481  Other / Meta / Re: Hilariousandco, moderator of Jeetscointalk, i'm calling you out on: May 22, 2024, 09:25:30 AM
16 posts in 10 days, 7 yesterday alone.  Grin
kind of why i'm pissed. my eyes are bleeding from reading this place and i'm the one "punished" for saying something about it.
You're allowed to say something about it, but it should be in the right place. Meta for instance. I bet none of your posts got deleted from this topic.

so you're saying things could be even worse if it weren't for those? damn!   Cheesy
You should have seen this place months before the Merit system.

Quote
more seriously, as you understood, i'm pissed for seeing my posts being deleted for no reason and on the contrary all the crap staying. why can't we have a normal board? some good serious info and people not taking themselves seriously? instead it's spam, shills, scams and whenever someone tries to be "fun", censorship.
There was most likely a reason: being off-topic. If Mods were wrong, I've seen theymos go through great lengths to undo the wrong.
If you want a topic without spam, create a self-moderated thread and delete anything you think is spam. Or report all the spam you see in other topics. If you respond to spam instead of reporting it, you're making it worse.

Then again, I get the feeling you know all this. You sound like an old member, so welcome back Smiley
482  Economy / Reputation / Re: 🍕 Bitcoin Pizza Day on Bitcointalk on: May 22, 2024, 08:25:49 AM
I will make it so that during the voting, people will not even know who owns this or that pizza (of course, except in those cases when someone has a photographic memory).
Nice addition!

It will also be prohibited to campaign for your pizza.
I'll campaign for the one with pineapple. Just to piss off every Italian Tongue Seriously though: my wife suggested pineapple because it's easier to make shapes. I told her that's a big no-go Tongue
483  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: (Ordinals) BRC-20 needs to be removed on: May 22, 2024, 05:39:40 AM
But you do realize that technically, no matter how stupid or "wrong" you may think they are, those users both pay for the transaction fees and they don't break the consensus rules.
That doesn't mean the consensus rules can't be changed Wink

my point was if everyone simply ignored what they were doing, then there wouldn't be a Streisand Effect that gave them the free marketing that they needed to help bootstrap their "projects".
I was truely amazed to see people here on Bitcointalk post they want to "check it out".

I believe like Bitcoin itself, Casey Rodarmor opened a Pandora's Box, never to be closed. Shitcoinery in Bitcoin might be here to stay.
I'm kinda expecting people to get arrested over this at some point. This isn't 2017 anymore, when anyone could create an ICO and get rich from gullible people without consequences. Software developers are now being prosecuted. Add some money laundering to the NFT market and I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen.
484  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Remove Proxyban (evil fees) - email to get whitelisted for free on: May 21, 2024, 05:12:40 PM
This is so I can get whitelisted.
I don't think you understand what this is about.

I can't login to Protonmail's .onion site anymore, and it hasn't worked for over a week. Today, I used the clearnet site (and whitelisted 2 users (sorry for the delay)), but this isn't how Protonmail is supposed to work.
485  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: May 21, 2024, 10:00:22 AM
What if add a round piece of rubber (you will need to select the appropriate thickness and elasticity) between the metal base and the washer (between metal and metal)? To reduce the ringing of metal on metal and reduce the load on the base due to the elasticity of rubber and the ability to absorb the kinetic energy of a hammer blow.
The rubber will indeed absorb part of the kinetic energy from the hammer, which means there's less energy remaining to stamp a letter into the washer. The harder the surface under the washer, the better you can stamp.
486  Other / Meta / Re: Hilariousandco, moderator of Jeetscointalk, i'm calling you out on: May 21, 2024, 09:21:55 AM
it's called humor. it's something that's used to deal with stupidity. it's also me doing a better job than you by actually telling those spammers how ridiculous they are.
There's a topic for that: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny. In other topics it's probably considered off-topic, which isn't allowed.

here's a screen of my binance account:

I've learned a long time ago never to trust screenshots, but if this is true, you're risking quite a lot of money on a centralized website that according to Wiki currently doesn't even headquarters anywhere.
487  Other / Meta / Re: Should mods make a post to justify why they locked a thread? on: May 21, 2024, 09:07:29 AM
And also send a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolate to apologise too I presume?
I like the idea, but I don't like doxing myself to receive the flowers. I'll take Bitcoin if you want to lock my threads Tongue

No I won't. I'm not going to encourage that shit.

it looks like we have about half a million bitcoin stamps so far. have they impacted the bitcoin network at all? is anyone complaining about them?
I don't care what they call it, all I see is on-chain spam.

pay a little extra and do it the right way. of course, that's easier said than done for the cheapos. who are worried about how much it is going to cost...
Tell me: how many on-chain Bitcoin transactions have you made this year?

The scam market where these junks are being pumped and dumped and the people's greed thinking they can make a lot of money buying garbage advertised it not what people say about it on the internet. In fact I can bet that majority of those newbies who have been buying these don't even read what we're saying about them. Wink
As Warren Buffet said: "Don't invest in something you don't understand". That doesn't really work for the FOMO-people.
491  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: May 20, 2024, 08:08:23 PM
Ultimately, they are the servers' security mechanisms, to avoid or reduce potential DDOS attacks.
I haven't seen this on other image hosts. It's especially annoying since there's not even a sign there should be a picture. Usually, when there's a lot of images to load, I'd expect not all of them to show up at the same time, but they'd load anyway after a small delay.
492  Economy / Reputation / Re: 🍕 Bitcoin Pizza Day on Bitcointalk on: May 20, 2024, 04:13:13 PM
Since you cannot be certain of the reason why a member is joining the contest, then i don't think it is a bad idea if the participants earn merits from their submissions. Take note they'll be putting in time, money and effort into it, and i am sure the bad entries would earn no merits or votes, so if the good entries earn merits, then it is great in my opinion and can qualify as a 'good or quality post'. You of all people shouldn't be complaining of this, you have so much smerits that you have been 'struggling' to send out, this could be a good opportunity, no?. Cheesy
You're right, it's not terrible to get Merit after working hard in the kitchen for hours. I Merited some of last year's contributions just 2 days ago.

Updated mine as well. Tell me what you think.
My first thought: who's hand is that? Shocked
493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [May 2024] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: May 20, 2024, 04:08:33 PM
How do you expect for the network to survive if the average transaction fee is not extremely expensive in the future?
Allow me to inverse the question: How do you expect Bitcoin to survive if the average transaction fee is extremely expensive in the future?

I admit, it's a bit of a rhetorical question. I don't expect Bitcoin to disappear because of fees, but the average Bitcoin user won't be able to make a transaction. And can you really call someone "a user" if he can't actually use it?
494  Economy / Reputation / Re: 🍕 Bitcoin Pizza Day on Bitcointalk on: May 20, 2024, 02:45:23 PM
Publishing the pizzas anonymously would require more effort in coming up with the best way to do it, and in my opinion it is going to reduce the fun in the contest.
It would also remove the incentive of joining to earn Merit, but I agree it makes it less fun.
495  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: May 20, 2024, 07:58:50 AM
Is your server rate limiting Bitcointalk's image proxy? I just opened 10 new tabs with images of last year's Bitcointalk pizza contest, and most of the images didn't show up. And since there are no height/width-tags, I didn't even notice the missing images until I reloaded each post one by one.
I don't have any limitations. Are you talking about this topic?
~
What did you actually do to get this kind of situation?
I started at this post, and then quickly clicked my middle mouse (opening the link in a new tab) on all 10 usernames. Try it in a private window, to make sure the images aren't cached.
496  Other / Meta / Re: Is selling a script of a service that was taken down by Law Enforcement Ok? on: May 20, 2024, 07:20:27 AM
It reminds me of this post:
Bitcointalk.org is not a darknet site. Linking to illegal services is not allowed. As mentioned in the law-enforcement press release, "a cryptocurrency mixing service is not necessarily illegal." But a seized mixer is rather different from just any old mixer. Sinbad, if still operating, is now clearly a darknet site, and therefore not allowed on bitcointalk.org.

The OP is banned. This topic is archived. The onion address is wordfiltered, and bypassing the wordfilter will get you banned.
The details are different, but the bottom line is the same.
497  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help with a full node on: May 20, 2024, 06:50:11 AM
Just learned there's a issue with my ISP. Basically i can't do what i want if i don't pay.
How about a VPN with port forwarding (or a cheap VPS with OpenVPN installed)?
498  Economy / Reputation / Re: AI Spam Report Reference Thread on: May 20, 2024, 06:48:06 AM
How about Newbie GOODLUCK-HRM? He earned all his 19 Merit from Merit giveaways, and posts generic crap like this:
You are right because running a Bitcoin core without port 8333 is useless for the network. 8333 is the default port of Bitcoin Core. All nodes in the Bitcoin core are used to communicate and collect data from the network. If any of the nodes here have a problem, it stops the connection of all the nodes. Tick the problem with your ISP. What you want cannot be done for free. Try changing the router settings and forwarding the port to 8333. Although port forwarding can put your computer at risk of hacking, do it cautiously and share it with an expert.
499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [May 2024] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: May 20, 2024, 06:02:50 AM
I wonder how much better it can get, current block rewards are:
Total fees   ‎0.087 BTC $5,853
this means anyone willing to pay $6k to have his own block all by himself can do so
I don't think that's how it works: the highest paying transactions in a block are much more expensive to replace than the average. To get the entire block, you must outbid the highest fee.

Somebody moving his inscriptions
It's those things:
Got it. So trash.
Yep. Create dust, move dust. Madness.
500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: time to re-sync a full node after power-outage on: May 19, 2024, 06:53:59 AM
Otherwise, most of the time, you'll only need --reindex-chainstate or --reindex depending on the error in your "debug.log" file.
I'd expect the reindex chainstate to take about as long as restarting the IBD, but without the bandwidth consumption.

The one time I messed up and deleted the latest block file from disk, Bitcoin Core started a full fresh download. That was a few years ago.

I have backup 2TB SSD disk (which I  synch on regular monthly base)  for such cases. Thus should the outrage happens I will copy the content of this  disk to SSD which is attached  to my bitcoin node.
If I'd do this, I would use rsync:
Code:
--link-dest=DIR          hardlink to files in DIR when unchanged
This allows to create several snapshots of older full blockchains, without needing much additional disk space. If it's ever needed, you can easily roll back to another month.

If you're worried about power outages: a laptop is much easier than a UPS.
