1301  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Americans and Canadians might need visas for Europe on: April 08, 2016, 08:29:57 PM
That won't happen. There are too many luxury shops and hotels which enjoy American customers all over Europe. Nothing shall be done which could make their coming less easy. There are also many people talking about removing the need of a visa to Chinese travelers, because they're the biggest spenders in high end shops.

81.8 MB so it's quite substantial. It's larger than Mozilla Firefox and Multibit put together, and you can't ignore that you don't need to download anything to use Ebay or Amazon. I guess there should 2 versions of the software. A very light one, then a big one to those who have something to sell.
Are you using a PC or a phone? My Firefox browser cache alone is much bigger than 80 MB.
I am getting curious after all the feedback, so I will try it on an old laptop

Of course! I'm not talking about the sizes of cache files, I'm talking about the sizes of the software to download. Firefox is probably 45 MB.

Besides, OB is not working anymore. I'm not in the same place where I installed it, and it cannot connect. "Unable to connect to your server"

Anyone knows what port it uses, so I can check it's open?

The interface doesn't look nice. It's too dark, and the first available products aren't much exciting either, it' doesn't look professional. Then a major turn-off is that to use it you have to download a big file. I'd be happy to sell stuff via OpenBazaar though. I just wish it would look more like Amazon.

it's just 70MB...

1304  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A German comedian could be sent to jail for insulting the Turkish president on: April 08, 2016, 06:40:16 AM
Yes, it's easier to insult Hitler than Erdogan in today's Germany, but don't worry, nothing will happen, and no one will be sent to jail. Erdogan's critic on press' freedom has brought major news coverage in Germany, with several members of the parliament defending free speech in Turkey, so it cannot get worse in Germany.

1305  Economy / Economics / Re: The Fed 'is a god that has failed' on: April 08, 2016, 06:34:42 AM
The Fed is God? Please, stop insulting God! The Fed is man-made, an invention just like dynamite, which has made fortunes for a dedicated few, but brought mass destruction to million others.
1306  Economy / Economics / Re: US sanctions push countries away from dollar on: April 08, 2016, 06:31:22 AM
Do you think this will create some additional growth for Bitcoin?

Not so sure. The € is growing in international trade, and so is the Chinese currency which is pushed by its government all over Africa, but BTC isn't at that level. There are still few businesses which request to be paid with BTC, and none which deals with governments.
1307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Halving is a profitable??? on: April 08, 2016, 06:27:38 AM
Well, if you have a lot of BTC and the price rises, it'll be good for you, but I'm not so sure for miners. There's no rule saying value shall double to compensate for the revenue reduced by half. If BTC only increases 30%, which would be good, result for miners will be a loss.
1308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar Opened , your first impressions ? on: April 07, 2016, 08:32:39 AM
I CAN'T USE OB!

I hadn't realized it with so many people comparing OB to Ebay, but you can't compare the 2 services, because OB don't have servers. It's peer-to-peer, with your OB store, if you want to have one, actually saved on your own computer. Meaning that if you want to have a store running 24/7, you need to have YOUR computer running 24/7. So, you can't travel...

Gosh, I know how P2P work but with so many people stupidly comparing OB with Ebay, I had forgotten it. I guess there's an opportunity to sell hosting services via BTC.
1309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar Opened , your first impressions ? on: April 07, 2016, 08:17:59 AM
I've just installed OB, I didn't like that I had to choose a country. I chose Switzerland, even though I'm not Swiss, nor do I live there, but because it's neutral. I wish I could remove that geographical indication.

Then I had to choose a theme. I would like to be able to create my own.
1310  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar Opened , your first impressions ? on: April 06, 2016, 11:07:12 PM
i'm curious how are they going to deal with customs charge for international shipping, what if the receiver, lies about the customs charge? are they adopting the ebey politic?

If I understand OB, it will not care at all about that. Everything will be between the buyer and the seller, without OB having any responsibility in the deals, which are private. OB won't even know the nature of the deal. That's the wild, wild West...
1311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Slogan update >> Bitcoin, Be Your Own OFFSHORE Bank on: April 06, 2016, 10:56:59 PM
I have always thought of BTC as an offshore bank account, and that's one of the main reason why I like it. Since most people cannot trust governments, nor countries these days, it's only logical one's looking for other solutions. If you cannot trust a lawyer in Panama, that's just another reason to choose BTC.

1313  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's Birthday is 5th April on: April 05, 2016, 10:41:36 PM
I do not wish Satoshi a happy birthday, if today is the day, because I don't think he would like a total stranger to wish him that, and I know I wouldn't. Birthdays are personal. They're for family and friends, strangers are not invited, and we've seen that Satoshi enjoys his privacy.
1314  Other / Off-topic / Re: Buying stuff with paypal nowadays on: April 05, 2016, 10:36:11 PM
I think I've used Paypal 7 or 8 times last year, and I will do that again this year. I sure would prefer to use BTC, but there are still many services which don't accept it. Some things are changing really slowly. I wish I could read about a retailer saying he's making more sales with BTC than Paypal.
1315  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mexico tortures migrants – and citizens – to slow Central American surge on: April 04, 2016, 11:04:49 PM
The Mexican police is unable to stop drug trade, or to arrest murderers, so I guess it has decided to act tough on immigration to show the world it can do something. But it's failing there, too, only arresting legal citizens. I understand why so many Mexicans want to go to the US.
1316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Upcoming Exciting Events for Bitcoin on: April 04, 2016, 10:53:04 PM
Thanks for setting up this list, it helps remaining positive about BTC. Segregated Witness is and the Lightning Network aren't exactly done deals, but we can be quite confident they're coming. I'm more concerned with the halving. Many miners may have to cease operating because of it, meaning even more concentration, and I don't like it.
1317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitwala Raises €800,000 for Bitcoin SEPA Transfers on: April 04, 2016, 10:47:52 PM
Thanks, you made me discover Bitwala. It's an interesting concept. I can make free SEPA transfers with my bank account, but if I want to use BTC, I first need to sell some, so Bitwala might prove handy in that case. I guess I'll open an account.
1318  Other / Politics & Society / Re: College Implements Gender Neutral Bathrooms on: April 03, 2016, 10:43:31 PM
Nothing crazy nor new here. I've been to hundreds small restaurants where there's only one bathroom, for both sexes. I think all McDonald's and KFC fast food restaurants have only one toilet in France, Italy and Spain. There are no issues.

1320  Other / Politics & Society / Re: FBI Cracks California Shooter's Phone on: April 03, 2016, 03:11:54 PM
It's good this news was revealed, with everybody's talking about it. It just shows the world how unsafe a smartphone is. There are some good tools like Truecrypt but standard, easy to use encryption coming large manufacturers like Apple are bound to fail.
