1381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New maker-taker fees at Poloniex on: March 11, 2016, 11:09:54 PM
Bot users? On Poloniex? Do you have more info about it. I'm surprised to learn Poloniex allows this, even though I understand it is possible.

Poloniex has a page for the API documentation, and another for API keys, so there are trading bots on Poloniex.
A well known bot that can trade on the Poloniex platform is the CAT bot.

Hmm, thanks for info. I'm still relatively new to the altcoins scene. My interest dates from the failure of Bitcoin core to fix the block size/scalability issue, so it's recent.

Yes, API access. I hadn't noticed it.
1382  Economy / Economics / Re: Negative interest rates continue: German bank first nonstate borrower <0% bond on: March 11, 2016, 11:04:47 PM
Who will buy this bond?
It's the most stupid thing someone could do. You may as well flush your money in the toilet. Happily, there are other options. In Germany or Switzrland, it remains possible to have an account which generates positive interest.
1383  Economy / Economics / Negative interest rates means cash is better than banks on: March 11, 2016, 11:00:52 PM
I'm surprised not to read anything about this, but with all that euro-craziness with negative interest rates, it means that putting your money in the bank equals shrinking your savings. So it's better to hide some cash under the mattress.

I wonder if the negatives interest rates could be linked to the fight against large banknotes like the €500 bill.
1384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New maker-taker fees at Poloniex on: March 11, 2016, 10:47:09 PM
PS:
A legend account user should know by now this Topic is CLEARLY the wrong forum section for this.
See ya in Service discussion OP Wink

No, I don't think so. The Services discussion is for services in BTC, whereas Poloniex is for trading altcoins only. It's not an exchange, you can't even buy BTC via Poloniex.

This is great news for filthy bot users.

Bot users? On Poloniex? Do you have more info about it. I'm surprised to learn Poloniex allows this, even though I understand it is possible.
1385  Economy / Economics / Re: How the Chinese Move Their Money Out of the Economy on: March 10, 2016, 11:49:26 PM
Surprising that they didn't mention the biggest, which is Chinese citizens going to Hong Kong, buying things with credit, then returning those things to the store for cash, which can be in any denomination. Then they take the cash to a HK bank, open an account, and badabing they have an overseas bank account.

That is kind of cumbersome, right? Plus when you deposit cash in a bank (especially large amounts), aren't questions asked?
This method (if it works) is also risky for stores because of the risk of chargebacks.

I can't believe this method is used on by many. Not many stores have a gentle "open arms" policy towards customers returning goods they don't want anymore. Especially when customers are not local, I mean Hong Kong shops accepting goods returned from people who do not live in Hong Kong.
1386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / New maker-taker fees at Poloniex on: March 10, 2016, 11:38:47 PM
I believe Poloniex is the largest marketplace for altcoins, so a topic about the new fees structure seems appropriate here.

To those who haven't noticed, the flat, standard, 0.2% fee will go, replaced by a maker-taker system.

I kinda like the idea of a lower fee for the person who creates an order. This will entice more people to make orders, and that's good. I also like the idea of diminishing fees for the people who trade more, but what I don't like is that the lower fees require a monthly volume of trades over 600 BTC!
Who's doing that? Making 20 BTC worth of trades every single day of the month! That is huge.
1387  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Chuck Norris Endorses...Ted Cruz on: March 10, 2016, 11:24:17 PM
Chuck Norris? Wow! I'm sure he's honest, and that he doesn't expect anything in return of his backing. Now, I'm afraid his endorsement isn't worth much. I've been surprised to learn he's 76 though, I though he was younger. Maybe he will help convince some seniors, then.
1388  Economy / Economics / Re: European Central Bank cuts interest rates to 0% from 0.05% on: March 10, 2016, 11:18:55 PM
Well, that's good for BTC. This shows the world that fiat money is crumbling. More quantitative easing may eventually help some part of the economy but it will assuredly depreciate the currency even more.
1389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satisfaction rating - Bitcoin Core Developers on: March 09, 2016, 07:31:21 PM
I gave them a pretty poor rating. Sorry to their supporters, but the block size and scalability issue has been around for more than 3 quarters. It should have been solved last year already.

About that very unscientific survey, why is the lowest rating below the highest? A linear order would have been better.
1390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: One thing Ethereum has which BTC hasn't on: March 09, 2016, 07:22:31 PM
Ethereum has a clear, identified leader: Vitalik Buterin.

BTC had Gavin Andreesen as its frontman for a long time, and now that he's gone, BTC has stalled. Well, it's actually more complicated than this, but everybody can see that BTC has a governance problem [...]

Then again,
Germany had Hitler

~CfA~

@From Above

This is the first and last time we're having an exchange, as I'm now ignoring you. I won't see your posts anymore. Sorry Sir, but there are no places for making a reference to nazi Germany in an average conversation such as this topic.

hmm strange i had no idea Vitalik had a "good" reputation.. news to me LOL

Take my money now ?

EDIT:
I love how you guys think ETH's centralized figure is comparable to a decentralized coin team member.
Like in your warped minds the two are actually comparable LOL

Jeez you guys are REALLY reaching to try and prop up ETH eh ?
It shows extreme desperation.. as the price slides.

Actually, I would prefer to support a decentralized organization like the one behind BTC, but I just see it's not working. I'll change my mind when the scalability issue will be solved. This summer, maybe?

By the way, I'm not saying Vitalik Buterin has a good reputation (or not). I don't know him. I can't say. What I'm saying is that he is knowledgeable, and very active in his projects. He has created the one and only altcoin that may one day challenge BTC.

1391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone had a problem with Poloniex not filling orders? Are they pumping Ether? on: March 09, 2016, 07:12:50 PM
I have currently 4 open orders on Poloniex, including one BUY order which could have been filled since the market price has been one short moment below the limit I've fixed, but it quickly went back up after that. So I guess there wasn't enough time for a buyer to come up. Those things happen. Note also that sometimes, the Poloniex website is slow. I've had to repeat orders a few times because there weren't saved the first time.
1392  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do terrorist orgaizations exist? on: March 09, 2016, 07:06:39 PM
Of course terrorist organizations exist, most government started as such. When the US was a British colony, the people fighting for independence were terrorists. IS is a terrorist organization to most of us, but it's trying to act and look like a legitimate government in Syria. That's the most difficult point, the breakaway moment when terrorists become legit.
1393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / One thing Ethereum has which BTC hasn't on: March 09, 2016, 12:24:23 AM
Ethereum has a clear, identified leader: Vitalik Buterin.

The guy's now well-known, and respected because of his great knowledge of anything related to crypto-currencies. BTC had Gavin Andreesen as its frontman for a long time, and now that he's gone, BTC has stalled. Well, it's actually more complicated than this, but everybody can see that BTC has a governance problem. The block size and scalability issue has been hanging above our heads for 3 quarters. Ethereum, nor any altcoin, suffers from the same lack of vision, because there's a manager at the top who is able to fix things, and solve problems when they arise.

Decentralization is certainly an exciting concept, but it doesn't make things easy when there's a problem.
1394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do ETH investors understand Ethereum? on: March 09, 2016, 12:19:50 AM
Not understanding how something works isn't a problem. I'm sure thousands don't understand BTC, let alone how the microwave oven works in their kitchen, but that doesn't prevent them from using it. Yes, Ethereum is an altcoin, and it's also much more. So let's just say that it's better, and worth more. I guess it will be easier to understand once some apps built upon it get famous.

Five Months in Syria: Russia Has Made History
As Assad himself has said, 80 countries have conspired against Syria's sovereignty. Thanks to Iran, Russia, and the perseverance of the Syrian army, their plans have been destroyed. Are we not witnessing history? Is this not a new "international order"?

Putin continues to insist that Russia has no ambitions as a world power. It may be true. But it doesn't change the fact that Russian power has prevented the west from annihilating yet another Middle Eastern nation.

Russia has made history.

http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/russias-help-syrian-army-has-doubled-its-territory-aleppo/ri13099

Russia has not changed history. It's quite the contrary, Russia's doing all it can to bring things back the way they were and stop history. But things must change. If we want peace in the Middle East, we need new border lines for Syria and Irak and the creation of a Kurdish state. There was a civil war in Syria before IS was created, so destroying IS is only one part of a solution, and restoring the Syria of 6 years ago is no solution at all.

They´ve made history in that they´ve achieved more in five months than useless U.S./NATO military has in 13 years in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen (the last being screwed up by the boil on the ass of the usual bunglers).

Yes, you may say that. They've achieved more, but what they've achieved was what nobody wanted. Russia is restoring the old Syrian state with its fascist president and fantasy-drawn borderlines. Who's happy with that besides the Assad family?

I'm waiting for what's coming next, the redrawing of all borders between Turkey, Syria and Irak, with the long overdue creation of a Kurdish state.
1396  Economy / Economics / Re: How the Chinese Move Their Money Out of the Economy on: March 07, 2016, 10:43:27 PM
In every country where there are some kind of capital controls, people are fighting back with different ways to bypass them. China's no different than others. One problem though, is that China doesn't have large denomination banknotes. Smuggling cash out of the country require larges suitcases.
1397  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Need some official testers on: March 07, 2016, 10:39:22 PM
Why should I register? It strikes me that your website should start telling new visitors why they should register. What's the goal? What's the gain? What's the use? It's shocking to see that to those who discover your website without passing through this board, you ask them to register first, without convincing them why they should do so. Or did you modify your website for this topic?

1399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Epic Ethereum 200 million dollar price collapse a severe warning to investors!!! on: March 06, 2016, 06:10:52 PM
$200 million price drop? No big deal.
Doesn't anyone remember that BTC market cap had lost one billion last month, and $1.5 billion last December? All cryptos are wild rides. BTC remains the strongest by far, but if the scalability issue isn't solved soon, I wouldn't be surprised to see it being passed by ETH.

I couldn't do it!

16,5 hours sitting in a plane, I would go crazy. I need to move, to stand, to walk and to do things. And how comfortable are the seats? If there's a crying baby sitting in front of me, will I be allowed to silence him any way I want? Does the plane include sockets so you can use your own laptop and tablet? What about a bar? A swimming-pool? A tennis court?
