481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll - Mt. Gox Rollback - We Finally see our Accounts on: June 25, 2011, 05:58:48 AM
Mine shows a very small difference... so small that I'm not sure if I'm just remembering incorrectly.

I thought I had 9.98 btc, but my balance is showing as 9.8 btc.
482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This deep frustration with Mt Gox shows Bitcoins need u.s. dollars to survive. on: June 25, 2011, 05:55:48 AM
as we all know mt gox is just one of many exchanges of bitcoins and no more...

yet this widespread anger with mt gox exposes that bitcoins is just a hanger-on to u.s. dollars, and cannot survive on its own.

Or maybe just that people's bitcoins are tied up in it, meaning they can't spend them? That aspect has nothing to do with USD.

483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have .10 Bitcoins here. on: June 25, 2011, 05:46:50 AM
Just an observation; In the original image the pointer is clearly touching the paper, but doesn't appear to touch in any of the bitcoin versions (the pointer's shadow doesn't fully connect with the end of the pointer).
484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where was Bitcoin in 2010? on: June 24, 2011, 10:58:24 PM
Apparently I need to frequent Slashdot?

Maybe not... 99% of Slashdotters think Bitcoin is scam/pyramid/stupid idea.
485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where was Bitcoin in 2010? on: June 24, 2011, 10:31:13 PM
slashdot spin off

Likewise, but for the most part I thought I came in off the 'USD parity' article this year... but recently something triggered in my memory and I *really* vaguely remember seeing the very first Slashdot article about it (when it would have been < $0.04) and didn't get into it.
486  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: What name would you give to the smallest unit of bitcoin (0.00000001)? on: June 24, 2011, 01:01:24 PM
How about 10 nanocoins?

I can't believe I had to get to page 3 of this thread before someone suggested this... finally, thank you, we have a winner.
487  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Has anyone completed the MtGox verification yet? on: June 24, 2011, 10:02:41 AM
For people who are still waiting, make sure you keep an eye on your junk mail folder... my (acceptance) email landed there, even though previous Mt Gox emails made it to my inbox.
488  Other / Meta / Re: "Currency exchange" subforum in Marketplace? on: June 24, 2011, 09:48:19 AM
Done.

And in record time too! (5 weeks is a record isn't it?)

Thanks though.
489  Economy / Economics / Re: Botnet - can we stop this madness? on: June 24, 2011, 09:11:46 AM
How is that an 'attack'? Isn't it basically just someone mining a lot of coins?
Huh
it`s attack against all honest miners! Angry

Not precisely, it's an attack against the owners of the infected machines.

Yeah, what I meant was "How is that an attack on 'the bitcoin net'"? It's not.

491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My account request was rejected by MtGox - what should I do? on: June 24, 2011, 05:02:05 AM
Did anyone find their acceptance/rejection letter in the junk mail folder?

I'm using a very old email account that gets hundreds of spams a day, so I'm a little worried it'll get buried or that I've mistakenly deleted it already.
492  Economy / Economics / Re: Thinking in bitcoins? on: June 24, 2011, 12:15:52 AM
And there's a simple reason why: You don't get paid in Bitcoins!

Some people on this board most definitely do get paid in Bitcoins for most if not all of their wage.
493  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling Bitcoins ($15.05 each) for PayPal. Will ship a Bitcoin certificate free. on: June 23, 2011, 11:42:33 PM
I just bought 5, but didn't see anywhere to give you my bitcoin address... will PM you now.

Only 4 hours until round starts!!

Posting so I can just compare my post time to your post time.

Rather than try to convert EST/EST/GMT/UTC.

Edit: Okay, if your '4 hours' was accurate, it starts at 18:00 UTC.
496  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin stabilizing around $15. on: June 23, 2011, 01:40:51 PM
As others have alluded to, once Mt Gox re-opens prices are going to go nuts.

I reckon there are so many people that have no idea if the reopening will mean prices drop sharply or skyrocket, that it will likely swing wildly.
497  Economy / Economics / Re: When do you expect and when do you want BTC to go over 30 bucks again? on: June 23, 2011, 01:17:07 PM
I'll guess 2 or 3 weeks, and that's pretty much in line with what I'd prefer too.

If no-one wants the $900 or so in my AlertPay account, I'll have to withdraw it and get it into an exchange somehow, that'll take time Undecided
498  Economy / Economics / Re: I am going to spend my coins. on: June 22, 2011, 05:50:44 PM
Are you looking to buy anything in particular?

Well so far I plan to buy some snacks from bitmunchies. But if anyone has any interesting links to products and services for sale I will be happy to take a look.

499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: MtGox please protect our info, it's still not removed from some sites on: June 22, 2011, 04:52:50 PM
Rapidshare has due dilligently removed this file's download access and views it as an illegal file - probably due to infringement of privacy.  Only MtGox being the original keeper of the privileged information, would be in a position to demand its removal from public sites.  Please act due dilligently to minimise infringement of privacy  damages.

How did the bitcoin cross the road?

Carefully, as it was made of silk.

p.s. I wonder if these guys are now doing more business because of bitcoin: http://silkroad.com/
