrested last year on a train after a lengthy investigation by police authorities who were able to gain access to his bitcoin accounts as he was logged in at the time of his arrest.

...

USA Today has also reported that Investigators also gleaned encrypted access codes saved on West’s computer.

The police forces were very, very lucky! This will make me rethink my computer's security. I'm no hacker, and I'm no criminal, but I don't want anyone to be able to gain access to my wallets by seizing my computer.
464  Other / Politics & Society / UK taxman is getting mightier and mightier on: May 02, 2018, 06:53:54 PM
In the European Union, it's impossible to buy real estate by using a front (a company in the Carribean) to make you anonymous. The only exception is the UK, which allows property ownership from a shell company based in its territories. Well, this is about to change:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-britain-tax-territories/uk-territories-ordered-to-open-up-about-secretive-companies-idUSKBN1I23S3

If some had thought that the UK would get any freer by leaving the EU, this is just another sign that this won't be the case.
465  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Europe Wants To Know Who You Are? on: April 25, 2018, 10:43:49 PM
I thought everybody knew the European Union was turning into a fascist state. It has already happened in France, the Netherlands, and Denmark, to name only 3 countries. I don't think the people living there deserve to be called humans. They are not in my mind. They're vegetables.

The solution, which I was happy to put in practice is to leave. I had properties in the EU, I've sold them. I've had bank accounts in the EU, I've closed them. I've gained freedom and wealth. Every European should do it.
466  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Japanese Goverment Reviews Proposal to Legalize Initial Coin Offering(ICO) on: April 24, 2018, 09:17:52 PM
Well, this was expected. Many ICOs are nothing but scam operations with the only goal to make a quick buck by stealing people' savings. Regulations would make it more difficult to launch an ICO, so scammers should be left at the door.
467  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What are your thoughts on Anarchism? on: April 24, 2018, 09:12:04 PM
I'm an anarchist. I'm proud of it, but very, very few people are willing to live the way I do.
Anarchism means no income tax, but also no welfare and no national health insurance.
Most people nowadays couldn't live outside of their nanny state's umbrella. I think it's very sad but that the way it is, and it's only getting worse. With each new government, countries only get mightier and mightier while individuals are turning into sheep.
468  Economy / Economics / Re: World debt hits new record: good for BTC on: April 19, 2018, 10:00:26 AM
Yes, I agree there's no direct relation but it shows the real economy, the economy we're living in is built on debt. In several countries, debt is larger than GDP, more and more economists think that this is just too much, it will never be paid back...

On the other hand, BTC, with its limited supply, will only be stronger and stronger.
469  Economy / Economics / World debt hits new record: good for BTC on: April 18, 2018, 04:00:49 PM

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-18/world-debt-hits-record-164-trillion-as-crisis-hangover-lingers

$164 trillion! That is an awfully big pile of money, but governments think it's not big enough. They keep on borrowing more every year. If there's no crash, it will be a miracle.

Pray God.
Or buy BTC!

470  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Which country to Immigrate for making fortune in crypto currency on: April 16, 2018, 06:54:52 PM
No doubt you have to live your country. With this much money, you can choose where you want to go.
You should ask yourself where do you want to live. What kind of climate you like? Do you want to be in a big city, or in the countryside?

I would recommend to choose 2 countries. One to cash your cryptos, and another one to live.
471  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: ECB Official Calls for Tax on Bitcoin Transactions on: April 12, 2018, 08:07:41 PM
VAT? What's that nonsense?
If you buy stocks, there's no VAT. I'm not familiar with the Austrian tax system, but I doubt there's a VAT on financial products.
I do understand capital gains tax on BTC, though.
Regarding money laundering, I don't think that ECB official is familiar with exchanges or cryptos trading. If you want to buy or sell several BTC, it's next to impossible to do it anonymously.
472  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coming to a Home Depot near you. on: April 10, 2018, 08:42:31 PM
Solar tiles have been available for many years. What's new is their availability at stores for the DIY crowds. but I'm not sure many people will buy them. I mean I can fix electricity and some plumbing at my home, but I can't imagine to redo my roof myself.
473  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitfinex locked my 500 BTC account and is asking for police report on: April 10, 2018, 08:32:11 PM
Just one question: are you a liar or an a**hole?

You don't imagine how careful big BTC holders are with their keys and passwords.
474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: With Governments Banning Bitcoins. Its Going To be Dead By 2020 on: April 09, 2018, 03:29:38 PM
Some people like me just do not care about what governments are doing. Besides, a few governments cannot change the world. They may ban BTC but other governments will look at it and see an opportunity.

You may also remember the prohibition last century in the US. Alcohol was forbidden, but plenty of people didn't respect the law and kept on drinking, and the government had to reverse the law.

I can't tell the future, but I can't imagine BTC being killed by governments.
475  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Qompass project allows user to buy, trade or exchange digital for local fiat on: April 08, 2018, 05:09:56 PM
Like thousands, I've been buying, selling and trading various cryptos with various fiat currencies for years. And all that without Qompass, nor investing in any ICO.
476  Economy / Economics / Re: "Bitcoin's true value the cost to mine one" on: April 08, 2018, 05:06:16 PM
I don't like the word "value". We shall think of "production cost" and "market price".

Now, if you look at an Apple Iphone or at a Ford Mustang, you'll see there's a substantial difference between the 2.

You may also note that production cost can vary depending of wages and labor regulations (think China versus the US), just like market price, because of local taxation, or sometimes the shop owner/dealer's appetite for money.
477  Bitcoin / Project Development / Business opportunity: make a better Bitpay on: April 05, 2018, 04:39:22 PM
I've bought a flight ticket with BTC 2 days ago. The airline company used Bitpay as an intermediary and its service was highly unsatisfying.

2 minutes after I had completed the transaction with Electrum, I received an email to tell me that my payment wasn't confirmed! I don't how skilled is the average Bitpay user, but I think most people know that BTC transactions require more than 2 minutes to get confirmed. I thought I would receive another email when it would be, but I didn't. Nor did the airline company. I had to call them, several hours after my payment was confirmed, and they finally sent me an email to confirm my ticket about 18 hours after my BTC transaction was completed. I didn't get any more news from Bitpay.

I was expecting more...

478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India closes doors for Crypto Currency on: April 05, 2018, 04:20:54 PM
We used to think of India as the world's largest democracy, maybe we should think of it as the world's largest fascist country. They had demonetized the largest bills last year, and now that the banks have a much tighter grip on everybody's money, the central bank wants to close one of last remaining way to get your money out of the government's hands and eyes. This is India, this is fascism.

Hopefully, this is only temporary. Looking further down the road, governments can change, too.
479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where do you store your 24 word phrase? on: April 03, 2018, 04:18:45 PM
I guess I'm lucky because I have the perfect hiding place at work.

It's part of my job to manage a very large MySQL database on a secured server (besides me, only one person has admin access). It has several text fields, and my 12 words Electrum password is hidden in there. I can access it easily because I know the relevant unique ID, but it would be impossible to find it using any SQL request.

This is my advice: hide text within text. If you're smart, you could hide a 24 word phrase right here, on this board (but you'd need a backup in case this website goes down).
480  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Blockchain could be illegal in the European Union. on: March 29, 2018, 05:32:02 PM
I'm all in favor of strong personal data protection. Regulations shall not change because of some new data storage architecture. Nobody said that a blockchain would be better than a conventional MySQL database for storing personal data. Actually, only a very limited type of data would be better in a blockchain.

And when you think of it, the first millions of transactions in BTC's blockchain are crap. I made my first real transaction in 2015, and the hundreds of transactions I made before that were coming from faucets, or me playing by moving BTC from one wallet to another with different software. Crap! And don't forget the millions of spammy transactions we had last year.

The MySQL databases I'm running at work are much more efficient than any blockchain.
